This is the worst Greek food i've ever had. You could do better yourself by picking up the ingredients at the grocery store. This tsatsiki was the consistency of half and half cream or milk, and it tasted like fish. The hummus and the tahini tasted tinny. They must have come straight from a can. The falafel was dried out and obviously not hand-made as each was identical. I suspect they were previously frozen for a long time and definitely overcooked. I threw most of it in the rubbish as it was disgusting. That was a colossal waste of money, and i'm still hungry. Don't do it. read more

I live in the neighborhood and whenever I don't know what to eat for lunch or dinner, this is often on my list of go tos. Parking is always a fight in the lot outside but if you don't mind a short walk, the garage across the street usually has ample parking. As a creature of habit, I tend to get one of two things. Their gyro sandwich $6.99, which I find is the perfect combination of pita, gyro meat, veggies and sauce. Best eaten right away while the pita is hot and crisp on the outside. Left in the wrapper it will condensate and soften the pita and cook the lettuce. I find it to be the perfect serving size to fill my tummy but not over eat. Satisfying, simple but quite tasty! When I'm hungrier, I get the moussaka $9.95. Layers of roasted eggplant and marinated ground beef topped with a creamy cheese sauce. It comes with hummus, salad, rice and one pita. Such a treat! They do close at 8:00pm daily and are cash only. There's a bunch of ATMs inside DQ if you don't have cash. I'm impressed with the consistent good food that they are able to deliver from a kiosk that always comes with a smile. I probably eat here twice a month. I noticed that Leo, the business owner, takes the time to reply back to his customers on here. What a great personal touch to show that he cares about his customer base! read more

So, one positive of this coronavirus pandemic is Central Pacific Bank's Keep Hawaii Cooking incentive to support local eateries. It reimburses customers half of their bill (up to $100) when patronizing participating restaurants. In addition to being a great deal, it's an awesome way to support local businesess, and gives the Mrs and myself an excuse to try different eateries. After a quick look through the list, we spotted Leo's Taverna Express. We both love gyros, so heading here was a no-brainer. Super convenient location - at the entrance of Don Quixote. Parking can be difficult with the Don Quixote crowd, but we had a plan: We called in our order, I drove up, the Mrs jumped out, and a minute later we were driving off with our food! We had the lamb/beef gyros plate, chicken gyros plate, falafel plate and greek fries (french fries served with tzatziki sauce vs ketchup). The gyros plates came with a small salad, hummus, pita bread and seasoned meat on a bed of rice. EVERYTHING was extremely flavorful and there were no leftovers despite the generous portion sizes. I used to go here. The gyros sandwiches are good, except they're a little light on the sauce. Ask for a more they'll only give u a side and charge u $1.20 extra. I don't want that much more sauce, but they refuse to do it any other way. Plus, the tomato situation has always been terrible. U get a few slivers of the end pieces. Pretty decent the second time ordering it from here this year. My wife liked it very much, veggies were fresh, the hummus was warm and the gyro was flavorful as well, the rice was cooked well this time. Nowadays, it is somewhat of a tradition for us to stop at Leo's after a grocery run in Don Quijote. I normally stick to the gyro wrap since it is a classic. However, this past time I decided to try the gyros plate. It came with a salad, hummus, rice, gyro meat, and a pita wrap. Although a plate is more expensive than a normal wrap, it does come with more food and is less messy to eat. Don't forget to order a side of french fries - they are made fresh to order and are deliciously seasoned. Ive been sleeping on Leos Taverna! Im glad I tried them again. Everything was delicious! The hummus is perfectly made with just the right amount of garlic - not too much. I dont have to fetch the ingredients to make my own; I will just buy theirs from now on since its exactly how I like my hummus. Sometimes I get a belly nudge to get a gyro. Today the belly nudged, and I answered. Headed to Don Quixote to find Leo's. Stopped by the ATM first, because Leo's is a cash-only business. Ordered my gyro and patiently waited while I watched them slice the meat off the rotisserie with beef and lamb for my gyro. Nothing fancy, outdoor seating, my gyro was under $10 and quite tasty. Really great food. My family loves their gyros. My parents also really like the gyro salad. I tried an eggplant dish last time (I think it is called Moussaka) and it was so good. It's now my favorite eggplant dish. This is probably one of our favorite places to eat. It is really convenient for us because we shop at Don Quijote often. Despite the countless number of times that I've shopped at Don Quijote(DQ)and have passed this little food stand, I have never bothered to try it even though they seem to always have a steady stream of customers. So this past week as I was running around tackling errands for most of the day, my last stop was at DQ. Feeling a little stressed and exhausted after trying to avoid being clipped in the ankles by the "mature" shopping crowd on Senior Discount Tuesday at DQ, I just wanted to sit for a while and get a quick lunch without having to go too far for it. At about 3pm, there was two people before me waiting for their orders. It's a one man show, and meals are prepared when ordered, so expect to wait a few minutes. I got a Gyro and it was great! Mildly seasoned beef and lamb together with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and thinly sliced onions, were all cozied up inside of a warm and soft flatbread. Tonight I finally remembered this place after doing my grocery shopping at Don Quijote. I was very happy with the quality of my food. I had a standard gyro sandwich. The lamb meat was plentiful, vegetables fresh, pita bread soft and strong, and tzaziki delicious (I was even given extra on request). There was no line, and service was fast in general. I'm a Chicagoan and we know gyros (and we pronounce it correctly too). Leo's serves up Chicago's Kronos meat so I was automatically a fan. All their food is made fresh (can be a bit of a wait but worth it) and perfectly delish. I'd offer a 5-star but my one complaint is they should have more meat in the gyros. I'd be more than happy to pay extra over the $7 if I could feel satiated after lunch. The pita helps to fill you up but I do keto so I'm all meat...and there's just not enough for me. In a little hut located right outside Don Quiote lies this little Greek joint. I love Greek food but am limited to my exposure of it, since Greek food is not the most common food around. Never the less, I so dig this joint, simply for the fact everything feels good for you. This place is pretty straight forward with gyros, falafel, wrapped olive leaves, and my personal favorite, mousaka. Located in Don Q is a little kiosk serving up Greek food. The cashier (not the owner) was very polite and served up my falfafel sandwich in ~10min. Came out to $7.32 w/ lettuce and tomato after tax. I would have liked to have seen gloves changed between handling cash can prepping food, but I beleive she washed her gloves. Falafel was deep fried so not terribly worried about germs XD. The Fries were fried fresh and meticulously seasoned so that every bite was coated in seasoning. The pita bread was soft as a pillow and the sauce was the best I've had. So here's a quick bite to eat place for Greek foods. Whenever there's a show or a con at the Convention centre I usually end up popping by this food court to get some lunch if Ala Moana's food places are cray cray. They have shwarma, dolmates, falafel, moussaka, gyro, spanakopita, etc etc... you know all the great fresh and herby foods from the Mediterranean district. The cooks and workers are all masked up and I think this is just a satellite for a bigger restaurant so the menu is probably a little smaller at this location. It's in the DonQ parking lot on Kaheka. Be prepared for a busy hustle and bustle. Your best bet is to park across the street in the multi-level parking structure and walk over but be careful as there is no light, so you may feel like you're playing Frogger or a game of chicken. It's all take out containers but if you're familiar with the location there are some tables they've opened up for outside dining in Tier 4 of the COVID-19 protocols. read more
