The croquettes were crisp and so flavorful. I would definitely recommend this as a starter. The chicken thighs were so tender and flavorful. The prawns were fine not memorable enough to order again and cooked inconsistently. The chorizo spread was interesting and a great compliment with the toasted bread. The soft cheese was a wonderful way to start our meal. The real star was the crispy pork with all the sides that accompanied it. The fries were crispy, seasoned well. The peppers were packed with smoky and sweet flavor. Even the salad was perfectly dressed and so fresh. The hostess was lacking but servers were wonderful and more than made up for the host. He went above and beyond, hand writing on a menu everything that was celiac safe, could be made safe, and should be avoided. Really nice location at Hudson yards, this restaurant is part of what looks like a Spanish market place. The restaurant itself is pretty fancy but comfortable. The service is excellent. We just had the grilled octopus with potatoes, and sea bass fillet, we shared both, with left overs. The sangria was great, tasty and strong. We ordered a bunch of tapas: the anchovies, the tomato bread, the jamon (ham) croquettes, the mussels, the grilled squid, the octopus, the anchovy salad, and a pitcher of red wine sangria. I really liked the jamon croquettes, the mussels, and the grilled squid the most. The jamon croquettes were super hot and there was a lot of jamon in them. The mussels were large, juicy, fresh, and the verde sauce was delish. The grilled squid was grilled perfectly. I would skip the red wine sangria, seemed to be very watered down and not much fruit. We came here for the cuchinillo - that is the entire 12-1/2 lb Spanish style roast pig. You have to reserve it and ask it in advance. It is a good meal in itself which includes the entire pig plus a nice salad, roasted red piquillo pepper cooked in Spanish style (sweet not hot), very good fluffy smooth mashed potato with olive oil on top. 1 pig feeds up to 8 people max but order maybe 1-2 appetizers to share for the table. No need for appetizer if you are 6. The above comes with the order of the whole roast pig except the omelette and asparagus. The roast pig had some crispy skin but we expected crispy skin all over like the one we order in Madrid and Segovia. So this was only 60% crispy. But the pork is juicy inside. Their potato omelette was very good and so was the white asparagus. But we came here for the roast pig. read more

I'm glad we didn't look at the reviews or else we will miss this place. We had the dry age steak, 1/4 pork, and paella. Steak and pork was great. Paella is so-so. So, what you heard is true- it's expensive- and portions are small. But It is delicious!! Sides are a shareable size. The branzino is the most reasonable sized main dish and is also very tasty. I've been here several times but haven't taken much photos but here are two dishes I had last time I went. This rating is for the service and the taste of the food. They can do better on the price/portion or else it would be 5. There are other restaurants very close by, with high quality food, in the same price range that have better portions, in addition you can eat in the Mercados tapas bar right next to it, and have almost the exact same food tapas style at a much more affordable price. read more

What a delightful meal we had at Lena in El Mercado Little Spain. We have been to El Mercado on three occasions and each time we are more and more impressed. The management and servers are so knowledgeable and hospitable. We genuinely feel like we have stepped into a local market in Madrid. The wine's are carefully curated and we had the opportunity to taste the wines before imbibing. The roasted baby pig (Cochinillo) was outstanding, as delicious as anything we had in Spain. We ordered the grilled Iberia pork ribs slow cooked for 24 hours and the acorn-fed Iberia pork shoulder on a different occasion. They were fabulous. They also offer the opportunity to take home their house butchered Cochinillo and Tzuleton, 60 day dry aged rib eye. The chef, Marco, was kind enough to give us detailed specifications on how to prepare both meats. They have half-priced wine every Wednesday and the beverage manager, Diego, invited us to his absolutely amazing wine cellar. We can't wait to return. read more

First I'd like to mention that the entire marketplace is AMAZING ...my family had a reservation for lunch here at Lena for 2 pm we arrived and were greeted by a very monotone unhelpful hostess that had us waiting for a bit with 3 elderly people in our party btw. I personally would have offered that they have a seat and then would go grab them when the table is ready but hey that's just me. Luckily for her the rest of our dinner went swimmingly our waiter was so great in helping decide on what to get on the menu including wine and how much food would be appropriate for my family to share and be satisfied with we ordered many small plates that were all delicious especially like the cróquets de jamón and the chicken Im cilantro sauce! We then got the cochinito which is the best cut of pork ever! So crispy and yummy out family Couldn't get enough it was the star of The table! We were offered the Iberico Ham, at 60$ for 2oz an expensive and unnecessary offer. The mussels appetizer accompanied with the toasted bread were outstanding though. For main course we had different cuts of meat (poke cheeks, steak, sausage and lamb chops to share for the table). All nicely done but nothing special and very expensive in a below par atmosphere. Finding this place was a bit of a hassle, we went through the mall to get to this place (which was unnecessary), this restaurant is located inside the mercado which I suppose is a bunch of restaurants serving spanish food (kind of like a food court). We were a little late for our reservation but we got seated right away which was awesome. Food: We ordered the following few appetizers, salads and seafood entree. i. PAN DE CRISTAL CON TOMATE ii. PUERROS A LA BRASA CON VINAGRETA DE SUS CENIZAS iii. ENSALADA DE COGOLLOS DE LECHUGA Y PIPARRAS iv. ALCACHOFAS SIN TRABAJO A LA BRASA CON ROMESCO v. Turbot Every single thing that I ate at this place was phenomenal except the leek (#ii). My fave items from the list was the pan de Cristal con tomate which was kind of like bruschetta but more like paste brushed on the crispy breads. The entree was the highlight of our dinner, I am usually aversive of any type of seafood (don't like that weird seafood smell) but this turbot fish was perfect, had the perfect texture with minimal smell and was very delicious. This might have made me more open to trying more seafood. Their non-alcoholic drink menu is not that great, I got the lemonade and that was more on the sour side, I was hoping for something a little sweeter. Service: All the servers were super friendly, they checked on us multiple times and we stayed for quite late after we were done eating, no one rushed us to leave which was great! Ambiance: This place would be a nice spot for a nice dinner with a friend or your significant other. This is a fine dining restaurant, so the prices are on the higher side but most restaurants close to Hudson are similar price wise. This place seems popular for its pork dishes, so if you are a pork eater or want try the amazing turbot dish, check this place out (skip the leek tho). read more

Must order: Cochinilla Roast pig! It's Skin is so crispy and perfectly cooked. It arrives with three side dishes: creamy olive oil mashed potatoes, super roasted peppers, perfectly vinegared crisp greens that counterbalance the cochinilla. You can order a quarter portion (we shared a taste among 4 ladies) or a whole pig (feeds 6 persons). We ordered a few other dishes as well. We finished with the pineapple soaked in liquor, which was surprisingly refreshing. Our waiter, Marco, described how our food was prepared and was knowledgeable and attentive. Our table was near the open fire roasting area, so you could smell the roasting meats, but not get smoky. The wine list is limited but it's more about the food. I am here to recommend this restaurant!!! My family and I were there yesterday and luckily only one table was available. We ordered Presa, Carrillera, and flank steak as main course. Presa was surprisingly impressive, and the mashed potato came with Carrillera was light and slightly fruity flavor, which was the best mashed potato I'd ever experienced. Terrible experience here. It's located in a giant corporate mall that feels sterile and boring. The food was bland and arrived cold to the table, after taking over an hour to be prepared. The service was both pretentious and inattentive at once. It just seems like a poorly run restaurant from top to bottom. On my way out I saw two (2) mice scurry across the dining room. We had queried websites and asked concierge for great, authentic Spanish restaurants but no one directed us to "Little Spain" at Hudson Yard. We did't want just Tapas and yet we found it all, here. We were able to pick up supplies for an upcoming Paella party and introduced to a chef who was enthralled to share his love of cooking. He was pleased to introduce us to Lena and we made immediate reservations. We were there early and thank goodness because the restaurant was filled by the time we left. Prices were significant but not outrageous. The food could not have been better and our hostess could not have been of more gracious help. We would return there in a heartbeat! read more

Wanted so much to love it. However food was inconsistent and service, while helpful, could not make it right. We ordered the tortilla, sardines, sausages, pork cheeks, artichokes, and pan con tomate. The tortilla and sardines were the standout dishes. Perfectly cooked and warm! Delicious. Tortilla melted in your mouth. Sardines were smoky, salty, and meaty. Sausages were tasty but the accompanying white beans were dried and cold. Wonder whether it was near the end of the evening? Pork cheeks tasted good not spectacular. temperature was lukewarm to cold. Perhaps the most eagerly awaited but disappointing dish was the pan con tomate, bread was toasted, but was served limp and cold. The topping while looking beautiful did not match in taste. We returned the dish complaining it was cold and limp. Replacement dish came out and although it was less limp, it was still lackluster in taste and cold. It was nothing like what the New Yorker magazine described. We did not finish the dish. We didn't sit down until 9:30p or so.
