Let me start off by saying *really* wanted to love this like I used to. Meh. Just meh. I ordered banh mi dac biet (Vietnamese combo cold cuts with pate & Vietnamese mayo), 2 small pate chauds (Vietnamese -- with French influence -- savory puff pastry with meat), and cafe sua da (Vietnamese ice drip coffee with ice and condensed milk). Banh Mi: $3.99 -- 2/5 -Bland. It just tastes like bread and random cold cuts. The pickled carrots/daikon had more flavor. -Barely ANY pate & Vietnamese mayo. (Which would've helped build the flavor.) -Tough and forever chewy. I'm literally starting to get that little raw spot behind my front two teeth in gums from this bread. -Overall, would not recommend. If you're in Bellaire, there are SO MANY other places to get amazing banh mi from -- go there instead. Waste of carbs :( Pate Chaud: $0.95 per (small size) -- 3/5 -Size of the actual pastry was ok. Pate chaud in the same first window, and they had me pull up to the second window to pick up my banh mi. Cost: -Pretty cheap, I had a hard time hitting the $10 card minimum and whoever took my order kindly let me checkout with a $9.25 subtotal. -Some of the items weren't worth it their cost though. I've been eating here for years because my family usually buy food here. However, I usually don't go in here and there's a reason for that. The rowdy crowd of men sitting outside smoking and chatting away. Be careful in this plaza when driving, people tend not to look and drives all over the place. I preferred the traditional banh mi over their banh mi. Their baguettes are skinnier and longer. However, I like their banh mi egg and late sandwich. They have theses croissant sandwiches with ham/roasted beef, lettuce and tomatoes in it. They also have these puff pastries shaped like a corn. Those are good. The best thing about this place is the Vietnamese coffee. Rich and delicious. My favorite is the iced mocha coffee. It's a bit darker than the Viet coffee and the flavor is addicting. Wakes me up instantly. Another bonus is the drive-through. Most of the time, it's fast and easy. Now it's $10 minimum on card instead of cash only. When it comes to banh mi in Houston, there is no shortage of great local options. Lee's is a mainstay in the Viet sandwich scene, as it is in all communities boasting larger than average Vietnamese populations. The story is the same here as it is in most Lee's throughout the country: fresh bread, big space, average sandwiches at best. It's hard to pinpoint the nature of the average beast, but most of the sandwiches seem a tad too dry and are sometimes a bit too inconsistent with meat/veg-to-bread ratios. I admittedly am obsessed with pate and prefer it slathered on the sammy, but don't like to pay extra for what would be considered a normal helping on any other sandwich out there. My usual banh mi dac biet (house special) is the only combo worth considering in the Viet hoagie spectrum - the rest are a tad on the ho hum side. Service and price are good enough to warrant returns. Sub $3 sandwiches in today's economy, let alone in the ever so hot banh mi world is a reason to consider anything from Lee's. Ugly: #8 bánh mi ham eggs. The Patê definitely lack of boldness and richness flavor of butter/fat. The Ham/Cha lua lack of sodium/salt and bland like watered down drink. The sandwich overall lacked of soy sauce and salt and pepper. It even went gross with the pickled onion. We don't add pickled onions to trim the cost of white radish, for taste. Lastly, the worse insult of all-- the eggs is fully cooked. We liked runny yolks because it gives the sandwich a unique flavor of op la. Kem chui. Overly drenched in coconut milk and sugar. It should be lightly dropped with condensed milk and sprinkle fine. Rushed peanuts. There should be a balance of banana, peanut, and coconut, this one overwhelmed with coconut milk. Banana is the highlights and the type of banana matters. Improvements: This place has gone commercial. It maybe good for general huge party orders, but clearly not something to be enjoyed for lunch/brunch. Note: I am glad that our people hire diverse group of people to work. Do you like bahn mi ? Do you like boba? Then you have to try Lee's sandwiches. This is a chain restaurant that has over 60+ locations, they can be hit or miss. This location is definitely a hit. I believe this is the largest location in existence, they have a dal-majool station, ice cream, a neat waffle station, and of course your sandwich counter where they also sell coffee, Thai tea, boba, and other goodies like shrimp chips or dried shredded pork. All Lees's locations make their own baguettes fresh in the store, and this location showcases their production with glass windows looking into the bakery. I always go between the BBQ pork sandwich, and the grilled pork sandwich both are delicious, and on occasion I've enjoyed their vegetarian sandwich. There are so many options though. The bahn mi's at this location at $3.69 and they only take cards on orders over $10 what a shame you'll have to buy three! This visit I also tried their cream puffs, I picked out a box and brought them to the cashier. To my surprise the cashier took them into the back to have them filled right then, talk about fresh. They were amazing I will definitely buy these again. We also sampled their egg roll for 65 cents and it was delicious. I am not a fan of non homemade egg rolls either, but these were definitely delicious. Their smoothie and boba list are so long with many different flavors but I enjoy the tarot and banana flavors. If you're not a crazy boba fan I'd say to ask for a small amount or none, because they are very heavy handed with the boba pearls. There's a hint of hazelnut and creaminess that makes this coffee stand apart from other cafe sua da. Cashier was helpful and was in guidelines with COVID. Definitely come here for their coffee! Ever since I had Lee's Sandwiches in California I've always craved it. When I found it they had some restaurants when I moved to Houston, I was excited!! The sandwiches are really average but for some reason I really like that. I'd come here more if it wasn't so far from my place. The restaurant is pretty big, but I've never seen it filled. They also have a drive thru though I've never utilized it. Their iced coffee is probably one of the best I've had, except they use way too much ice. Also another thing to note is that I would never buy anything other than sandwiches or drinks here. if i can give this store a 0 star i would, be careful of their patechaud. Okay so here is the story time: i bought their patechaud before 9:00 so i can bring to work to eat. I start the day feeling so good to live. So i have their patechaud for breakfast I didn't have anything before that nor drink water.
