The search seems to never end; the elusive quest for delicious and consistent Chinese food. As part of the quest, a recommendation to try this place.... The menu was concise, although ordering online was evasive, ordering the old fashioned way had to suffice. Beef Mei Fun, Pork Siu Mai, House Special Fried Rice, and Shrimp Egg Rolls would have to do...and they did. The Beef Mei Fun was light and fresh with a great mix of textures from various vegetarian ingredients, however, without soy sauce, a bit bland, and the beef is cut extremely small. With soy sauce; excellent. The Pork Siu Mai, while a bit doughy, were light and tasty. The egg roll was very crisp but fresh inside. The fried rice was also fresh and with soy sauce, very good. As for the location, I have to admit had I walked in off the street, I'd have turned around and walked back out as it is very dark, chairs piled on tables, and no sign of life. Alas, despite their efforts to scare off customers, the food has earned 4 stars and at least two more return visits for my final grade. Stay tuned. read more

We ordered some takeout from here the other day, and had high hopes of finding a good Chinese place. The order taker was quite polite and service at the counter during pick up was pleasant. Unfortunately, the food did not stand up to the service and I probably won't be ordering from here again. We ordered the fried dumplings. They were OK. Kind of your standard fare, but not particularly memorable. The Thai spring rolls were crispy on the outside, but mushy on the inside, giving the impression that they were frozen and fried to order. Out of the entrées, we ordered the Kung pao Chicken was the best with an adequate amount of spice and chicken and a decent amount of veggies, but not enough peanuts. The crispy fried hot pepper chicken was also quite good and very spicy as expected. I would prefer that the pieces of chicken would be a little bit larger to have a slightly different chicken to coating ratio, but it was acceptable. We also got the pad. Thai with tofu. This dish was extremely bland, and based on this particular order, I would not order it again. So in summary, nothing remarkable here a couple of entrées were OK and the dumplings were OK too. So if you want an OK meal order here, it's not going to be stupendous. read more

Just got takeout from Lemon Tree again. We've been going here for years now and we probably get food twice or more each month. We love the food and there has never been a bad meal. They have many great options and authentic Chinese food. Some of my favorite dishes are; sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and the pineapple fried rice. They also have great soups and lunch items. The service before and during Covid has been amazing with very safe options for takeout. The establishment is owned by a very sweet and kind lady. Before Covid when dining in, the vibes were great and moody. One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, would definitely recommend. read more

He kept asking me "Are you SURE you ordered pad thai?" It was tasteless noodles. He didn't end up finishing it which was super surprising since he basically eats anything. Solid Drunken noodles - sub-par pad Thai. Literally, one of my top 10 worst pad Thai dishes in my life. Dry, no flavor, few peanuts, not fresh tasting. Granted, I was craving Thai so I got Thai, but their Chinese dishes could easily be the star of the show and I missed out. I will be back someday to see if that's true. I had heard good things about this restaurant but they were not what I experienced. First, it is really not a restaurant. It is a takeout shop that happens to offer seating. When the food was brought to our table it was served on paper plates, with plastic utensils. Soup was served in a clear plastic takeout container. The wait staff spoke no English and the cook had to come out from the kitchen to take our order. I ordered hot and sour soup which was almost entirely broth with very little tofu, mushrooms or vegetables in it. My entre was drunken noodles with chicken. There were very few noodles and even less chicken. It was mostly a mixture of shredded vegetables with some kind of sauce with no discernable taste of Thai basil or other spice. I would have to say that this was the worst Asian food I have had in 45 years of living in the Exton, PA area. read more

This is by far the best place to go to Chinese food during these uncertain times. Their delivery standards are close to none. Nobody gets inside the restaurant and they made a box that keeps you safe during the encounter. You have no contact to anyone. You get your food through a box at the entrance of the restaurant. Just got take out from them. I've always been a fan of their food, but I didn't know what to expect for takeout and precautions that they've taken. Totally safe and efficient process! Call your order in, go to pick it up. The vestibule only allows 1 person at a time. There's a full panel covering the door, see through for part of it and a box for handing over food (and cash). There's also a spot to insert your credit card. Simply state your order number, they tell you how much, stick your card in the chip reader to pay, then they pass the food over in the box. Fully contactless and very easy. The food was fantastic as always. I'm so glad to see them back open again during these trying times. I'll be sure to put them in my takeout rotation! read more

This used to be our go-to place for Chinese. Used to be. The new owners don't have any clue what they're doing, or how to cook. The Won-ton soup tasted like weak dish water. Fried dumplings were shoe leather consistency and burnt. We have no clue what was in the beef and broccoli. The pork lo-mien had whole onion slices in it. I didn't even try the house special fried rice because of the putrid smell. After about 3 bites each we ended up throwing our $145 take-out order in the trash. Sadly, this restaurant has been taken over by new owners. So far, they don't have their menu printed, but their offerings are a lot more limited than the previous Lemon Tree. The fired dumplings were doughy and greasy. It seemed as if they were deep fried, rather than pan fried. Each table receives a bowl of wonton chips and sweet and sour sauce. I think this is sort of a weird appetizer. It's very greasy and plain. But it is nice to have something to munch on at the start of the meal. We ordered the Pad Thai. It's a well executed classic pad Thai. Noodles were tender and firm. The balance of savory and crunchy and sweet was pretty accurate. This was a good, reliable dish. It didn't shock me or impress me enough to give five stars. Got the sesame chicken which was way over cooked and chewy. My jaw got got a workout. Others in the family got Mongolian beef. I tried it because I was asked to. It wasn't good. The Tom yum chicken soup was ok. The plain rice and stir fried rice was ok. Not of it was great. We walked in to their weird converted covid entrance and said we would like to place an order. They suggested we call. So we stood there and called and he picked up the phone and spoke to us on the phone. Flippin weird!! For what it is, Lemon Tree is good. They have decent prices and the food is good. The portions are huge, so if you're ordering something like sweet and sour chicken or veggie lo mein (my 2 favorites) be prepared for plenty of leftovers! There's easily enough in most portions to share, and you get a choice of white or brown rice with dishes that include a side of rice, something not super common in the area, albeit not authentic. I've never tried the Thai food so I can't speak to that. The reason I'm not giving it more stars is because I can think of two restaurants in the area I would choose before Lemon Tree. If you're in the area and hungry for Chinese food it'll do, and you'll probably be satisfied! read more

Still great as always. Just updating to add that they have a great contactless pickup system. You say your order number in the closed off 1 person allowed entryway and you are able to insert your credit card through a small slit (or cash) and they pass your order through this wooden drawer apparatus. Had a hankering for General Tsos so I didn't get anything extravagant (yet) BUT with that said, the food was done extremely fast and right on par for chinese. When picking up, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant itself inviting with a sushi bar and all. Will be returning for a more "exciting" meal in the near future. Till then, I can say the general tsos and egg rolls are good! Only gave 4/5 stars bc I asked for a side of steamed broccoli and it was nearly $10! Been coming to this place for over 5 years. Best Chinese food in the area. The beef is always good no matter if it's the beef and broccoli the beef with strum beans and the west lake beef soup is by far the best.
