It's always freshly baked but it even better when they just come out of the oven. Bakery smells absolutely incredible. I believe they also serve the Wanderlust Collab at this location (I saw posters for it). I had only ever tried Levine once in New York and came back again to get a chocolate walnut cookie (their best seller). My cousin graciously brought over a box of 6 different cookies - rocky road, chocolate peanut butter, chocolate chip, chocolate chip walnut, caramel coconut, and double chocolate chip. We cut eat cookie in quarters so we can each have a cookie tasting party (there were 3 of us). The cookies are slightly crisp on the outside and inside is more cake-like, and some like a dense brownie (the chocolate ones). They were good and very rich. Went for their ice cream bucket hat promotional event and got an affogato! For the morning, there was barely a line. The associates are very personable, they take your order and retrieve it in the same transaction if they can. The coffee for the affogato is really good. Levain is one of the many cutesy shops in the Larchmont village area. Just a couple of minutes away from the grove, I like to stop by whenever I'm in the area and see what's new. This evening I decided to try Levain. I arrived around 6pm and there was a long line out the door. Once you get inside you see a cute set up of merch, a window of fresh baked goods and even a window where you see the bakers making the cookies. It was really cool to see the process of how these larchmont favorite cookies be made. I saw that they were promoting a new cookie: the chocolate coffee toffee cookie, but I was a little disappointed to find out it contained almonds as I don't really care for nuts in my cookies. I opted out of that one this time around and selected the oatmeal raisin and the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. These cookies were by far one of the best I've had. They have a crispy outer crust similar to a biscuit, but the inside is soft, buttery and gooey. The oatmeal raisin had some of the most plump and juicy raisins and the chocolate cookie had a warm gooey chocolate center that is definitely not worth counting the calories...JUST ENJOY! Any location of Levain is just about my favourite place in the world, but visiting the furthest-west outpost in the US-and-A while I was in town for the Dodgers-Orioles series was a whole new level of exciting for me after visiting the Chicago and NYC locations. I must collect visits to them all, even as they continue to add new ones back in NYC. Like a normal person, I first learned of Levain through the incredibly-relatable eyes of Arthur James Seuss in Becky Albertalli's What If It's Us, since Arthur was so lovingly drawn as a three dimensional character, which was so nice to have a loveable character enter the zeitgeist rather than the weltschmerz. I have to assume as well as she did portraying the magick of Levain in the book (as well as at least mentioning, if not reviving, the old classics of Waffle House, ferris wheels, and Elliott Smith from the Simon-verse), since 2018 she gets some impressive kind of royalty from my (and others') cookie purchases at five bucks a throw each visit. No matter how many locations of Levain I visit they never ask me "Did Becky send you?" like a speakeasy password. But Becky sent me. I have never "lived" in LA but I have spent a lot of time here for bidness so my knowledge of the city has gaps based on where the bidness was at, and it was almost exclusively in Santa Monica, Anaheim, and Bell (which enthralled me because of Bell's prominence in the ethos of Deep Space Nine, the show that taught me more about life than just about any other) so there is a lot of the big fancy city I have still not seen and been seen in yet. When I looked at the map real zoomed-out-like to gander where Levain was actually located in Larchmont, it was about halfway between Pantry x Madhappy and Dodgers Stadium as my two super-tourist landmarks for myself so I would not need to go incredibly out of my way between the non-cookie highlights of LA (as far as my wardrobe is concerned) to obtain happiness in a cookie here. With limited exception, when you have been to one Levain you know what to expect. If there is a line (these days) it moves fast, no more 20+ minutes like at the original location before the brand really took off thanks to Becky Albertalli, unless some other pop culture icon has built their own competing legion of cookie aficionados with mentions of Levain in a rap tune or something similar. "The double" is the cool nickname for their most legendary offering, but the trade name is the two chip chocolate chip cookie if you must be formal about it. Since I was visiting in Augtober, with Starbies already having dropped their PSL menu earlier than ever before, I was hoping to finally procure the pumpkin ginger loaf in addition to the double. When I hit the road to cities that host multiple Levain locations for my beloved Blackhawks that time of the year is always after the pumpkin stuff is usually off of the menu, so this was my first time in a Levain this time of year to hope to try their pumpkin attempts, all thanks to the legendary Ohtani/Holladay matchup. Unfortunately, the pumpkin ginger loaf was weeks away from dropping I was told by the order taker at this location. Firstly, this is a yuge location, certainly the largest by square feet of customer floor space in any location I have been in. These stores normally have a small footprint where customers go and the bakery part takes up the rest of the store. There was enough room here in this store to have a catch with Uncle Rico - indoors. Despite this being chaotic, busy Larchmont out on the streets and sidewalks, the inside of the store was tranquil. There was no line so I had to think fast at the register about my order since they were sans pumpkin ginger loaf and not joining the masses in celebrating Augtober. The service was just as kind and brand-positive as you would expect from any of their locations, except for the blip in experience I had at the original location one time. The yuge store lent itself to having a nice accessories counter where you could take photos of your cookie, self-serve grab some napkins, and hang out -- out of the way of the line at the register, which you cannot do in most of the other locations since you are in someone's way in a small store footprint elsewhere. Good customer service. Plenty of personal space in the store. Cool mural on the exterior of the store. Located in a busy/chaotic area along Larchmont with heavy sidewalk and street traffic - it reminded me of the West Loop location in Chicago as the closest comparison to any prior location I have visited yet. At this location they follow the Levain playbook to the T to craft the standard insanely delicious double. It wasn't the blue milk at Disneyland (my little treat for myself after getting an alleged "high score" as a pilot my very first time on Smuggler's) or the dole whip at the top deck of Dodger Stadium I had to trek up from 101LG, but this divine cookie was still one of the best things I ate all week in LA. read more

Not going to lie...this was a little dessert trip I DID NOT mean to embark on, but my bestie enabled me to try the infamous Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookie that's practically the size of a muffin top. People huddled in line for all kinds of items but all I recall is the whiff of freshly baked treats out of the ovens. Heaven. Pristine. I took home the classic chocolate chip cookie and vegan walnut chocolate chip cookie. It was incredible trying this sugary boulder more so for the hype and experience. However, when I really try to dig into what stood out to me compared to other bakeries I've been to and other cookies I've tried, not much else comes to mine besides the unique nature of the cookies. They're too sweet for my liking and it took days for me to finish them (freeze if you really have to). Personally, I liked the vegan walnut and chocolate chip cookie way better since it's not as monotone. I bought it. 99% of all blueberry muffins I have ever had are good. Not great and they give me a stomach ache with coffee. This was, bar none, the BEST BLUEBERRY MUFFIN I have EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!! Not too sweet!!!!!!!!!! Most have WAY too much added sugar. I was afraid it was going to be sweet cause of a dusting of sugar on the top but not so. This thing was BANGINGLY GOOD!! I ate with with a cup of strong coffee and felt very nice afterward. I'm gonna be back for another one. read more
