We were here 6/6/26 mid-afternoon in town for a boys volleyball tournament. We called ahead to let them know we would be 24 people. When we arrived they almost had a table ready for us, then turned out we had a few more people that pushed a few more tables together. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy, but it was likely shift change time and yet we had multiple staff helping out, all positive, warm and friendly service. Wish I had photos of the great variety of food we all had but I didn't think fast enough. I didn't hear anyone that didn't care for their meal and everyone was happy with their entree and the service. The menu has a vast variety of options with something for everyone I ended up with a with the Inside Out Quesadillas that were deliciously cheesy with that nice crispy cheese on the outside and a Don Julio Cadillac margarita without salt. My son had the BBQ Ranch Bacon Burger and a root beer. Both perfectly done and I so appreciate my drink being right the first time without salt. Surprising how often that gets missed and then they dump the drink out over the salt into the new glass. They got it right here the first time so big win in my eyes. They didn't miss a beat with service or refilling the water carafes on the table. We all felt well taken care of and appreciate the separate bills in the end. For starters, we did the French pastry bites with au jus. Super flavorful, and the au jus for dipping was killer. For the main, I had the PB&J burger, medium rare. Ordered the first things that caught our eyes -- spicy crispy tuna from large plate shareables, wild caught seabass from the protein menu, watermelon margarita, and butter cake. Wow, I can't believe we postponed coming to Lazy Dog for so long! My husband went here first with some buddies, but he only ate with his eyes that initial visit. Because everything looked so appetizing to him, he nudged me to try Lazy Dog out together on one of our dates nights. We were NOT disappointed. First of all, I loved that the manager(?) came over and greeted us tableside. He asked if this was our first visit, got us some complimentary potato chips for starters, and then gave us a discount coupon to use at a future visit. Next came the food. I can't remember what my husband had, but he loved his dish (some kind of Mediterranean bowl?). I ordered the fish and chips and they BLEW MY SOCKS OFF. I made reservations for dinner, and I'm so glad I did because the place was packed. Clearly everyone else had the same idea we did! We started with a beer flight, which was a great choice--trying a few different beers felt like a fun little adventure. Great visit to Lazy Dog as my wife was at an appointment and I was a bit hungry! Of course, I had the Smoked Maple Bacon Old Fashioned made with Tincup Mountain Whiskey. They introduced Tikka Masala Meatballs and they were delicious. Lazy Dog was busy as it's in the Palladio and it's holiday season but the bartender and staff were on point with their service and kept everything moving. Despite our early and erratic/staggered arrival times, the staff accommodated our large party, allowing us to occupy tables for an extended period of time. Further, they waited as we separated the check into multiples (I know it isn't difficult anymore, given computerized systems. I'm giving Lazy Dog in Folsom 5 stars because I grade on a curve and just endured dining at BJ's in Roseville. What a dive that place is! I've already given up on Mimi's Cafe. I wouldn't give that crap to my dog! Anyways, I was a bit PTSD after that and didn't have high hopes for LZ as I view them the same type of dining establishment. I could not be more wrong. Everything BJ's did wrong, LZ did right. From the host counter, to seating, to even the smell of the place, it was right. Table spacing, right. Decor, right. Waitress, right, right, right!! She took our order and didn't even have a pad or pencil. I thought well, it's just the two of us, but I saw her at the next table, 4 people with lots of options and she didn't need to write a thing down. We started with drinks and candied bacon. Just great! Hardly anyplace has diet coke, only Pepsi, but LZ has my diet coke. Thank you! We each ordered from the $15 menu. Me some sort of BBQ bacon cowboy burger thing and my wife had shrimp tacos. I asked for medium rare and it came medium rare. The lettuce and tomato slice were cold, the burger hot and the bun warm. Right, Right, Right. I substituted fries for onion rings and got plenty. The oil was good, not the freshest, but that's o.k. too. Some sort of dipping sauce, no ketchup, but after tasting the sauce, I didn't need any ketchup anyway. I did salt the burger and rings, but that's just me. Most folks would find them seasoned well enough as they were. The meal comes with individual sized dessert. I had some sort of brownie/ice cream thing which was awesome! My wife had the banana pudding. It was exactly like homemade. The wafers were fresh, not soggy, the pudding cold and chilly. While the brownie was warm with gooey sauce and a solid scoop of ice cream. All was right with dessert. The only thing I would have liked was our waitress to check on refills, but I did fine as it was a tall glass to begin with. We were on our way to Harris Center for a concert and this was a great place to hang out before and probably after too, if we were with another couple. Great takeout experience on a busy Saturday night. We were a little worried about placing such a large order (14 people) on a Saturday night. When we arrived the takeout spots were all filled with cars so we had to circle for a spot. Came here before a movie. Food was good. Service was not good. We got there at 550pm. Got seated almost immediately. The person who sat us, gave us the menus then left. Ambience is just like other locations. They had Christmas drink specials so we tried the Hibiscus Margaritas. Very tastefully made drinks. From the moment we walked in, Carmela greeted us with such warmth and genuine kindness that we instantly felt welcome. She was attentive, friendly, and effortlessly made us feel taken care of without ever being overbearing. We were seated between two other couples who were already raving about her and within minutes, we completely understood why. Carmela didn't just provide good service, she set a standard. She checked on us consistently, anticipated our needs, and carried herself with such positivity and professionalism that it elevated the entire experience. I'm almost 50 years old and have dined out countless times throughout my life, and I can say with complete honesty: this was the best service I have ever received. We were so impressed that we asked to speak with a manager because a Yelp review and a tip simply didn't feel like enough. Arianna, the manager, came by, and we couldn't say enough about how exceptional Carmela is and how deserving she is of recognition. I've always been a big fan of Lazy Dog, especially this location. In the greater Sacramento area, I would say this is one of the few restaurants that consistently delivers on food quality, freshness, and cleanliness. My wife and I usually choose to dine here because the menu always offers something new to try while still being consistently great. Unfortunately, on 02/24/2026, we had our worst experience to date. Everything started off great, and for the most part, our server was fine--until the very end. My wife, our children, and I were seated on the west side of the restaurant (if you're facing north east), in one of the larger booths. The food was excellent, and we decided to order dessert, which we enjoyed. While we were finishing dessert, the server came over with the card reader already on the final payment screen, where you select the tip percentage and complete the transaction. She said something I don't recall and then stood there, arm extended, holding the device out for me to pay. My wife actually had to snap me out of my blank stare because I was confused about why she was standing there waiting for payment. Every other time we've dined here, the server has left the card reader at the table so we could review and pay on our own time, typically retrieving it after we left. This time, however, she remained standing over me while I pulled out my card and selected a tip. I felt very uncomfortable choosing a tip amount with her hovering. I ended up tipping 18%, which I believe was fair for the overall dining experience, but the situation felt pressured and awkward. What made it worse was what happened next. Two elderly women were seated in the booth in front of us and appeared to be finishing their meal as well. I noticed our server approach them with the card reader. She dropped off their boxes, said a few things, then told them, "I'm going to leave this right here for you guys--whenever you're ready," placed the device on their table, and walked away. At that point, I went from confused to genuinely upset by the inconsistency in service. Why were we treated differently? I asked my wife to take our kids to the car while I spoke with a manager. The manager (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was very kind and agreed that our payment experience was "weird." When I explained that I hadn't even asked for the check yet because we were still enjoying dessert and time together, she seemed surprised and said, "You didn't?" No--we didn't. The server later offered an explanation that didn't make sense. She said she left the device with the elderly women because they were older and still finishing up. That reasoning felt inconsistent. If anything, you might assume older guests would benefit more from assistance with the device rather than being left alone with it. The entire interaction felt rushed and uncomfortable. While I was always planning to tip, I believe guests should have the opportunity to decide on a tip privately and based on their full experience--not while feeling pressured with someone hovering over them. It was an unfortunate way to end what had otherwise been a pleasant evening at a restaurant we've consistently supported and enjoyed.
