I love Le Caprice! And I love walking by every morning and smelling the croissants. They really do have the best croissants in DC, especially when you can get them fresh. And their baked goods always satisfy my sweet tooth--particularly their breakfast pastries. You need to try their pistachio croissants. I always get their apple and brie sandwich, but their other sandwiches are also very good. And the owner is one of the kindest people I've ever met and his employees all seem very happy. Overrated! It smells amazing, every time I walk by, but somehow, every time I go in to order something it is only mediocre. I don't know what it is that smells so good but I haven't found anything that actually tastes amazing. The environment is cool. I think two stars is generous but I don't have the heart to give anyone only 1 star. I ordered cannoli and carrot cake through uber eats. I had a promo code and still don't even think the food was worth while. Both treats had a waxy consistency and minimal flavor. If i didn't know that i ordered a cannoli I wouldn't have believed that's what I was eating. Additionally the cannoli shell was soggy. The best bakery in DC. I love their fruit tarts--always with fresh fruit and super tasty. Everything here tastes good. Their turnovers are the bomb. I love their spinach ones. It's heaven in my mouth--perfectly buttery and flaky outside with the perfect ratio of spinach and cheese inside. Plus staff is super friendly. I love this place. Anytime I think about buying deserts anywhere else, I always hesitate because the quality here is so much better. And their prices are really great. I love Le caprice! read more

Staff were slow, rude as hell when my friend asked them to make her drink correctly as she had ordered, and the prices were ridiculous ($4.39 for a medium iced coffee?!?!). Le Caprice has a nice assortment of baked and non-baked desserts. Their creme brûlée is a nice, light custard. Instead of burning the top, they sprinkle brown sugar for a subtle, grainy texture. I prefer mine a little sweeter with a burnt top, but appreciate their version. read more

The croissants really are "the best". Sweet and flakey but crispy outside. Pistachio is my favorite, despite the $4.something with tax price. I've been a little disappointed with the coffee and the large cookies - they look better than they taste (unless you prefer a really light crumbling cookie.) But the croissants... After seeing all the rave reviews, I had to try Le Caprice out, especially being it's a 3 minute jaunt from my new place. Had a tuna melt, which is a new item for them, and it was quite tasty. Tuna melts are hard to screw up, but this one was definitely above average in the grand scheme of tuna melts. What I was incredibly disappointed with, given the all hype surrounding them, was the baguette I bought to take home. Horrible crust, cardboard flavor, just all-around lousy and a very unpleasant surprise. Either Yelpers have no idea what they're talking about or this place is incredibly inconsistent. I hate to accuse them of this, but it honestly seems like on this particular day, they didn't have the resources to make their baguettes, so in a last-minute scramble they bought them from somewhere else. I sure hope that's not the case, and I'll probably give them one more chance, but I baguette your pardon? This was honestly a pathetic attempt at a baguette. I'll definitely be back to grab a quick bite, work on my laptop, and try one of their storied pain au chocolats. There's also great people watching to be done. Just back from Paris and sad about leaving the croissants. I got up early, jet lag early, and walked over to Le Caprice. It was my first time but I'd heard about the croissants. I enjoyed mine. Not quite as flaky as Paris but it'll do. Compared to other croissants in the states it is stellar. Next time I will try the rice cookies, made with rice flour and rose water. Gluten free, I believe, for those who can't indulge. And props for the on-site bakery. read more

Le Caprice is a cute cafe and bakery with lots of grab-and-go options in addition to some seating inside and outside. Their breakfast sandwiches are a-ok and they make a pretty good latte, but the food isn't particularly mind-blowing. I have been a couple times now, and it was hard to find a seat inside both times--though when it was warmer, sitting on the patio was very nice. All in all, this place is a safe bet for a quick breakfast or lunch in Columbia Heights--there just isn't a ton of personality. read more

Starting with the good stuff: all the croissants (plain, chocolate, almond, and hazelnut) are out of this world. Fluffy and warm in the morning, they are quite a treat. The baguettes are great, but a bit difficult to get your hands on (they are made around lunchtime and usually still out by the end of workday). A few of their desserts are also good. On the downside: the outdoor area is next to the public toilet for all dogs living in the apartment building upstairs (the patch of grass by the fire station). The side next to the grass can get a bit smelly in the summer, but it's not a problem on the other side. Also, other than the croissants and bagguettes I have been pretty disappointed by the other food. Every time I have had a lunch sandwich I have been rather disappointed. The sandwich breads other than the baguettes are pretty mediocre and the sandwiches are pricey for what they are. Finally, service here can be rather slow. It's a good spot for a lazy Sunday, but it's a little slow to order anything that isn't premade in the mornings before work or for a quick lunch. read more

I have not been here for about 2 years due to relocation and travel schedules. The place have gotten a little crowded due to more equipment, though the table capacity is the same; I guess business really is doing well. The plants at the curbside look fabulous. I saw my fave people, Mr. Erfani and Amerika, other staff that are all so familiar, and they recognized me the moment I walked in. I ordered the same pan au chocolat and the almond croissant and they fab. One minute thing is that these pastries are not as flaky as I was used to last time, but it is still good. This place is incredibly close to my apartment... It's actually in my apartment. Very quaint. Sometimes I grab a croissant or a chai on my way out of the building. On Saturdays, if it's a nice day, I sit outside and shoot the shit with my friends David and Terence. I had to take refuge here one time when there was a shooting outside my building and the cops had taped off the entrance to the lobby. Sat in Le Caprice and waited for them to clean the blood off the doors. Prices could be lower, only downside. read more

I agree with Katherine's review below. I've visited here several times and its definitely seems hit or miss. The first time I went I got a croissant, a carrot cake cupcake, and two frech macarons. The croissant was stale, the carrot cake was uninspired, and the chocolate mararon was hard as rock (to be fair the vanilla was delish). Uh...I was like what's with the great reviews? I went again a week later and OMG, I understood what the reviews were about. The chocolate croissant was heaven! Fresh, flaky, not too sweet and simply wonderful. Just like the stuff you get in Europe. The cream puff with caramel on top was devine also...I was so happy that I resolved to forget about the first expereince... I went back yesterday. I got a chocolate croissant and a chocolate cake. The chocolate croissant was ok - on its way to being stale but not quite yet. I heated it up for a few seconds on my microwave and it was good. The chocoalte cake? Eh...I've had way better. So overall three stars - for now...I'll probably go one more time just because I love my pain au chocolate. Maybe in the mornings when things are just baked. Every time I've visited thus far has been in the evening after work...but it really does appear that this place is starting to let its quality slip...I hope not as I would love to be a regular...but we'll see... read more

I have fallen in love with this delightful bakery! It is lovely, relaxed, and offers delicious and light sandwiches and pastries. I was pleased with my Turkey bacon BLT sandwich served on marble wheat bread. Oh, yeah and the coffee is great too. Everytime I visit this place with the intention to grab something good and run to continue errands, I can't help but sit and enjoy my meal or treat in this comfortable atmosphere. I only wish that there were a few more traditional cookie options, like more decorated sugar cookies and basic chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies, and better parking in the neighborhood. This review is for the macarons..if that's what you want to call them. I see there are a lot of people mentioning the croissants, which I did not get to try. I stopped by one day to get something sweet, I saw macarons that were ridiculously small but decided to try them anyways. Boy was that a mistake! The macaron was about the size of my thumb and was $1.50. I walked up to the counter and was not greeted (the people here were very rude). I asked for a passion fruit and mango macaron, paid and left. When I got home I realized they gave me an orange and mango macaron, these were disgusting. How does a bakery bake something like this then sell it to the public? Please take a trip to California and see how a real macaron tastes like. read more

Almond croissant! Actually, everything I have ordered here has been delicious. The first time I visited for a cup of coffee I ordered an almond croissant at the last second. My husband teased me for the lack of self control, then proceeded to inhale my treat after I offered him a bite. Needless to say, I always order two now! This is one of my favorite DC cafes. Their croissants are exquisite. Flaky, light, and the best I've had anywhere in town. This is not a formal or intimidating French bakery. It's casual and comfortable, and the folks who run it are delightful. I've only done business with this bakery once, but they knocked my experience out of the park! I had to get a breakfast order for my dept. at work and not only was the food fantastic, but I paid less than I was quoted the day before. The spinach and feta pastry is absolutely amazing! My only caveat is that my order wasn't ready when I arrived, granted I was about 10 minutes early. However, as I waited, the owner gifted me with a small pastry and small coffee as I waited. Ordered a sheet of their tres leches cake for a baby shower. It was absolutely delicious! Everybody loved it! I had a minor problem with the order (they didn't write my message on top) but they had no problem doing it on the spot. I ordered a chai latte while I waited and it was amazing! I live in Columbia Heights and was looking for a cafe close to my apartment. When I first found Le Caprice, I loved it for its chocolate croissants and coffee. Also, the bakery goods are amazing! But, I have a few gripes. First, it's pretty expensive for what it is. Additionally, the croissants are great, but the coffee has become pretty hit-or-miss and it is never very strong. Finally, the wait is a bit longer than what I'm used to for a cafe. I still like this Le Caprice for a croissant or bagel on the weekends, but it isn't my go-to breakfast and coffee place. read more

I tried to give this business a chance. But today's scam really took the cake. I ordered a chocolate cake online and received a phone call explaining that the item was sold out. The person told me that they only had tres leches 4 times. When I asked for a refund she interrupted me and told me that there was one more chocolate cake available that's bigger for $5 more. I was trying to ask for a refund and she kept trying to up sell me the cake that's $5 extra. After her repeating about the $5 literally 7 times I finally gave in (huge mistake). So my husband went in to pick up the cake and when he got in the car he passed me the cake that was custom made for a yorkie. I called them back asking for my refund and the manager refused to speak to me and kept me on hold. Honestly, if you want a cake that's worth your hard earned money please go to whole foods. This place is not worth it. I'm really big on supporting small local businesses but this place doesn't give two squats about people at least people like me. read more

I am in mid bite and I had to write about how delicious this fruit tart is! The cream has a light sweetness that compliments the even sweeter crust that has a nice crunch to it....The crust is amazing, the cream is amazing, and the fruit isn't soggy as it is in some other fruit tarts that I've had. I also had the tuna melt earlier, and it was quite delicious...but this fruit tart is just divine. I think I'll be going back tomorrow to gorge myself in some more pastries. read more
