The food used to be really tasty here. Not sure what happened could be the increse of customers and they cannot handle the huge demand. The oxtails are now tough as nails to chew when they use to melt like butter, the brownstew chicken is dry as if it is freezer burned , the jerk chicken has really went downhill taste like charcoal now yuck...it use to be my fav. Mac n cheese has good flavor but way to greasy. The cabbage is way over peppered. rice n peas overcooked but yams are still yummy and fresh. I absolutely love Lee's Kitchen. The food is exceptional and is always fresh. The prices are a value. I can share my dinner plate with one other adult and we are both satisfied. The staff is always courteous and friendly. I have taken many friends to the establishment who have never tried Jamaican food and they are all instantly addicted. I won't say the food isn't good, because it is. If you're a cook you know the difference, it's like going to grandma's house. I will say that they could work on customer service, which never bothered me as much until today. I had to return a meal I picked up on yesterday, as the fish I ordered was left to cook too long and was too hard to eat. Whomever cooked or plated the meal surely knew better. I called & left msg, but of course no return call. They never answer the phone so maybe no one cks msgs either. The flesh part was like jerky, or wood, and it tasted burnt; like it was fried in grease where the flour burnt and not changed. I got a half azz, "sorry." im Jamaican and i cannot believe i just wasted my life and money here,such a waste man! first off they charge you $15 for oxtail which is way too damn much! they don't even give you options to choose the size plate you want, only two sizes (which in my opinion it should should small, medium and large) the oxtail is just super bland, thin and just all wrong. whoever the cook is, should go to Jamaica and learn a few things. this isn't a Jamaican restaurant at all! very disappointed. don't know how they are open with the nasty food. very distasteful. never again, never again. btw im being really courteous by giving this restaurant 1-star. this restaurant should have zero stars and a "out of business" sign on the door!!!!!!!!! read more

I really hate leaving this review but I just had to write it! I had a bad experience with Lee's kitchen years ago so I vowed to never return. However, after having a serious craving for Jamaican food I decided to give them another try. Big mistake...Huge! To start off there were a few flies hovering around the serving area! I know, I probably should have left then but I needed this fix! Next, I decided to get the curry chicken, rice, cabbage and side of oxtail for dinner. The curry chicken was soupy with shredded chicken and fragments of bones in every bite! I couldn't take it! The cabbage lack flavor and the rice was horrible! The oxtails were so small and meatless! The oxtail gravy and plantains were good though. Needless to say, I'll never visit this place again. Definitely not worth the 10 minutes drive. read more

I have eaten at lees many time but lately the food have seem to change. I isn't as good as it used to be and the workers are very rude. Plus they give you less food now. You are better off buying the food yourself and cooking it for the amount that they charge you. I dont suggest the one on Capital at all. read more

The menu feature authentic Jamaican cuisine as well as good old down home comfort food. I ordered the Jerk Chicken dinner, the wife had ribs, and our friend indulged in the Oxtail. I agree with one of the other reviewers in that the checkout/order process could be improved. My only other negative is that it would be great to see this place expanded to facilitate a seating area. The chicken had a great spicy flavor, the ribs fell off the bone, and the Oxtail was extremely juicy and delicious. Don't get me started about the side! Mac and cheese = insanely good, string beans out of this world, and the cornbread alone is worth the trip. My only final negative would be that the peas and rice were a bit bland, but if mixed with other elements of the meal they became more desirable. Just moved to the area and had a taste for Jamaican, so decided to try them out by getting a veggie platter. The experience was disappointing because I wanted to like it so much. First, I watched while a young lady gave me nice, generous portions and then hand it off to a young man who chastised her for giving the wrong size take out container. He went back and forth about whether to take back the already dished out portion (would he have put it back in the serving dishes -- yuck), but instead he made sure to tell me I got the bigger sized container instead of the smaller one. Um, ok. I'm forewarned for the next time. Oops, probably won't be a next time! The food -- macaroni & cheese and beef patty were really good. The cabbage was just ok and had a lot of mixed vegetables with it which was different. The rice and peas were awful and tasteless and the plantains were burned. Now that's how you feed a family of two, where one is vegetarian and the other is not. ;-) We purchased a vegetable plate with four nicely-portioned, yummy sides for $7.49. My other half enjoyed jerk chicken, mac-and-cheese and greens for lunch. He also purchased a dinner entree with smothered turkey wings and the same sides. I cook some amazing turkey wings, so he said those at Lee's were just okay. He explained they needed a bit more seasoning. I found this place on Yelp. It said parking was not an option, it is. We walk in intending on lunch, we were greeted by what appeared to be 2 not so happy caucasian women at the counter. They began to rush us for our order, they didn't readily answer our questions. I ordered Jerk chicken (made it clear no thighs wanted), cabbage and peas and rice. One of us ordered jerk chicken, collard greens and cabbage. The other ordered grilled chicken, rice and peas and cabbage. I received my order with the girl telling me she may have put a thigh in my order and if she did, bring it back she'll exchange it. I'm surprised at her stupidity. Another one of us forgot to get a drink and was nearly harrassed about spending $5 to purchase a drink because drinks are sold with orders only! Strange. However, they had to prove they already ordered food to go. I attempted to exchange that thigh I didn't want and was completely ignored. We waited over 15 minutes for the grilled chicken order. When we returned to the job with our food, the grill chicken was tasted by all 3 of us and agreed it tasted way too salty and like fried chicken and not grilled. This lady threw away her $12 plate of food and settled for crackers! I ate my jerk chicken which looked good but still weird because it was black almost looking simular to the movie "The Blob". The jerk chicken tasted well enough to eat though, it was all that tasted well enough to eat. All the meat tasted as if cooked in the same oil as fish. I threw away the watery vegetables and the peas and rice that fully taste like coconut milk! Yuk. The next morning I was vomiting and knowing nothing followed that horrible lunch and experience, I attributed it to the jerk chicken I ate from here. Good luck eating here. I love this place. I have tried everything and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the Brownstew chicken and the smothered turkey wings. The collard greens and Mac and cheese are the best around this area. You have to catch the potato salad because it sells out quickly. I love the red velvet cake it tastes very similar to my mom's recipe. I don't think you can go wrong with any meal here. They are a distance from me which is a good thing because I would probably go daily. They also have a food truck that has been in the Morrisville area lately. I have had 3 meals here. The first meal was jerk chicken because that's what you base the authenticity of Jamaican food right?! I got the lunch special which cost me around $8.00. The generous portion size was abundant with tender chunks of dark and light bone in chicken deliciousness. I had them put extra jerk sauce on it which was a mistake, as it is the real deal scotch bonnet burn your ass hot. I had it with peas and rice which were standard and a side of collards. Collards were too vinegary. Second meal were oxtails which consisted of 70% bone, 20% fat and 10% marrow meat . This is not my first rodeo with oxtails, if braised right the meat should just be easily sucked of the bone. I don't think they use quality oxtails. Again peas and rice were standard. I spent about $13 for the oxtails. Third meal was lunch size brown chicken stew. I guess I was expecting a Trinidad or Guyanese style spicy brown stew. Lee's kitchen brown stew is sweeter, rather than spicy. They are very generous with serving size. The bone is left on chicken and very tender. Had it on plain ole white rice and a side of very salty mixed veggies. read more

Stopped by their food truck and got the jerk chicken. It was the best I've ever eaten, and went back for a second plate to save for later! The amount of heat was spot on, and it didn't at all prevent the delicious flavor of the sauce from coming through. I visited the Raleigh Blvd. location today; two things: 1. Ordered smothered turkey wings...wings were not smothered but rather gravy poured over wings upon order. Big difference! 2. Me and a few co-workers ~8 decided to take a trip over to Lee's Kitchen today after they catered an event for my corporation.I have met the owners Ellison and Burgess a few times at events.Nice ppl. After going today to the restaurant, I will say the food taste GREAT! but CUSTOMER SERVICE is horrible!The ppl that are serving need a class on how to smile while serving and greet ppl.The entire staff serving left a bad taste in my mouth.I went today to grab some dinner ~5pm.As we entered, the cashier was sort of friendly and said hello after we where standing there for ~10min but after I said hello first...great way to greet customers...smh.The young man behind the counter serving was quiet but had a somewhat good demeanor but the heavy set lady with the Magoo glasses behind the counter serving was sooooo rude. I asked for more food on my plate as she was very light handed after me and my co-workers spend over $120 ($15 a plate) and she said, "that's all you get" and rolled her eyes.How rude! Ellison and Burgess, great food but you need to replace your serving and cashier staff asap especially, the lady with the glasses.Don't have her name but I'm sure you have a schedule of who was on staff during ~5pm shift. After her rude demeanor, me or my co-workers won't be back. I'll also inform my corporate to not have Lee's Kitchen come back to cater for our events in the future.Shame on Lee's Kitchen for hiring such horrible staff to serve the public.I guess you can't even pay ppl to smile and be friendly now-a-days.If you can't be friendly/smile, then don't get a job serving the public instead apply for a job with Wake County Correctional Dept...you can frown all day with the inmates.Lee's, you have to do better and hire smarter! read more

First time here and a suggestion from my brother. I was in the area, so I decided to stop in. I was not that hungry, I just grabbed 2 beef patties.. one for that evening and 1 for the next day... a side of mac & cheese and a side of collard greens. Let me say that the greens are good and I can appreciate a good spice level, but these are extremely hot and spicy. They are probably cooked in scotch bonnet peppers.. If you can not tolerate it, please do not order. The mac n cheese are spicy too, but probably the best I've had in awhile. The beef patties were decent. Customer service was really good. The cashier greeted everyone as they ordered. Next time I'll order oxtails for my mother since I know she likes them. My mother use to make them when I was younger..I never cared for it.. Today I went in to get an oxtail dinner and a brown stew chicken dinner. I had no problem while in the store. I was distracted while in the store so I did not see the food being placed inside the container. Once I got home I opened the oxtail dinner and discovered 6 oxtails inside. I then looked at the other dinner I purchased and saw only 2 pieces of chicken in the plate. I called the store and asked to speak with the manager. The woman who got on the phone did not give me her name. I proceed to tell her my complaint and when I was done she told me that the only thing that was changed was the size of the plates recently and that 6 oxtails and 2 pieces of chicken where what came in the dinners. She said that the number of oxtails you receive depends on how big the oxtails are. She said since I only received 6 and that means that they were pretty big. I told her that I have been a customer for years and I have always gotten more oxtails than this. I told her that I spent $30 and normally spend more and often, but since this was a change that was made she would no longer have to worry about my business. She said ok thank you and hung up the phone. I will not be going back. The oxtails we're salty and the Mac and cheese was not good. Their food now matches their customer service. I'm done. read more

They will never get my money again!!! Every time I go I'm reminded why I stopped going the first couple times. Definitely doesn't live up to the hype but I went today because my fav Jamaican spot is closed sundays( Mum's Jamaican) First, most of the food is already prepared but they take so long just to plate the food so if you go plan to be in there for at least 15-20 min even if you're the only person there. They have terrible customer service and have no sense of urgency or care.They usually are pretty gracious with the servings size but the food is rather mediocre for the experience they give. Went today for the first time this year and the bread was hard and nasty, they waited until the stew chicken got to the bottom and instead of replacing it with a fresh pan they scooped every bone and piece of soggy chicken skin on the plate and this was after they accidentally skipped over me and I had been waiting 30 min already while they served 8 other customers in front of me and acted like they had an attitude when they realized their mistake. Didn't get a sorry, here's something to drink for your wait, take a dessert. I would go to Mum's Jamaican right up the street from them any day.
