I came here on a recommendation for something healthy in the area, when the place I had planned to go to was closed for renovation. I'm happy I went here and I'd definitely stop back during my fairly frequent trips to this neighborhood. Prices are reasonable. You can either get a mezze platter, a bowl and a mezze, or a large bowl. I ended up getting the Chili Sin Carne which was a chili served over beans, brown rice, and quinoa. I also got the sushi appetizer which was one of the best things I've had in ages (and I eat out a lot), and I'm already craving it again and plan to make a trip back here for it. The atmosphere is casual and quaint. It's a great place to sit down with friends, especially after shopping on the East Side. They do have wine as well! I subbed in cauli rice which surprise added a dollar, so the dish ended up being the same price as the build your own bowl - do that instead. The veggies were seasoned well and it was an okay amount of food for the price. Only two complaints: 1) My friend got a glass of wine that definitely smelled rancid and even though they replaced her glass they claimed it's because the wine was organic, not because it was gross. 2) Seating. They assemble your bowl in front of you, sort of cafeteria style. You get your food on a tray and seat yourself. However, the casual nature of this place doesn't detract from the high quality and flavors of the ingredients. When I stopped in after a half work day for a solo lunch, I got a glass of Sauvignon blanc to accompany my Tibetan Mama bowl which consisted of peanut curry with chickpeas, kale, broccoli, kimchi and brown rice. It was delicious and filling but also light enough to not bog you down. Bowls are around $13 a pop, so for what it is, it's reasonably priced. Especially for NYC. I ended up ordering another sushi platter, but could have easily eaten more because I was still hungry. My mom enjoyed her dishes, but also still felt hungry, which says a lot because she hardly ever finishes her meals at restaurants. She ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert. She called it Death by Chocolate because it was so chocolatey, but those are her favorite types of desserts, so she enjoyed it. Overall, I give this restaurant a 3/5. Even though I appreciate the healthy, vegan and gluten-free fare, and it is a wonderful lunch option for individuals watching their diet, I think Le Botaniste falls short in a few ways: 1.
