This place used to be a great local establishment with good food and a good atmosphere. That was several years ago. On my most recent visit the service was atrocious. I'm talking about waiting for 1 hour for carryout and then having it still be wrong. Employees acting totally lackadaisical and unconcerned with angry patrons expressing dissatisfaction. A general lack of empathy or service. Food quality has greatly diminished as well. It's a damn shame. This was a nice local establishment and it's gone to crap. Avoid at all costs in my opinion. Somehow, it took me almost a month to find really solid BBQ in the Southern Maryland area, but I finally hit gold. Filled with the smell of hickory smoke, this little strip mall gem has some strange hours (you stop taking orders at 7:45 on weeknights? Really?), and the prices for some of their sides are on the high side (though portions are impressive, which does help), but there's no doubt that this is real, soulful, honest to god BBQ. I stopped in for lunch and got one of their lunch plate specials that provided me with 2 pieces of chicken (leg and thigh) and some ribs. I decided to go with sauce on, but you can ask for it on the side as well. Both were deliciously smoky with a nice savory rub blend, and the sweet sauce served as a great counterpoint. They also provided an orange slice, which confused me a bit until I tried squeezing a bit on the chicken. The acid sliced through the sauce and tied everything together nicely. The ribs were cooked perfectly - bite off the bone, not falling off overcooked, with a great smoke ring. I decided to go for collard greens (I disagree with someone mentioning it being too salty - I thought they were about right) and some fried okra that served as a perfect crispy counterpoint without being too greasy. If you're looking for real BBQ, not boiled ribs or chemically doped up imitations, this is the place to go. read more

I was on my way to Lexington Park and decided to take Route 5 down there. That was almost a completely horrible mistake, because the traffic was absolutely abysmal. It wasn't even caused by rush hour or by an accident... the Waldorf area is just incredibly congested, apparently. By the time I got to the 301/Route 5 split, I decided I needed some food. My bookmarks showed a barbecue place nearby... I couldn't say no. I just ordered my food to-go, but I think there's sit down service as well. I got the Carolina pulled pork sandwich. Although it's a bit on the higher side of prices, the serving they give you is really quite huge, especially with coleslaw on top. Their sauce has just the right amount of vinegary flavor to it. My only complaint is that the juices left the bottom bun practically falling apart by the end of it all. To wash it all down, I had a sweet tea, which was very sweet indeed. The service wasn't anything to write home about though. I'll definitely stop by here whenever I'm going to Southern MD, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here from my house. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch and it was very good! I ordered the rib and chicken platter to share with a friend. It was more than enough food to share, by the way! We ordered white meat chicken, ribs and for the sides we ordered the green beans and potato salad! The potato salad looks like a mess, but it had very good flavor! The green beans were very good and I didn't expect them to be! I thought they would be your average, run of the mill green beans that are overcooked and barely have any flavor. But they were the total opposite of that; very flavorful! To me the chicken was better than the ribs! The chicken had a very good smoke flavor and was flavorful and extremely tender! The ribs were alright. A little tough, but the other food made up for the ribs! The service was good. We ordered take-out and the young lady taking our order was a fast talker, but she slowed down when necessary! I told ya'll I'd be back. This time around I got the...I don't remember the name of the appetizer but it was shrimp with a boom boom sauce. Since my entree was grilled fish, I decided to get the fried shrimp but I'm sure it tastes good with the grill shrimp too. The shrimp had good flavor but the sauce is what really gave it that UMPH. I'm a dipper so I got my sauce on the side but you can get it on the shrimp as well. Speaking of sauce, I forgot to ask for the sauce on the side for the grilled salmon. I like the sauce. It taste good, I just didn't think it went well with the salmon. Maybe on chicken or beef but not fish in my opinion. As a result, I didn't eat all my salmon. I didn't realize until after the fact that I got the same exact sides as last time. If I would've known then I would've tried something different. The fried garlic cabbage was good like last time. However, the MNC was ok. I remember it being way better. Tastes like it was made with a powder or imitation cheese this time around. If that is the case then they need to go back to real deal. Tucked away, location a little hard to see from the road, decor just enough to feel welcome, seating is adequate but lots of folks carry out, it is obvious all their attention is on the food (as it should be). This would have been a five star, but NC pulled pork should have slaw on it, which I ordered and received in a separate container, but the slaw just wasn't all that. The BBQ was very good. The sides, especially the collard greens, fried okra, and mac'n cheese were exceptional. The baked beans were okay, but not as good as the other aforementioned sides that my date and I sampled. A little confusing when you walk in the door the first time, because you walk into where you'd order take-out, but there's no sign to indicate and when we stepped in, there was no one at the counter. Boy I sure was lucky to find Leftys BBQ while travelling 1.5 hours from home. Great service but most important over the top smoked delicisousness. I had chicken & ribs, perfectly dry rub flavored, hickory smoked and fire crisped. Be careful not to just lather BBQ sauce all over everything. The sauce is great and adds another layer of taste but you must eat this stuff naked at first to discover the depth of the low and slow taste cooked in deep. I suggest maybe alternating your bites with and without sauce. You don't often find the right combination of tender, moist, fully seasoned & smoke flavored all in one. Well several people had told me about Lefty's for awhile, but it's too far for me to travel just to get some food. Yesterday I had to go to Waldorf so I decided to stop at Lefty's on my way back home. I'm glad they let you taste the sides before you buy! I bought the Family Deal. The collard greens were salty. The Garlic Fried Cabbage was garlicky (no mistake there), but it was tasty and not as salty like the greens. I have to say though these greens are fresh, which is a rarity these days. I didn't like the Mac & Cheese ( I dont think it's baked). The BBQ sauce is really good (sweet, smoky, and spicy). I also ordered the NC Pork sandwich with coleslaw as a topping, but on the side (thank god). The sandwich would have been good if they gave me a bun that was fresh. My bun was moldy & stale. How disgusting, YUCK. I didnt notice until I had gotten home. And unfortunately, I live 40 mins away. This made my experience at Lefty's HORRIBLE! I can deal with salty greens, but moldy bread??? This was our second visit, we loved it the first time -service and food were great!! The second visit the service was not good, both visits were take out. I requested Cole slaw on both sandwiches and neither had it. The Onion Ringswere undercooked. I ask the cashier to have them either cooked longer or remade, he said I'll check to see if they can do it.. Sorry not the right answer. She was a lil preoccupied socializing with 2 other employees .... The cashier on our rest visit was amazing, I wish I had noted their names. I haven't tried the sandwich yet because I wanted to write this as I am a bit annoyed that after 5 hrs in a car I get home and go to heat up the sandwiches and find they're not as I requested... Stopped by yesterday with the family to try this place out. The place have an old southern, times are slower here feel to it and the service is very friendly but of course at a different pace than then the usual DC area. We tried their famous Crab cake $19.xx which was expensive but actually pretty good (densely packed with all jumbo Lump meat densely and deep fried to crispy outside, moist inside). Their baby back ribs were smoked, not barbecue so it was not falling off the bone tender like other barbeque places around here. It is served all chopped up into individual ribs, not the full slab style. We like it OK, but there other better ones in town and side roads. What we liked best were the side dishes of corn bread (mini-loaf nice and tender), sweet potatoes souffle, fried garlic cabbages and okras. The fried whitting also tasted good. Overall, a strange experience at a "famous" barbecue joint but we like the fried seafood and sides the best... Now we know to go to Lefty for these instead of barbecue... read more

I wanted to get my dad some barbecue for Father's Day. I placed an order on line with Lefty's. I asked the lady for a total for my order. She replied that they were too busy to give me the total so I assumed The price would have total at no more than $55 or $60 with tax according to their prices on line. I arrived at the restaurant only to hear that my order was $74.99. I was pissed off because all I was thinking is what if I had only bought $60 with me to pick up my order. When I said something yo the lady at the register all she said was "oh yeah they are aware that the prices on line need to be changed ". Spoke to the manager and that was all that she would say . I love me some good BBQ and this is hands down the best in the DMV area!!! I only wish it were closer. It's located in a small strip mall and pretty easy to miss. I've been here twice and both times the tea was sweet, the ribs were perfectly cooked, the sauce was tasty, and the sides were extremely delicious. Interior was clean and inviting with just a few customers. We waited 35 min for 2 platter meals. The mashed potatoes were cold and beef brisket was cut soo thin and was dry and tough as leather. I disnt eat most of the meat and lwft the bun. I complained to 2 different servers. I received the check with the meal still on it for $17. I waited another 10 min before the manager only removed 10% off the platter that wasn't edible. It was extremely disappointing and will be going to Dickeys next time. read more

I'd been dying for a good pulled pork sandwich so after a quick look on Yelp, we stopped by Lefty's BBQ. After looking over the menu, my partner wasn't sure if she wanted the Lefty's Signature Ribs or the Baby Back Ribs so the server brought out a sample of both. The rack of Baby Back Ribs was what she was more used to so she picked those. The bad thing was that they ended up being really dry on the ends - like inedible. But the thicker parts were good and she'd be willing to go back and try the Signature Ribs next time. I got the North Carolina Style BBQ sandwich. It says it's for spicy lovers but I didn't get any spiciness from it. The vinegar bath on the pork was awesome but it turned the bun to mush. The port was then also topped with the sweet BBQ sauce so I just turned it upside down and ate the sloppy bun and all. I went through a pile of napkins and enjoyed every bit of it. The sides were spot on - the sandwich comes with a tiny cup of coleslaw (or topped on the sandwich - I think I'd get it on the sandwich next time because maybe I'd get a bit more - it was a tiny bit in a little cup. I don't usually get it on because I don't want it to make the sandwich soggy but since it already is, maybe it'd be ok and I'd just eat it with a fork next time) and two sides so I got the collards which were bring the house down good and potato salad which was decent (potatoes could've been cooked a bit more). My partner got the mac n cheese which was homemade and good. The cornbread was dry so we probably wouldn't get that again. Our server was on point and super nice. And we sat on the same side of the booth so we could watch football at the bar and at no time did we feel uncomfortable which was really nice that we were able to enjoy our meal without worrying about being discriminated against. Second time here and still displeased. I won't return or recommend them. There were several in my party and a few got the same thing with one being for a child. They were all different from presentation to taste. My order of chicken, dark meat, leg & thigh was dry, the green beans were too spicy ( don't order if you have to monitor your salt intake) and garlic mash potatoes ( the best thing in my order). When it was mentioned that one of the orders was for a child was told we should have said something. I don't know what else to say when it was clear that she was the smallest person at the table and we asked about the kid's menu. I agree the customer service is horrible but it goes with the food. Pissed right now. Drove from DC to get a slab of baby back ribs and moms side (4 sides of your choice and corn bread) husband arrived home with 2 side and corn bread. I am pissed. I wanted my potatoes salad and Mac and cheese so bad, then when I call be report the oversight they were only willing to give me a order of the sides SMH. I did say I came from dc. This was my first time dining in the restaurant and if service is like what I received yesterday on a regular basis it will certainly be my last time. It took awhile to be acknowledged my our server, Lotus. She took our drink orders afterwards she inquired if we we ready to order and my party and I informed her that we needed a few more minutes. Lotus did not return to see if we were ready but a very nice young lady with dreadlocks asked had we been helped and she took our orders. It took a very long time to receive our order and when they arrived the food was not very hot so I can only imagine that our serve did not check in our food at it just sat under a heat lamp as she was doing whatever it was that prevented her from providing great customer service. I ordered the sandwich platter which came with two sides. I ordered the BBQ sandwich, baked beans and onion rings. Again, they were cold and the 5 small onion rings were over cooked and very greasy. Trying to get passed the appearance I tried one and all I could taste was oil. I waved down Loris and informed her of my displeasure. She went in the back and told the cook and I guess that my telling her what was wrong was not enough but, the cook wanted the oily over cooked rings...lol. I happily obliged in hopes that the cook would come out and apologize, since I was informed that they had to see the problem. I wasn't like they were in the weeds or anything... it wasn't busy at all. Everyone working were busy indulging in personal conversations. I will say that the young man working the register was very professional and pleasant as well. I saved room for dessert only to be told that the bread pudding that is on the menu is only available on the weekend...wait...what? (For the record that's not stated on the menu!). I really wanted to enjoy this experience but it was an epic fail! The person I was with stated that his meal was pretty good but he will NOT return just based on the poor service. Did I mention this was his first time coming to the restaurant? Not that we were asked by our server had we been there before!!! She never even asked if we would like more to drink or anything. This was my third time coming to this restaurant but my first time dining in and it will certainly be my last, especially is I see Lotus is working. She is much to busy to deal with her customers in a virtually empty restaurant for me. I really need to learn to make my own BBQ no need to pay $14.00 for cold food. I sent the greasy onion rings back and I had to ask Lotus about the replacement sidewinder fries AFTER she brought out the bill. They also were cold after they sat there forever. The server told me that the cook was allowing them to "drain" because they were cooked in the same grease as the burned onion rings. Smh! Needless to say I left the ice fries in the cold plate they were served to me in. Did I mention this meal was an epic fail!!?? read more
