Lefty's is a Southern Maryland landmark. I've been going there for years even after I moved to Virginia, it's that good. The BBQ is hands down the best in Southern Maryland. I'm such a fan that I hired them to cater my wedding and yet again I wasn't disappointed. The manager was super sweet and catered to our every needs. They were on time, reasonably priced, had a really awesome set up and my guests couldn't get enough. To this day I still have guests who rave about the food. I highly recommend visiting Lefty's for lunch or dinner and hiring them for your special event. read more

I was only in town for 48 hours and managed to hit this spot twice! The 1st time I got the catfish platter with green beans, potato salad and baked beans. This is definitely soul food. Took one star off because I only stayed around the corner and by the time I got home the two hot sides were cold. But the catfish was fried to order and is probably some of the freshest fried fish I've ever had. The baked beans were good but again they would have been better hot. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad because I prefer it my potatoes softer and they were a little too hard. The green beans were salty as hell! so I didn't care for them too much. The next trip I got the ribs platter with mac n cheese, collard greens and sweet potato souffle. The ribs were good but I haven't had a chance to eat the sides yet... Wow! The brisket is sliced and then grilled before they pile it on a soft bun. It tasted as good as prime rib, tender, juicy and loaded with flavor. We also tried the pork, and the peppery kick was great. Didn't even need sauce, but when I added some it was very good. Mac 'n cheese.....as good as my dear mother's. Greens....sweet and hot at the same time, just great. The sweet potato casserole has mini marshmallows and spices and tasted like pumpkin pie. I'd come back just for the beef, I'd come back just for the sides. The folks are friendly and everybody hustled. The sound of the flying knife chopping the pork can wake the dead, but the whole experience was worth the trip. I noticed little loaves of corn bread, gotta try that next trip. Lefties hit the spot, basically, although I think they need to work on their side orders. The chicken and ribs were both prepared perfectly but the macaroni and cheese and other sides were just OK. I know they just reopened after being closed due to a fire so I will try them again in a couple of months to give them the benefit of the doubt. I went back and forth on whether to give it four or three stars but it is really more like 3 1/2 stars. LOL read more

I walked in Lefty's at 5:45pm after picking up my daughter from the hair salon next door. I waited in a long line to place my order. I placed my order at 6:07pm. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and kids chicken bites. They young lady that took my order seemed nice. It appears they may need help with time management. I walked back to my car to wait for my order as it was a few people ahead of me. I came back in the restaurant at 6:20pm. Two other people walked in with me. The lady that took my order stated if you have not already ordered we are closed. I had my receipt in my hand and walked up to the counter. The folks walked out after the young lady stated they were closed. I asked was my order ready yet she stated No. I asked her if I could order a peach cobbler she said, No as we are closed. To me as a good business you should have made an exception as I had already ordered or given it to me for free as I was not asking for a platter just a dessert. I was the last to receive my food at 6:40pm. The kids chicken bites portion is a bit too much, not sure what kid they are serving plus it doesn't come with a side. Not sure If I will be back as the wait is too long and never heard a soul food restaurant closing before 9pm. read more

So heres my theory, if you call in a to go order they just dont start making it until you get there to make sure you are going to pay. Instead, you get there in the 25 min suggested cooking time and you wait in line, then pay and wait another 20-30 min more. The first time I came here I ordered to go also and I was soooooo mad the wait was 1 hour from the 30 min cook time but the FOOD.... so I tried again hoping the wait time was just a fluke. Tried again and no absolutely not. The first time I came here I spent around 120-130 for 4 meals the second time I spent 60-70 on 4 fish platters. I will take my money elsewhere. The food at Lefty's is good. However, the wait time is unacceptable. I've come in and had to wait over 40 minuted each time for my food. As a direct result, I have returned to work late. The blatant disregard of my time is the reason I won't be returning to make any future purchases. I called my order in and was told it should be ready in 20-30 mins. I arrived 30 mins later and my food wasn't even ready. The restaurant expects you to pay upon arrival and wait for your order. When an order is called in the most a patron should need to wait is a few minutes. I only ordered fish tacos and macaroni and cheese. I'm assuming that the wait for the macaroni and cheese because the container is hot but my fish tacos are soggy like they've been sitting. The macaroni noodles are not coated fully like it was thrown in the container with no regard to the customer. read more

'Twas Good Friday and all throughout my timeline were fried fish plates galore. A craving for some fresh and hot fried whiting took over and ended up being only temporarily subdued by some mediocre fried cod and fries from Founders Tavern and Grill of Pasadena. Having enjoyed Founders' delicious fried chicken a few times, I assumed their fish and chips would be equally as satisfying. It was not good, on this Good Friday :( While I typically try not to indulge in back to back deep fried treats and eats, I needed to address the whiting craving from the day before and didn't feel like frying up my own fish at home. Youngest sister and I ended up at Lefty's. Baaaaabbyyyyy!!!!! Lefty's got our spirits oooohhhh, so right. We arrived close to closing time on Saturday night, not really anticipating having our socks knocked off. Today we are barefoot and still looking for our socks. There was a pleasant young man taking orders at the front counter and he quickly took our carry out orders while making a little light conversation and a few jokes with us. He was very warm and friendly and set our expectations for a 15-20 minute wait before we sat down. There is a dining room for people to eat in the restaurant, but we only wanted to grab take out and go. After about a 15 minute wait, we received our food. The young lady that brought it from the back took the time to thoroughly review our orders for accuracy prior to us leaving. She made sure we even had ample condiments and that everything was to our liking. When we arrived home and dug into our food, there were at least 7-10 minutes of no talking and just lip smacking devouring. Steester loooooved her fried catfish and garlic fried cabbage but said that she could have passed on the mashed sweet potatoes or yams because they tasted powdered or canned. My fried whiting was thee best!!!!! It tasted like something we made at home and was sooooo perfectly golden fried and well seasoned. That batter was the bomb and I could not stop licking my fingers with the hot crunchy goodness. This could have gone without hot sauce or tartar sauce but when I added a little of each, I was seriously rolling my eyes back in my head and humming with every bite. The mac and cheese was really good and a sprinkle of salt and pepper made it perfect like a good southern family style recipe your grandma might make. I fry my cabbage with turkey bacon because I don't eat pork but I never knew how much I could possibly enjoy a meatless fried version. If you are a fan of garlic, you won't want to miss the garlic fried cabbage but keep in mind the garlic is potent. I love garlic so the entire plate was blissful for me. We also enjoyed the hush puppies and the portions were so generous, we had plenty of leftovers. Lefty's is gonna be my new spot for good fried fish. Not impressed especially for such a famous BBQ location that has been in the area for decades. Ate lunch here around 1:30 pm and ordered the brisket sandwich with collard greens and green beans. The meat which should have been the star of the show was sliced paper thin and was tough as beef jerky. Now if I had to guess I was served brisket a few days old and was placed on a toasted bun with BBQ sauce on it. Since the strips of beef were thin, dry, and tough as leather eating it like a sandwich was not an option. I took the meat off the bun and gnawed away. Smoky flavor was there alright but that succulent, juicy, tender goodness you expect from brisket had left the meat days ago. Not cool. I'm a fan of collard greens but these bad boys we're lacking the ham bits and we're salty as the Dead Sea. Green beans were great but again salty. Everything had a mild heat on it that kind of numbed the buds and detracted from the goodness of the meat and vegetables. I wanted to love this place but came away feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. I've eaten BBQ from Texas, Nevada, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, Maryland, and both Carolinas and I know good BBQ when I eat it. This was lacking freshness and love. The kind of love you can taste like down home. Time for someone to set some standards and shake things up over there or risk fading into obscurity. Visited here last week with my family! First off, before we get started i just have to say the sweet potatoes are on the MONEY YALL!! OMG! The best I had in my entire life sheesh! Now on to the rest, LEFTYS is located in a shopping district so parking can be a little hard to get on the weekends. Do not let that deter you because trust me the food and prices are worth it!!!! I had the salmon with sweet potatoes and mac and cheese! The Mac and cheese was really good also! I also tried a drink recommended by the waiter and boy was it strong whew!! My family had the bbq ribs which were also good. The restaurant has an option to dine in or takeout. My suggestion go with your family and dine in! you will love it! read more

Word of mouth bought us to this nice dine in establishment. With a bar. Although, Covid 19 is among us. Lefty's is popping out some fantastic meals at a decent price. I like the social distancing inside. A clean environment. Parking can be a mess, if this place is running at normal operating conditions. The wait time for a fresh cooked meal was about 15 minutes. Um do I order here? Yes. Give me a couple minutes. WTF are you doing with the computer register, you are just looking at it and doing nothing? Finally I give my order. 1 rack, 1lb brisket, small mac & cheese, large lemoniced = $56 w tip. Look at receipt, no drink, rack over priced than what is on the big ass menu above. Ok, whatevs. After 15 min, my orders ready, get home and no bbq sauce anywhere. You want sauce on it or on the side? Side I said. NO BBQ Sauce! $56 i might as well go to Arbys! Anytime I want BBQ, nothing but Lefty's will do. It's hard to stray from the sweet tea, but they even serve cocktails, too. A side of mac and cheese is sure to please, but the sweet potato soufflé always makes my day. DC is full of great restaurants, for sure, but BBQ from a strip mall is the best cure. read more

This rating is based on customer service only. I placed a recent order which was given a pick up time of 4:15. My husband arrived early against my advice because I've already experienced the useless waste of time in arriving early at Lefty's. This time we ended up waiting an hour and 30 minutes for an order that had been placed and paid for. No matter how good the food may have been,the complete disrespect for customer's time is excusable. It's obvious the management really does not care, nor do they prioritize timely and efficient service, so I've decided the last time will be the last time for me. Lefty's is not the only bbq place in Charles County and its really too bad they seem to not be bothered by losing business to competitors, simply because of their lack of acceptable service. Once upon a time, the fried fish was delicious & the North Carolina BBQ was on point. My husband & I went there after a trip b/c aI was craving the bbq. Unfortunately, his fish looked & tasted re-heated & my bbq had either too much salt or too much vinegar. Either way, that first bite tasted like I ate a teaspoon of salt. It was too close to closing to take the food back & have it remade. My husband sent a complaint that we were not satisfied with our food. Instead of being met with great customer service, my husband was sent an email days later saying we could either provide them with a pic of the food or bring the food back and we were offered a 20% discount on our next order. In any event, my husband expressed that it was not possible as we disposed of the food. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the rep's reply & to that was told that we could get the fish replaced & I could order a different sandwich. I think that Lefty's has extremely poor service recovery & I don't know about my husband, but they don't have to worry about me patronizing them again. We work too hard to spend our hard earned money on some place that has inconsistent food & then want to debate with you or challenge you when you are unhappy with what was provided. Service recovery is apologizing on behalf of the establishment as their representative and either offering to replace the meal courtesy of the establishment OR refund our money because your goal is always to provide quality food & service so your customers will want to return, even after a not so satisfying experience. Also, as representatives or leadership,they should think about how they want to be treated as paying customers at an establishment. There is nothing but truth in the saying..."treat others as you would want to be treated." Who wants to waste money on food that they are unhappy with & then be made to feel like you as the customer are wrong & insignificant...raise your hand. This post may seem extra, but this is the second time in the past few weeks that an eating establishment has done this in Waldorf. Not only did she accommodate us by going above and beyond by providing us with a corrected order, but she also provided us with a gift card for the inconvenience! This food was beyond amazing!!! If you haven't tried Lefty's you need to! We started with the homemade potato chips. They came out warm, crispy and lightly seasoned. We asked for ranch for dipping and I added hot sauce. I ate so many chips I thought I wouldn't be able to eat my meal. I had the rib platter. The ribs were smoked to perfection and seasoned just right. The ribs didn't need any sauce for flavor or moisture, but I did get bbq sauce on the side. The sauce was equally delicious, tangy and just the right amount of sweet. It was a great compliment to the smoked meat. My mom added a side of whiting to her ribs, so I had to taste it. The fried fish was crispy and moist. Lefty's signature breading did not disappoint, giving the fish great flavor without being salty. Pro tip-you add a side of whiting, you get one piece for $2.99, order a half pound (about 4 pieces) for around $5 to give multiple people the fish add-on. The sides were also a high point. I had mac and cheese and fried garlic cabbage. We ordered a large potato salad for the table. The stars were definitely the cabbage and potato salad. The cabbage wasn't soggy and the flavor was impeccable. The potato salad was the balance of tangy from the mustard and sweet from the relish; definitely the best potato salad I have ever had in a restaurant. The service was as good as the food. Octavia took amazing care of us and was super kind to my 10 year old godson. She was attentive and got all of the details right. She was super patient with us while we struggled to choose from all the delicious sounding menu options and gave us recommendations. The manager also checked in with us. We mentioned that it was our first time eating at restaurant, although we had used the at-home breader to make fish and chicken in our own kitchen. The manger asked us if we would give our opinion on a new breader mix and fried up a free batch of fish so we could taste test the at-home fish and chicken breader.
