Best haircut I've gotten in the city. I've lived here for about 5 years now. I've tried multiple shops. It's always a hit or miss-- I have thick hair (I'm mixed race) that's hard to cut, but they cut it perfectly. Not only do they cut it perfectly, it grows out perfectly as well. I constantly need haircuts because once it grows a little bit, it looks ugly. Boris, however, told me that he's super conscious of how hair grows out-- he knew exactly what he was talking about! The person who complained, however, was rude to the staff constantly talking down to them. He was angry because of a 2$ charge that his own credit card company tried to charge him (not the store). Was hesitant to write this review...because I'm afraid if too many people hear about this place, I'll have to wait longer for a hair cut! Seriously though, this shop is awesome. Upscale, salon-type atmosphere with a corner-barbershop attitude and price. The shop is immaculate and really nicely decorated, with a flat-screen TV and plenty of magazines to read while you're waiting. The guys there can do it all, from fades and blowouts to layered cuts and styling. In addition to haircuts, they always clean up your sideburns and trim your beard if you like them to. After the cut, they give you a hot towel and brief scalp massage. And to top it off, a complimentary beverage is offered on your way out. I mean, can you beat that for $20 in the city?? There seems to be a bit of turnover with some of the barbers, but the core group of guys are always there. The wait can be a bit long at times, but everyone there is friendly and you can usually get seated pretty quickly if you're not picky about who cuts your hair. After my previous experience with an UES barber, I had to try another shop and Level Two was the one. I walked by and it seemed very crowded so I kept walking. The barber near the door (a guy) noticed this and opened the door to get me inside. OK, I went. I was seated by the only short, female barber in the shop. (Not sure why that always happens to me.) I was resigned to having a bad haircut again since shorter barbers can't see the top of my head without lowering the barber chair and this one did not lower it. Well, it turns out the chair can not be lowered; it's not that kind of barber chair. (That's two UES barbers without chairs that can be raised and lowered. Weird.) So what did the short, female barber do? She asked me to scoot down so she could see the top. It's not the most comfortable way to have your hair cut but I was very pleased to have her ask rather than go home and see an unblended haircut for the next month. (That had been my previous UES experience.) The barber listened to everything I said and when she asked if I wanted the back cut straight, I said I didn't know there were other options. She gave me another option, I took it, she cut it thusly and this morning I woke up with a great cut! The hair/mutton chops/mustache cut was $30 plus I gave $10 as a tip. Cash only. read more

I went to Level Two Barbershop today and i have to say i had the best haircut, that I have had in a long time. Boris was there and he sat me down with no wait, took a look at my hair, and gave me the perfect haircut for my face. Having been in california for the last 17 years, i forgot what happens when a master barber, works on you, his scissor work was impeccable, it was as though I was was watching an artist cut my hair and not one of your robotic barbers in chains all across america. I am a person who is extremely loyal to the person who cuts my hair and a frequent flyer (~one hair cut per week). I have been going to the same barber down in Miami for over 5 years, so to say he is one of the best you can take my word for it! This is the best barbershop, both in the skill of the barbers and the overall ownership, I've ever been to while living in NYC. I've been going here for 4 years and Boris (the owner) is fantastic. As an actor I need to maintain a consistent look and there is nobody I trust more. However, his other staff has cut my hair too and they are also great.
