Sunday night my wife didn't feel like cooking so we went here. Entering the place was clean with lots of window views. We were promptly served drinks and a waitress came by and asked if we needed more time to figure out what we wanted. We said yes. After a few minutes she came back and took our order. We ordered an appetizer and two meals. The appetizers must have been done with the Star Trek hydrator, it came out that fast. The appetizer was good but before we could finish putting some of it on our plates the two dinners came out. I fully believe that they have Star Trek equipment in the kitchen. They are that fast. Food quality and quantity were both good. Presentation was also good. Prices seemed reasonable. A fair amount of customers came in and others weee leaving. You could tell by the dress and mannerism's in that they were locals. Noise level (which for us is a deal breaker) was not loud. So let's recap: clean bright atmosphere with views of the outside, good food, which was made and came out by some sort of futuristic equipment, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff. So what do I think. Give me a minute to process all this . . . . . OK, we will go back. Certainly not fine dining but if you want good food in a good atmosphere go here. read more

So delicious prices are easy on the pocketbook. I had a Ruben and some sweet potato fries. Don't know if I was just starving or not, but I do believe it was one off the best Ive ever eaten! Service was efficient and friendly, hightly recommended. read more

We get Plato's all the time. The service is always quick, we usually order carry out, but if we dine in the service is quick then too. It's usually pretty packed in there, so definitely busy. I typically order a Greek salad with chicken. Only issue is the chicken is usually hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes old like it's been sitting in a fridge reused. I prefer it when it comes warm like they actually just cooked it, or at least heated it up. I've stopped getting chicken for that reason, since it's so inconsistent. They do have some of the best Greek dressing though in the area. read more

Came with family about 45 minutes before close. The girl who sat us was incredibly rude. She said your server will be with you when she can. Note-there was 2 tables in the restaurant. Our server was nice. The food was cheap. It wasn't good though. My egg sandwich had egg shells in it. When we left- still at least 10 minutes before close, they had locked us in. That's illegal fyi as it's a fire hazard. A guest with us asked to place a carry out order 15 minutes before close, they told us the kitchen was closed. Maybe change the hours if you want to close early. read more

Since my daughter moved to Garden City, this has become one of our favorite go to places. The food is good. I usually order a baby Greek salad with chicken and chili fries. And my daughter ordered breaded chicken pita, so good. She loves their chocolate shakes. So, yummy. My husband usually does a burger, sometimes with an egg on it. Not my cup of tea, but it looks great. The service is quick and friendly and very willing to please. It must be a good place to work, because it seems to maintain employees, not a revolving door. The overall experience is one of casual dining with a couple tv's, making guests feel welcome. They also have cold beer, wine, and mimosas for the real fun people. I am not that fun. I recommend others be fun and enjoy. read more

I grew up in Garden City, but haven't lived in the area for about 35 years. I used to go to Plato's when I was in my teens and the original location was just off of the corner of Ford and Middlebelt. It didn't move far from there and I don't know what year the original location closed, but I'm glad to see it carried. The fresh cut fries and chili are what have me making an hours drive sometimes just to catch lunch there. Of course I wish the original location still existed for nostalgia, but I'm glad to say the food remained the same. read more

Great food, really great service and super kind people. The seats where comfortable and the restaurant was very cleen. My brother loved the meat lover omelet and rye toast and he would recommend it. I got the kids chicken nuggets and it was awesome I would definitely recommend it to kids. My mother got the mushroom and Swiss omelet and she would also recommend it. read more

Don't eat here! Very dirty. Waitress tried to bring me my food with the bottom of a dirty plate laying on it. When i asked them to remake it. The waitress said well we wipe our counters so its clean. She then took the omelette and they threw the same omelette back on grill for 2 mins and tried to bring it back to me all burnt. I told her that i was not buying that and take the omelette off my bill. Never even got a apology. When i went to pay they wouldn't ask me how my meal was. I said "your not going to ask me how my meal was" she replied very snotty "we heard" and nothing else. Then the waitress comes over to confront me with other waitresses and ask is there a problem making a scene in the restaurant. Some how not understanding putting a dirty plate on overpriced food was the problem. As i was walking out the waitress started yelling have the day you deserve like i was in the wrong. First time visiting Plato's place corny Island was just happens to be less than a mile from my home. I never really had the occasion before because there's about four coney islands around me. They are tucked away in a small center on the north side of Ford. They offer over a dozen types of omelettes & Hash Brown's to burgers & fries, full dinner entrees, something for everyone. The service is excellent, pleasant and prompt. Food was exceptionally good and, personally a little too much for me! Purses are more than reasonable and definitely someplace you should put it on your bucket list for like sometime in the near future. This one's a keeper don't miss it! read more

The food is very good or this would be a one star review. On two successive nights, the staff at Plato's Place locked the doors well ahead (15-20 minutes) of the posted closing time. The first evening this prevented us from entering the restaurant. The second night, we got in before they locked up, but it was very apparent that the staff was rushing us to finish our meal. E.g., we asked for ice cream but were told they were out of both vanilla and chocolate ice cream. This seems very improbable. Closing times are when the resistant may stop accepting new customers for the day. The restaurant and its staff, however, should allow current customers to finish their meals unimpeded. If this is problematic, the restaurant should adjust its closing time. read more

When you're in the mood for breakfast for dinner Plato's is the place. They serve breakfast all day and have tons of great options for breakfast including your traditional local Detroit Coney Island fair, but add steak and eggs and corned beef hash to the list of choices. For healthier options, you can substitute fruit cocktail, applesauce or tomato slices instead of hash browns. The service is good, with servers constantly checking in you throughout your meal. Food comes up in a hurry and is hot and fresh. The also have a pretty good lunch and dinner menu complete with daily specials. The chicken lemon rice soup is some of the best in town. One of my favorites are the fresh cut spiral curly fries. Yum! read more

The decline of this restaurant is outpacing the decline of garden city. If you are ordering carry out don't bother unless you want to wait twice as long or better. I'm not sure how everything is burnt and cold at the same time but it is. I watched one waitress spraying 409 all over the place then my side order of biscuits and gravy came with with a healthy dose of 409 and surprisingly it improved the taste. Then with a healthy shake of all containers you will be on your. If you still insist on ordering carry out just don't pay before you get your order so you can walk out without your order, witch you will do. A horrible horrible place to eat! Decided to stop by here for a bite since I always pass it but never tried it. Maybe because it was in a strip mall setting and thats usually not what Im looking for. But I have tried some wonderful food in strip malls that I frequent. So what the heck, my cousin and I decide to give it a try. Usually I order my favorite dishes when I go to a place but I wanted a mix of stuff here for a change. She ordered the Chicken stir fry that came with a seasoned rice and a piece of grilled pita bread and teriyaki sauce on the side. And also an order of fried Cauliflower. I ordered a Patty Melt, a cup of Chicken Lemon Rice soup and an order of Chili cheese fries. The service was friendly and fast. The menu had a lot of variety for different tastes. Prices and portions were good. The food was very good and came out nice and hot. I definitely will be back and try something else. read more

Plato's is a family owned, local staple restaurant. Although some consider it a Coney Island, it is so much more. Of course the chili is fantastic and the hot dogs are beef franks. Plato's also serves beer, which is not usual for a restaurant of this type in the U.S.A. If you are in Garden City for a visit, you have to go to Plato's! It is the best! Our very first visit they celebrate 50 years Wows how cool a classic Greek diner. Saturday brunch we do it right started with Chili Special that has scoop of Loose Burger in middle. A Chili Cheese Omelet and the Famous Chicken Greek Salad with outrageous flavorful Greek Dressing a must try. I order a Xtra Meat Corned Beef Ruben outstanding filled the belly with Love. A very unique dish Scotty's Hash brown's OMG this cook invented and working today didn't get to Thank maybe next time. Fresh Taters boiled n Shredded thrown on the flattop topped with Coney Chili, Loose Burger, Onions n Cheese then 2 Eggs outstanding delicious me n daughter shared. I just Love a creative cook. Staff are very rude. Starting off with a phone call and had the lady repeat everything several times, yelled for something then randomly said "hold on" and put me on hold. Picked up the phone again to repeat everything again but this time in a scatter. I walked in with no greeting whatsoever. The lady at the counter busy writing things on a paper after I said hello she never responded. She looked up and asked me what I needed and I said a carry out. She asked for my money which I gave her, signed my receipt and left my cash tip. I didn't think to check if my $8 baby salad was correct how I ordered it until I get home to find everything I asked for there not to be, it was on it. No tomato, no onion and I received both of them on there. I cannot eat raw onion, or the tomato juice and seed residue on my salad. I am extremely disappointed after I told the lady at least 4 times when she repeated my order every time. $10 plato's place visit and I should've paid $0 for what I was treated and the food I received which I couldn't eat. read more

This is a great place for anytime of day. Speedy service My daughter had to have the fried pickles. They were actually very tasty. They came out piping hot and had a perfect breading. The lemon chicken rice soup was a bit salty bit still very good. The Greek salad and gyro were also great. Portions are large and prices very reasonable. It is a very clean restaurant. I've been going here for over twenty years, how have I not reviewed it??? I'm not a huge Coney Island fan but Platos is different. Their food is really good, their Greek dressing is amazing, so a chicken Greek salad is my go to. Breakfast is great, and cheap. Plato's is personally my favorite Coney Island in the Metro Detroit area. The staff is extremely nice and attentive. And if you visit the place a lot, they begin to treat you like family. The chicken lemon rice soup is unreal. I've gone there on several occasions solely for a cup of goodness. The chicken gyro is delicious, like the reviewer that posted below me. They seem to have a very unique tzatziki sauce that isn't overpowering at all. Also, the grilled and baked chicken sandwiches are HUGE. Plato's also makes a mean breakfast. Try the breakfast wrap (bacon, hashbrows, eggs, onion, green pepper and wrapped in a pita). Great prices, awesome food. read more

Plato's Place is a traditional coney island in Garden City. Really one of our favorites to go to. They have chili that I would put up against any of the big name coney islands. Their Gyros, specifically the chicken gyro with their house made tzatziki sauce is one of our favorites. Their greaak salads are pretty standard, but they make a nice greek dressing, and a little inside tip, you can get your salad chopped and mixed if you ask for it. They have a very friendly and attentive staff. They make a point to get to know people and really treat people like family. Highly recommended for a good on a budget coney island. read more
