Disappointed in Gotelli. I had been led to believe they were a customer caring outfit. I was wrong. Happy with the technician who cleaned our boiler and told me to flush the system every so often. When time came, I forgot the details of the procedure, and called Gotelli to send someone whom I would pay, of course to refresh my memory. Leo gave me three times the run around. Nobody ever showed up. Not fair and disrespecful. read more

I called Leo several months ago about a plumbing issue that was time-dependent. He said he would get right out. No Leo. I called him again and he apologized and said he would come out on a certain day. Again he did not show up. In the meantime, the pipe broke and the fire department had to do an emergency fix. So I called him a third time and this time I told him to please call if he can't make it. No Leo. No call. I don't have any reason to think the guy is not a good plumber. I'm sure he is but his customer service skills are not up to par. Use him if you will but if he flakes out on you the first time, do youself a favor and forget about him. read more

I called the company to request help with a link under my sink. The owner called me back immediately and said he can have someone here shortly. Great, I thought. The plumber arrived, looked at it, found a loose screw and tightened it. I asked about pricing, he said he isn't allowed to discuss pricing or take money, the company will contact me. So at no point was I informed about pricing. A few days later I got a bill by mail for $245 described as "minimum charge". This didn't seem reasonable to me, as at no point when scheduling the appointment or during the visit was I told about any minimum fee or charge. I contacted the company multiple times via email and phone over the following two months. I was told the owner will call back, but no-one ever did, and all follow-ups were ignored. A few days ago I received a letter saying my bill is overdue. I live in a large building, I posted in our building group, and others shared they had the same experience with this company. In CA, mandatory fees are required to be disclosed before service (SB 478, effective July 2024). I believe the practices of this company are not legal and not ethical. I am posting this to warn other customers. I recommend avoiding this company as I wouldn't want to deal with someone not ethical and difficult to deal with. Bernardo and Felipe just came out to fix a problem with a sink and a problem with the dishwasher. As always, they excelled. While they were here, they also fixed faucet knobs in three different bathrooms that had slowly come loose due to not being installed correctly. They identified the cause immediately, which involved going underneath the sinks, and had them all fixed in less than ten minutes. They also unclogged a sink, quickly, which is something we forgot to mention when we called. I've met a lot of smart people, like we all have. These guys can run with any of them. They're not just packing wrenches in their tool belts; they have multiple intelligences in there as well, visual/spacial, logical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal,...and they are humble, with great senses of humor. Bernardo also pointed out that the screws on our outdoor kitchen granite counter were going to leave rust spots, which they had started to already. That's the kind of professionals they are. They come to help, not just to put their heads down, do the job and leave. Just an all around smart guy that you would do well to have in your life. I know that anytime we have a plumbing need, prompt, professional, affordable, and enjoyable plumbing service is just a phone call away. Our low flush, pressurized, toilet began running constantly. The previous plumber who worked in our high-rise moved, so we didn't know who to call. Our building manager gave us Leo Gotelli's number... and were we lucky. He sent one of his men to inspect the problem, and then as soon as the part arrived, he came back and installed it. Fast and no hassle. I would recommend Leo Gotelli Plumbing especially if you are in San Francisco. After reading some of the poor reviews, I can't help but wonder if they were talking about another plumber. I noticed there are other plumbers with the Gotelli name. My experience with Leo Gotelli Plumbing was they went overboard to follow up with phone calls and were extremely professional. VERY SHADY COMPANY These guys showed up to our home unbooked. They called my husband saying they were at our home (nothing scheduled - owner was supposed to call my husband to schedule something and instead just had his workers show up without ever letting us know). Their job was very shoddy. Loose ends not tied up and they ACTUALLY HAD THE NERVE TO USE MY HUSBAND'S MATERIAL!! something they should have had with them. My husband had called the company when the guys showed up at the house. The owner answered and was very rude and arrogant. He threatened to pull the guys off the job and basically made it seem like he was too good of a "tradesman" to be listening to my husband concerns. When they left our home they even signed a bare beam that we had a friend sign for other reasons. No offer of providing a contract, no estimate of work provided, just forced into work and told we'd receive an invoice. Owner had the nerve to say that he told my husband how much the job would be- without even looking at our place or asking questions. Rude and unprofessional. Will be complaining to the licensing board and better business bureau. read more

Run away, run away, run away. Leo billed me $370 to replace two shower cartridges, but they left us worse off than we started. His plumber Bernardo came out for 20 minutes - one shower was untouched, the other was so poorly adjusted so that the shower was not usable after he left. I called 30+ times to schedule a second visit. Leo's rarely there and no one else will schedule appointments. I left countless messages and the only time he ever called me back was to reschedule an appointment we had made. When that rescheduled appointment time came, about three months after I first reached out, I took a day off work to oversee the work. I waited for hours and his plumber never showed. I called his office many times as I waited. Finally, I was told that Bernardo couldn't make it because he was in the Avenues. As I left the building, the front desk worker told me that Bernardo was in our building, working on a different unit. Also, I've been getting email bills from Leo saying I owe more than $1,000. When I called and asked, he said they'd been hacked and there was nothing that he could do. When I suggested that he could proactively alert us, he was belligerent. He is dishonest, unresponsive, irresponsible, and verbally abusive to customers. Read the other 1-star reviews and stay away!! read more

I wish I could leave a negative rating! If you want to use a plumbing company that fails to return calls, where you leave countless messages, only to have none returned, or to have an appointment scheduled only to have the plumber no-show this is the plumbing company for you!! I had a shower leak, and since my father was a local business owner, thought I would use Gottelli. I am also an HOA president, and heard from the property management company this company could be useful. The only person that seems to be in charge is Leo Gotelli. There is an old woman who will take messages, and is essentially useless for scheduling, or problem solving. If you reach her, you might as well hang up, and call back. In regards to Leo, You have to call at almost 6 AM in order to reach him. When you do, he will just promise to call you back in a few days, which as you can guess, never happens. After repeated calls, when I finally had a plumber show, they were not able to fix the problem, and said they would have to come back. Wash , repeat, and rinse with the process above. When another set of plumbers came back, they couldn't figure out how to install a shower diverter. I even had a Danze technician on hold via phone (the vendor who built the hardware) to help them. The plumbers could not even communicate to the Danze tech, who I had to call, to fix the problem. Doesn't plumber mean you know how to solve plumbing problems or talk to other plumbers? SO, I was left with a failed leaky shower, 3 service calls and a bill for $365.00. Plus countless left messages, and no shows. I wish I could bill Leo for *MY* time lost on this escapade. I told Leo I would not pay given their horrible customer service, lack of follow through, and inability to problem solve. I ,also, told our HOA association NEVER to use this plumbing company. (See a review for R and S Erection whom you should steer clear of as well, and has the same inept management - I believe it is the same family that runs this business, too). I eventually paid the bill, as it seems the only part of this inept business that works is their billing department, and their collection threats. I eventually used their competitor George Sales Plumbing. WOW! They fixed the issue in one visit! They showed on time! They had someone schedule! They are responsive! My advice to Leo Gotelli is if you cannot take small jobs, be honest. Refer them to George! At least they know how to deal with customers! read more

Had multiple leaks and in issues in 2 bathrooms. Leo Gotelli responded to the first call, came within a week, and fixed everything that same day. Considering all the issues that I had previously in those bathrooms (including another plumber who told me that one of my faucets couldn't be fixed without a part that no longer existed), I am thrilled. Tonight I took my first non-soot bath in a few years! It would boil my blood to recount all of the details about the money we spent and time we wasted with the previous plumber (who we were required by our Homeowners Association to use) that came out five times in about two years. They eventually threw up their hands and said, "It's a mystery!" as to why we still had black soot coming out of our bathroom faucets even though we'd changed a bunch of fittings and bought a new $600 water heater as they'd recommended. I literally threw myself on their mercy to fix it at whatever cost and inconvenience, since our baby and then toddler had to take a bath in it every night. Finally finally we were allowed to use a different plumber and Leo Gotelli was recommended. Leo himself came over and took one look at the flex hoses on our water heater and said that they were problem. In literally 30 seconds he diagnosed what the other guys could only scratch their heads at FOR YEARS. And within about a week, he sent his folks out to replace the flex hoses with ones that don't have rubber in them, flushed the whole system, cleaned up after themselves, and even tighened an annoying loose faucet in the sink on their way out. I am trying to focus on the fact that I am SO grateful that the issue is over with instead of wanting to rip the lips off of the other guys for not having a CLUE about how to prevent bathing my kid (and myself) in greasy petroleum water, which is particularly ironic because I have gone out of my way to buy the damn $15/tube petroleum-free butt paste for my kid since he was born. read more

Our new house had no handle for the shower and appeared to need a new shower valve. I called all the plumbers with good ratings from Yelp, and they all told me that for insurance reasons they wouldn't work on condos with more than 5 units. Gotelli was recommended by the condo manager, and they were great. Tom arrived within an hour of when I called. He put up with the lousy SoMA parking options around my condo. When he came to look at the problem, he pulled out the cartridge (the part between the valve and the handle) and found that it had been assembled incorrectly by the previous owner. He reassembled it correctly and we only had to replace a small missing part, and he was able to find the exact model as the original. When he came back with the replacement part, the front desk of the building gave him a hard time but he was just as nice and helpful as before. He's the most efficient plumber I've met and on top of that he's an all-round nice guy. Go Gotelli! read more

I had Gotelli Plumbing come out to my condo to move a water facet back into the wall a few inches. I was told over the phone that the job would take 1 to 1.5 hours and their hourly rate is $150 so it could cost from $150 to $225. They came and did the work in under an hour, but they sent two plumbers. They then sent the bill by mail, charging for two plumbers for 1.5 hours totally over $400. Plus they added on $200 in parts that were not mentioned when I asked for a quote, and there was no description of what the parts were. I called the office 5 times trying to discuss the bill with someone but was never called back. Then I received a letter two months later demanding payment. Definitely would not recommend. read more

David Gotelli works with the property managers of my condo building. We had a problem with the hot water in the building and he was scheduled to come check each faucet in my unit. He gets 5 stars because: -He took off his shoes once he got inside my home (I appreciate the respect for my home). -He checked each faucet meticulously. -The last plumbers who came left my bathroom faucet different (it was not rotating smoothly anymore). He came and took it apart and put it back together and it just worked properly again. -I mentioned a couple of problems that were unrelated to the hot water issue and he went above and beyond to go out of his way and quickly fixed them for me. read more

The work Gotelli did for my building was back in March 2011 so I have lived with the work now for almost six years. My husband and I purchased a 1906 Edwardian building in Feb 2011. Within a couple of weeks of moving in we became aware that every drain pipe in the building was leaking. We are talking about four separate pipes leaking raw sewage down the outside of the building, into garage and into the alley beside our house. Having been around since 1906, the plumbing was a Frankenstein job and much of it apparently done without permits because it wasn't up to code. A general contractor I was working with brought in Gotelli to fix the mess. Gotelli's team set-up scaffolding on one side of the building to replace the drain pipes coming from one of the third floor bathrooms. The whole back side of the existing pipe was rotten. Gotelli tied in all the fixtures into one new large cast iron drain pipe that ran into the concrete pad at the ground level below. One of the pipes from the shower had to be accessed by opening up the ceiling in the lower unit. On the other side of the building, the three different drain pipes ran from the third floor down through a cramped light well. His team had to jimmy ladders into the tight space which serviced two bathrooms and a laundry room. The work in the light well was the most gosh awful project I can imagine. His team had to spend hours on those ladders pulling old pipes and putting in new ones. There was no space to work. While doing this they determined that the overflow for one of the bathtubs wasn't connected to any pipe so when the bathtub was filled too high, the excess water just ran down in between the walls and into the garage. They opened the wall in this cramped light well and repaired the bathtub plumbing. They replaced pvc pipe (not to code) that was part of the existing system and other rotten metal pipes. They tied it into cast iron drain pipes that ran down to pipes under our foundation. All of Gotelli's work was done with permits. They got the work done in one week. The final inspection was effortless. The work cost about $12,000 and there have been no problems with their work in the six years since. Very professional, very prompt, high quality work. We are just about to call them again for a new project so I thought I would write a review of their first one. read more

Tom was very unprofessional! He attacked me verbally! He was in my home for under an hour and didn't get anything completed. He blew up on me when he found out that the water had not been shut off. I feel that as a "plumber" it was his responsibility to shut off the water before he would have gotten started on any work. We replaced Gotelli Plumbing with another company who got the job done efficiently, in half of the time without any swearing. This is the worst company I've worked with in years. They quoted $138/hour to do some plumbing work in my SF condo. Upon finishing the work they billed me $195/hour and their work was incomplete. I've emailed them four times and called once both to ask them to come back to complete the job and to honor their quoted rate. Before the appointment they were very responsive. Since the appointment, I have not received any acknowledgement of my emails or phone call. Stay away from Leo and his crooked tactics. If you don't, you'll regret it! read more

Holy Cow. New home owner, single woman, oblivious. Long of the short, been calling around and had a plumbing co come out and charge to diagnose why my piolet light kept going out. the plumbers said i had to replace the burner unit, which i'd have to call the manufacturer for and wait for and pay them again to install when it arrived and HOPEFULLY that would solve the problem. If not the WHOLE WATER HEATER HAD TO BE REPLACED.. Called Leo. Within 5 minutes he diagnosed it over the phone, no charge, no visit. End result, my dryer is near the water heater and there was lint build up clogging the air vent thus snuffing out my piolet light. This would have cost me 1500 bucks if I used the plumbing co I thought i could trust. n fyi, i have never posted on yelp, but Leo, you are worth it. thank you! read more

I unfortunately must post a pretty negative review of this business. I have placed at least 10 phone calls to this company about problems in my condo, and each time they promise to show up "the next day" or shortly thereafter. When my toilet needed a flapper replaced, it took them 3 trips before they got it fixed - and each time I had to put multiple calls in to them to beg them to come out. They have a deal with my condo association, so I have used them. However, I am now at wits end, and I need to call another plumber. read more

I read the great reviews on yelp and decided to go with Leo Gotelli to make sure the job got done correctly. I called him to make an appointment for him to stop by and give me an estimate. He sets up a time and date and then does not show up. He did not even call. I make another call and ask what happened. He says, "He had too many jobs" that day. Ok, no problem he could have called and not have me wait. I understand that things can pop up so no problem...I set up another appointment. Same thing happens again. I thought he might be different but this is how it works. If your job is not worth a couple of thousand dollars...it is not worth his time. He will not tell you this but string you along. Just tell me you are too busy and I can find someone else instead of wasting two weeks playing phone tag with him and chasing him down to get answers and then being stood up...twice. He may have been good 2 years ago but I would definitely avoid this company for any service. read more

Hello fellow Yelpers. This will be my FIRST review, I'm pretty stoked! I've been reading the reviews for years but never took the time to post one. If my experience turns out well, hellooo new hobby. Let's get started. This was a commercial job. Tom, the person who did the job, did a good job on the repairing the leaky urinal, no more leaks! He knew what he was doing and seemed very experienced. He also seemed like a nice guy. Now to the juicy part of the review. First off, the guy who answers the phone is professional. He's brief and to the point. So I scheduled a plumber out and the job was done. When I got the invoice, I called and the same guy answered. I mentioned that the rate seemed high so he tells me that other companies charge even more. Then he goes on to tell me that he's been in the business for 38 years and has a large customer base. I can't figure out what he's trying to tell me a) to completely and utterly trust him or b) he has a large one-time customer base. Either way, show a little compassion to your customers! No compassion? Fine. Let's see from my fellow Yelpers if he meant a) or b). Oh yeah, he also asked if he told me the rate during my initial call to which I said no. So he says, well that's the rate. (Silence) Well played, sir. Edit: So, I got some feedback from a fellow Yelper and the rate I was charged was reasonable but still on the high side. If I can get the same job done for considerably less, I would. But hey, that's just me. I upgraded the rating from 3 to 4 stars because the work was very good, while the price was reasonable but on the higher end. read more

As the score indicates, I'm a big fan of Leo Gotelli plumbing. His son, David, and coworker, Ryan, installed radiant heat in my house. They did a great job and were super friendly too. Leo came to my house the day after I called him and gave me an estimate. He also gave me a recommendation for a contractor to do asbestos removal (to remove the old heating duct works) that saved me $$ from an estimate of another contractor. My job was scheduled to begin about 3 weeks after the estimate. Coordinating between contractors was simple. The overall installment took three days. I also saved money by insulating myself. David carefully explained to me what needed to be done. It took me an additional day and half (with the help of some friends) to insulate the piping in the floor. I appreciate Leo's straight forward approach and all of David and Ryan's hard work. read more

This is a copy of the letter I am sending him today: Dear Mr. Gotelli, I received your bill for the work performed June 4, 2015 at my house. I object to the charge for the second plumber at $100 and I have deducted it from my payment to you. When we spoke on June 1, 2015 by telephone, I described the job to you, and you estimated it would take less than your minimum of one hour. I asked what your rates are, and you indicated $145 per hour. You did not say anything about charging $100 for a second plumber. The work performed is satisfactory. The plumbers arrived at 8:40am and left at 9:15am. To charge the minimum of $145 for the first plumber, and $100 for the second plumber, extrapolates to $490/hour for that half an hour of work. That is exorbitant. Whether or not it is justified, you must tell customers in advance that that is your billing practice, and you did not. I called you based on the recommendation of one of my neighbors. Since then I have read your reviews on Yelp, and another customer complaints of the same bad business practice. I would like to be able to report on Yelp, and in my letter to the Better Business Bureau, that you have appropriately subtracted this $100 charge. Your deposit of the enclosed check for $190 will represent agreement. If you do not agree please contact me in writing." I will amend this review if he refunds the $100. But I advise other customers to inquire in advance about this charge. AMENDMENT: the check has been cashed for $190. read more

I live in a condominium . In this last year , I have had two serious leaks for various reasons . Our building engineer recommended Gotelli Plumbing . They were wonderful . Dave ,Tom ,Bernardo and all the others could not have been more professional . As the leaks kept coming , they were in my house on a daily basis .
