I've been to Italy multiple times and grew up around Italian baking, and this is hands down the best frittelle I've ever tasted. This is a real Italian bakery, and once you step inside, the space completely opens up--high ceilings, a beautiful interior, and a hidden, speakeasy feel you'd never expect from the street. Most places serve it in a paper cup where the espresso and gelato just blend into a mushy mess. Not here. Carrara's presents it beautifully on a stone tray, with a proper espresso cup and a transparent glass so you can actually see the layers of gelato and espresso. She and her crew closed that store last year and are in the process of finding a new location to resume baking, but she recently offered her customers the opportunity to purchase some of the delightful cookies again online. I jumped at that! I ordered a box of 12 saffron Kolompeh, and a mini brass spoon with a pomegranate design. The packaging was pretty as always and included a note from her. In the past I had ordered a variety gift box, Kolompeh, kitchen herbs and coasters. Everything is high quality and unique. The Kolompeh are "almost" too pretty to eat! They are buttery and flaky, not too sweet, and some varieties are gluten free. Perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. I have also enjoyed them with yogurt and berries. She and her business are a treasure in the community and I am hoping she finds a new location soon.

We happened to be in the area for an appointment at the Jeep dealership, and when I realized Makenna Coffee was nearby, there was NO WAY I was leaving without stopping. I couldn't remember what I had ordered the first time, so she helped me pick out two different drinks to try -- the Sandy Blonde and the Maui Latte. I ordered them half sweet, and they were still a little sweeter than I normally prefer, but honestly, they were amazing nonetheless. I'm usually a black coffee/Americano kind of girl, but every once in a while I get a serious sweet tooth and want something fun and indulgent -- and Makenna Coffee is PERFECT for that.
