I rarely eat bagels, but I felt like I just had to have one while in New York. I had to go to a meeting at the NY Historical Society, and afterward I was looking for a place nearby to escape a sudden downpour. I was craving lox, so I ordered a bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes and lox. Lenny's was no frills, but it definitely hit the spot and kept me dry! Lenny's: The afternoon staff is so task oriented-,after placing you order- your handed a buzzer with a number along with a paper receipt, they you line up to pay whereupon your given you a bag with yet another paper receipt and some napkins. Then your directed to wait on the right for your food. Upon getting your food there is a third receipt bounded by a red rubber-band. No one says Hello, smiles or says Thank you! If you like being treated like a piece of cattle, for over priced hand crafted sandwiches?, then Lenny's is your place. Upon receiving my food (buzzer goes off) I suggested to the cashier that their process was overly complicated with so many rules for a simple sandwich. A guy with a red cap appears our of no where, charging at me in a loud tone- challenging me -for daring to questioning their process. Its all too regimented for a simple sandwich- that is not at all that good, in taste or value. If you have any soul, stay clear of this place and support your local bodega. You feel like your on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain during the height of the Cold War. read more

I live nearby so I've been here a few times because there aren't a whole lot of options for a quick lunch right around here. I've yet to find one of their sandwich specials that tastes good or has any flavor. Every time I go its a 10-15 min wait no matter whether it's packed inside or completely empty. Really slow service. Every time I go I have to wait forever for my food. Even when the restaurant is empty and there are 6 workers, it takes like 15 minutes to get your sandwich. The sandwiches are also nothing special. read more

Sandwiches may be slightly pricier than other delis, but the quality is well worth it. Big, tasty, 2-hand meals. Lots of comfort-food staples as sides, (stuffing, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes) to go along with what's between your bread. I have gotten delicious sandwiches and salads at "Lenwich" for MANY years . . . (all the way back to when it was just called "Lenny's"!!) There are many good things to say: reasonable prices, FRESH foods, comfortable tables/chairs, and even a TV to watch! BUT, the BEST thing about it is the many helpful, kind staff. In particular, there is a guy named Andres. He's the one who takes your order and gives you a receipt at the very back of the store. He is mannerly, handsome, and very efficient! He remembers that I often order their chicken soup (it is delicious!) so if I hesitate trying to decide what I want, he will smile and say, "Chicken Soup?" This is my favorite Lenny's, and since it is obscenely close to my apartment, that works out well (for my lifestyle, not so well for my chubby little waist!). Once you stop by a few times a week for a few weeks, they are very friendly. The selection is enormous as it is as every Lenny's, the prices are reasonable, and it is just such a convenient addition to my life. I sometimes wonder what they're doing with my bagels when I am one of two people in the store and it takes 10 minutes to get a toasted bagel, but whatever. Obviously, places like this get chaotic and the extensive menu can be a little intimidating, but the staff at Lenny's does their best to keep things moving quickly...if not always smoothly. Randomly decided to go in there on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't very busy and there was both indoor and outdoor seating. Make sure to order food at the very back of the restaurant, because they only take drink orders at the front register (which was odd). We didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out, we decided to go with a bagel and a wrap. Both of those were delicious and I would be curious to try more of their food. I'm never disappointed with the sandwiches from Lenny's. They're always stacked with layers upon layers of meat and veggie goodness. I recommend the C1 with avocado (I usually order without the capers). The only downside is it is rather expensive for a sandwich. The guys behind the counter are really nice, and make sure they have your order perfect before they set it out for you. Quality of service - slow and not overly friendly. Recently I waited 20min for one sandwich. And it was 11am, and wasn't that busy. The staff behind the counters were working non-stop, superfast. I can only assume they were doing a catering job or something. Many people seem to love their breakfast deals. I haven't tried any breakfast item so cannot comment. There is plenty of seating. Though it is a chain in the city, it feels very well-run. And when you're sick of Subway's $5 footlong, try a hero from Lenny's for about $3k more. Worth it. read more

Have had an overstuffed and delightful sandwich at the midtown west location so I was hoping for a similar experience on a Sunday afternoon here. Firstly, at 4pm, I should not have to wait more than 10 minutes for you to make me a simple sandwich (#7 Joe's - turkey, roast beef, lettuce, tomato, onion wrap) especially at $8.50 a pop. Secondly, it was dry dry dry. I did appreciate the ultra healthy elements of it and it was enough for me for the rest of the day, but a little bit of moisture never killed anyone. Will go to Subway next time for $6 of the same thing and tastier. read more

This place used to be my favorite I love everything they made for me and the coffee is pretty good. Then one day I went for my usual BLT with avocado, stood there 15 mins for my buzzer to go off but never did so I went to the counter and asked for my money back and left.
