Hair in the food since the cooks don't wear hair nets. There was literally hair in my friend's food. If that's not bad enough, they smoke cigarettes in the kitchen and back, touching their face, getting nasty residue on their hands without washing them. They smoke cigs in the open face kitchen with children frequently coming and going. They have minors working here who have to be around the cigarette smoke who aren't even old enough to buy tobacco yet. I would give zero stars if possible. They have food without lids just sitting out like rice or mystery liquids. The whole place is dusty and most likely has cigarette residue on the food products since they don't use lids on many things and chain smoke openly around the food in the back while cooking. If you care about proper handling of your food and a clean, friendly space to eat, go elsewhere! read more

Overall (A) Leo's, Kerbys, National, American, L Georges, etc which one is the best? I don't know depends on my mood. But this place is another one that is a safe bet. Food (A) I love Coneys Islands. It's genius - they are basically a diner but have some other options that are great. We got a few loose, a few regulars and a Greek salad to share. All was excellent. We love Leo's Coney Island, such a great variety of foods to choose from. We love the dramatic flaming Saganaki Opa with pita bread. The Coney Dogs have the hot dog casing snap, perfect with chili and mustard. The mousakka was rich and delicious and we love the tang of Lemon rice chicken Soup & Small Greek Salad has plenty of cucumber, beets, garbanzo bean and tomatoes! Yummy. Love this place for Sunday breakfast. Our waitress Sarah saw I had terrible tremors when we ordered and after dropping the food took a moment to cut my pancakes for me without asking. I was so touched! And the staff quickly learned I can only hold a coffee cup half full and brought it to me that way every time! The food is good with huge portions and the service is top notch! And I love the huge bright windows and plentiful space, so many Conry Islands tend to be tucked into areas with small windows and almost no natural light so they end up feeling crowded and dark in comparison. read more

My husband and I were here on Sunday 1-21 and our experience was not good. The cashier told us that if we didn't like the process we do t have to come back. To have someone like that at your restaurant is unbelievable I asked for a manager and she said she was the manager. Well if she is you should fire her. Her name was Hailey and one of the rudest people in the restaurant. I frequent this Coney Island in particular because I know that i'm going to get the same service and food time and time again. Probably stop in at least every two weeks for chicken lemon rice soup and a baby greek salad. We always get a plate of cheese fries for the table, which to be honest could have more cheese on them? The staff is young and friendly, always stopping to top up your cup of joe. Decor needs a little help, perhaps a refresh? Got hung up on while placing order an order for 2 waffles with bacon bits( & Of course the guy had a different energy when he realized who was picking up the order. ) After picking up order me and my boyfriend opened our boxes to see a HARD non edible waffle. Boyfriend went in to get another one made. Same guy , remade the waffle while continuously looking up at my boyfriend who was watching him make his food. Finally got the food. The strawberry pancakes I received was literally a soggy pile of pancakes with light strawberry syrup and no actual strawberries (didn't even contain the frozen chunks that are normally on there) when I tried to politely ask Jennifer A. about it she was extremely rude and stand offish and literally WALKED AWAY in the middle of me asking her a question. We ended up here on Monday mornings for a couple weeks in a row about a month back. Long story and not relevant so I will skip it. We were in the area at 9 am and I could not face breakfast food either occasion, this particular Leo's was a bit of a desperation pick. The first time we came I ordered coneys, it was 9 am but I felt like them and hey they serve them so I cannot be the only weirdo. Leo's aren't the best rendition and frankly this Leo's is not the best Leo's either. They were fine but not something I would go out of my way to recommend. My husband got banana pancakes with ummm onion in them. Not by choice, an apology was issued by the waitress but no compensation was forthcoming. Sigh. The less than stellar experience does not end at that. There is also a group of senior thugs who try to hog the only two tables that are not booths, even the one they are not sitting at. They are obviously regulars as they were there both occasions and act as if they own the place. I have never seen people so possessive and hostile about a freaking coney place and *their tables*. They apparently put their coats on the other table and asking them to be polite turns breakfast into a geriatric version of West Side Story. Seriously. I guess a Monday only senior special gets the oldster's hackles up. The restaurant is their TURF on Mondays, a Jet will be a Jet until their last dying day dammit! In hindsight I have no idea why we went back. We did though. This time not only did we get the evil cataract clouded menacing glare but we had to sit at a dirty table. We waited for ummm anyone to notice the giant dried up ketchup stain but I guess they don't get why that would be problematic around here. Still I could deal. I will be honest, after being up all night and fasting to boot, I am not one to be confrontational. Heck I can barely muster up being more than passively annoyed. Just get me my large diet poison drink and my artery clogging, mediocre tasting, overly carbed, fat laden food and the worst you will get from me is a sarcastic type thank you. Except what I witnessed next should have been enough to snap me out of my complacent, sleep deprived and hunger induced haze. Both occasions we were in here there was also a clearly disabled man. I didn't really think much of it but he clearly was mild to moderately mentally challenged. The first time I only barely took note of him, the second it was hard not to. The reason why had nothing to do with him but with two of the waitresses. These *ladies* had a rather vocal, indiscrete argument over who *had* to be the one to serve him. It was ghastly. Our waitress I believe was trying to be the reasonable one and was not involved in the fight other than to express that she was pissed about their attitudes and to shush the shrill tones. She also noticed that I noticed what was going on and seemed mortified. I also believe she ended up waiting on him herself even though she had most of the tables already. This little drama was witnessed by everyone. It was so uncomfortable. No one was in control of this staff, clearly. The cook seemed to find it all vastly amusing. Tacky is all I can say. Well that and insensitive, narrow minded, mean spirited and just awful. I am kicking myself. I should have said something. Done something. Normally I am the first to jump in with both feet. For some reason though I just left as fast as I could, never to return. This place is wretched. I still feel horrible about this experience. read more

I usually get a Grilled Chicken salad but I opted for breakfast this time around. i rarely do breakfast so when I do get it i wish to thoroughly enjoy it. The prior week I had been to another location and the breakfast was awful. Leo's was great. The pancakes were prepared just right. Not dry but fluffy and good. The eggs were done correctly. I get them scrambled with mushrooms, cheese and spinach. The bacon and sausage were also tasty. The meal was also at a great price for the good portions that I received at under $10. For a Coney Island, this place is great! We have been here or ordered takeout numerous times and have yet to be disappointed. I wouldn't say the food is amazing, but it's a Coney Island and not a fancy steak house, so I definitely factor that in. I visited Leo's Coney Island with my girlfriend for take-out, and we had a terrible experience. She was in the mood for Mac N' Cheese, and we saw that Leo's was nearby. When we arrived, around 7:40pm, and the place was basically empty. She ordered a Mac N' Cheese, and proceeded to wait twenty minutes with no progress made. After inquiring about the holdup, we were told that the order was 'on its way.' After another few minutes, she received her order. The Mac N' Cheese itself looks identical to Easy Mac, and was cold to the touch. After going back to switch our order, the plate was re-made in three minutes. I go to this Coney Island 5 days a week and have never been disappointed in either the food nor the service. I am on a very restricted diet and be really careful of what I eat. The staff suggested alternative items (in this case it was using tuna instead of chicken - same salad, just different meat). I appreciate their help/suggestions and their attitudes toward helping someone out. Eating lunch there so often has given me a pretty good feel for what and how they do their jobs. I love watching people who are good at what they do and the staff at lunch are very good at what they do. The staff responds well to friendly customers and politely to the not so friendly (of which I honestly could not do on a repeating basis) ... I have heard and seen both kinds of customers and the staff are consistent. Yes, it is clean, well-lit and tables cleared quickly. This Coney has a pretty wide range of foods (traditional Coney type food, healthy salads and nice dishes that are not deep fried) at decent prices with some things offered that are not necessarily at other Coney (no, they are not all created the same).
