Got a state inspection here on a Wednesday morning. Got here at 8 AM when they opened, I was done by 8:30. The staff is efficient and helpful, they get you in and out and make sure you get what you need done. I haven't had any work done here so I can't speak to that but the inspection was fast and I passed so that's good. The only issue was that the credit card machine wasn't working due to internet connection issues so I had to walk next door to the supermarket to use the ATM and get cash. If this were expensive work and not a $20 inspection that might have been a problem. But I don't think this was Lee's Auto Center's fault I think it was the internet company's fault, so I won't hold this against them. They have several comfy couches you can sit on and wait while they do your inspection, or you can leave and come back. Either way you will be in good hands. They are awesome, efficient, high quality. And they have cool decor with license plates and mini-cars on the wall. I really like them. I will be coming back next time. Thank you Lee's Auto Center for your help! read more

hard to figure out where to start. I spoke with Mr. Lee about my 2019 Jeep Wrangler having issues with it running rough and my auto start stop. He diagnosed it right away and fixed it very promptly. He was honest about the amount of work and is beyond fair for pricing. I went back about two weeks after to have wheels, tires, headlights, and a receiver hitch put on. He did a fantastic job and the Jeep runs great and looks great as well. He is a very great mechanic and I will be returning to him for any of my auto needs. WARNING: HAD TO TOW MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS SHOP!! Went in because I heard clicking on a RAV4 reversing. Lee was quick to sell me on an axle replacement and 3 motor mounts. I agreed to have it done and the next day he told me that it was the caliper after already replacing my axle and mounts. Whatever, he wins I thought. Mind you, he didn't tell me the caliper issue till after he took my money. I was driving home from VA to NYC when I heard clunking sounds come from my car. I just barely made it back to the city and now have to tow my vehicle because I hear clunking, metal grinding, and steering alignment issues. Lee will comment an excuse to blame me for this but it is 100% the fault of his shop. They not only sold me on fixing an issue that wasn't requested, price hiked a part the next day, but also did it wrong and forced me to tow my car. read more

Avoid. We dropped off my daughter's car here yesterday for an oil change, safety inspection, which he said was due in August, and to have them plug a tire. When we got back he announced that he did an emissions inspection which we never authorized and which he of course charged for. Turns out the safety inspection was not due for another month. He also told us the car did not pass emissions because the check engine light was on. He would have seen this the minute he started the car to out it in the rack. He said cars with check engine lights never pass inspection. So why did he do the inspection anyway? To bill more, of course. Now this morning the transmission is completely shot. The car rumbles and groans and vibrates. The car has never done this until this morning. When I called to ask about it ,the owner washed their hands of it, said he never touched the transmission, and told us to take the to be fixed at the dealership. Beware. read more

Thank you Mr Lee! My Mercedes e500 had cracks in the suspension arm as well as a bent k frame. I was very worried about repair costs, and my car was not drivable. I brought it to Lee's and they were able to do work that normally a body shop would need to do. They bent the frame back into position, which was no easy task. He sourced the suspension parts at a reasonable price, and had my car back on the road in 2 days. The cost for all of this was extremely reasonable, and Mr Lee was straight forward about the repairs. He really seems to loves cars, and he has become my regular mechanic. This was not my first time going to him. He's worked on my Saab as well, and always provides fast, exceptional service. read more

I had a truly disappointing experience at this emissions inspection shop. I politely asked the korean guy which I believe he's the owner and the most racist person I've ever met , to be careful while removing the old inspection sticker since I had just applied a new one that hadn't dried yet. Instead of acknowledging the concern, he snapped back rudely, saying I shouldn't tell him how to do his job. To top it off, he snatched my car keys in a way that felt aggressive and disrespectful. It was completely uncalled for. No customer deserves to be treated this way--especially when voicing a reasonable request. If I could give negative 5 stars I would. My husband and I brought his Jeep in to see if Mr. Lee could take a look at it, to see what was wrong. The ignition wouldn't start but it WOULD start via remote starter. We left it and got a call that he could fix it and in addition needs almost $1000 worth of work. We agreed to the extra work because we thought he had our best interest in mind. Being our first time at this establishment, we took a chance. BIG MISTAKE!!! We received the 1st call that the vehicle was ready for pick up. When we arrived, it would not start by ignition or remote starter. So now the vehicle is completely inoperable. After more tries, we received a call stating they have washed their hands of this and we need to get it towed to a dealership. He wouldn't consider paying for the tow after he charged us almost $1,000 to make the car in worse condition. He's unethical and immoral and needs to take some accountability for his actions. Take the negative reviews to account, and trust me they are all true. If I would have read the negative reviews, I would have definitely stayed away from this garage. I would most definitely not recommend this place to anyone that is hard working and doesn't want to get RIPPED OFF. DO BETTER SIR! read more

He has fair prices (much better than my dealership or other shops I've gone to), shorter wait times, and takes the time to explain stuff to me. The man at the front desk is racist to anyone who is not Korean. My boyfriend took my car in for a safety inspection and emissions test and when he came home he was extremely upset at the way he had been treated. One of the mechanics offered to fill up a slightly low tire for us for free, it only needed about 1lb of air, and when the man at the front desk found out he got extremely angry, and tried to charge my boyfriend. He talked down to and argued with my boyfriend and would not drop the situation. He also seemed to treat the other mechanics poorly. I would highly suggest going elsewhere for these things. There are so many places in the area to get a safety inspection. His job is to sell customer service and he failed to do that completely. I would only suggest this place If you enjoy being talked down to and belittled and you like racist people. read more

We have been taking our cars to Mr. Lee's shop for more than two decades and remain well satisfied. He has sometimes gotten the diagnosis wrong on the first try, but that is inevitable in automotive mechanics. But he has not given up until the problem is really fixed as well as possible and I have never felt that his charges were excessive -- certainly far less than dealer rates! He has continued to study and keep abreast of the changes in the technology, and I note that he invests in new diagnostic and repair equipment. I recommend him highly! read more

Lee fixed a problem with the alignment that they misdiagnosed multiple times. And at a better rate. Since that time , Lee is my go to. He thinks about the problems before he addresses them. He doesn't rely solely on a computer diagnostic code. He is a car whisperer. And yes, he takes his time. Because he wants to give you the right solution for the car problem. His rates are competitive and fair. If you are looking for the truth, you won't find a better mechanic. I went there for a state inspection and i had brake work that needed to be done. I said I had a mechanic who would handle it and the owner (who is Korean) said I "was a white man driving my wife's car so what did I know". He then proceeded to instigate multiple arguments for the next fifteen minutes until we could get our paperwork and get out of there. Please be aware of the extremely rude owner of this shop. I have used this mechanic in the past, more than once, and he was different. I am not sure what happened to him today, but man, what a horrible behavior he had. I had the worst customer service experience at a mechanic in my life. I find this two-faced - bipolar kind of behavior untrustworthy. I do not trust his work. I called in early to ask if I could get my car's spark plugs replaced and do a tune-up. Lee, the "mechanic," told me, "no problem," and came immediately. I changed my schedule around. He told me he needed to do a full diagnostic when I got there. When we walked to his office, he gave me some pricing, and when I asked about the prices of only spark plugs, he started to get mad. I told him I was a little tight on cash at the moment, which is accurate, and that is the only reason I am checking on the cost of things and what I can afford to do at the time. I know I had not changed the spark plus in 3 years or done a tune-up. Because of how the car was running, it was clear it needed that. He was angry and frustrated and yelled at me, "we don't do bad work. We do good work only if you want to go chip, chip go somewhere else.." So, the guy kicked me out of his shop. He could have just told me that is our price, and I would have said yes. That would have been that. My wife heard him yelling at me from the car and asked me what was wrong with that guy? Why is he yelling at you? Is he crazy? This is entirely unprofessional and disrespectful. He made me wait my time, and honestly, nobody deserves that. If I could give less than one star for Lees auto I would. Though the owner is quick to help I've come to realize why. He has capacity due to his terrible service, lack of attention to detail & shady business practices. I came here to get a simple state inspection & emissions test. After paying, I noticed that the inspection sticker was extremely off center and crooked. I asked him to please fix it as I would have to stare at his terrible handiwork for the next year (naturally I said it much nicer). He peeled the sticker off - almost in pieces - and then put the same one back on. It honestly looked as if it was stolen and I shared with him my distaste for the look of it and my fear that I may get pulled over or cited for a stolen decal. I then took it to the Mason District police station to ask if it was legit. The officer immediately asked why he didn't just replace it and when I said I went to Lee's Auto she said "oh, I would never go there." So.. Take this as a warning. I needed a place that could go a timing belt replacement and service for a fair price. I randomly drove up to Lee's Auto Center, talked to the manager, and he quotes me a price that was at least $350 cheaper than the place up the street. I make an appointment, bring my car in the night before, and it is ready to be picked up the next day. The manager even took time to show me what needed to be done on a picture, the old parts removed from the vehicle, and even wiped the components under the hood clean. If you're looking for a no-BS, no-frills, straight-forward and great mechanic, come here. My first time there and it was a complete nightmare. For someone who has been in customer service for years has no customer service skills. I took my car there to get the state sticker renewal and ended up with a bill for emissions test which come to find out I didn`t need it yet, it expires next October, and he also over charged me for a fog light. Three of the gentleman took turns on my car including Mr, Lee. The place was so dirty and smelled, I waited standing because the chairs looked soiled and very smelly. He should invest in the waiting room area because it smells and its very discussing. As a woman I felt that Mr. Lee took advantage of me. I handed my car keys to Mr, Lee and he lost them it ended up costing me $900 to get another key made. This should never happen to anyone. Losing my keys was unacceptable. They couldn`t even remember who had them last or where they placed them. I was so disturbed by this experience. I will not recommend this place. When I arrived, Mr. LEE, the owner of the mechanic, treated me well. Until my car was in his hands he treated me badly, and he yelled at me and told me that only Americans come here and that I should go somewhere else where the Hispanics are. Then he lied to me, I went to get the oil changed, he didn't have the filter for my car, he told me to come back after 6 hours. When I approached to ask the mechanic who changed my oil, this Mr. Lee came, very angry, and told me don't bother them, but I was just asking the mechanics what happened and then he started calling and recording and said go back, don't come near me. and went backwards, why? I just wanted to ask him and he wouldn't let me ask him. I don't know what intentions this man had, so I didn't return to the place, he didn't change the filter and he received full payment. I went somewhere else for the oil change service, never go there, I do not recommend this Mr. Lee, he is a very liar, even his mechanics tremble, I saw the fear on the faces of those Hispanic mechanics. read more

Took my car to get a repair done to the parking brake on my manual. Mr. Lee told us he was having trouble finding the part, but eventually located it. After less than a week, the part breaks again and the button on the parking brake pops out to show that they had not found a new part at all, but instead just patched the old part and charged us for a new one. My husband called, and I went over and got a refund for the entire repair including the non-existant part. My husband found the part no problem and replaced it himself for $25. Dishonest, but did give us our money back without a hassle. But then again, how could they not? read more

I got swindled out of at least $20 on what should have been a ~$50 tab. -Had to pay for a $6.50 oil filter when I never asked for one -Got charged $15.50 for an $8-10 headlight -Apparently it takes a seasoned mechanic 10 minutes at $95/hr to put in a basic clip-on headlight. It's a 2 minute procedure...including opening the box. Will not go back and would not recommend. read more

Got rejected for inspection due to "cloudy headlight" and "broken motor mount". Estimate for motor mount was $400+. Told him to fix headlight ($90) and would wait on mount. Took to Auto Stop on four mile run to see if getting ripped off (have suspected him in the past). They said no broken mount at all - nothing even remotely visible. Will go to them for all future auto care. Mr. Lee is a ripoff artist. Was trying to do a local business right (I live across the street) and I get screwed for my patronage. read more

It's tough to take reviews too seriously because people either have great or bad experiences, so take this for what you will. I came here for a state inspection. Oddly enough, when I told him who my mechanic is, he hates him. He had plenty say about why I shouldn't go to him and how many problems people have with him, etc. I get rejected and he tells me to go back to my mechanic and get it fixed. But he also tells me I should find a new mechanic. Fast forward to going back to get the "issues" fixed with my guy. I come back to Lees and he instantly asks me if I had to pay. Really just cares about continuing to badmouth my mechanic. So bizarre. He goes to my car and without spending a minute near it, he goes back into a tangent about my mechanic and that he didn't fix it. I got in my car and told him I wouldn't be back. Professionals should behave with more professionalism and tact. read more

I went to him because my Infiniti was turning off at a low idle. He said I need a tune up and fuel injector cleaner procedure costing $550. He called my cell and said the air compressor was causing the problem and wanted $1300. When I asked him a couple fair and reasonable questions he went on a rant with me and said I always want to pay half price and I don't trust him. I paid the $550 and went Passport Infiniti who diagnosed the problem as a software update and charged me $146 for the diagnosis fee. This guy is a hot head and a crook. My instincts were correct about his diagnosis. Don't go to him!! I will go to a shop with integrity and much better customer service skills!! read more

My go-to auto shop in northern Virginia. Had some engine problems due to another local shop's poor mechanic work and Mr. Lee quickly and efficiently diagnosed the problem and fixed it. His prices are fair and he wants the best for you and your safety behind the wheel. I had to leave town for a few days and he was nice enough to let me leave my car there throughout the repair process until I returned for no extra charge or lot fee. FRAUD. FRAUD. FRAUD. Specifically the cashier- front desk guy is a FRAUD. Hes an Asian Man probably in his late 40's- early 50's who likes to take advantage of women who don't know much about cars. He approaches you at your car and asks what you need. When I replied "an oil change" he said "ok...looks like you need an emission/transmission inspection too" (not sure which but my windshield sticker was expired) BUT I didn't want to get it done because I needed to check with my dad and brother first. So I said "I just want an oil change for today because I need to double check" he said ok. Once they were done with the service the mechanic guy says "you failed the inspection, you need a light bulb and the windshield wipers fixed." I'm looking at him all confused and told him I never requested the inspection....I EVEN told him to place my expired sticker back on the windshield glass. He's reply "it's too late". Fastfoward to where I'm trying to explain to the cashier that I never requested the inpspection, he IMMEDIATLEY faults me, doesn't hear my side of the story (he literally grabbed my car keys and walked out on me as I was talking), and then comes back threatening to call the police on me saying "You only dont wanna pay because You failed the inspection" and he's "proof" of me saying yes to the inspection, was my expired sticker...? He kept saying "see, see, it's expired". I was furious - I asked a woman there for help (it was his wife) whom turned a blind eye and left the store. That's when I realized no one would help me and decided to pay...THIS GUY HAD THE AUDACITY TO OVER CHARGE ME!! At first tried saying $85 . I had to be the one to correct him and say that's impossible because a oil change is $40 and inspection $25. he tried playing it like he mistaken my car with another. Totall bull. Oh and once I paid....guess what he said? He said that I was a bad customer and that he was really doing me a favor. NEVER AGAIN, EVEN IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, WOULD I EVER GO BACK THERE. Total unprofessional, humiliating, horrible experience. I say this with the most respect but, it has made me not trust an Asian mechanic. I first went to Lee's Auto Center several years ago for an emissions inspection for my 2003 Honda Accord. I had a very positive experience, and have since returned for regular maintenance for my car, which is aging very well thanks to Mr. Lee's attention to it. Sometimes there is a wait, which any reasonable person would expect, but I am certain that I have never been oversold on what work was needed, nor overcharged. There have been a few times when I went in just because my car was making a strange noise, and where a less scrupulous mechanic would have taken the opportunity to fabricate some expensive repair, Mr. Lee pointed out the cause as an inexpensive matter, or one not requiring any repair at all. read more

The person at the front desk was EXTREMELY RUDE! Given that I went to get emission testing, the level of unpleasantness, rudeness, and discourtesy was astounding. I merely asked if he could tell me if I needed both a smog check and safety check. Response "we don't know your personal lives." That was the beginning of the conversation. They already had my car in the bay or I would have left. I went outside as I had no desire to continue the unpleasant conversation. When I went to pay, he said "you must have come in a bad mood." We've gotten a few things done here: inspections and oil changes etc. Everyone is always so nice and quick! I needed some more work done on my car but they gave us an up front estimate, told us we could spread it all out, and even reduced the amount of money we paid based on what they initially told us.
