Pollo Laredo salad with pumpkin seeds instead of tortilla chips.
Dene M.

My friend chose this establishment for an early birthday celebratory Iunch. We arrived right around 11am on a Wednesday and the line was decent. Here's my thoughts: 1) Service time: they work in an assembly line set up and have a small menu. This led to them being effective. (9/10) 2) Food: I wanted to try the steak salad so badly but they were out of steak and apparently wouldn't have any for the next couple of weeks. Sooo disappointed. I ended up having the Pollo Laredo salad and substituted the tortilla topping for pumpkin seeds. I asked for it to be heavily dressed with their jalapeno ranch. I added a scoop of feta cheese. MANNNNN their ingredients are fresh and so tasty. I enjoyed their guacamole, and overall options. I do low carb and there are ample options for everyone. My only critique points are: (a) They need a spice option. Fresh chopped jalapeños or serranos would elevate this salad to another level. (b) I got a lot of lettuce ends and just wished I could have the leaves not the stems but I understand. Maybe having an option for lettuce leaves and charging a little more would be okay. (c) I wish they would give a little more chicken. It was $35/ two salads and 1 can diet coke. I would go here again because of the freshness of the items and their house made dressings.

Solid taste for a "fast food" business in the hustle & bustle of the downtown tunnels, and even though the flavor started out great, it didn't end as well. Good taste for a protein bowl, but a bit too pricey for the flavor. Farros on the other end of the tunnels totally blows these guys out of the tunnels!

Soooo summer snuck up on me and so did about 7 lbs In an effort to have a quick snap back by Memorial Weekend I have been eating nothing but healthy food all week. Options for takeout have been limited while on my diet, but Leaf & Grain definitely checked all the boxes for a guilt free, low carb, low calorie, high quality, satisfying lunch. This was my first time trying L&G. I studied the menu online first to prepare so I wouldn't feel intimidated and overwhelmed once I got in that long line. I typically pass by this place when I walk the tunnel and wonder why so many people would want to eat expensive bird food that doesn't smell too appetizing. Today -- I have discovered why! I opted for the m*tha f*kn veggie boost 2.0. Not sure if that's what the MF stands for but that mf was good! Only downside is the price. Be aware that a little extra can add on to the already high base price pretty quickly. I had to pay $1 extra for spinach and quinoa. Anyway, no biggie. Just worth mentioning. I got extra chipotle jalapeño dressing on the side to combine with the avocado lime dressing and it really added to the flavor. I also appreciated the delicious tiny slice of sourdough bread that came with it. Even with the bite of bread, I'll be hungry again in a couple hours. Sucks when you've just spent $12 on food but I know eating leaves and grains will have you summer fine in no time! Worth every dollar when you forget to meal prep.

I had heard great things about the cafe at this new location, and had even tried their former location on Hillcroft a couple years ago as part of TooGoodToGo. While the concept is casual, the restaurant itself is very polished and feels like an upscale cafe. There is plenty of seating indoors as well as a huge patio outdoors. We opted to sit on the patio on a (rare) nice Houston day. The tables were spacious and the patio seating was very comfortable. We ordered the Kofta Kabob and Chicken Kabob specialty platters. These platters come with your choice of two sides - we went for the Fried Cauliflower, Tabouli Salad, Hummus, and Muhammara. The meats were so good and hit the spot. The Kofta Kabob had a complexity of flavor to it; so many spices that blended together really well. I will say that the post-meal burps of these spices were...smellier than usual. The Chicken Kabob was also flavorful and had a nice smokiness to it from the grill. I liked the slight crunch provided by the char along the edges. If I knew how to make chicken like this, it would be my daily meal prep! The Fried Cauliflower had a nice sear to it with lots of flavor. The Tabouli Salad and Hummus were comparable to those I've had at other Mediterranean places. The Muhammara was my favorite of the sides! It is a dip like hummus but also incorporates tomatoes, red bell peppers, and onions, among other spices; there was so much flavor to it and I could snack on this all day. The included pita bread was large, fluffy, and piping hot - perfect for dipping between the two side dips we got. Service was quick and friendly. The employee taking our order behind the counter was friendly and gave us the recommendation for the Muhammara - great rec. When our food was brought out and we had questions on some of the ingredients, the staff was very knowledgeable and knew right away what everything was.

Even though there with many people there, there was plenty of seating and a nice sized patio we should have sat and enjoyed the cool breeze as it's on the East side of the restaurant.
