Buffalo calamari was amazing! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Bar pies are thin crust and really great. I ordered sausage with fresh garlic... my breath stank but it was well worth it lol. Washed it down with a blue moon. Unfortunately the service wasn't the best. I sat down and didn't get a menu until my friend came about 10 minutes later. Then we waited even longer for the waitress to give us the bill. This place is a hidden gem on the north shore. I went decades as a south shore guy and never new about this place. I am now obsessed and could not say more about how great the pizza is here. I came here for dinner on a Sunday night with a group of 4 people. This is definitely a no frills neighborhood place with paper plates. We ordered the fried calamari appetizer and the large white clam pie. The fried calamari was hot and crispy. The marinara sauce that came with the calamari wasn't that spicy though. It was thick, chunky, and flavorful though. The white clam pie was hot, cheesy, and the crust was crunchy since it was thin crust pizza. It's only $15.50 for a large white clam pie such was a great deal. Service was fast and attentive. It does get crowded later so come before 6pm and there shouldn't be a wait. Cool place and a true Staten Island local experience. I stopped by here on my Staten Island exploration, sat at the bar, ordered the everything pizza the bartender recommended, got a jack and coke, and just watched and listened the locals enjoy their Friday afternoon. The people watching and vibe was worth the visit, but the pizza was solid as well. They have a full bar and about 10 beers on tap. If I'm ever in the area again, will try the clam pizza since it's "trending" and does look good in the pics. read more

There's a soft spot in my heart for casual, no frills thin crust pizza spots that bring you pizza on a metal tray with ample amounts of paper plates and tiny napkins that you inevitably use up. After leaving New Haven, I had yet to find such a spot until I came to Staten Island. Apparently, the casual thin crust pizza spots are plentiful, but I only came to Lee's Tavern: it did not disappoint. My two hungry friends and I came last weekend around 2:30 so it wasn't packed, but there was a steady stream of people coming in for late lunch. We ordered the Garlic Bread with Mozzarella and a large Everything Pizza with no anchovies. The garlic bread was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. The pizza, on the other hand, was delicious. They piled on the toppings and by the end of the meal, we were all stuffed. I definitely need to make a trip back to Staten Island soon. read more

I have been hearing about Lee's Tavern for a few years now. It's been on my list of places to check out. I don't live in Staten Island but last night I was there for an event with a group of friends. We decided we would stop at Lee's to see what all the fuss was about. This place did not disappoint. The pints were cold and crisp. The service was great. Staff super friendly. Now on to the main event, the pizza! The pizza was excellent!!! I had the regular pie and also had it with pepperoni. Cooked perfect. Tangy sauce which I loved! Perfect sauce to cheese ratio for me. My buddies got the clam pie. They loved it more than the regular. I don't eat clams so I can't comment on that. However, they talked about it all night. My favorite SI place for BUFFALO CALAMARI. When I'm in SI once a week I get this calamari!!! Their thin crust pizza is good but I feel like they skim out on the topping sometimes especially the pepperoni! This pepperoni pie is the best picture I got out of all the other times I get it. This place was like a hole in the wall but in a quite residential area. Their clam pizza is amazing! Loved the garlicky flavor. Their regular cheese pizza was also on point -- thin crust. It's really a bar but the pizza they serve is stellar. They don't serve chicken wings here but their calamari buffalo style is like a combination of wings and the usual fried calamari. If you are craving for pizza, I think it's worth the trip to Staten Island plus you are supporting family-owned business. read more

This pizza has gone downhill from the last time I tried it. The pizza is a bar style, very thin and crispy and so small that it feeds one. But the crust is too crispy. I know that sounds crazy to say, how could pizza be too crispy? Well, it falls apart, like a cracker when you bite into it, especially towards the end, after the 3rd bite. The entire slice fell apart into pieces when I bit into it. And to make matters worse, there was a thick film of flour still stuck on the bottom of the pizza; and it was as if the pizza wasn't cooked long enough. The dough is so thin that it cooks faster than everything else cooks. I was disappointed in the sauce too, it tasted raw, like canned tomato puree, and not cooked enough. The cheese wasn't tangy at all, and lacked the nutty richness that you get from so many other quality pizzas around NYC. Despite all these issues I have with it, I do acknowledge the fact that the pizza does have it's own character and it's style is unique. If someone were to hand me this pizza and not tell me where it's from I would know right away that it's a Lee's Tavern pizza. It just lacked overall flavor. 6/10 and 3 stars out of 5. read more
