I never leave reviews but today was one of the worst experience I ever had with Thao. I wanted a simple trim to cut off my dead ends and even out my layers. The entire experience felt super rushed and I walked out of the salon with choppy uneven layers, my front pieces (curtain bangs) were uneven, and her cutting off 3-4 inches when I requested 1 inch off. When she was cutting my curtain bangs, she didn't even bother to part my hair in the middle before cutting so of course my front pieces are lopsided. She curled my hair at the end to hide how choppy my hair was. I now have to book a hair appointment with another place to get it fixed. Genuinely so disappointing. read more

Really nice stylist Danny breezed through 3 haircuts within the hour. He was fast and efficient, and very personable. $47 (tip not included) for 1 adult and 2 kids, not bad at all! I was going to impulsively get my hair chopped off, but he talked me out of it since my hair was long and lush. He actually persuaded me to not get it cut. I appreciated the honesty, because he could've cut my hair and earn some money. If/when I decide to get it cut, I may have to drive all the way up to Westminster (and get my Cococane fix a few doors down). First and last time ever. I went in for a haircut today, the guy cut my hair dry (red flag). I casually asked him is this how you normally do it, he said " yeah I like to cut dry so I can see the layer better". I was like okay. Half way done, his client who came late for her appointment walked in and he wanted to see her so he rushed with my haircut. My hair is slightly wavy from the hair tie so I can't see the detail on the end, but I have a feeling that my hair was Not Even. I went home to straighten my hair out and I wanted to cry. One side is thicker than the other and uneven. Who the fuck does this kinda job? Charge me $100 I would happily pay for it if you are doing a good job. Same place same person. Quang who I asked for, again did a masterful work on my hair and I really appreciated it. A kind and very positive person, he took his time to do it. As expected, I liked having my beard shaved, and getting my hair washed before getting the gel for the finishing touch which was really refreshing. My sister meanwhile got the same thing because we decided to go in at the same time with my mom so we all both decided to get it done . And yes, I feel welcomed by bit only the staff but those that did my haircut. In conclusion, if you are looking for a good place to get it done, I totally recommend it. It is really good. So I was browsing through Yelp trying to find a salon to go to in Orange County since I'd be in the area. I've been going to the same salon in Redlands (where I live) for over 3 years, but decided to try out something new. I saw a few salons in the search listings, and Beauty Express caught my eye because I've been to a Beauty Express in Houston (my hometown) and remember having a good experience. I made an appointment with Loc. The first thing he did when I got to his station was assess my hair. I told him exactly what I wanted...a cute, modern cut and a toning down of my current color (which was orangey and too bright for my liking). He started explaining what hues & shades would compliment my asian skin tone, and what the other salon that I frequent (and salons in general) weren't doing correctly. I could immediately tell that he was highly knowledgeable and passionate about hair. I trusted his opinion and asked him to do what he thought would be good (color-wise). He assured me that he knew exactly what I wanted. After lifting my roots (which had grown out considerably), adding additional highlights, color correcting (from the previous salon's patchy job), toning, and cut & styling...my hair came out to be a beautiful, cool-ashy-brownish-blonde color...and looked totally hip. EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'm definitely going back to Loc in about 6 weeks to update my look again. I don't care that I live an hour away from OC. When you find a good stylist...one with experience and a modern take on styling...you stick with him!!! I'm so glad I found someone who understands my hair!!! So my advice...ask for Loc. I've been coming here for basic hair needs for a long time, however have never dyed my hair here, until recently. Danny dyed my hair and I am completely unhappy. Pissed, even. I came in with a picture, I wanted a dark mocha brown. He looked at the picture for 2 seconds and said ok. I knew he's been working here for a while so didn't question him. Ladies, DO NOT let Tony handle your hair. I walked in with long "mermaid" hair and walked out with really short "2009 emo girl" hair. I told this guy EXACTLY how I wanted him to cut my hair. I wanted a trim to get rid of all the dead ends while keeping the length. He suggested that I get layers because he thought it would look better and I took his word for it, since he's the hairstylist and everything. Then, in addition to what I had previously asked him to do, I asked for long layers as well. He showed me exactly how much of my hair he was going to cut off in order to get rid of the dead ends and I approved. Then he goes and cuts off TWICE THE AMOUNT HE SHOWED ME! I was in disbelief. My hair went from running past my lower back to barely running past my chest. WHAT PART OF "KEEP THE LENGTH" DID HE NOT UNDERSTAND?! And it wasn't like I could tell him to stop, especially since the damage was already done. So I had to sit in that chair and hold back my tears while he cut off more and more of my hair. By the end of it all, my hair was half the length it originally was. He also gave me short layers instead of the long ones I had asked for. When we finished, I told him that he cut my hair too short and he frantically tried explaining to me that it was because my hair was too "frizzy" and "damaged". The damaged part I understood, but was it THAT bad that he had to cut off HALF of my hair?! I rarely ever apply heat to my hair and I make sure to care of it as much as I can. He even had the audacity to give me a few of his business cards and asked me to recommend him to my friends, despite the disappointed and angry look that was clearly plastered all over my face. Needless to say, I didn't give him a tip. I threw a bitch fit to my mom in the car afterwards because she knew how much I loved my long hair. Every experience I had with getting my hair trimmed by someone else ended up being a nightmare. I don't even know why I came back today to get my hair trimmed. I might just end up learning how to cut my own hair so that I don't risk getting it messed up by someone else. God damnit. I hate being that guy but... this dude really effed up my hair. I just want to cry. I even gave it two weeks to see if I would like it more or become more comfortable. But my feelings have only worsen. The first time I went there it was wonderful (got my hair done by Mei). This second experience was hell. He did a great job at helping me pick out the hair color that would fit my complexion best. I actually love the color. It was a dark brownish with a light red tone. BUT he effed up when he kept cutting my damn hair. He just kept trimming and trimming and trimming. My dumbass had my head stuck in between the magazines he gave me. I wish I would have looked up and told his ass to stop cutting because he nearly cut off 5 inches and I had no idea. I just trusted him to do a great job like Mei did. I mean I told him that all I wanted was a TRIM! Doesn't a trim mean short cut like 1 or 2 inches? I mean when Mei cut my hair last time she understood exactly what I wanted. And the fucking layers came out all uneven. I mean dude just kept cutting and cutting and throwing his flamboyant hands up and cutting. So I thought he knew what he was doing. I don't know if its cuz the hair dye he used or if he even gave me an oil treatment. I feel very bad that I have to write such a bad review about this place but I am really not happy with this one experience and will have to be honest, I do recommend this place because there can be some great hair stylist there but I guess my only advice is: when trying out a new hair stylist, keep your damn head up and out of those Vouge and People magazines and WATCH before he cuts off your last year of hair growing. Although I moved away and only see him once a year, he remembers me and always asks about my family and how we are doing. He always ask if I am going somewhere special afterwards because he will do something special to it if I need to look extra nice, such as going to a wedding, he would style my hair at no extra charge (only because I have been a client for so long I do recieve some perks) What I love is when I say keep my hair as long as possible, he does that, I have been to a few where I say I want a trim and they cut off 4 inches!!! He is very attentive and super friendly and silly. And I swear he hasnt aged one bit, he still looks super trendy and handsome!!! The price is 18 for a long layered hair look... pretty normal price. When I walked in, I was told it would be a 10 min wait, but she kept saying it would be just a few more minutes until 40 minutes had passed and I was still waiting... I would say try to schedule an appointment, but it seems as though others have had problems with wait time despite scheduling an appointment. In my 10 years experience with this business, very rarely have I walked out happy (less than a handful of times). For $25-$35 a cut, they do a decent job with women's haircuts, especially for straight, thick Asian hair like mine. Despite going to them for 10 years (I get my haircut once a year), they do not have the courtesy to ask how I like my haircut. I requested the same hairdresser who cut my hair well last year and told them I wanted the same cut. They only asked how short I want the cut, then proceeded to cut without clarifying that I wanted long layers, thinned out hair, and chin length bangs. I walked out unhappy with uneven, choppy layers, hair still very thick, and bangs not at the right length. I am perplexed at how they think they know what I want without even asking. The most frustrating part is I made an appointment specifically so that they could spend the time needed to do a good cut. But my haircut was very rushed (they painfully pulled on my hair and finished in under 40 minutes) as they had other clients waiting. I came in 10 minutes before my appointment and they were barely cutting a client before me. My advice going to any Asian hairdresser is to be assertive and specific with your requests right off the bat. They like to think they know what you want but they don't, even if you've been with them for a long time. I've patronized this business for 10 years but given the rushed, unfinished job, this will be my last visit. I have been going here for over a 15 years. Danny (Duy) has been my stylist since I was in Junior High School. He did my hair for my wedding and now cuts my kids hair too. You can get a haircut, style and shampoo for under 20 and tack on color for under 50 (for short shoulder length hair.) He's very nice and soft spoken. He layers my hair with scissors not the blade. And my hair is incredibly thick so he thins it out to make it much more managagle. I have taken my friends and family who come to visit here to get their hair done. Its not a fancy (overpriced) place. You may have hair on the floor from a previous client but it is reasonably priced and I know what to expect. read more

I wanted Loc because Yelp reviewers said that he's really good, but last Sunday when I visited, he was too busy so I got Maggie. To be honest, I didn't expect much from her. I told her that I wanted a short haircut but one that doesn't make my chubby face look bigger and she asked, "How short?" She then proceeded by showing me some pictures. That was frustrating because I came in hoping that I would get a firm opinion of a hairstylist instead of having to make my own judgment. All I knew was that I wanted it short. Regarding the styles, I had no clue. At first, she gave me a cut of the length right above my shoulder, and I told her that I wanted it shorter, parallel to my chin, so she started the whole process all over again - another 15-20 layering my hair.
