One my favorite places to have breakfast and chill. Small place to have great food with ambiance of a Parisian cafe. I love just going to read the paper and have a latte or catch up on work on the computer with eggs bacon and side of fresh fruit. It is a great place to do both. I had the most delicious Steele cut oats topped with cherries, pineapples, honey dew, raspberries and blackberries..highly recommend. My husband had an egg sandwich. I had an awful experience here today. I ordered a beef wrap off the menu (outside and on the register) and the attendant said I couldn't get it because they "didn't know how to make it". I then asked for a ham and cheese croissant, also on the menu, but they "were out of croissants". (It was 12.30pm on a Saturday, so go figure.) Finally, I ordered a turkey club sandwich, which was served on stale bread. I felt sick all afternoon. It's a nice little French cafe. I came in for lunch around 1pm and ordered the beef sandwich, which was quite good. And for an overall cost of $10, the price is right. The location is convenient, within minutes of the Jefferson building. The seating is nothing spectacular (think of a typical Chinese takeout), but there is some outdoor seating. Great food! When I'm in DC it's one of my favorite places to eat. The French toast is exceptional.

Le Bon Cafe can be wonderful. I've been going there since I began working at the Library of Congress (16 years ago). HOWEVER, lately I've noticed that often, if you're getting a carry out, they substitute items on the menu without consulting you when you make the purchase. Today (11/20/14) is a case in point. I ordered the Baby Spinach salad. The menu says "with mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, goat cheese and almonds & orange vinagarette. What I got was spinach with orange sections, walnuts and the same green dressing they serve with the Salmon Salad Nicoise (Deffinintely NOT orange vinagrette). Last week, I ordered their granola with fruit and whole milk - I got granola with canteloup and skim milk. This has happened too many times for me to continue goiong there. read more

This place is exactly what I was looking for in a cute, local brunch spot. They have great coffee and lots of options for breakfast. I did not look at the lunch menu, but people around me had sandwiches and they looked fantastic. The fruit was very fresh and the omelette I had was fantastic! Honestly didn't even notice the staff because they just take your order and put the food out on the counter when it is finished. I did notice the prices were extremely low compared to other brunch spots. My omelette with potatoes was only $7 and it filled me up. I highly suggest this happy, Parisian brunch spot! read more

I had to arrange a boxed lunch for a group of 15 international and local guests who were moving from meeting to meeting in DC. I called Le Bon and explained that our group needed food that was fresh, tasty, not too carb heavy, and easy to transport through building security. I worked with the owner, who was extremely flexible, accommodating, and on the ball. She made sure we got the meal we wanted based off of our preferences and communicated really well with me. The food itself was impressive. It came in portable and stackable containers (much easier to carry than other bulkier boxed lunches), with compartments for each of the sides (rather than separate packaging for each minimizing waste). Our group of 15 from all over the world with varying tastes loved the food and remarked it was their favorite meal (and they had been eating well during their stay). We had a choice of three sandwiches (all delicious), a side of spring mix salad with a unique, flavorful dressing (not your usual, boring vinaigrette), a side of fresh fruit (good fruit - not cantaloupe and honeydew), and a selection of freshly baked desserts (again, not your basic, uninspired chocolate chip cookie). And the meal came to under $15 per person, an extremely affordable option for quality food, service, and presentation. I like this place for a couple reasons. First, the cafe au lait and pain au chocolat. Both are quite good. If you order a large cafe au lait, they serve it to you in a bowl. Reminds me of Paris. Its true that lunch spots are lacking on Capitol Hill, most of us hill staffers get stuck in the same routine of flocking to the Cafeterias where the food is dismal and the prices are worst, but Bon Cafe has made my weeks much brighter recently- THEY DELIVER! Bon Cafe has been my go to spot for years during recess weeks, and often on the weekends as well - I'm a sucker for among many of their items the lavender lemonade and chicken panini and their French toast, fresh fruit and fresh orange juice are a staple after my long saturday morning running club. However, most weeks when the Senate is in session I find it difficult to take the time away from my desk to trek over to Bon Cafe, especially when the way ( though always worth it) can be unpredictable. BUT Bon Cafe has done what no other delicious hill cafe has done before. They deliver. I've used them 3 times now, once for myself only, another time with a group of colleagues and today when I couldn't bear the thought of walking around the cafeteria again. Each time I place my order simply and quickly over the phone, and tell them where I am located ( the capitol building in my case) and then they give me an estimated time and call when they are outside the door. Today it took only 10 minutes for them to get the sandwich made and to my door, still warm! I'm thrilled to know that when I'm craving the grilled chicken panini (which is often) I no longer have to wait until the senate recess to make it happen! Stopped by your cafe today for the first time around 1:30. Had the misfortune of having Kelly take my order. This young lady clearly did not have her heart in it. First I asked if there were any croissants left to buy and she glanced over at a rack of to the side and said, "no". That's it, one word. No effort to mention something else instead. I then asked Kelly if there were any muffins left. Once again, "no" was the one word response. Finally I asked if the Banana Choc Chip Bread was available she said no again but a co-worker spoke up and said that there was a loaf just made. Good grief I was actually able to eat something. Is Kelly simply there to ring up the items if there is actually something to buy, or was she hired to help your customers as well? She clearly could care less if I was given assistance buying anything. I also had to ask her for my reciept while she was looking away and not paying attention to the sell. Unfortunately, this place has gone downhill. What was once a consistently good choice for breakfast and coffee has become uneven and sadly mediocre. The management changed a number of years ago and the quality of both the food and the staff declined. It's a shame. read more

This place hit the spot for our group of five. We ordered a variety of sandwiches and salads. They were all served with a warm "French potato salad" which was more like breakfast potatoes, but good. Of particular note, the curried turkey sandwich was nicely spiced and a very generous portion. It was too hot to sit outside on the day we visited, but they have quite a lot of seating in front of the café with festive flower boxes and some shade umbrellas. read more
