Ugh... this place is run by a hotel group and it's pretty clear that their financial interests are not vested in this place. Every time we've come here, our experience has been less than underwhelming. 1) they always have one bartender working, even on Fridays and Saturdays, meaning you'll often wait 20+ minutes to get an order in. Well often skip coming here because the wait to place an order is daunting. Staffing is a pretty easy issue to fix and this has been a persistent complaint here. This place could literally double their profits by adding on one extra bar tender during the weekend and other busy times therefore cutting down the line and time to place an order. 2) their staff picks and chooses what issues to nitpick. They don't care that groups are usually less that a foot part while waiting the 20+ minutes to place a drink from the one bar tender running the show. They will however yell at you if you have four people at what they consider to be a three top. 3) everything but the fries are kind of gross here. The sign advertises the wings and frozen marg as their house picks but these may be some of the worst in town. The wings are soggy and the marg is saccharine sweet. read more

I haven't ventured out much lately but I'm so glad I stopped in Lefty's for a quick drink. I was super impressed with their staff, drinks, and protocols surrounding keeping people safe and distanced. And the outdoor patio is perfect as the weather cools down. Rob recommended a couple of his favorite drinks like his pirate's punch and the cosmic butterfly... which are now my favorite drinks! Came to Lefty's Brick Bar with two male friends post-dinner for a drink. It's a pretty cool vibe outside/inside with picnic tables and a big bar. It was a bit chilly at the beginning of March and I was super happy that there were heat lamps everywhere. The bar was busy so it took a little bit to wiggle in and get us some drinks. We had some cidars, a beer, and one of my friends had a standard mixed cocktail. All were good and we grabbed a seat under a heat lamp to get cozy. There was a huge section in the back that I didn't realize was even there until we sat. Interestingly, every man in this bar was wearing a plaid or flannel shirt. It was super odd. read more

We could beraly get any meat from them and on top of that, the celery sticks were super small and skinny... After eating dinner across the street, we decided to pop into this bar strictly for the fact that it's called Lefty's and I'm left-handed. We ordered a couple drinks at the bar and enjoyed hanging out under the heaters near the bar. Super cute amd really nice touch that they offer bar blankets! This place is not good. The most poorly designed yet basic use of space I have seen on the East Side. It looks SO cool from the outside, and a fun name to it as well. The food is average (everyone who goes here is drunk and ready to vent about the East Side cuisine so that's why I think there is so much hype around it). The worst part is ordering drinks. Why is it consistently so painful if you have to order a drink on a Saturday afternoon. I have never seen more than one bartender serve here. They are usually extremely stand offish.. every time the bartenders talk, I feel like they hate doing so.. It's probably because there is that one bartender who is always busy. Like finally you order a drink after 15 minutes in line and what a buzz kill they are. God forbid you ask the bartender what they recommend. Anyway, people don't go here first. They stumble across it after someone who hasn't spent much time in East Austin suggests going to Whislers or Lazarus and are keen for a bar hopping session on the East Side. Last bit, one time I got in line almost 20 minutes before "happy" hour ended. Someone who seemed like a manager came out of nowhere and told me that I will not be able to order on HH as it ends with the person in front of me. I say skip it. Go to Volstead or Lucky Duck. Those places are authentic Austin to me. read more

It was an accident stumbling into this place since I was doing a photoshoot around the area I decided to stop by with my friend to try out the new place. They have lots of seating when you walk inside. I choose 3 stars because my sandwich looked good but the bread was hard, also I didn't like that they don't have straws for their cocktails so I had to drink from the glass with my lipgloss all over the rim. Nice new bar on East Sixth Street with a lot of outdoor space. Lots of big tables on the patio out back, perfect for groups. The cocktail menu features Austin classics (old fashioned) and Hawaii-inspired tropical pineapple concoctions. There is a decent range of wine, and beer on tap. Lefty's has a food menu, serving a combination of snacky things and bahn mi. I tried the crawfish rice paper rolls. These were fresh and tasty, great for a bit summer night. read more

It's thanksgiving weekend and I'm with family. We needed to kill half an hour while we waited on a family member. Since we were nearby, We come to have one beer before we go to our destination. There are zero people here, just me, my brother, his girlfriend and my one year old. The baby needed changing so I told my brother to order us something and that I'd be back. And I went to took care of business. They didn't have changing tables but I know how to be prepared and I had a mat and changed her on the floor in the bathroom. As I walk out my brother says "hey everything okay?" It took me a bit longer to change her but no big deal. So I reponded, "yeah. I changed her on the floor so it took a while longer." Then this bartender who is 100% not part of this conversation wanted to exercise whatever lack of tact she had by saying, "yeah because it's a bar." Yeah, no s**t. Like we didn't know when we walked in. To which I wanted to say, "yea, I must have stopped being a human when I gave birth." Keep your snide comments to yourself. It's 11:45 am. There's no one here. I came prepared. We bought your beers. The baby didn't so much as speak the entire time. I respect your choices. Ignore mine. Parents, just go to Lazarus. This place is a gem! I came to Lefty's to meet a friend for happy hour after work. We purchased a mixed drink and a glass of wine to start. The bartender was very friendly and helpful with our cocktails. We nestled in near a heat lamp. The entire place is pretty outdoors, aside from a small area near the bar. We enjoyed the ambiance here. We ordered a few more rounds of drinks, along with two slices of pepperoni pizza, wings, and fries. It's clutch that they sell pizza by the slice, and I think $5 a slice is really reasonable considering the area it's in, as well as the quality of the pizza. The wings were excellent, too, and the fries were crispy and seasoned wonderfully. We really enjoyed our night there. Definitely a dog friendly spot, so bring Fido! read more

Lefty's is a "chill swanky" or "bougie dive" type bar. Nice atmosphere especially if the weather is right. It's owned by the same people who own Vixens Wedding next door. The drinks were pretty good. I liked how the boudin was fried, normal boudin casing has a weird texture to me. It was also very Austiny because it was made with brisket instead of normal sausage. I'd recommend even if it is a just tad salty. Very dog friendly and there's an upstairs balcony you can go to as well and the bartenders were really cool, although since it's so new they're probably still working on how to control such a large crowd. read more

This place is pretty nice. It's near the end of east 6th so it is quieter than many of its neighboring bars. The food was decent. We had the egg rolls as a snack while hanging out on a Saturday night. They were crispy and savory. Nothing you would normally expect from bar food. There are two levels to this bar. Both allow dogs inside if you're curious. There is a bit of a concern maybe a deal breaker for you. The downstairs bar has a bunch of fun and unique drinks they can make for you, they have sports on the TV if that is your thing. They also do a great job of being very inviting. We met two of the staff. Tanner and Casey. Both were very outgoing and friendly. Made great recommendations and made sure that we felt welcomed at that location. The downside is what could be a really cool gin bar upstairs. The staff at the top location were not as good as the people downstairs. No names and a real what do you want, now get lost attitude. I personally do not drink gin and when I asked the gentlemen at the bar if he recommended anything he said and I quote, "I'm not sure dude we just have gin, let me know when you figure it out." You have 40+ bottles behind you and you haven't sampled one.... he walked away and started BS'ing with the other bartender who did his best to avoid us. The bartender charged $12 for a tiny cocktail in a plastic cup that was made horribly and didn't even bother to mix the frozen margarita that was 50% mango purée and 25% lime juice.
