I was definitely craving some vegetables when I came across this lovely organic, vegan, and great gluten-free spot. This spot was simple, pretty, with a great variety of foods that were quite delicious and healthy. Definitely hit the spot with that Moroccan stew - and having it made into a bowl with quinoa made it more filling and delicious. I also really enjoyed the soup of the day, which was a tomato soup, topped with fresh herbs and nuts on top which made the soup much more refreshing. The Chia brownie was also really good, and the cashew cream made it even better! (overall it was good and not too too sweet) The ladies that work here were lovely and very friendly, and despite us coming in late, let us sit around and continue chatting while they cleaned up shop and closed up. Thank you for that!!! I can't believe I've known about this place for so many years and have never stopped by until today. Le Botaniste is still a great concept, but execution seems to have slid downhill. I most recently stopped in for dinner on a rainy evening, and there were buckets out in several places where the ceiling was leaking. It eventually started dripping directly onto the payment tablet, and the staff just had to turn it off. When I went downstairs to use the restroom, there was water pooled on the floor of the kitchen. The bowls are still good, but the coco ceviche was gross. Maybe the recipe changed, or maybe it just wasn't fresh by 7:30pm, but neither my partner nor I could enjoy it. Whereas it used to taste bright and refreshing, it's now kind of pungent/garlicky and the young coconut was kind of soggy instead of having the chewy texture of a king oyster mushroom. read more

I liked this place, but I loved the food better. My friend introduced me to one of the locations near her house, but that location closes on weekends. Therefore, here we were, enjoying our Saturday brunch. They have inside and outside seatings, but we preferred outside although the tables are close together. Here, you order inside and pay, then take your tray whenever you want to eat. I had DIY Hot Bowl (Moroccan Stew + Quinoa + Green vegetable). It was so delicious! I highly recommend the Moroccan Stew! My friend had the same stew but with something else. It looked great too. She even had a lemonade iced tea. She said the lemonade was not too sweet, which I would like. Next time! I've passed by this place a lot from work and I was really intrigued by it especially since my partner is a vegetarian and I like taking him places where he can choose anything from the menu and this was one of the places that I wanted to take him to the most. The interior was really beautiful and I love they have a lot of seating options from inside, backyard patio, and outdoor street seating. They have countertop service so you can see the food and even create your own bowls if you like. The servers are very nice and willing to answer any questions we had. Since it was our first time we chose meals from the menu and got the lemonade, black tea, summer roll, spicy chili sin carne, and pasta bolo. The food looked really good but ended up being just average. The lemonade was not very sweet or tangy like regular lemonade. The summer roll was heavy in kale which is bitter and the other ingredients and dipping sauce didn't really help balance out the bitterness. The summer roll also spills out everywhere making a big mess too. The pasta bolo is just ok, there's not much flavor and the pasta is not al dente so there's no contrast of texture in the dish. The only thing that was alright was the spicy chili sin carne, but it still wasn't very spicy. All in all, it was a fun try and I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant, but the food really missed the mark in terms of flavor and did not satisfy our taste. If you're looking for a place with a healthy, vegan menu this is place is for you, but I wouldn't come back here. There are much better vegan restaurants out there! read more

I love that now you can create your own custom bowls with pretty much any of their ingredients. (Maybe you could do that before, but it wasn't advertised clearly that you could?) But I LOVE their coconut curry sauce and will put it on pretty much anything. They also have cauliflower rice as a base, which is nice when you're looking for something a little lighter. The prices are a tad on the high side for me to want to come back on a more regular basis, though. The pricing for the bowls are more or less fine, but the smaller bites and desserts are a little mind-boggling. The summer roll (just one) that I got once wasn't very big and it was almost $9! The omega-3 was delicious (albeit quite dry and REALLY needs the cashew cream that comes on the side with it) but really tiny for being almost $5. It was maybe three bites ... two if you take big bites. So, for me, I'll stick with the bowls and keep trying different combinations. read more

So we decided to walk from LES to Penn Station and got super hungry on our walk. My companion is a strict vegan so we found Le Botaniste to get something warm. I am not a vegan, but I don't mind partaking - I refer to myself as a part time vegan because of family that is. It has a cute vibe ... the apothecary shelves filled with wines and old pull bottles...very cute. The seating area with comfy but very brightly lit which made it a little sterile. It's a menu of stews, soups, salads and some appetizers, desserts and wine. Everything is apparently organic and natural including natural wines. It's a cafeteria concept - you walk by and pick your grains, soup/sauce/salad and then toppings and drinks. You pay and take your tray to the back seating area. There were a whole bunch of Dutch ovens on the counter keeping the food warm. It was quite inviting. I opted for the curry over brown rice. The curry was delicate with a little hint of spice (I could have used more spice) and it came with some steamed greens and kimchi. The steamed greens were kale and broccoli and they were a good contrast with the rich curry. The kimchi was not a kimchi, I was not into it. My companion had the maroccan tajine. It was basically a veggie stew with quinoa and a maroccan spiced sauce. It came with harissa which added a little kick. We washed it down with some sparkling wine. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They put up with our questions. Prices of the food were reasonable but the wine was overpriced. I know it was "natural wine" but in that cafeteria like setting it was a little too much. Overall, this is a good place for vegans and non vegans alike. This will be the perfect place to go on a rainy or snowy or dreary day to warm up with some comfort food. read more

This is a place you don't regret going to! The food here is clean, vegan, and so flavorful. You get good portions and for the quality the price is so right. Lots of options to choose from, from pasta to miso noodles to curry bowls. I've been twice and tried the tajine (clear veggie broth loaded with root veggies over quinoa), tibetian mama (coconut curry with veggies over brown rice - a heavier / heartier option), and the miso noodle bowl (with gluten free noodles - this one was a bit salty, which is expected for a miso dish). Also tried the beet balls and they had a great dense, meaty texture without feeling overpowered with beet flavor. For those who are hesitant to try vegan food, the food here definitely doesn't lack on substance or flavor. If you want a healthy option, aren't sure what kind of food you're in the mood for, or feel like your body needs a pick-me-up, you can't go wrong here! So as you may know I grew up eating a macrobiotic diet. So when my friends who are vegan want to go out I get excited. Upon their suggestion we came here for dinner. Set up as a quick serve Vegan restaurant the presentation upon ordering is very impressive. Nothing here looks, well, vegan. It's like I'm sitting in my grandmother's kitchen with Dutch ovens boiling on the stovetop. I ordered chili with what appears to be a coconut cream and pickled veg. It was delicious and the texture completely removed the desire for meat completely. I drank a lemonade which was light and tasty. For dessert a chianti pudding with fruit on top.
