I've been coming to Layla's in Fairfield for years now and have literally not had one bad meal there. The food is so authentic and true to the origins. The staff every time I have been in is sweet and approachable. I haven't had a single bad experience there and at this point I don't think I ever will. Let me start off by saying I like Layla's falafel a lot. Love Middle Eastern food. restaurant has nice feel to it - almost like you're ordering in Fallujeh pre March 2003. Anything could happen but mostly it's just ordering and being served delicious food. That was the case in Stamford and what I thought would be the case in Fairfield but in fact, I was thrown a "CurveBall." I ordered a mixed grill, side of baba ghanoush and 2 side orders of falafel (when in Rome...). Went to pick it up a 15 or so after ordering. Was told when I got there they were running behind (1 seated table and 1 person ahead of me at this point). So I leave for about 10m or so come back and food is still not ready. That's cool...I'll hang out. Get home with food and realize that they didn't include the second order of falafel (guess it's true we were that close to Rome after all). No matter, I crack open the mixed grill which looks decent. Though, not totally sure where lamb is (Oh it's underneath!) The lamb itself was shall we say chewy and it also looked like someone tired to cut it with their feet. Hacked at would be better way to describe. Definitely a win for the dog. Garlic dip is on point and as is hummus. Chicken is dry and the other meat-cylinder is quaffable. Baba Ghanoush was not what I was expecting at all though. Looked like fish dip. Tasted like extremely smoky fish dip. The kind of smoke that seems like someone put their cigar out in. I gave it to the dog as well and, like WMD, I have yet to find where he hid them. All in all, I was disappointed by my trip there. It is a sister restaurant to the one in Stamford but it is unfortunate the quality and service are not equivalent. Would try again because when Layla's is on her game - she is the best! But for this time Curveball got the best of her as he did to us all. read more

Went for the first time.Sunday 03 Dec 2011@ 1pm...Fairfield...... Right at lunch time. I took my MOM for her birthday.... Read all the great reveiws and totally disagree with all of them. I was expecting fresh made meals, but most of the foods & ingredients were premade , prepackaged, and other that the salad,s not made there. The Falafels.and Kibbe just reheated,.made else where ? I didn't liike it. I wanted fresh made to order. Peperidge Farm pitas not fresh. I know this because they were still in the bags with the labels on them. Some of the foods listed as specials, were not in stock, and didn't look like they had been for a long time. The hot storage hot food trays are used for storage of dishes, plates and the Peperidge Farms pitas. The schwarma was very dry ..imo just like beef jerky. It tasted ok, but was very overated. The batthroom was a disgrace. I don't see how a employyes can adequtely "clean up" to serve food, but their clothes and shoes stored in there. I was recommended to try this place about four years ago, and throughout my four years of attending Fairfield University, Layla's has been my favorite place to get lunch or dinner. The food is very fresh and all very traditional and authentic. It's a pretty good atmosphere, the people are very friendly behind the counter. and for Fairfield, it's very moderately priced. The shawarma platters are extremely filling and delicious. The sandwiches are amazing, and filling as well. Worth every penny, and they deserve it too! read more

Layla's came highly recommended from an Egyptian acquaintance of my mom's and we were not disappointed! I got the Lamb Shawarma wrap, since anything reasonably priced with lamb is so hard to find, and was pleased. It was also nice to see that they left some broken pita chips and tabbouleh on the counter for snacking while waiting.The price is a little steep, but if I'm in the area, or rather, if I don't want to fight traffic to get to Mamoun's in New Haven, I definitely would stop in and get a bite to eat again. In conclusion, there are some things I'll say as precautions: 1.) They don't have a bathroom, but the gas station next door does, so that's not a huge hardship. 2.) It's a VERY tiny restaurant, so I don't recommend coming here if you want to have a huge, sit-down dinner. 3.) The parking can be a bit tricky if you go during the dinner rush. There is no parking in back, but again, if worst comes to worst, the people at the gas station don't seem to mind if you park there for a little bit. read more

This review is for the new Layla's on the Post Road in Westport. We have been eagerly awaiting this location, closer for us than Black Rock or Stamford. I was happy to be able to eat in the restaurant but I believe most people will wind up doing take-out (there was a steady stream of customers doing that while we were eating.) The new place is bright and shiny and cheerful, there are a few tables, mostly 2-tops but the owner(?) put two together for us 3 people who had ordered a few too many dishes. We had felafel deluxe, regular felafel, french fries, drinks and baklava, and they gave us some eggplant salad for the table, which was delicious. All their food is scrumptious (I base this on years of experience with their other locations) and we are so glad we went, and so happy to have them close by. read more

Layla's is the best spot for Mediterranean food, hands down. I stopped by recently with my girlfriend to pickup a pound of kafta kabob, one of my favorite items. The blend of herbs and spices is perfectly balanced and the food is clean! They use quality ingredients and it's clear they put love & pride in all the dishes they prepare. Very disappointed with my order last week. Probably won't go back. They weren't transparent about the wait time -said 20 min and it was 45!! They were fighting amongst themselves especially when one of the employees said she would give me a refund and Layla wasn't happy about that. Really tacky unprofessional experience. First, the good: The FOOD. The Hummus is very creamy and tasty. The garlic dip was just Wow! Portions are large and everything we had... lamb shawarma, meat pies, rice and lentils... was tasty. Now the bad: The servers were extremely sullen..yes..all three that worked there... to the point where it was uncomfortable. Never a smile, not particularly courteous...only sort of grunted when asked a question. Really made me feel like it was a bother that we were even there. It was uncomfortable enough that we wouldn't go back regardless of how good the food was. ( We would just order take out) The place is rather small and only seats about a dozen, so not staying isn't much of a loss. Food gets 5 stars, service gets one or two. read more
