OMG THE OYSTERS. I started to feel like the Walrus from Alice in Wonderland, eating up all the baby oysters! Got a 1/2dozen, and had to order another 1/2dozen they were just that good. So incredibly fresh and delicious. We also tried the Croque Madame which was executed perfectly. The view of Hudson and the area in general were just beautiful, my time here won't soon be forgotten. Horrible host for the outdoor seating . It was midday and 90 percent of the seats were empty. No way she couldn't give as a table for 2 at that time . I live nearby and I know that most of those table will not be used until 1pm or later . The worst part was her attitude . I had a fine time at Liberty Bistro. The environment and ambiance is beautiful, bright and airy. Fortunately I was able to attend on a very beautiful day which helped as well. I went as a solo venture and ordered a dozen blue point oysters and the French onion soup. The oysters were fine, nothing too crazy. A rude and uptight French experience. Stopped by for some drinks at 2pm. Waiter rolled her eyes and said, "Oh, you're not going to order any food?" No. It's 2pm, I already ate lunch. Even though I wasn't hungry, I ordered desert to make her feel better. She said, "Just one desert for two people?" Yes. What is going on with all this questioning? When the desert was finished she quickly cleared the table and asked if we wanted the check. Felt more like she insisted we take the check. I said, sure. Paid the bills and even before us leaving she came back to check the bill. I'm assuming to see how much I tipped. I still tipped 20% because I'm way too nice. Ordered Steak Frites medium well (arrived over cooked) and lamb chops well down (arrived raw). Took OVER 1 hour to even order as we had to ask the hostess to send someone to our table. Came here for a late brunch on a Sunday with four other people. It was very busy but we had a reservation so we sat down immediately. Ordered the house made bread (3/5) and egg white omelette (3/5). Everything was fine but nothing special, although I did try the beet and fig salad (3.5/5) and that was quite nice and fresh. Liberty Bistro is a cute and vibrant restaurant located behind Brookfield place. At night, you can get the views of Jersey with twinkle lights all around you. It's truly captivating. However, the food is sub-par. The charcuterie board use to be cheese and meats but now they only allow you to choose one or the other. I had the burger medium rare and it was average for the establishment that it is delivered from. Same with the pasta. Nothing was bad, but nothing was incredible or out of the ordinary. read more

Im torn how I should review this place, I am in between 2 and 3 stars. Beautiful location, and on a really nice day, the sunset is great. And eating outdoors, with the lovely decor, it is worth it. They have a "van gogh experience" prix fix menu that is really nicely priced. Appetizers- flash fried cauliflower and a watermelon salad. Salad was excellent, cauliflower was OK entrees- this is the letdown. Chicken paillard was terrible. It wasnt burnt, but it tasted like the chicken was rubbed again the bottom of a grill that was used for 20 years. SO disgusting. The aftertaste just made it inedible. The burger had a similar flavor, rendering it pretty awful. Plus, little minor things made it worse, ex. No cheese on the burger when we paid extra for it, no ketchul for fries, the stick said "well done" when we asked for medium, no utensils. Dessert - creme brulee was standard, and lemon merengue was ok. Overall, beautiful place, maybe willing to give it another try but the quality of the entrees, im not so sure! read more

My gf took me here for Valentine's Day. The restaurant and the views are absolutely beautiful. The outdoor patio seating has all flowers dangling from the ceiling. Randomly stubbled upon this restaurant while walking along the pier. Very happy I did cause this place has such great cocktails and food, and great vibes (feels like you're on a beach!). We just ordered something small -- Mozzarella & Tomato -- since we already had dinner. It was a good portion size and felt very light but tasty! I specifically come here for the St Germain Cocktail -- so delicious -- so I highly recommend to anyone who likes gin! My second round did taste very tart and sour, but we asked if they could make another one and they brought it over! Since this restaurant is right on the water, the best time to stop by is during sunset and at night. The first thing we noticed was that the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other. When we gave our order to the waiter, we asked that the volume be turned down. When we asked him again, He said he couldn't do that. While the food we ordered was good and the view beautiful, the service was just awful. The waiter dropped our plates on the table and never came back to see if we needed anything. My table mate had to get up and walk across the restaurant to ask for salt and pepper. One of our party was still eating when the waiter walked over and grabbed the other plates from the table. So rude! After that, as we still wanted dessert, we left and went nearby to PJ Clark's. After a full morning of visiting Lady Liberty on her island and Ellis nearby, we ferried over to not far from Liberty Bistro and decided to lunch during this late afternoon weekday. Note, that as with nearly every restaurant in the area, one is advised to make an advanced reservation. We called ahead and were pleased they could accommodate. Dined within, and the space was uncrowded, open and beautiful. Our server, Emanuel was most gracious and efficient. We found the wines by the bottle reasonable and ordered a bubbly. It was excellent! Fresh, yeasty rolls are served on request. I chose the Roasted Salmon with French green lentils and red wine reduction. The fish was tender, delicately flakey and delicious! My companions raved about the Lobster Roll, and the Nicoise Salad. We finished with a couple scoops of the bistro's signature ice cream, and well, I HAD to try the Opera Cake with a cup of strong, hot, fresh coffee.... What a fabulous finish! read more

Was gutted when Beaubourg went out as we went there quite frequently, but was excited to give Liberty Bistro a try. Overall, we decided we probably won't return. Although the ambiance was lovely, very busy and a gorgeous sunset and night outside-the food and service were not worth it. The people who brought our drinks were absolutely lovely, but our waiter was just not it. I asked for bread at one point, and he literally threw two rolls at us, no butter, no side plates etc. At one point he brought over the dessert menu before we got our mains...there was just a lot of different people coming over at different points and it was just a bit jarring. Lastly, the food. I cannot lol. This is the main reason why we're not coming back. The prices, for what we got, were absolutely insane. Potatoes au gratin-$12 for one small stack, mozzarella salad (I wish I had taken a photo to show you how small it was) $18. The prices were just nowhere near worth the price. We had one drink each, a burger, lobster cocktail, tomato mozz salad, potatoes au gratin -$150. Yikes. read more

Today made me realize that Liberty Bistro is just a tourist trap an no one should ever enter this establishment and spend their hard earned money, certainly not a New Yorker! My Husband Peter and I were meeting my sister Joyce and her friend Bea there for lunch after they visited the 911 Memorial. It started off quite well, we were seated at a fantastic table and given menus.... When our waiter arrived we ordered drinks and our meals. When the four drinks arrived, 3 had been made wrong, as we were telling our waiter the problem our food arrived; it was so quick that it felt like it had to be someone else's food.. The waiter realized that the issue with the drinks was his fault and he apologized and said he would replace them immediately. One came right away and the other 2 arrived when we already were half done with our meals, and yes, wait for it,....... they were made wrong again!!!!! Upon telling the waiter he became defensive and gave me an attitude so I asked for the manager. When she arrived she offered to take all the drinks off of the bill and buy us 2 more rounds or one round and dessert. WONDERFUL! When we were ready to order that round and dessert, there was not a waiter to be found..... we were told they were all inside having a meeting and it would be a few minutes...... when the wait staff returned from inside, we asked a waiter standing near by if we could order dessert and he said, "Oh My God, We Just Got Out Of A Meeting And You're Going To Have To Give Me A Few Minutes"....... We all looked at each other and said, "Let's Go". I must say that leaving without paying the bill certainly got their attention. We were halfway down the promenade when 6 staff members came running, none of them had our bill. After a lot of rude back and fourth, I happily paid the bill for our meals and we left. Its an absolute shame that the food at Liberty Bistro is so wonderful because there is nothing about the rest of the experience of dining there that is worth your money or your time. I use to come here and always ordered an amazing drink that was made from ketel one but the ketal one botanicals , it's like an all natural botanical vodka with cucumber and mint drink that was my go to for brunch and work meetings . Came here today the food was on point but I noticed my fav drink wasn't on the menu . I was bummed but something told me to describe it to the server. Thank goodness I did ! They had it !!!! I'm giving it 4 stars cause I almost left without ordering my favorite drink I thought they didn't have it anymore . Gorgeous location. Went for dinner with a friend and our boys. Watched the sun set. We were seated outside near the door but since the music was so loud, we moved closer to the water. Food was fine. Service was horrendous! Bus boys are very attentive filling water and clearing plates. However, no waiter ever approached our table. We had to flag down a young lady who was kind enough to take our order but assured us our waiter would arrive to check on us. We finished our food and continued to wait for a waiter. Finally asked a bus boy for a manager so we could get our check and pay the bill. When I explained to the manager no waiter had attended to us for our 1.5 hours there, he was kind enough to correct me and let me know I had only been there for 1 hour and 15 minutes. All the tables around us were getting attention from waiters. Not sure if the lack of service was due to the color of our skin or because we had teenage boys with us. Next time we'll just grab food from the Brookfield Place Restaurants and sit at the tables on the water. Same great view without dealing with poor service. read more

Beautiful location. It was a perfect day by the water. We were seated outside and it felt magical. I had the Miraval Rosé which was exactly what the doctor ordered on this sunny day. I started with the Basil, Mozzarella and Kumoto Tomato salad. It was perfectly seasoned and very refreshing. He had the Potato Leek soup of the day. When he had his first bite, his eyes opened real big and he said "WOW"! By far the best potato leek soup he's ever had. I think you guys have spoiled him forever. Then I had the Moules Marinière. They were very good. Slightly creamy broth with a hint of anise coming from the fennel. I was a bit disappointed with the fries which were on the soggy and greasy side. They seemed to be single fried, instead of the more appropriate double fried. He had the steak (looked like a ribeye) frites which was cooked to the requested doneness and he enjoyed the fries. Food here was just okay (3/5) we ordered the Lady Liberty seafood tower (very fresh and decent amount of lobster), escargot (very bland, wouldn't order again and normally I love it), steak tartare (delicious and prepared tableside), and mussels ( just okay, sauce was straight up butter with little other flavor). Terrible waiter, terrible service. Had a gathering with a couple colleagues here. The food was ok, but the server is rude and the service is non-existence. It is close to 100 degrees outside, and we had to ask for water for multiple times and some of us still won't get water. And the water won't be refilled unless we specifically asked for it. A colleague asked if a dish was vegetarian, and the server said yes. And it turns out to be a fish dish. The server explained that some vegetarians eat fish, but... why not just clarify before hand? She turned away the fish, but it still appeared in the final bill. The bill came with a 20% mandatory tip, which is outrageous, given this joke of a service. My colleague used her card and she was nice. If it were me, I would have put a negative additional tip to bring it down to 5%. This waiter doesn't even deserve 5%. read more
