Came here for a happy hour. The happy hour is just drinks, they don't include food options. They do have good sangria! Had two glasses and it was delicious. The bad-- the food!!! It's mediocre Spanish tapas, and lacking in flavor!!! Also the lady attending us is rude and indifferent. She got an attitude when we asked questions about the menu. Other servers helped her, they're ok, but she's just something else. Just rude. Anyways, might come back for the drinks and nothing else.

After visiting much-vaunted Little Island and walking back to Hudson Yards via the Highline, we went to Mercado Little Spain for dinner, remembering a great meal we had there two years ago. This time we decided to try La Barra, a tapas restaurant. We ordered too much food. Between two people, four tapas are more than sufficient. Service was very good until our server went off shift and then we were sort of lost in the shuffle, it seemed. Several dishes we wanted were already out on this evening. So what we did order was Pan Con Tomate, Queso Manchego Curado, Ensalada de Espinacas, Patatas Bravas, Pulpo A La Gallega and Gambas Al Ajillo. The Pan Con Tomate was a half of loaf of toasted rustic bread loaf topped with a thin tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was luke-warm and this bread made soggy by the sauce was unappealing. The Queso Manchego Curado was sheep's cheese that came with crispy mini-sticks of bread and a sweet spread, maybe fig? This cheese board was good. The Ensalada de Espinacas was my favorite dish of the evening. This fresh and lively dish was spinach with toasted pinenuts, sherry dressing, raisins, bacon and shallots. The Ensalada de Espinacas would have been even better if they left out the bacon. I also really liked the Pulpo A La Gallega, which was slices of cooked octopus over mashed potatoes. I didn't really like the Patatas Bravas, which were cubes of roasted potatoes topped with a couple of sauces. The dish had an overwhelming paprika flavor. If you like shrimp, I think you would like the Gambas Al Ajillo, which were shrimp in a olive oil/vinegar sauce. Odd, I have eaten and enjoyed shrimp my entire life, but will not eat shrimp anymore. That's perhaps because of a couple recent unpleasant shrimp experiences down in Virginia. While we like Jose Andres' Mercado Little Spain and its lively and colorful atmosphere, I don't feel La Barra is in the same league as, say, Jaleo.

Little Spain at Hudson Yard! Wow, so like Eataly but make it Spain inspired. It's in the basement level of Hudson yard, pass the Switzerland watch store, down the escalator and opens to food hall. There are plenty of choices, from counter seats, to tables near the vendor, sweets and savory all mixed in. I was definitely hooked on the "Jamon Leg"! So beelined to the stall for the Spanish version of "ham sandwich". Toasted skinny baguette and Jamon... with a thin tomato spread - delicious. But WOOZA, $18. Is quite a sticker shock for me. Just a sandwich. Nothing extra. No drinks or chips. Literally a ham sandwich for $18. That's Hudson Yard for ya. I also got flan from the dessert shop and it was just OK. Didn't love it, it was way too sweet and I didn't end up finishing the flan tart... which costs $8. My lunch was quite pricey... but I did enjoy the sandwich tho. So basically: Quality. Yes. Value. No. (For tourist absolutely yes).

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge fan of chef Jose Andres. My husband and I have eaten at each of his West Coast locations. On a trip to see my cousin debut on Broadway, my East Coast bestie and I visited each NYC restaurant operated by him. Jose Andres opened his first restaurant in Washington DC, the year I moved to California. He was a young chef in his twenties at the time. His restaurant Julio was one of my last meals in the district but not my last supper over the years. I love molecular gastronomy but he uses more traditional methods here. Our first night in the city, we ate at Lina inside the Mercado Little Spain This is a little piece of Spanish heaven in Hudson Yards. There are many food choices within the market. Jumbo empanadas, paella meals, and a Spanish wine bar to name a few things you could pick up or indulge in on the spot. Jose Andres sells a few items for take away, including; olive oil potatoes chips, Spanish sauces and paella kits to make your own meal at home. You can receive a $25 dollar credit on your first visit here, by signing up on the Mercado website online. A little wine, a couple appetizers and a few treats for the hotel were part of the night. I only wish we got to the ice cream before the booth closed. The service within the market was first class and everything we tried was delicious as expected. A tapas must do. #MercadoLittleSpain #HudsonYards #JoseAndres #Tapas #NYC

Delicious food! And as a Spaniard myself; the tortilla is legit and delicious. The red wine pairs beautifully with the tortilla. Great price quality.

I made a quick stop to satisfy my cravings for gazpacho and croquetas! They got me a table right away, and the service was super fast with a friendly server. The gazpacho was awesome--so fresh and just the right balance. I was hoping to get the classic croquetas, but they only had chicken and one with seafood, if I remember right. It was okay, but there was way too much chicken inside, making it pretty filling and not as soft as the usual ones. Still it was good and I'll be back next time I'm in NYC.

Love! And can't wait to come back!! Everything was delicious. I didn't get to try much since this was a quick stop before heading to the airport however what I did get to try was perfect. Pan con tomate, jamon, manchego, tortilla (omelet), and patatas was a great quick teaser to make me come back for more.

Mercado Little Spain tries to recreate the atmosphere of walking thru a Spanish public market and in some ways succeeds. They've coalesced about a dozen vendors in the basement level of Hudson Yards Shops serving a variety of Spanish foods and selling a handful of better known Spanish gifting pantry staples like Vincens Turron nougat and chocolates*. The directory as of January 2025 includes Qué Sweet! (desserts--cakes, petit gateaus, and ice cream), Bar Manolo (pressed sandwiches and sweet pastries), Lola's Greens (salad), Little Spain (paella), Mr. Lopez' Burgers and Bikinis (burgers), Jamones (Spanish ham and cheeses), Churros, Bravas (spicy fried potatoes), Tortilla de Patatas (Spanish omelette), Bar Celona (bar and tapas), Vinos (wine bar). Spanish Diner, Leña, La Barra round out the restaurant list. The food is decent though somewhat limited in menu and drink options. They have a lot of the more typical items: jamon sandwiches, red vermouth, patatas bravas, tortilla, jamon and queso, olives, churros. It's be nice to have some more extensive variety in vermouths. They have a decent happy hour with sangria, wine, a few cocktails, vermouth and beer 4-8pm. Otherwise pretty pricey compared to Spain, though understandable considering shipping prices and comparable to NYC prices. Seating is spread out throughout the space, with a large central area with the most tables. Most spots are self service meaning you're ordering at the counter, picking up, finding seats, and bussing your own tables. The entrance to form the mall above unfortunately looks a bit like an afterthought, I think they'd be better served by a view directly into that level or at least a better presentation of the space between the two escalators instead of basically an empty area. *which makes sense since the Albert Adria who is part of the group of founders of this location, having running collaborations with Vincens.

The concept is really fun. A giant food hall with restaurants , bars and kiosks , all Spanish . We sat at the bar and had sangria for happy hour . It was very tasty . We had some croquettes and empanadas. They came really fast and were nice and crispy. Service was great. It was a Monday and pretty crowded so I bet it's reselling jamming on a night they have a concert at Hudson Yards.

I wanted to try the blood sausage. I have been obsessed with blood sausage after my trip to Spain. The blood sausage here was good, but not as good as the ones in Spain. Also, they only gave me five little pieces which was a little disappointing. It came with two large eggs and fries. I feel like I had to fill my stomach up with fries and eggs and was still hungry. I wish there were more sausages. The sauce for the blood sausages was interesting. I think I would have liked it better without it. The sauce went better with the fries and the eggs. All in all, I don't think I would come back to this place next time I am in NYC.

This is conveniently located in Hudson Yards walking distance from Penn station which is why we came here. My friend and I met up here on a Sunday, and even at around 4 the wait for a table was about 40 minutes. The food is mostly the same everywhere. We waited to sit to be more comfortable but were unorthodox and went to get a churro with chocolate before eating dinner. The chocolate was really good dark chocolate, the churro not as fresh as I liked. They also have random things to buy like really good looking Spanish olive oil, but I didn't buy it because it had tourist trap prices at $35 for a small bottle. The sit down restaurant food was good if not a little pricey. We asked for extra bread and they charged us $3 for 3 small extra pieces. The octopus was very good and well flavored. The garlic shrimp was also good. The oysters were wonderfully briney and fresh. Overall good fun spot just a little over priced.

We sat at the bar and had a great time! Wednesdays offer half-priced bottles of wine, which was a nice bonus. Our bartender, Fernando G., was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the gambas al ajillo ($19.50), which were absolutely delicious, and paired them with a bottle of Muga white wine, which was excellent. Overall, a great experience--I'd definitely come back!

Vieira pipirrana ($18) - so so, but nice presentation

This Jose Andres creation is wonderful and great to roam around the lower level of Hudson Yards and get a bit of Spain, but I just couldn't give it 5 stars as there were a couple of items that we ordered that were kind of a flop. It's cool that the mercado (market in Spanish) are all little stalls where you purchase a Spanish tapas item like churros or jamón y queso or vino. We chose to sit at the bar and have a meal, which is pretty fun and our waiter was prompt and very nice. We ordered two non alcoholic sangrias, croquetas de pollo, pulpo a la Gallega, vieira pippirrana (spanish salad with scallops) and a basque cheesecake. Sangrias with no alcohol were not good, do not get this. Pulpo was very tender, good portion size and decent, I would recommend this dish and it is a known dish in Galicia, Spain. The croquetas were kind of soggy and mushy and I like them a bit more crunchy, so for $14, I would definitely pass on this dish. Spanish salad with scallops was ok and wasn't bad, but probably I would skip this as portions were very small and reminded me of a ceviche. I will say though the Basque cheesecake was delicious and recommend getting this. The only two dishes that I really enjoyed was the pulpo (but I have had better in Greek restaurants) and the Basque cheesecake. With taxes and tip, our meal came to close to $50/person. Not terrible but for some tapas and non alcoholic beverages, we would probably do better eating at the little kiosks. I'd definitely come back again to the mercadito as it is a fun place to check out and would come back to try the jamón y queso, churros ans bikinis/bocatas and have more Basque cheesecake. This is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon in the city. Nice addition the the city.

    Are the restaurants reservation only?

No, you can walk in as well!

Are they checking for vaccination cards?

When I went this past June, they didn't check.

Do they have Paella on the menu?

Yes they do. Not always available. Call ahead.

Is Mercado actually currently open? Wanting to go for Easter weekend but getting mixed messages and wasn't able to get through on to phone.

Yes, the different stalls are closed (churros, pasteles, flatbread), but it is open as a tapas restaurant.

Why is it open only after 5:00??? Tks

The table we sat at was quite large, and I think it could have fit a few more people. The staff was friendly, and the lighting wasn't too dark, nor was it too loud. While I liked the atmosphere, I found the food, or rather specifically the tapas, to be not good at best, while the main dishes were better but also ranged in quality. The fact that the tapas we ordered were pretty closely priced to the mains means I would recommend the mains only based on portion and taste alone. To drink, a bunch of us split a bottle of wine from their large and pretty reasonably priced selection. The first tapas that arrived was something that I could not eat. This was the Pulpo Zarautz for $32, listed as octopus with garlic and merken seasoning served over mashed baby potatoes. The dish was small, and people thought it was OK as they found the pieces of octopus a tad chewy. They liked the spices but were surprised that the potatoes were a bit cool. The $24 Gambas Al Ajillo, with slow-cooked prawns, white wine, EVOO, garlic, and mermen, was alright. There was a handful of shrimp, and they were decently cooked, but the "ajillo," or rather, the garlic, was very light. Therefore, I found it a bit bland, which is almost never the case for this dish. I wouldn't recommend this based on price and flavor. Last and least of the tapas was the $22 Tortilla De Patatas, listed simply as a Spanish omelette. There was an option to add chorizo for $2 more, which we did. Along with the omelette, this also arrived with a few sauces and some pieces of crunchy bread, which were the highlight, as the omelette wasn't good either. The texture of the omelette was very different than any other Spanish omelette I've ever had. It was quite soft with a bit of chew, with a mild chorizo flavor. Along with the greenish color, it wasn't exactly appetizing. I wouldn't recommend this at all, but thankfully, that was the last tapas we ordered. My favorite of the main dishes was the Solomillo & Pebre for $28, listed as skirt steak topped with parsley and olive oil, with hand-cut fried potato and salad. While not the most tender, as it is a skirt steak, it was still well-flavored with the topping almost reminding me, to an extent, of a less oily version of chimichurri. The potatoes had a unique texture, being slightly crispy on the outside while remaining slightly soft in the middle. The salad on the side, which also arrived with one of our other mains, was a tasty mix and certainly more effort than a typical salad you find in many of these places. We also liked the $32 Costillas De Cerdito, with pork ribs in beer, mustard, and rosemary with hand-cut fried potato and salad. The pork ribs were flavorful, though I did find a bit of it to be a bit fatty, but some of that is expected with pork ribs. The mildly sweet and slightly rich sauce paired with the pork ribs. The same comments from before can be made about the potatoes and salad. Last was the OK Paella De Mariscos for $38, listed as rice cooked with shrimp, mussels, clams, prawns, and fresh saffron. The portion size was good, with a lot of mussels and clams in particular, and a handful of shrimp. Of the bite I had of the two large prawns, they were plump and juicy as well. However, the rice was both a bit bland and a tad mushy and felt a bit overcooked compared to many other paellas. There was some socarrat on the bottom as per usual, which was the best part. It's a bit difficult to rate this place. The spices, textures, and flavors were lacking from the overpriced tapas, and I honestly wouldn't recommend any of them. For the main dishes, they were tasty, but you can get a better-cooked skirt steak at many other places for a similar price. The ribs were decent, and the paella was just OK. If we only had the tapas, I probably would be giving this place a 1, but for the whole meal, an upper 2, rounded up.

The croquettes were nicely presented, I enjoyed the sauces that adorned each croquette, they had a slightly crunchy outer layer, and the serving was four. The meatballs were amazing.
