We went to scout it out for a company party, no one really greeted us at the door, so we sat at the bar & split an appetizer (grilled octopus) & entree (mushroom risotto) both were excellent, as were the desserts (baklava & galaktoboureko). Our bartender Rocky, was very engaging & attentive. The wine list was fairly extensive, without being too high brow (which could be a double edge sword in this neighborhood). Only one true craft beer though, with no beers on tap. Never saw a cocktail menu on or near the bar. Would have liked to see more than just one steak ($48) entree. Other than that, we enjoyed our visit. Maybe they're still operating in the soft opening mode. I'd give them some time, I think they're an interesting change. After one fabulous restaurant family spent over 80 years on this spot, this is the third eatery here in five years. Hope they last a while. (Curious note: the heavy inner vestibule doors opened INTO the restaurant, rather than OUT. Thinking that's contrary to the national fire code. Just saying.) UPDATE Jan 2020: Looks like Lefkes may have a "foot-in-the-grave" after our most recent visit. Our company made reservations once again for our holiday party. Same room, same number of diners, mostly same menu. This time however, no valet out front, no hostess to promptly greet us, and virtually no diners in the bar area. Took a quick peek to see only 3 or 4 tables occupied in main dining room. Our room upstairs, was kind of chilly. It seemed forever to warm up after we complained. It also seem forever before we saw our appetizers. The wait staff were courteous but not very efficient, placing most of the dishes at one side of the oversize table. We passed the first batch out ourselves. The wine we requested did not show up until a few minutes prior to the main course. When it did, the lead waiter simply opened the first bottle and started pouring. When I asked to see it (as my boss had me select it) the waiter acted surprised and said: "It's okay, you'll like it." Then I reached for the bottle, which he was hesitant to reveal, and found it NOT WHAT I SELECTED. As I indicated this to the waiter, he actually said: "It's almost the same and a little less in price." As I studied the label I informed him that a Tempranillo is NOT at all like a Côtes du Rhône - which is what I ordered! I told him to stop pouring, but he ignored me an continued around the table. When he reached the opposite side of the table, my employer confronted him to request the wine we ordered. Only then was it revealed that they didn't have any. So why didn't he advise us of that in the first place? Very amateurish. And his kirt, obnoxious attitude wasn't appreciated. He should either be re-trained or find a different profession. And to be clear that this clown wasn't the only problem that evening, the food was very slow to arrive. The time between the first plate on the table and the last was nearly twenty minutes. Mine, though tasty, was fairly cold. Why didn't I complain you ask? Did you miss what we were up against? The evening was bad enough without me trying to send food back. But if I was paying, that issue too would have been addressed. Too bad for Lefkes. They just lost a few "regulars" and a group of "business dining" customers. Restaurant is beautiful. Red-head hostess was not friendly at all so as a first timer, I was a bit taken back. Food was great and ambience was lovely. Mimosas are made with freshly squeezed orange juice which was yummy! Waiter would not take my 2.5 year olds daughters order first (chicken fingers and fries) even after I explained I'd prefer she gets her food first so she can eat and be entertained. The excuse was they were so busy yet I saw plenty of open tables. Overall, I'd go back and give them a second try but was a bit disappointed with the customer service. read more

Beyond disappointed in this place. The food was so good, nothing to complain about there. That's why we chose to go there instead of Kyma. This is our second time trying lefkes, and I have to say the service is horrible. You know how many people we asked for drinks, bread and etc and they took so long to bring it or forgot and didn't at all. I get they stretch everything out on purpose for the party part of it but we were literally falling asleep, come on at least keep the bread and drinks coming. Also the DJ should start a lot earlier. Very disappointing and almost insulting ! We ordered "octopus" which we have high standard and yet, their way to prepared was not only "acceptable" to our palette but it was "offensive" It was not fresh (no wonder it was buried with heavy sauce to disguise the taste) and very poor quality. So we sent it back. And our waiter responded very defensively and unprofessionally. No apology or accommodation ! He took a revenge and sold us more than we wanted without our agreement. It took 15mins for a waiter to come over to take our order. The food is not too good except the ribeye. My mom's food had hair in her food that wasn't her's. The bathrooms were not to clean. But I will give the restaurant that they had pretty nice decor and a nice upper level but overall it was not a good experience. I woudn't recommend this business for your family meal. read more

Had a reservation this past Saturday night. First time trying the place. Got there place and place was half full at the time. And they seated us on the second floor in an EMPTY room. They Refused to move us down to main floor where all the excitement is. The manager and staff were rude a when we said we were dissatisfied with lack of customer service. They said we could just leave so we did. I don't spend money at establishments that don't respect customers. They may be popular now but in a fickle business and a location that has changed 5 times in 20 years they shouldn't be turning away business. I don't know how this place does it. I've been several times, and while there are regular staff, like the most awesome valet and bartenders, there also seems to be some turnover. Either way, each drink and dish is better or as good as the last. There are some really unique and healthy options which are great for going out but not cheating too bad. The Tuna Tartare, Vegetable Chips, hummus, and spicy shrimp are to die for. The DJ is great if you like to dance. He plays requests. The crowd is definitely a Bergen County social scene which I like. Maybe a tad older; but perfect for anyone willing to dance next to people born in the 70's or earlier. Lots of younger people as well, but mostly a slightly more mature crowd. But the music is great and the ownership seems to know as they quickly ask what kind of night you want to have before seating you. The outside patios, yes plural, are perfect for a more quiet brunch or evening, and the inside is ready for whatever you need for the evening. This is a worthy detour if you're not from the area but are looking for any kind of night life. It's up to you if you have a good night here, and the food will not disappoint. As soon as we paid the bill they started ripping the table cloths off the table while birthday cards, personal belongings, and birthday gifts were still placed on the table. Gifts and personal belongings were lost bc of the behavior of these servers. Very aggressive attitudes coming from the staff here. Went here for brunch on a sun. Waited at bar to be seated. Ordered a Bloody Mary spicy which the bartender totally disregarded. It came out quick so I'm thinking that they just have it premade. We sat in main dining area with a good amount of people but not full. Very noisy that day, would have been better to sit outside. Nice decor with nice outdoor dining area. We ordered eggs Benedict and Avocado toast which looked good. Food came out unusually quick. Wondering if they pre make and not made to order. We came here for the first time on Father's Day for outdoor dining. Excellent food! We had the Grilled Calamari with a Feta Cheese side sauce and a side of melted lemon. This was no frozen calamari! The chicken kabob was quality best. The side was choice of salt and peppered French fries or Greek Rice Pilaf. Delicious ! The atmosphere was soft dinner music, not too loud, deck sized and regular sized umbrella tables. The outdoor patio also had trees, including a lime tree! Very scenic dining. After having seen this location turn over several times, my husband and I anxiously awaited the restaurant that would finally stick to hopefully be able to establish a regular relationship as we live in an area that many are not privileged to be included in the upper echelon of exquisite dining. Lefkes has just added its name to our disappointed list. Several things: 1) No warm greeting, especially for a new restaurant, welcoming should be overdone. Our seating was awkward to say the least. 2) There was no cocktail menu, we feel as though a restaurant advertising itself as Lefkes did, should have at least a minimal cocktail list, even those that are considerably basic...anybody want a Cosmo, Margarita?... even made with mix? 3) Being a new restaurant, we didn't even get an introduction by a manager...wtf? He actually passed us about 30 times and never acknowledged our presence. Huge NO NO, on top of the establishment being DEAD 4) We happen to love oysters. Naturally, as per specific preference, we asked what the oysters of the day were. The response being "we have east and west coast". Realizing we were dealing with a naïve bartender, proceeding to ask what the names were...again were met with "well...west coast". Rule #1 of high end dining...oysters are the easiest sell, the burglary of dining...inform your staff of the names and description of the day. 5) We were given the check without asking, ironic enough as our "bartender" was super attentive to us leaving and rarely attentive to our stay throughout the meal. 6) Sadly, I have more poor things to say about the service than the food, which was actually quite good. In conclusion, if you are a patron that doesn't care about service, this might be your place. If you care about service for overpriced food, McDonald's might be the place for you, at least they say "Have a good day" when you leave. read more

I have to say that reading all these not very good reviews definitely left us all feeling some kind of a way before we even got there, and to say we almost cancelled the dinner here that we had been planning for months! I'm happy to report that it all couldn't have went any better! We arrived a few minutes early, got a drink at the bar, everyone was super friendly. They took us right up to our table when our last guest arrived and we had an amazing meal, staff was attentive and once the DJ got on it was a real party and everything we expected.
