This Gaithersburg location of Ledo Pizza is only getting 2 stars from me because I've been here previously and didn't have a horrible experience. However, what I experienced today was so unacceptable to me that I would give them only 1 star if I had never been there before. The order was called in a 2:15pm and I arrived and paid for the food at 2:42pm (they estimated 15-20 minutes on the phone). Since I arrived after the time window they gave me, I thought for sure the food would be waiting for me. The kid who took my payment looked around and I figured since he didn't bring me the food right away that the food was not ready. Keep in mind, the place is completely dead at this hour. The kid leaves the cash register and went back about 10 minutes later, but didn't even acknowledge me. Since he looked in the general direction of the kitchen, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that the food was not ready. Another 5 minutes passed and still NOTHING! I had to go look for him and ask him to check on my food. He goes to the same spot where he originally looked and got the food. THE FOOD HAD BEEN SITTING THERE THIS ENTIRE TIME AND IT WAS BARELY WARM. He only uttered a half sincere apology after I called him out. I reported this to the manager who reacted pretty much the same way he did and offered to remake the food. I was not about to wait even longer and risk having god knows what done to my food, so I declined. I told a friend the story and he said his mom got a free gift certificate when they left out an item one time. I would say I should have gotten compensated since an entire order of cold food seems much worse than a left out item... but unless they offered it to me without me asking, its not sincere from their end, so it wouldn't have meant that much anyway. BUT, in retrospect, I still should have asked for my money back. Am I making too big a deal out of this? Probably. But if you're going to hire high school kids to work at your store, you have to keep better tabs on them. Last time I checked, the economy is still struggling and I could be spending my dollars at a place that actually appreciates my business and treats me as such. read more

Good food, bad service. I love the Ledos brand. But lunch on this day featured a lot of waiting to even be acknowledged. Finally, the guy who mans the takeout section came over and took our order. He did not say he was not the waiter so when we needed more stuff we kept wondering why he was not manning our table and kept staying in one spot. Food came shortly after he took the order, delivered by a different person who was also not the first guy but not our waiter. But our drinks were greatly delayed. Like our meal was nearly over. Then we had a waitress and the catering manager come over and apologize and try to make us feel better, but we had already eaten, etc. They need to do better. The catering manager gave a different excuse as to our delayed drinks than the waitress. ?!?!?! The place is also nearly new but starting to look dirty. Table was grimey, etc. We just didn't feel good about this visit. The parking lot in t his plaza is just a zoo. Not a good place to try to get around. Avoid. Especially at busy times. read more

I really wanted to give lower than 2 stars but am bending over backwards to find redeeming qualities. I believe the lively Yelp debate about whether this place is pretty good or pretty bad comes down to one reason: price. Rock-bottom prices tend to mitigate almost any flaw except salmonella. They mitigate mediocre food, terrible service, long waits and lots of other things. This place is always packed with large groups getting special coupon or promotional deals on pizza. I imagine the deal on top of the already low prices is what keeps them coming back. I strongly disagree with the comments on here that imply their pizza is pretty good. The pizza is bad to terrible and ALWAYS gives me shall we say intestinal distress about 2 hours after eating it. The sauce tastes -- exactly like it's come out of a giant can that's probably sat around open and unrefrigerated all day. The cheese is pretty hit or miss, and there's frequently not enough of it. [I'm getting heartburn just thinking about my Ledo Pizza experiences]. Even though I've only been to this restaurant about 4 times, each and every time has involved an ungodly wait time (yes even for a to-go Calzone) for 45 minutes or more. So I've spent this approximately 3 wasted hours of my life watching the operation of this place like a hawk, especially what goes on in the back. [I am about to get very Restaurant Stakeout - please bear with me] There is a total lack of management or structure. The place is overstaffed, with up to 10 teenagers/college students running around, and yet they get remarkably little done. The reason is... there's no leader. So we have people standing around and chatting, texting, flirting, and god knows what else. The 2-3 employees who actually care basically do everything. Since there's no actual cook or chef that I've ever seen, you have people fumbling around back there. It's probably why they can churn out consistently mediocre pizza and fries, but take an hour to figure out how to make a Calzone or other seldom-ordered items. The wait staff probably don't care because they have to pool and split their tips a million ways. Now I understand in this particular location people are extremely cheap (see my section on rock bottom pricing) and I'm sure the wait staff get stiffed often. But it leads to a problem where their bad service then legitimately deserves a bad tip which then kind of deteriorates from there. I will say that a weekday lunch at a busy time seems to draw out FAR more professional servers, but evenings, especially later at night are a disaster. There's also so little communication it's practically negative. Again speaks to a total lack of training and management/leadership. Orders come out piecemeal because someone has forgotten to make something altogether. It's probably why larger parties experience those absurd waits. And here's a little experience I think is pretty typical. I am waiting for my food and quite bored, so I decide to order a beer while I wait and watch the idiots operate in the kitchen. The cashier rings me up, ID's me, takes my money, and then walks away to answer the phone or futz around in the kitchen. The dude working at the beer taps pours a couple beers for tables in the dining room and then kind of ambles off to text on his cell phone. Five minutes later and still no beer. Finally I wave him over and say I've ordered a beer and never got it. He flags down the cashier who's like 'yes give him the beer, WTF have you been doing all this time?' For a restaurant developing a reputation for long waits and poor service, having 3, 4, or even 5 people standing around doing nothing or texting is completely unacceptable. I think they've gone the route of hiring lots of minimum wage staff instead of a few good employees. They need an actual pizza chef and a manager who isn't teenage buddies with everyone else. We went on a recent Sunday afternoon. When we arrived it wasn't crowded, but it took forever for the staff to assist us. They forgot our appetizer, which is automatically a one star loss in my book. About 20 minutes into sitting down, a party of like 8 (mid-life adults) came in and took up most of the dining room. There was a Redskins game on TV and they complained that the sound on the televisions were low and that closed captioning was on. So the managers turned up the televisions, but turned them up so loud that everyone else had to yell over the sound of the TVs. Finally someone else complained that the TVs were too loud so they turned them back down to a reasonable level. read more

Although not GREAT, Ledo's is somewhere I'm happy to go for a quick weeknight dinner. The restaurant is family friendly and food is fairly consistent. The menu seems to have changed slightly since the new owner took over. They used to have this Travilah-only hot Keifer Sub with turkey and bacon but I don't see it on the menu anymore. Other dishes that I like: -Spicy Toasted Ravioli Appetizer - fried jalepeno cheese filled raviolis -Wings - they're actually pretty good..much better than many other wing places I've tried Hot Grilled Chicken Salad - good but I wished they use something other than iceberg lettuce read more

I don't think I've ever waited for a seat here. Food is reasonably priced and good, too. Personally, I like their pizza more than most other places I've had in my life. It's quaint in size and has a small family atmosphere to it. The only thing is that parking is horrendous. If there are people there, good luck. Some parking spots are super tiny and just inconvenient. Other than that, I have no complaints! read more

I will not be. Back I saw the most unprofessional thing between managers . Manager were very rude to the cashier who helped me which is a manager as well. The manager told him to get off his headphones which did not bother me at all. The manager complained to him about Italian salad that it usually cost more . I sat at. A booth about to take a bite the manager who was being rude to the other manager came and said these are for patrons who is dining in only and he should have asked you if you are dinning in or not which he didn't . The other manager said why do you have to do this in front of customers why you couldn't bring me to the side about my headphones and other things? He is right , this situation made me very uncomfortable how the manager treated him because he's nice guy and how the manager came to me about me sitting down taking a quick bite . We have enjoyed the pizza and service at this location. Yesterday - a slow day at the stotre -- was disappointing in both regards. The dough was so different and the toppings skimpy and the pizza -- both -- were flavorless. And, the order wasn't right. The service was poor. Honestly the best pizza in the area, I really wish they would deliver! Partially crisp, partially soft crust, great sweet marinara, and the toppings are plentiful and delicious. Pepperoni is thick and awesome. But the crispy bacon is what really shines. They put so much on and it is honestly amazing. I usually get bacon and mushroom or bacon and bbq chicken. The toasted ravioli appetizer is also amazing and the portions are huge and prices are cheap. Try it out, you wont be disappointed! read more

Great local pizza place with strong community ties. I love that they donate to local schools and when I was an election judge, they donated pizzas to the pollworkers who are unable to leave the polling place. They also employ supervised developmentally challenged employees to assemble the utencil packets. Square pizzas (they don't cut corners!) on a tray with the sweet marinara sauce are excellent. I am also a big fan of the salads. The all-you-can-eat soup/salad/breadstick combo is a good value, though one serving is all I ever can eat. I have never had a bad meal. read more

I never actually dined in at this Ledo's but I have had takeout. Ledo's is the closest thing I've tried in the area to NY pizza. It's pretty tasty and they have a pretty good choice of toppings. My problem with Ledo's is that it is a bit pricey. I'm a fan of Papa Johns and although it isn't as good as Ledo's you get more for the money there. Sometimes it comes down to that. To summarize I love the pizza, I just don't like what you have to pay for it. read more

They made a mistake in the order but they "made good" on it by giving me a gift certificate for my next visit (without my asking) so that was a pretty good move. I grew up with the original Ledo's in Adelphi. The franchised Ledo's are not the same. But, still, the pizza is decent ... but only if you get extra cheese on it. They just don't put enough cheese on the "regular" pizza. My complaint is their steak and cheese sub. They used to have an awesome S&C sub. But, a couple of years ago, it really went downhill. (Maybe it was the change in ownership?) Not sure what the problem is but I guess all I can say is that the sandwich is "wet" (soggy). It used to be a nice, heated roll and assembled just right. Now, it's not much different from a Jerry's Sub Shop S&C. read more

Great pizza, but horrible customer service. When I placed an order online, a pop up window told me to call the store to verify my "large" order. I waited about 10 minutes and then called as directed. The man I spoke to on the phone couldn't understand why I was calling despite my explanation and was terribly rude and condescending. Love it here! I've been coming here for over 10 years now because I love their pizza and spicy ravioli. The setting itself was a little dreary before, but they renovated the inside a couple of years ago (and the shopping center itself has just finished undergoing renovations) and it looks great now! The food itself is always good - I've had a couple of instances of misorders, but never improperly prepared food and the staff were always quick to fix any problems with orders. Also, for those that celebrate Passover, they have THE BEST passover pizza that literally tastes just like regular pizza. read more

Ledo's pizza is fresh and delicious. The company motto is that it never cuts corners. It applies not only to the shape of the pizza but the ingredients and preparation. My colleagues and I had lunch at this location yesterday. I would have given it five stars if only the check would have arrived in time. Lunch hours are delicate for most people as time is very limited. My belief is the check can never be too early at lunch because of limited time and the potential that it will need to be split. I used to work at this Ledo's in high school. But I don't think my high marks are biased. If anything, I'd be even more critical. FYI, this review is just for the food, not for the service or anything else, since I've only gotten take out from here the last couple of years. The pizza is greasy, but ohhhhh sooooooo gooooood. Even though I live in Chicago now, where I can get as much deep dish as I want, I still crave the thin crust from Ledo's. The sauce is sweet and yummy and I love dipping their breadsticks in plenty of the garlic butter and sauce! I think they still get a lot of high school students to man the takeout counter. Not the brightest bunch. Either that or they just don't care since they don't get tipped. Whenever I order a pizza with different toppings on each half of the pizza, they usually get the order wrong. But they're really good about making another pizza for you really quick and giving you the other one free! I've been to the one on River Rd and the one by Montgomery mall. For some reason I think the food at the Travilah location turns out better. Man, just writing this review makes me salivate for some Ledo's pizza! read more

"Never again." That's what my friend and I swore after our last encounter at Ledo's... It was a Friday at around 5:30pm, so I expected a pizza joint to be somewhat busy. I went into Ledo's with a friend and we decided to order a pizza and wings for carryout. Everything seemed fine -- we paid our money and the guy said it would take about 30-45mins. We left and came back about 45 mins later. There was a line that went outside the door. I thought well we already ordered so we can just pick it up, right? Wrong. The line was for people picking up! So we waited... and waited... About an hour later we finally got our pizza -- but not our wings. I asked the guy about it and he started asking the people in the kitchen. They obviously couldn't find it and I heard him saying just make another order of wings. Great...we had to wait another 20mins for the wings. Funny thing was, when we got back to eat them, the pizza was cold (understandably) but the wings were even colder! I suspect they either found the missing order or wings or they didn't cook/heat the new batch long enough. Ugh. So here we are at my friend's place, past 8 o'clock (mind you we ordered at 5:30!), eating $30 of cold pizza and even colder wings -- both of which were bland. We threw most of it away and vowed, "never again". read more

The pizza here is fine; it's the service that is lousy. For a party of 8-10, we ordered two large pizzas-the wait edged on 45 minutes. A family next to us who had been waiting for a similarly long time was getting up to walk out (they only ordered 1 pizza and still had to wait 45 minutes!) and only stayed because at that moment the server was walking over, pizza in hand. After our long wait, we were informed that because they were so busy there were not any more clean plates in the place. Being extremely hungry, we found it hard to care at the time and just used our napkins. But no plates? Really? I think it's probably a better bet to call ahead and just take the food to go. I feel bad for the waiters who have to deal with frustrated customers so often who have to wait WAY too long for their food. read more

His name is "Magic Max" and what he does is come up to your table and preform really LAME magic tricks that my 3-year-old daughter who is missing several chromosomes can do. We have been long time diners on Ledo pizza. It is unique - in my view the thin light crust sets it apart. However, the past few times we have had it, it has disappointed. Last nights medium pizza was the biggest disappointment. We wish we had pulled one of the frozen pizzas out of our freezer instead of picking up the pizza, The dough was spongy, so that it overwhelmed the pie. We ate 2/3s of the pizza when we both realized that it was heavy in our stomach, and tasteless. We threw the remaining pieces out. Not sure we will try again. read more
