Lenny's is my favorite bagel shop in Westchester. The quality of the bagels is top notch and the service is always quick and good. The owners do not value customers, and demonstrate how inconsequential each individual customer is in how they treat them. I remember writing a song about Lenny's one late Friday night about how I would definitely be there the next morning and how nothing compared to it. Similar in the fashion of Sinead O'Connor. Yes, yes that's the kind of place Lenny's will always be to me. The next morning I got a bad boy bagel (kind of like an everything egg bagel, I just like the name really) with egg, cheese, and chorizo. It is Port Chester after all--you can't pass up the chorizo! They have a good selection of fresh bagels, mini bagels, and spreads. Interesting sandwich combinations. Their muffins and brownies wrapped in plastic wrap are warm and soft. I can walk here on my lunch hour, or grab a quick breakfast before work on a Saturday, but expect the line to be at the door. They move the crowd quickly, with an average of 4-5 people working the counter, including the owner. Endless selection of bagels, bialys, salads, and spreads. They also have tofu spreads, so vegans will be delighted. My favorite is the tofu lox on oat bran everything bagel or pumpernickel. I've been going to Lenny's for years and it remains to be the only business in rye ridge that's worth spending money at. Their food is amazing and always tastes fresh, which is obviously a common thought because there's always a line out the door. Living in the Chicago area, it's hard (no, impossible) to find good bagels here. So, when we were back in the New York area recently, we craved good bagels -- and found them at Lenny's. Lines are always long but move kinda quickly. Prices are steep but ordinarily worth it. Bagels and bialys are fresh and tasty. Salads and spreads are tempting treats. Place is relatively clean. Good spot for quick breakfast. I know what to expect, so I never get disappointed. They are quick and you can get bagels with eggs ready for you sometime in 6-9 minutes. Love love love. Bagels are just the right amount of chewy. The tomato soup and grilled chesse sandwiches are the best lunches in the area. And it's a great place for last minute office catering. This morning I ordered four everything bagels to go and was surprised when I got home - all of them were nearly bare, with only a slight sprinkling of poppy and an even smaller amount of sesame seeds. Doesn't "everything" denote ALL toppings? These had the taste of plain bagels. Don't be foolish and cut corners; if you actually dip your bagels in a variety of seeds it will create a better-tasting product and customers will be more apt to return. I have yet to find a bagel place that can top Lenny's, they have a HUGE variety of bagels and cream cheese. Their coffee is to die for, especially their seasonal pumpkin coffee, the best pumpkin coffee I have ever had. They have a big variety of hot foods and always have the best soup available for purchase by the quart. I love this place BUT their kitchen ventilation is terrible, be prepared to leave smelling like fried eggs. There are many morning that I want to come in for a coffee or bagel but I opt not to solely because I don't want to spend the rest of the day smelling like a deep fryer, that's the only reason I deducted a star. Wow, terrible service. We had high hopes for the place, as it's within walking distance, but I don't need that much attitude mixed with incompetence in the morning. When inquiring about why our order was taking so long, we just got puzzled looks and a very rude "What?" from the staff, as if we hadn't placed an order 10 minutes prior. We were hosting a shiva for my mother in law. There were 56 guests. We went thru 4 pounds of smoked salmon, 3 pounds of egg salad and3 pounds of tuna salad ,plus more food that was all carefully prepared ELSEWHERE were all enjoyed. The only thing NOT consumed were Lennys poor quality, pallid looking bagels were all left behind. Everyone thought they were poor quality supermarket bagels. Not the best bagel I have ever had by FAR! The staff are very nice and friendly and the menu is large but the bagels are mediocre at best. For starters, I'm not the type to ever write a bad review. However after what just happened I'll make an exception. I have been a patron here for years and I arrived thirteen minutes before closing time and encountered an employee at the door. As I tried to enter the door was closed and locked in my face. That was rude and blatantly unacceptable. If closing time is 4 o'clock it's 4 o'clock not 3:47. I called the establishment to complain and the gentleman said he had no idea what I was talking about. I come here because frankly they are the only place around that serves iced decaf coffee besides Dunkin Donuts. But their service is awful, there is always a line, no matter what time of day you come (so insufficient staff), and the staff will usually get something wrong. Today I ordered a chicken cutlet on a roll with mozzarella, lettuce and tomato, an oat bran bagel (not toasted with butter) and a double chocolate muffin. The server asked me if the sandwich was chicken cutlet on a roll with lettuce, tomato and mayo and i said, "No, mozzarella cheese, tomato and lettuce, no mayo, please." Needless to say my sandwich had no cheese on it. And my bagel - well it was a sesame seed bagel with no butter, not an oat bran bagel with butter. Additionally, their store closes at 3 pm. I walked in the door at 2:10 pm and as usual, the staff is cleaning furiously, preparing to close, while three people are in line ordering and more people are coming in the door. Unfortunately I had to give 3 stars because Their breakfast specials are so bland and kinda disgusting. I ordered an omelette with spinach, feta and tomato and it was so watery and disgusting. The hash browns it comes with it is an oily piece of potato pancake. How is that hash browns?? BUT their bagels are REALLY good. They are also overpriced and will give you a different price depending on who takes care of you. Its very inconsistent. Customer service is good, I havent had an issue with that. read more

I went in for a bagel at Lenny's Bagels in Rye NY one morning. I asked for an everything bagel with cream cheese. When I arrived at my destination to eat my bagel, I open the bag, unwrapped the plastic, and was just about to take a bite when I noticed something unordinary. I spilt my bagel open and found a cockroach trying to escape through the cream cheese. I have never screamed so loud before in my life. In addition, my friend is an AIB (Food Saftey) inspector. He said he inspected Lenny's bagels once and they received a few minors for flour beetles and other webbing (spiders,insects, etc.) through out the whole facility. I would NOT go to Lenny's bagels if your looking for a delicious bagel in the rye/port chester area, its just unsanitary and you really might get sick with the amounts to mold built into their walls. read more
