There is no table service. When you enter grab a menu and seat yourself. They will bring water to your table. After you decide on what you want to order, head to the bar and the bar attendant will take your order. The first time I visited the restaurant I was thoroughly confused and stood at the hostess table for a few minutes until I figured out how things work. No one was coming to seat me. The food is perfect for something quick and easy. Some of the dishes could use more flavor. I don't enjoy flavorless food that I would need to add table salt, black pepper, and/or ketchup to make up for what it's lacking. FIVE-STAR FOOD MEETS THREE-STAR SERVICE! Now, before I begin, I'd like to say that I wholeheartedly wish I gave this restaurant five-stars on Yelp as this was one of the most phenomenal brunch-time meals I've EVER had. However, Yelp wants us to include ambiance in the overall rating, so here we go. My arrival at Leeland House started off awkwardly. I'd never been there before, yet they assume customers should just seat themselves without displaying a sign at the front stating "please seat yourself". Thankfully, someone on the staff team finally let me know. Additionally, once you're seated you have to order at the bar? No waiting service, it's all very confusing. Maybe I should've just sat at the bar then? Overall, no one was very attentive and the hospitality seemed manufactured. Locals seem to be the target audience at this restaurant as those were the only folks who got decent customer service. Thankfully, my meal was OMEGA LEVEL good! I ordered a sweet potato hash. The meal comes with a poached egg, sweet potato, spinach, tomato hite cheddar, avocado smash, and house aioli. Typically, I wouldn't get a veggie-centric hash, however this one stood out to me because of the sweet potato. Oh boy, it stands out for life now! The meal was served slightly cold, so it felt like I was eating a salad. Yet, the flavors packed a serious punch. The aioli was superb, the sweet potato was perfectly cooked, and the hite cheddar added a unique balance. I wish I had a dish like this back home in California! The restaurant has a singular restroom (one for men and one for women) towards the back. Outdoor seating is provided with shade at the front of the restaurant. The bar is large and has plenty of stools. My booth was comfortable, there seemed to be many tables with comfy seats for large parties. I was excited to try Leeland House again after enjoying the Houston location in the past, but this visit was disappointing overall. It's counter-service only, and we were told an automatic gratuity would be added because our group had six people. Food came out at different times, and most of it was underwhelming--the biscuits were dry, the jelly was oddly crunchy, and the French toast didn't compare to what I remembered. The brisket hash was the clear standout and the only reason this isn't a lower rating. Service was also confusing and poorly handled. One of our brisket hash orders was missing, and when we asked about it, staff insisted we had only ordered one despite counting our group and charging gratuity for six. We ended up paying for the "extra" dish anyway and were then asked to leave an additional tip, which felt unnecessary given the situation. Overall, the experience felt disorganized with mediocre food outside of the brisket hash. I'd only consider returning if options on the island are limited. read more

I ordered a Long Island(not pictured) but wow was it strong and for $16 I'd hope so. The vibe was very nice and establishment very clean. New hidden gem in Galveston!! Came to Leeland House tonight with a large party of about 25, and the staff was extremely accommodating and made the experience smooth despite the group size. We ordered our food and drinks at the bar, and everything moved efficiently. I ordered the seafood pasta, steak with risotto, and truffle fries, and every dish hit the spot. The seafood pasta was flavorful and fresh. The steak and risotto was amazing -- the mushrooms complemented the risotto perfectly and really elevated the dish. The truffle fries were a great side and tied everything together nicely. The staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the night. Came here two years ago and it was absolutely amazing. However, after coming back after two years, the food was honestly disappointing and severely lacking. The fried cauliflower was delicious! Great for sharing and still tastes as great as it used to. The rest of the food, however, was just lacking in flavor. The sweet potato bowl had huge chunks of unripe tomatoes and the cheese wasn't melted. I had to use copious amounts of salt and chalula just to eat half of it before giving up. The ambiance itself is loud and uninviting. What used to be a charming brunch spot is now almost like a morning club. The music is very loud so that everyone has to raise their voices. No comment on the service since you have to go up and order yourself (which is completely fine). It was disappointing to say the least. You can grab a menu and seat yourself. When you're ready to order, you walk up to the bar to put in your order. Don't forget to take note of your table number to let them know where you're sitting. We ordered the honey chicken biscuit, brisket hash, and eggs benedict. The brisket hash dish was rich and filling. It had a good amount of meat and was flavorful. The honey chicken biscuit was also nice. The biscuit was moist and the chicken was fried perfectly. We didn't like that the syrup ran into the fried potatoes though. The star dish was the eggs benedict.The perfectly poached eggs were plated on top of big pieces of ham that sat on top of avocado toasts. They have a variety of drinks as well. I opted for a banana cold foam matcha and it was so good. I personally wasn't too fond of the coffee drinks that I got to sample from my family members. Leeland house is a chic and welcoming place nestled in the neighborhood. Everyone was friendly and welcoming upon our entry and the decor was crisp and inviting. They have an open seating and bar ordering system which some people balk at but, it was easy and more efficient than waiting for someone to come take your order. Our family of six was easily accommodated and instantly serviced with drinks. We ordered a variety of dishes and everyone left completely clean plates which anyone with kids knows is a miracle alone! The gravy for the biscuits and gravy is one of the most unique and tasty ones I have had with its andouille sausage twist. Be sure to add brisket for the true chef's kiss experience. There's plenty of free parking out on the street and the location is very close to a lot of nice places on the west side of the strand. We came in to get a quick bite to eat before going to our Red Light District tour and the staff was friendly and quick to have our food out. When you come in, it does feel like a nicer spot but with casual feels! As for the food, I will say that the pizza was very delicious! Crunchy on the outside with fresh ingredients! I think this place could have been 4 or even pushing 5 stars but I just did not like the service model. We went during brunch on Sunday, around 10:30 am. There is a sign at the front that says it's open seating, grab a table. Not ideal during a brunch rush, but we scoped out the tables and found one that would work for us with a high chair. Then, a manager came to greet us and talk to us about table we could take, which was confusing. Either have a host or don't, but don't have an awkward middle ground. We were able to sit pretty quickly which was great. But, they only have 2 highchairs for the entire restaurant and both were being used, so we had to wait a bit. They do not have booster seats. I went to the bar to order a drink and coffee. My husband later went to the bar to order our food, which came out quickly. The food was delicious, but I was a little disappointed with the portion size. I ordered the biscuit and gravy and added fried chicken, and I'm glad I did because the lack of plural in the dish title is no accident. The biscuit and gravy entree was just one biscuit and some scrambled eggs with shredded cheddar sprinkled on top (not melted). I am someone who loves cheese and would have preferred no cheese to it just sprinkled cold on top. The gravy was absolutely delicious, but the biscuit was kind of sad and flat. The fried chicken was excellent. My husband loved his steak omelette. I wanted another drink and, of course, had to go to the bar to order it. This is when I realized how truly annoying this service model is. My foot got cold while I waited during the brunch rush behind people ordering food for their table. You wouldn't have only two servers for all of brunch typically, but that is the model here. There were two bartenders taking care of the bartop and orders for the entire restaurant. It made me not want to order a second drink, which is going to hurt drink sales or result in tables sticking around longer after eating to get a drink. We also didn't have anyone check on us after the food was delivered, so I assume we would have to get any condominents, etc. from the bartender and wait in line for that. I don't understand operating a full-service restaurant like a bar where there is no table service and you self seat and order at the bar. There is a reason other restaurants don't do this. It's not a good dining experience. That said, the food was good and it was a nice vibe. read more

One positive thing about this location is that it's far enough away from the Strand where you can avoid the parking kiosks. If you plan on coming here, you should know this is a cashless business where you place your order at the bar and they'll bring it out to you. They do have a decent list of cocktails, some mocktails, wine, but just a handful of craft beers. If you do prefer a beer, everything is canned, nothing on draft. We ordered a couple of cocktails along with the brisket hash and double smash burger. Both were what I would consider exceptional for the money. If you love a good burger, this place serves it up. When it's time to settle up, you'll head back up to the bar where that handheld device will be waiting for you with the predetermined tips. I am a busy teacher getting ready for school to start Monday, so when they said we had a lunch break today some coworkers wanted to try this place. I had them bring mine back to school for me so I can get some more work done. I chose the brunch burger (fried egg, bacon, caramelized onions, smoked Gouda pimento cheese, I think arugula and a great aioli sauce that comes with fries for $16, but I paid $3 more to get truffle fries. I cannot pass up ordering truffle fries if they are on the menu. The bun was particularly delicious too. Leeland house is one of my favorite restaurants on the island. As a medical student, it was the perfect place for us to get brunch or destress after a tough exam. I have a couple of favorite items on the menu. For starters, the brussel sprouts are delicious. It features a tamari glaze that leaves a nice caramelization and hides any bitterness from the brussels. For the entrees, I love the BLT sandwich and the honey chicken biscuit. Both entrees are made with extremely fresh ingredients and seasoned very well. This is a brunch place that is actually very delicious and definitely worth a try and a chip at your wallet. My Leeland House review originates around four years ago after a night out in Galveston. My friends and I had tried just about every hangover brunch on the island, but once we found Leeland House, we never went anywhere else!!!Throughout our four years at UTMB, we've been here more times than I can count. It became our tradition after a night out and something I genuinely look forward to every weekend. The food is consistently delish and the portions are great. A few favorites are the brisket hash, seasonal salads, and the mimosa flights. The staff is also the best. We've gotten to know many of them, and even become friends with a few over the years. (Special shoutout to Jayden, Veronica, & Cece) The morning we all went our separate ways after med school, we met at Leeland House for one last brunch before leaving town and it felt like a fitting way to wrap up four years of memories. First of all Leeland House is in a beautiful building. You know it's pretty when I am taking pics of the bathroom! On a Saturday afternoon there was a decent crowd but lots of tables to choose from. Leeland House has such a laid back vibe. We snagged a patio table which was delightful because it was a beautiful sunny day. The menu was diverse and prices were reasonable for the island. We split a smash burger which was good and the green pizza (pesto, arugula, and white cheeses with a chewy fresh crust)) which was great! I love unique pizzas. This is your go to spot for brunch if you're ever in Galveston. It's self seated and you go up to the bar to place your order when you're ready. The brussel sprouts don't even taste like brussel sprouts -- it's like you're cheating and not really eating a vegetable. It's not what you're expecting. It carries a super savory/tangy flavor which I personally enjoyed but if you're someone who cannot handle too much flavor on a vegetable, it may not be for you. 100% approve the chicken biscuit sandwich. I could tell that they were using fresh ingredients for both the entree and side salad. The restaurant is open door but cool and well ventilated inside. However, I went before the mosquitos got bad for the summer so I can't speak on that aspect. read more

My husband and I ate at Leeland House on Saturday for brunch. Ayse was the bartender and our server and I have to say she was excellent. All of the staff was very friendly. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they were fantastic. My husband ordered the steak and eggs and everything was good with his dish except for the steak tasted like propane, but it was cooked exceptionally well. Great variety of drinks - be sure to check the bar menu for specials that aren't on the regular menu. The service was perfect, very friendly and attentive. Only thing that got annoying were the flies since the doors were open. They worsened as we were headed out or I would've suggested closing them. The ceiling lamps, wall art, and furniture give this place an elegant feel. The spinach dip was a great appetizer to share! Lots of chips and bread pieces for a large table. My favorite appetizer was the cauliflower, which was drenched in a sweet yet savory sauce! The salmon bowl is my go-to entree here! I love the combination of sweet potatoes, garlic, spinach, mushrooms, and lemon! The salmon is always cooked perfectly too. There aren't any soft surfaces though, so the ambient noise and music bounce like crazy and it gets very loud. That can be fixed with some absorption panels in discreet places. If you're with someone who doesn't hear well they will not get any of your conversation. There is a serious gap in the service. We sat and weren't acknowledged for a long time. Finally we ordered food. And waited. And waited. Finally the server who was also the barista told us that our ticket had been "lost". So she has to take our entire order yet again. And we waited. Food arrived. All the food coming out is very pretty. I wish I had looked at other people's plates before choosing my entree. But that's on me for not choosing the right thing. This was my second visit and Leeland House did not disapoint! We were a party of 7 and everyone's was fantastic. The only thing I don't care for is that you have to go to the bar to order and also you have to get your own coffee. I think it would be nice if they had carafes of coffee so you didn't have to keep making trips back over to the back wall. They also did not have creamer so I had to keep asking at the bar for some. I think they could also make it more obvious that you have to go to the bar to order. If I hadn't read it online, I wouldn't have known. My guest thought the music was too loud, but one of them had a hearing aid so it really bothered him. We were also in the back corner by the speaker. Personally, I think the music creates a fun atmosphere for young people to enjoy brunch. The staff was extremely friendly. Everyone was pretty helpful and had smiles on their faces.
