False advertisement The lady even admitted she was wrong, but refused to give me the money back. Then she saw this review and proceeded to beg me to take it down. She stated that she gave me extra. In a not so good part of town, Tenderloin aka TL, sits Lers Ros nestled between crackheads and junkies. Despite its sketchy surroundings, the 4 of us ventured there on a weekday around noon for lunch. We went around the block a few times, but managed to find parking right across the street. Good thing too, at least we won't lose sight of our car while eating! Inside the restaurant, we were transported into a modern interior with simple, clean aesthetics--a safe haven from the rough exteriors of TL. There was only one guy doing it all for the front of the house. He sat us down, took our order, and served us. He also kept our glasses filled with iced water. Only a few tables were occupied, but he also had orders for delivery. One busy guy! *** OUR PICKS *** THAI CURRY PUFFS ~ delicate pastry holding delicious yellow curry filling! Really enjoyed this dish. It was my favorite out of the starters we had. 5/5 THAI HERB SAUSAGE ~ items to be eaten with the sliced sausages: lettuce, lemon slices, peanuts, sliced red onions, and thin julienne slices of ginger. When you put everything together in a lettuce leaf, it brings a unique combination of flavors. Such an amazing and interesting way to eat sausages! 5/5 GRILLED PORK SHOULDER SALAD ~ lots of flavor in the pork. Actually a bit too salty for us. I think they need to add more greens to balance and mellow out the savory pork. There was some cabbage but in big chunks. Maybe if it was thinly shredded, it would have helped. 3.5/5 COMBO SPECIAL YELLOW CURRY CHICKEN, EGGPLANT & TOFU ~ I didn't try this dish as it was a friend's individual lunch plate. She enjoyed this dish, but took most of it home. 4/5 COMBO SPECIAL, BBQ CHICKEN, SPICY SHRIMP IN RED CURRY ~ I didn't try the whole dish as I'm not into really spicy foods. But I did try the BBQ chicken because it wasn't spicy. The basting sauce on the chicken was sweet and savory. Generous amount of tasty chicken was given. 4/5 CRISPY PORK BELLY WITH BASIL ~ our friend had this dish and felt there wasn't enough basil flavor. He was a bit disappointed and rated it a 3/5. DRY TOM YUM NOODLES ~ The highlight of this dish was the roast pork with crispy skin! Medium spiced when you mix all the seasonings with the noodles. I asked for mild, but I don't think it was possible to lessen the spices without taking away Tom Yum flavor. My friends and I stopped by Lers Ros around 8:00 p.m. on a Friday evening and the restaurant was pretty empty. Although we came in a large party of six, we were seated immediately. My wife and I shared two entrees -- the tom yum soup and a fried chicken over fried rice. Food came quickly after we placed our order. With the fried chicken over fried rice dish, the fried chicken was incredibly juicy; I'm certain chicken thigh was the cut that was used. However, although the breading was crispy, it was slightly oily and actually separated from the chicken when picked up with chopsticks. The fried rice is really well done here. Each grain of rice is nicely separated, there are small pieces of fried egg distributed throughout, and it is overall well-seasoned. I thought the tom yum soup here was just average. It's not overly sour nor spicy, it's got a generous portion of rice noodles, and there's a pretty standard amount of toppings in the bowl, including pork meatballs, bean sprouts, ground pork, and fish cakes. I believe I've had more complex, more herbaceous tom yum broths elsewhere. Overall, Lers Ros was a 4-star experience for me. Although the food is closer to 3.5, the good value you get with the large portions for the price and the friendly, attentive service makes up for it. read more

I ate here on a Saturday afternoon. My brother ate at a sister restaurant once before so we went to try this location as a family. There were a lot of homeless people outside and I felt bad for this business. It was pretty empty but a lot of delivery orders were being fulfilled. We ordered black pepper beef, pad see ew with beef, fish cake, hot and sour soup with chicken, grilled beef salad and chili paste eel. We wanted to order the alligator but they ran out. They also ran out of venison that day so we got eel instead. The interior is very nice and clean. The walls have motivation quotes on them. Tables are moveable so large parties can combine them to sit together. Our food started coming after 10 minutes and slowly trickled in. The soup came first and was nice and comforting, albeit simple. The fish cake is good. It has a nice chew and flavorful aroma. The grilled beef was a bit chewy but had good flavor and crust. The eel was not up my alley. It was bitter and had too many bones to be enjoyable. It was not worth eating in my opinion. The pad we ew was excellent. It was flavored well. Our black pepper beef was forgotten but they gave it to us before we left. It was tender but didn't taste that good because it was too salty. Visited Ler Ros in the Tenderloin on a Friday night and was surprised to find the dining room pretty quiet, even though they were busy with lots of takeout orders. We started with the papaya salad, which came out much spicier than the mild we requested. It was fresh and vibrant, just far hotter than expected. We also ordered the pork shoulder, which had good flavor but was unfortunately quite chewy. The crispy catfish was the highlight of the meal, perfectly fried with a light crunch and a flavorful sauce that brought everything together. We had the Tom Kha Kai as well, comforting and aromatic with a nice balance of coconut, lemongrass, and lime. Overall, it's a good spot for Thai comfort food. read more

Came into town last night to see a show at the Great American Music Hall, and stopped by Lers Ros for a quick bite to eat and some drinks before the show. It's right in the middle of the chaos that is the Tenderloin, but if you can stomach wading through the endless sea of downtrodden humanity, encampments, dog poo, and drug use, this is a nice spot to eat. Once you enter the front doors, you are instantly transported to a world of tranquility, good food, and excellent service. The restaurant is quite big, with minimal decor, keeping the focus on service, food, and simplicity. It has a nice bar with seating for 6 with a natural wood top and bar stools. The center of the restaurant is a long banquet table for parties of 12+ The rest of the restaurant has well-spaced, clean, and simple tables for two or four, and everything is bright, airy, and neat. Background music is soft, and unobtrusively loud, allowing for quiet conversation & relaxation. The walls are simple, with just some murals with quotes and information about their history, philosophy, mission statement & influences. It was all clean, simple, and made for interesting reading. We ordered: fresh coconut milk, jasmine tea, rice, cashew nut tofu, and silver noodle salad to keep things lite and healthy for the night ahead. The $8 coconut milk was very fresh, and quite large enough to justify the high price. It was cold, refreshing, and tasty! The silver noodle salad was a bit complicated to eat, with huge chunks of cabbage that should have been cut up to blend in better. The lime marinade ended up pooling at the bottom of the dish, so it didn't really mix in well with the other ingredients, so you had to spoon it out and pour it over your serving. The noodles were too long and were difficult to eat with a fork, chopsticks & slurping them would have been better. The cashew nut tofu was very good & it was very plentiful in tofu, cashew nuts, and chili peppers. Not overly spicy, but just right. The amount of food that we got for $40 was perfect, and everything tasted very good & fresh. My only criticism was that it was served in a way that made it difficult to eat with a fork, cutting things up into more manageable pieces would have been much better. Service was stellar. The three nice Thai waitresses hustled around the entire restaurant incessantly during a busy Tuesday night dinner rush. They were attentive, polite, demure, and professional. The kept the water refilled, brought out new clean plates, and explained the menu very well. Had a good meal here last night. This is one of the stand out places that I've eaten at in the Tenderloin. It is clean, peaceful, and has a nice atmosphere inside. I really liked the minimalistic decor, which lent to focusing solely on food & service. Everything that we ate & drank was fresh, tasty, and fairly inexpensive. My only criticism was how the food was served, it made it difficult to eat with a fork. Ingredients were too big and could've been cut smaller, or, we could have been given chopsticks or a knife. But, I would come back here again to try out some noodle or rice or soup dishes, maybe I'll just bring my own utensils. This is a nice food oasis in an area that isn't so nice! read more

Really solid spot for Thai food. We came by after our initial dinner plans fell through and I didn't expect much from Lers Ros as it was empty when we visited for Saturday dinner but the food turned out to be really great! The menu is huge so it was hard deciding what to order but we ended up getting the raw shrimp salad, grilled beef salad, thai herb sausage, and pineapple fried rice. We got medium spice for everything and it was just perfect! First, the raw shrimp salad was so flavorful with lime, lemongrass, chili and garlic. Don't be turned off by raw shrimp, it really just adds to the freshness and it's a great way to start the meal. Next, the beef salad and thai herb sausage. Loved the Northern-style sausage, especially with the lemon pieces and the beef salad was solid as well but the beef itself was a bit chewy. Finally the pineapple fried rice - I haven't had it in a while but they make it really well here and the veggie, tofu, egg option is a great way to get in more veggies. The cooked pineapple was really sweet and the portion is large enough to share between 3-4 people! Lers Ros is a fairly unassuming restaurant but has really great flavors, would definitely come here again despite the not so great location near the tenderloin. read more

Got takeout from here and it was honestly pretty good! The pad see ew had great flavor and was super satisfying. The pork could have been in smaller pieces but I liked the flavor (it was thinner pork rather than thicker slices I usually see at other thai spots). The portion was smaller than expected though for $18. I also tried the crispy chicken over fried rice and the rice was yummy! I didn't love the flavor of the crispy chicken, and because it was takeout, it wasn't super crispy anymore. The portion of rice was a lot bigger than the pad see ew which I appreciated. read more

I really liked this restaurant. I'm always a big fan of Thai food (granted I ordered the same 3-5 things everytime). This time I got the Pad See Ew, Green Curry, and Mango Sticky Rice. The pad see ew was good but definitely could have used more spice to add a kick to it. The green curry was AMAZING. I really really liked it and will definitely order more in the future. It was spicy and punchy and tasted great. This was my first time ever getting mango sticky rice and I personally enjoyed it. The service was good and the restaurant had a good vibe. We were in a corner table off to the side so didn't really get a strong feel for the restaurant's ambiance, but were able to people watch from the window. The Lers Ros empire has arguably the most authentic Thai cuisine in SF and this is the OG location that started it all. Not the most pleasant neighborhood in the pandemic aftermath but more unique dishes make the trek worth it. Yes they have the standard Thai dishes like the traffic light curries and pad thai, but I love the noodle soups here. Boat noodles, kuay jub, beef tendon noodles, and the roast duck noodles. Excellent spot for group lunches! Recently dined as part of a party of 9 and we were served and out of there in time to get back to work. Plenty of options for all cravings and preferences from their extensive menu. Getting a lunch combo is the way to go if you want to sample a couple of dishes without having to stab at someone else's plate haha! Or just come back again. Had a chance to try Lers Ros a while back and overall liked my experience here even though the service felt a little rushed. This joint is located in the tenderloin area so can be a little sketch to get there, but the food is unique and tasty. This place has some interesting things to try if you are interested like alligator, frog, venison etc, but it also boasts all the Thai OG dishes. There is a lot of options from things you can order whether you are going traditional or experimental. During my time here I tried the pad see ew with chicken which was very flavorful and delicious. I enjoyed every bite here and the flavors felt authentic. I also tried the green curry here which was also delicious. I definitely went traditional here, but want to come back to try the experimental dishes next time! read more

Shame on me for never doing a review on Lers Ros until now. I've frequented this place more than any Thai place in the city. It's the best Thai I've had in the city certainly. I've had like 8 different things here and it's always reliable. There's some real adventurous stuff on the menu that I can't go for. But your typical Thai offerings are all money. This place has multiple locations which always worries me when it comes to consistent quality. I can't tell you what to get because it's all been good. Is there better Thai food in the world? Get delivery if you don't want to dine in but I feel they have the most authentic and flavorful menu. So good, can't go wrong here! Seven of us went in for lunch today. We ordered 13 dishes and every single dish was delicious! The food was super authentic. I enjoyed crab roll cake the most. I have had this dish at so many places but Lers Ros by far tastes the best and each one is HUGE! It's a bit pricey but the portion overall was big so it was worth it. Koh Moo Yang was also very yummy and the sauce that came with it was amazing. All other dishes were delicious as well (see my pictures for references but could only posted 10 pictures). Pad see ew was a bit bland for me but not too bad. The service was very good and friendly! The server was very nice. We wanted to order more but she stopped us first and it's good that she did lol We would not have been able to finished it. All filler little food! For $20 a dish we got measly little portions where half the box was a large chunk of cabbage or full of sprouts. I didn't pay $20 for cabbage or sprouts. Finally got a chance to try this Larkin St location out. In a no nonsense neighborhood in the tenderloin no doubt, but everyone says this is the holy Grail. Being in an authentic neighborhood where the food is excellent I guess it's the place to be. If you like spicy, this is the place for you. They really have spicy food we had The skewers. We had the pan fried rice noodle, and we had yellow curry, shrimp, and some pork dish, which I can't remember what it was, but it was really well received. We also had the soup which was really spicy, which we started laughing because one of our friends asked for additional spices and they brought the three spices that you can add to stuff in one of them was crazy hot and then it was already so hot. I would put it as the highest scale that I normally can handle, but I'm sure for Thai food. It's a half scale hot for them, but it's very authentic the freshness the kitchen, the attentive staff they were checking in with us they, I even overheard them said that they can make things less spicy if you don't like your dish, they gave us copious amount of water. But what a great time the plate settings are really nice. I have to call that out because it's really a simple backdrop, but the table service and how nice the China is in the menus are excellent and just the personal service adds a simple but yet elegant backdrop for the grade dishes and the service staff at this location worked till 11 PM which is a miracle in San Francisco on a weeknight. This is an oasis and a desert of food and you know to watch out for your personal safety this area so do you take a lift here but this place is a beacon of light and I'm so glad we ate here and all my friends were thrilled. read more
