She took my vacuum apart on the spot and offered me five different options to take care of my vacuum issue. She took the time to explain the pros and cons of each option along with the varying price options (a true show of knowledge). Then she let me make my own decision based on my preference and budget. I took my pool cleaner in for repair and the employee helping me did a good job. It turned out there were multiple parts needed which they ordered from the supplier. As the cleaner was still under warranty, the fixes did not result in any charge for me. Been using the cleaner for the last couple of days and it is working as expected. I've shopped here several times for pool chemicals. Granted, Saturdays can be busy and I expect to wait. But when I shop on a Wednesday after 5pm, both employees are moving at a snail's pace and then blatantly wait on a customer who came in after me, then I'm done spending my money there. I went to Ace Hardware and wad in and out in 5 minutes. Four years ago we paid an exorbitant price to have a new high efficiency pump installed. Two weeks ago that pump started leaking. Leslie's wanted another ridiculous amount to fix it so I reached out to a different pool repair company. Today my pump is fixed but the issue was caused by the installer. The rubber bushing that bears the weight of the housing was never installed which put pressure on the housing and caused it to crack. I will never use Leslie's incompetent services again and I do not recommend that you waste money there. Find a professional. One star is one too many. read more

Charles, the manager, is ONE of the most HELPFUL and COURTEOUS people I have ever met in a retail environment. He explains procedures and the measuring of the confusing amounts of chemicals to use. My 5 star rating is all due to assistant manager August. This was our first season having an above ground pool, so we didn't know to much about maintenance, supplies none of that. My husband purchased a huge Legacy Brand pool, just about a 10,000 gallon above ground pool for our family and so we turned to Leslie's Pool Supply store for help with just about everything. EVERYTIME we have come into the store we have been greeted very nicely and even given a time on when we would be next to get help in water testing or questions. We had decided that we wanted to purchase a sand filtration system and they helped us with pricing and different brands and even gave a is a nice little discount! I go into Leslie's at least once a month to have our pool water tested **FOR FREE** and have been dealing with mostly August when I'm there. She makes it a Point to explain how the testing works and what exactly I need to do if my pool doesn't have enough Chlorine, PH levels all that, without rushing. The print out of what we have to do to maintain and or fix what needs to be fixed is awesome. One tip is if you do need your pool tested, best bet is going as soon as they open and try to avoid going on Friday or even Saturday for testing. They open at 9am and close at 6! read more

I went there to find more info about the motor I needed for my pool pump, the store manager came up with all kinds of b.s. trying to make me hire a technician and he also lied about the motor I needed saying those motors are illegal in California and no one ships them out to this state of CA.......all lies..... for those who had not much experience fixing stuff go on line there is plenty of places and resources where you will find parts and videos of how install them.... even in You Tube...... Thank you Leslie's pool on Standiford, Modesto, specially the manager at the time I was there. I gave this place one star because their doors were open. When you call they put you on hold and never come back. I called 3 times. Put on hold. They never came back. I wanted to test my pool water. So I drove there. Big mistake. The guy didn't know what he was doing. Threw two tests in the trash. Another worker came over. His job was to watch. Never offered to help. THEN THE GUY WHO WAS HELPING ME. STARTS TESTING THE NEXT CUSTOMER'S WATER. He just gave up! Without a word. He just started testing the water of the next customer in line. Screwed that up too. I called him on it and he ignored me. As I was leaving I heard Mr. Incompetence manage a whimper "Have a nice day". I guess that was his shot at sarcasm. I was surprised that there was a life form present. I've read other reviews. The same thing happens to other customers. STAY AWAY! Go to the other location on Orangeburg. They're helpful. I don't recommend taking your sweeper in. I took mine apart. I know exactly what part it needed. A belt. It's a little difficult to get to the belt behind the wheel, so I had them look at it. They broke the timer part. Told me it was broken already. It wasn't. Two parts, plus their "free labor" repair is $148. Amazon sells the belt kit for $20. This place is great for chemicals in a pinch, and free water checks of you have an issue. Staff is always friendly. Just irritating to have them break a part and not own up to it. That and the 700% markup. read more

The five star rating goes to Kristin, Jenn and Miranda. All three of these women take their jobs seriously and clearly have the customer's needs and best interest first and foremost. I worked with both Jenn and Kristin. They are very knowledgeable, worked hard to solve my problems and gave good advice. I ordered a filter pump and I am very happy with the selection. The Standiford Road store and staff get a five star rating. On the down side, the installer gets a lower rating. He was a good technician and did a good job installing the equipment. He was on time, and, he called 30 minutes prior to arrival. In that area I give him a 4. The position of the equipment requires that I read the monitor upside down, and, the installer put the stick on instructions on the lid cover where it is impossible to read. He needed to check with me. He did a very poor job explaining how to operate the system, and he did not ask me how I wanted it programmed. In that area he gets a 1. I went to YouTube to learn how to program the filter pump. Leslie's needs work on the service division. I had a poor experience with another service recommendation originated out of the Coffee Road Store. I will review that location separately. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT ORER ANYTHING ONLINE FROM LESLIE'S! I realize that the online operation may not have anything to do with the actual retail stores other than supposedly giving them an online presence, but the online ordering service is TERRIBLE. I placed an order this morning for Chlorine Tablets, which the site said was in stock. It would not allow me to select the option for delivery so I chose the only available option, which was to pick up in store. By 5:30 pm I still had not gotten any email that my order was ready to be picked up, so I'm thinking; how long can it take to just grab one bucket off the shelf? I called the store and they had no record whatsoever of my order even though it was PREPAID. They also said that the receipt that I got from their website was no good and that I would have to pay again. WTF? Really? I have never even heard of such a ridiculous operation as this! If you want to order anything pool related online, avoid Leslie's like you avoid COVID! read more

I never really know what to expect when I walk into this place. Some days the service is so awesome and the sales people are falling at your feet to help you. Other days...Well I curse myself for even setting foot in the parking lot. On the plus side the staff is usually very knowledgeable about the products and services offered by Leslies. My one and only experience in this store was like something from the twilight zone. I went in to get a pool vacuum and chlorine. I left more than an hour later extremely hot, annoyed, and vowing never to go back. They didn't have the air conditioning on, so it was miserably hot in there. It's a small store, and there were not enough people working because the line was wrapping around the store. Everyone in line was about to lose their minds. The employees were horribly rude...maybe because of the heat, but it didn't excuse their rudeness. If I had not been having company over that night, I would have left my items at the checkstand and walked away. It was that bad. read more

I find it ridiculous that only ONE person works here at a time. I have been sometimes when there are two employees but most of the time, there is only one. Unless the other one is hiding in the back somewhere. It's beyond ridiculous having to wait in line for over 20 minutes just to purchase one thing. The gentlemen working there had two customers before us that he was talking to for so so so long! He could've just rang us up real quick so we could get out but no, his common sense was off duty that day. The staff isn't the most helpful either when asked questions about pools. Probably the worst customer service I have had the displeasure of dealing with ever. I wanted to call the store to find out about a price. After ringing for about three minutes a lady picked up and said she had to put me on hold. I was on hold for TWENTY minutes. While I was on hold I could hear the phone ring and her put EVEN MORE people on hold. I could also hear her walking around chatting with her co-workers like she had nothing to do. After twenty minutes I decided to hang up and try calling again, maybe I would get her attention. After FIVE MINUTES OF RINGING she picked up and immediately hung up on me. What kind of people do that to potential customers?! That's awful and they need to talk to whoever was on the phone that day. Also in case a Rep. reads this, this was June 21, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. I have been purchasing all of my pool supplies from Leslie's for the last four years, everything. There was an issue, I needed warranty support on a variable speed pump. Whoever rang up the sale failed to enter my information in to their system. The store manager and Leslie's stepped up and made sure that pump and water got back to normal. I order a lid for my filter pump and they said they would call me when it came in, and guess what, NO CALL! I had to call them and find out if it was in! To top it off, IT WAS THE WRONG LID! Okay... Status update. poor customer service. Now I've received the run around from their district manager "Jason" who has seemed to fallen off the face of the earth. Not sure whats the deal with this company. I just seem to get disrespected left and right. I regret ever having shopped at their store. follow up to post written 4/29/13 So I was buying some pool supplies at Leslie's Pools. I bought some plaster patch, and waited a bit to ask the manager about some pool paint. Store started filling up quickly so I opted to return another time rather than wait. As I was getting into my truck an employee ran out to meet me.... LE (Leslie's Employee) "Did you pay for that item?" Me "Are you serious?!" LE "I got a call to check your receipt" Me "Are you accusing me of stealing?" LE "I didn't say that... I just asked if.." Truck gets slammed into Park. I was hot! But I kept my cool.... As if producing a receipt wasn't enough, he had to double check that the product numbers matched. I asked to speak to his manager, he tried blowing me off. After refusing to leave without speaking to one, he fessed up. Turns out he is the manager. I don't have anything against Leslie's Pool but they made a big mistake hiring a bigot like "Terry" ( wouldn't give me a last name) of Store 340, District 6. corner of Standiford and Prescott. He didn't even apologize after confirming my purchase. I left feeling really embarrassed and disrespected. You don't treat people this way. Less than useless. They keep next to nothing on shelf or in stock. What is on shelf is never what you need. Their answer to all questions seems to be " No, but I can order it for you". Brilliant, that does nothing for me when my flexhoses spring leaks and my pool is draining by the minute. They sell 1.5" flexhose (the most popular size), but this year AND last year, they didn't have it when I needed it! Buyer pass by and go the extra 9 miles to Gordo's on Yosemite. read more

Store is extremely unorganized, there's never enough staff working, and they are extremely expensive. The people are nice though.

We took our pool pump in for diagnostic service being told on Sunday that there was just one other pump ahead of ours and it would be looked at with in 72 hrs. Well 72 hrs later the stand in manager told us he meant at least 72 hrs, that they had a bunch of pool sweeps ahead of us. Really, pool sweeps, you can function without a pool sweep but not without your pool water being filtered. He was rude and totally unhelpful. Their lack of knowledge was astounding. It has been four days now and still no word from them. I would suggest you never use them unless you know exactly what you need and are only purchasing chemicals. read more

I needed a handle for my Jandy pump and I called the day before I went to the store. The person I talked to said they had 1 left. The next day when I got there Terry, the store manager who helped me, said someone came in the day I called and picked it up. He thought it must have been me because it happened right after my call. He said he was very sorry and looked around the store to check for sure if they had another one. When they didn't, he went and took the handle off of a brand new pump and gave me that one. I'm a new pool owner and heard about Leslie's through my neighbor. When I went to the store, I thought they would just sell me a bunch of stuff and send me on my way. Instead, one of the ladies spent a good amount of time taking me through how to take care of my pool. I have been shopping at the Leslie's on Standiford for many years. Yes, they are busy during the summer and yes, you may have to wait but they are worth the wait. I take my water to have it tested and get all my chemicals and other supplies here. The chemicals are superior to anything else you can find. I went in today to buy some sand for my pool, after waiting for at least 20min i finally got helped told him i needed sand for my pool and he said he only had 7 bags and they were on hold. he said the delivery truck was unloading some and it would be awhile ask if i would come back later. dont know why he couldnt just get a bag from the seven so i could be on my way but he didnt.so i left and went to gordo pools on yosemite and i didnt have to wait, got my sand and left. leslies is closer to me but from now on i will be going to gordo's. sales people are polite and helpfull. read more
