I had to be in La Plata, and asked around for the best place to grab some food. Everyone I asked said T&J BBQ! When I arrived, I placed my order at the pickup window. About a minute later, my name was being called for my order. I got the half rib and chicken combo. I went back to my car and took a few bites... wow! It was so good and flavorful, even without barbecue sauce. I got back out to take a few photos and saw cake on the menu. I decided to try the strawberry lemon and the sweet potato, both were really good! The customer service was 10/10. The staff was super friendly and engaged in a little conversation with me. There is plenty of parking, and am area with picnic tables where you can sit and eat. read more

I've been here a few times and definitely love it. This is the first pork chop that I ever liked and the best green beans I've ever had. The mac & cheese is a little bit inconsistent, I've liked it sometimes and other times it didn't taste that great more like buttered noodles. But their meat is always excellent. read more

Delicious ribs, chicken, and side salads (coleslaw and potato salad). My favorite were the ribs and coleslaw. The ribs were tender and had some fat on them, just how I like them. I also liked the coleslaw a lot. It wasn't bland and it was creamy unlike at other places. I'd give those two items five stars. I also tried the minced pork and thought it was average, but I didn't eat it with any sauce and that could have made a difference. Glad I don't live close by because I would be getting the ribs and coleslaw weekly and go broke. When my husband and I see our friends, I will definitely be asking to stop by here. T & J Barbecue has been my favorite BBQ place for 20 plus years. I used to eat here regularly when it was run by the first generation, then I moved out of county. Many BBQ places have good food, but T & J BBQ has the best flavor around the DMV. Today, I was driving out of Charles County, about to pass another popular BBQ place in Hughesville, when I thought to myself, this place I'm about to pass is good, but I'm in the mood for the best BBQ. So I pulled over and looked up T& J Barbecue online and discovered they are still in business and they were OPEN. Without hesitation, I drove from Hughesville, to LaPLata, just to see if T & J BBQ was as good as I remembered. I ordered the half rib/half chicken meal with mild sauce, and a minced Pork sandwich. The flavor was delicious just as I hoped it would still be, and the sauce is the best too. They give you some white bread to sop up the extra sauce too. Pure heaven. I ate half my meal in the parking lot, then went back to the counter to purchase another sauce and a beverage. They are not stingy with the sauce, I just wanted more for home use. I could actually survive on a half a loaf of bread and that sauce if I had to. Thanks for another great BBQ meal. It was worth the drive out of my way to get the best BBQ. read more

Listen , I'm so mad I'm just finding about this place and I've lived in Charles County for 5years . So I got there on a Sunday at 4:30 , never do that again. They're only open on weekends but the kind cashier told me to call ahead so I would be able to get everything I wanted. I got the ribs and chicken... amazing!!! And the chopped beef, so Good !! The sides I was able to try Potato Salad,Green Beans. Both really good. I wish they served larger sizes (they only serve 1 size) . When you go I recommend to get the sauce on the size. The sauce is really good !! I have no complaints other than them running out but it's completely understandable. I plan to hit the place up again tomorrow, I can take my husband! Last time I came here was over 20 yrs ago. So I didn't even think this place still existed. Until I searched yelp for best bbq places. And T&J popped up I couldn't believe it. So I said let's go check ''em out to see if it's the same place and there it was same place. I ordered 2 half rack of rib dinners with greens and potato salad 19.99 not included was the sides which I didn't know until I paid. But it was sooooo worth it. Ribs were so good tender and tasty and all of them full of meat. Sauce was good sweet n vinegar taste good tho. Potato salad was ok. But the greens were so good perfectly cooked with meat added. I was brought here by a co-worker saying how good it is. I come from a BBQ city, so I'm always skeptical about trying a new one. As far as the sandwich, they use minced pork. I've never experienced that before, and won't again. Definitely not my favorite. My friend had the chicken, and it was not bad. It's a shame they don't have a spicy BBQ sauce, but the sauce they do have is good. I want to come back and try their ribs, and I will update this review when I have. I'm not a big fan of BBQ joints but this out-of-the-way carry-out joint rivals a Memphis BBQ! The ribs are so fall off the bone tender and meaty with a subtle smoky flavor. The chicken is juicy and plump. And the potato salad...creamy and smooth and oh so yummy! This is strictly carry-out however there are picnic tables provided under a shady clump of trees in a park-like setting. I highly recommend this place! read more

A review for this place is way overdue, the bbq is so awesome u will need a lemon to bring ur jaw back to normal. The jewel of the DMV area this place is far better than Johnny boys or Leftys (sic). It is in charles county so its a hike for most people but absolutely worth the trip. The ribs are lip smacking good, chicken grilled just right, and the sauce immaculate. They do have other items on their menu but those are the main attractions. I suggest getting the sauce on the side so u can use it later on other stuff. For example, got some veggies at home that aren't tasting right just dip that sauce on it, u have some tofu that needs a kick drizzle some of that sauce on it and wa la magic. T n Js is an outdoor rib shack so don't expect any fancy presentation just food in Styrofoam with some bread. Really I think that's all u need. One last tip, hours are kinda iffy but the best times to go are early on the weekends before they run out which is common to happen. read more

When I told them it was my 1st time, I was offered 2 complimentary samples of ribs. DELICIOUS... so tender. The ribs are definitely the main attraction.
