I had a fabulous experience here. First, their Almond Croissant was out of this world. When I was a child, I loved these things. However, most bakeries today really skimp on the good ingredients/fillings/frosting. The almond croissant here was very moist, filled with the most delicious filling and a full coat of the right thickness of frosting. I asked them to put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds and some butter to go on top of that. Second, it's about the first time I've been able to find both a decent and stellar brand of champagne at an airport. I don't care for beer, hard liquor and cheap champagnes. They had 2-3 options and I got to finally enjoy a nice glass of my kind of wine while waiting for the plane to arrive. This place is the worst. I travel a lot, and Southwest is my airline of choice, so I spend a lot of mornings in Midway just trying to get a healthy breakfast before my flight. Since Midway doesn't have a Starbucks (seriously, it's 2015), I have spent many months on a personal quest to answer this one question: where, in Midway, can a gal get some oatmeal?!?!? At first, I discovered Let Them Eat Cake-- which has two locations in Midway. I was elated! Finally, I had found a place that I can buy oatmeal (with nuts and dried fruit)! However, I would say about 70% of the time, they are actually OUT of oatmeal. Doesn't matter what time you get there. Sometimes one location will have it and the other won't... sometimes both won't. If that wasn't weird enough, the people here are beyond rude. Anyway, I discovered that Manny's and Tuscany Cafe both have oatmeal, if anyone is wondering! read more

Airport food is... airport food. You do not always have a huge selection and sometimes need to settle. This little bakery/cafe was adorable. I grabbed a bagel and coffee before my flight and was very surprised as to how good the coffee and bagel were for being in an airport. read more

I know I run the risk of raising the average here, but I got a small cheese kolacki and thought it tasted pretty good, so I would go back for that. Nothing too crazy to rave about, but if you're having a craving for some cake this is one of the few places in this concourse that has a good selection of cakes. I ended up trying the carrot cake, it was pretty moist and the frosting wasn't too sweet. But the cake tastes like any typical carrot cake, nothing special but not awful by any means. It's a flipping baked good store in the airport. The lady at the counter was actually very attentive and she was super nice. The coffee is the usual Chicago coffee. Then I figured out there's a raspberry cheesecake. Need I say more?! It was moist and tasty. I could overlook the long line of desperate travelers made shorter only be people giving up in despair, dumping their unpurchased items back on the shelf. I could feel sympathy for the unhappy staff moving slow as molasses despite the huge line. But when I finally got to the counter, I asked to buy coffee and banana and fill my travel mug with hot water, and was told I would have to pay $2.20 for hot water. I have been traveling non-stop this year and have never been asked to pay for hot water into my own cup (always making a purchase of another item). What an insult. Avoid at all costs. read more

I didn't think the place was all that bad but then maybe my other airport experiences have been worse. The lady on staff was actually very nice and had a positive attitude. Even though the "house rule" suggests that seating at the bar is for bar patrons only she allowed me to take a seat anyway. This was much appreciated since I was fairly sick at the time and security had left me drained. I had a slice of "du monde" chocolate cake and it was fine. Again, I had a cold, so maybe my sense of taste wasn't the sharpest. Still, I didn't have a horrible experience like most people on here. read more

I am a corporate traveler hoping to grab a quick lunch during a 40 minute layover. I purchased a salad and raw veggies here ( which totaled $18) and attempted to sit at the empty bar to eat quickly and was rudely told by the server I couldn't sit there unless i ordered a drink. I said I could order a coke and she rolled her eyes so I paid and left. If I had ordered a 4 dollar beer I could have sat down but apparently let them eat cake treats non alcohol drinking ( but paying patrons) like dirt. I will never return here. I just tried for the third time in a month to buy a bagel and coffee before my 6 a.m. Flight. I failed for a third time just like the first two. The staff is incompetent, unprepared and just plain can't communicate. I have waited in the relatively short line for no less than 15 minutes and have never made it to place an order. If you look down the corridor, Mcdonalds line is 3-4 times longer but move 2-3 times faster. Don't be fooled by the short line. It's short for a reason other than fast service. read more

I entered this establishment on 3/10/2012 because I figured they would have some halfway decent cakes to try. After a few minutes, I decided on one and paid for it. They have tables, but all of the chairs (except one today) were at the bar. I began moving one chair from the bar to a table (a two or three foot move - I am not exaggerating, it really is that close) and I was quickly ambushed by three angry employees - "YOU CANT DO THAT!! THE CHAIRS AREN'T ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE BAR!!!" The feminine brouhaha was loud enough that everyone around was staring. I then heard them say to each other, "Next think you know, people will steal the chairs." These are high stools with a back - maybe 5 feet tall. I can't imagine any rational person concluding that someone could steal a chair that large inside an airport past the security check points. There is no where to go with a stolen chair, let alone one as large as those which I am describing. I didn't bother arguing about the other customer sitting in a chair (the "except one" referenced earlier) at a table that was obviously taken from the bar (but also, as the others, obviously designed to match the tables). I would like to know (and I knew the staff present were not intelligent enough to give a reasonable answer) why there are tables at all if people aren't allowed to sit there? You are not supposed to eat food standing, but I suppose one reason could be that the materials sold there don't quite qualify as food. If they don't want people eating there - oops, I mean poisoning themselves - perhaps they should remove the tables and chairs all together. Other "restaurants" have no seating at this airport, so it is not as though a precedent has not been set. I ordered a piece of the "white chocolate mousse" cake. There was nothing resembling mousse, and furthermore, the cake was dry and overall lackluster. Having said that, compared to the attitude of the staff, the cake was brighter than the sun. read more

This review is for the chocolate croissant I had from here. I was in the mood for a donut but after walking three airport blocks and failing to find a Dunkin Donuts, I decided to try this place. I knew it was too early in the morning for cake but saw a large line for coffee so decided to go for it. I was initially considering the long john (which I ruled out when I found out it wasn't cream-filled). The chocolate croissant looked really good so I decided on that instead. Bad move. It was terrible. The worst chocolate croissant I've ever had. It was completely stale (which makes eating a croissant like eating packing peanuts) and the chocolate tasted artificial. I really wish I had walked another two airport blocks for a Dunkin Donuts instead. In fact, I'm still hungry and disappointed so I might just do that now. The clerk who was standing there with nothing to do and no customers, wouldn't even tell me what kinds of muffins they had- and they're not self serve, she HAD to walk ALL THE WAY OVER (4 feet) and help me anyway because I actually wanted one. Made the mistake of purchasing the focaccia sandwich with ham at a whopping $8.99. Probably the worst sandwich I've ever had in an airport. Asked the clerk if she could warm it up for me. She said yes, and put the sandwich in its flimsy plastic container in the microwave, thereby partially melting the plastic container, no plate offered. The listed wine choices on the menu were not what was served-- what we got was the half-gallon jug variety served in plastic cups, at $7.00.
