I hadn't been to Lefty's in probably 15 years. We just always forgot it was there. I think they were closed for awhile due to a kitchen fire or something like that. My husband and I went the other night and we were very impressed. I loved the restaurant set up and decor. There was plenty of seating...booths and tables for larger parties. There was a bar in the back. They had TV's throughout the restaurant. Our waiter was so pleasant and attentive. We started with hush puppies as our appetizer. They were standard and very good but nothing over the top. The sweet tea was delicious! I love that they served the drinks in big glasses. I never even needed a refill! I got the classic pulled pork and thought it was very good. It was a little spicier than I'm used to for pulled pork but still very good. The cole slaw was the perfect compliment to it. I also got a baked potato and that was delicious!!! My husband for the BBQ chicken. It was not pulled chicken like we are used to. It was more chopped up chunks of white and dark meat. My husband thought it was okay. He prefers pulled chicken better. He got the cabbage as a side and he absolutely loved it! He kept raving about it. This was our first time visiting Lefty's. We went on a Saturday afternoon sat down and was greeted by the best waitress ever! I believe her name was AJ. She took our drink orders and gave us some time to look over the menu. When she returned she answered questions we had about the menu and took our order. For our appetizer we ordered grilled Boom Boom Shrimp which is similar to Bonefish's Bang Bang Shrimp but better. For my entree, I ordered the fried fish (whiting) platter which comes with two sides. I had collard greens and macaroni and cheese. Hub had the North Carolina Pork Sandwich that also comes with two sides. He also had the collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The fish was seasoned and fried to perfection, and the portion was bigger than I expected. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good and the greens were damn good! Hub said his sandwich was very tasty and that he loved the collard greens as well. Although I was stuffed, I ordered the Grilled Strawberry Pound Cake and had it all to myself because hub was stuffed too and just couldn't do it. Disappointed. I tried the fried ribs and they were horrible. Very hard inside and outside. The meat flavor was off. You need to braise ribs before frying them to get them tender! They were expensive and I didn't feel like driving back, so I guess that was money wasted. The sides were ok, but I was so disgusted by the ribs, I couldn't add another star on here. read more

Dinning in at this restaurant was very good. I really enjoyed the sides (sweet potato soufflé, mac and cheese, cabbage, hush puppies, cornbread, bread pudding and collard greens) The fried fish her was my favorite meat. The breading was on point and cooked hard! The bbq sandwich was good but i wish it had less vinegar. The pork ribs were tasty as well and tender. We chose Lefty's to cater our wedding 9/30/23 and from the get-go we were told by all the other vendors that we chose well. That was the first good sign! Then, our tasting was amazing. We felt welcomed and they let us try whatever we wanted to try-- and all of it was fantastic. We came by again a few weeks before the wedding to review final details, and had lunch while there-- I had BBQ chicken sandwich and my husband had the fried catfish. It was as amazing as we had remembered. At the wedding there were no concerns or hiccups, everything was timely and as expected. Our reception planners also stated they love working with that team. Our guests as they walked by our sweetheart table on the day of gave us huge thumbs up for how great the food looked, and everyone commented on how great it tasted after!! We had plenty of food, the service was wonderful, and as a bonus we get leftovers that we are actually excited about. We literally bought a $200 chest freezer the day after our wedding to make sure we could keep ALL our leftovers since we had to leave for our honeymoon. Lefts has catered several events for my employer and my colleagues ALWAYS rave about the food and catering staff service. Lefty's food is phenomenal! They never disappoint. The fried fish is better than any fish I've ever had and at every event, I always request fried fish. Today I decided to stop by their restaurant since they're in the area. I usually don't deviate from my usual fish and a side but I was feeling adventurous and ordered the Crab and Spinach dip. Lord have mercy!! I made sweet love to that food and it didn't even make it to my house. I devoured it in the parking lot. The dip had a smoky taste to it that I absolutely loved and it came with kettle chips and bread sticks. I know that I moaned at least once and I'm not ashamed. We were just passing through town....looking for a BBQ restaurant, and ended up at Lefty's. It was a great find. Absolutely delicious.

So, we came across Lefty's late on a Sunday afternoon. We are getting ready to move to the area and we're in town just looking around and decided to pop in and check them out. We didn't pay attention to the door hours, cuz there were several people parked outside and others inside waiting for their food. Little did we know, it was 5:40pm and they close at 6pm. The staff was so great, especially the manager who not only let us order beers from the bar while we waited, but also let us get a last-minute order in. They didn't have to do that at all and just for that, we were truly grateful. We had the ribs platter along with cabbage, slaw, greens and beans.....it was great!!! Once we truly get settled in the county, we'll be back, if only to say 'thank you' for the hospitality. We look forward to our move to Charles County and hope to be regulars at Lefty's. read more

I've eaten here numerous of times since 1990 (before the dinning in side and the white Bose speakers) and within the last 3-4 years the food is not what it use to be. I've even used their catering service and recommended them to others. Staff was very friendly however service is extremely slow. I went during the middle of the afternoon 3pm on a weekday. Preordered my meal on website and still had to wait 20 minutes. The dine in side only had 2 people who had already eaten and I was the only other customer in the establishment. The fried spicy chicken thighs were very salty and greasy . Ribs are well seasoned and meaty, but some were over charred on the top. The fried catfish was over cooked and also salty. Mac and Cheese requires immediate attention as it was bland and a film of oil was present . All the other veggies sides were ok at best Due to my history with them I will return, however it will be awhile in hopes of much needed improvement. Should my next meal be a repeat of this experience I will not waste my time (slow service) or money. Come On Man!!! Lefty's use to be the bar in which all others where measured. read more

I had ribs and mashed potatoes...and Let's just say this place was hiding from me....I work at an Urgent care and myself along with my coworkers ordered lunch....In UrgentCare you either eat on a fly by or dont!! I believe his name was Solomon. He really goes out of his way to provide outstanding customer service. After ordering, the wait was about 20-25 minutes, but it's worth it. After all, this isn't a fast food restaurant. You can call in your order so that it's ready when you arrive. Food: I ended up ordering some ribs, mac n cheese, and cornbread. The ribs were good and tender! They fell right off the bone. The mac and cheese was just average. If you're looking for the gooey, baked type of mac n cheese, this isn't it. It reminds me more-so of stovetop mac n cheese. Now... it might sound crazy, but my favorite item was the cornbread! It was sooo soft and it was piping hot. I personally like my cornbread to have some sweetness to it, which their's definitely does. Don't forget to wash everything down with a half and half! The batter was crispy and flavorful. The garlic cabbage was so good that I would go back just to order that. We ordered take out. The wait was pretty long for the food thus the three stars. We were quoted 20-25 minutes and it took about 40 minutes. I wonder if it takes that long if I would have dined it.
