A great place to eat and not be over charged for a good meal. My server Nikoletta, waited on me as soon as I sat down. She was very personable, and made sure everything was okay.

    Great old diner feel.

I started with the Toucan Sam drink which was the only rum drink on their menu of specialty cocktails. It's a really good drink that is slightly bitter due to the campari and toasted almond bitters. For food, I was craving a burger but I visited on the wrong day. I chose the Thai style wings and a carne asada taco. Wings - the wings were decent but I got tired of eating them after the first 2. The thai peppers that it came with were not very spicy at all. The meat was also a little challenging to get off the bones for some reason. Taco - I enjoyed this better than the wings, even though this was smaller. Service was decent but not perfect. I was already ready to leave and then they asked if I wanted another drink. They were about 5 mins late since the bar area wasn't actively manned during a majority of my visit.

That was the only real bummer. The service was amazing - pacing out all of the small plate dishes in a sensible fashion. We ordered 7 different things, and one extra arrived that we didn't order. Every item was fresh and flavorful. We definitely will come back - though not all the time as that is cost prohibitive. While it definitely is on the pricey side, we are very happy to have dined here tonight.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. Service was great and we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday despite not having a reservation. Food and drinks came out promptly and timed perfectly. We spent about 1.5 hours here and we never felt rushed.

And, when I say that not a single bite was chewy, I know that because we finished every bit of it. My burger was a half pound of ground prime rib. This might be the best hamburger I've ever had in my life, and I have eaten a lot of excellent burgers. It was so good that my wife kept taking bites of it. This seemed fair, because I kept taking bites of her salmon. I was skeptical about the breading on the salmon, but this is a bit of a masterpiece. The Panko breadcrumbs are light, and the rice vinegar seasoning works beautifully with it. The edamame and other shredded vegetables were mostly for decoration. But, the rice was equally amazing. The service was friendly and efficient at the same time. I'm reminded again of how it's been too long since we were last here. It definitely won't be that long until our next visit.

I returned to celebrate a friend's birthday; we had the experience I expected during our first visit. I arrived early for our reservation, and even though it was a Friday evening, I was able to secure the best seat in the house: a corner table by the window, great for people-watching. The upscale restaurant is nicely designed. There are short, plush booths and small tables by the window. I loved the modern pendant lights throughout, suspended from diamond-shaped architectural elements. Windows on two sides of the restaurant let in the late summer light. We started with unique beverages: a cocktail for my friend and a mocktail, Make it Snappy, for me. I savoured the taste of snap peas ("snappy", get it?) and orange blossoms in the drink as we caught up with each other. Then the parade of dishes began. We started with the Roasted Eggplant Toast and the Seared Octopus. We could not get over the medley of eggplant, pepper, and cheese flavors. They blended so well together. The seared octopus was paired with briny olives and toothsome garbanzo beans. Next up, my friend had the seared sea scallops, served with thick slabs of bacon, whereas I had the filet mignon, rare. I usually never have filet as I prefer the ribeye or NY strip cuts. However, the steak was tender and well seasoned. We enjoyed our entrées with some of the best-prepared fries ever and Lion's Mane mushrooms. Despite the large portion of fries, we made a huge dent in them because they were, as I said, so well prepared, crispy and tender. For dessert, I had the trilece cake (tres leches cake), and my friend had the chocolate and espresso torte. Both were exquisite. I was delighted with my cake and also enjoyed the intense cardamom flavors of my friend's. Service was flawless. The bartender/ server was friendly and professional; he made great recommendations.

While the carrot salad was good, I would skip next time in favor of trying something else. Similarly, for my main, I ordered the crab and saffron risotto but did not really like it. Our waiter noticed and asked me about it, so I was honest and said it was probably my personal taste so no worries but he insisted on taking it off our bill. Like I said before, service was 5 stars - Carter was very attentive without being intrusive, water glasses were never empty, plates switched out between courses, crumbs brushed from table, etc. They do a really good job here!
