The Library Bar is just the coziest warm place tucked right in the corner of the Roosevelt hotel. Tucked away from all the Hollywood craziness, it is glamour from a different era. First, I love all the dark wood. You feel like you are actually in an old library. I want to come back, sit and read a book while I sip a cocktail. I went for a private tasting of the Library Bar cocktails today. I had about 4 or 5 tastes of different cocktails. Wow ! These are gourmet and delicious ! Fresh herbs, fresh veggies, fresh fruit - and the best alcohol ! Yummy ! My favorite drink was something with Violets and Grappa. My second favorite was a mojito with fresh herbs. And a blood orange margarita. And a really fancy gimlet - arugula, lime, agave and gin.... Wow ! Matthew Biancaniello is the Library mixologist and he invents these wonderful drinks. He is more of a gourmet chef - watch him at the bar with all his herbs, mixing everything perfectly. I highly recommend the Library bar if you want a nice fancy upscale cocktail that is totally out of this world. read more

This Library Bar differs in many ways from the Original Downtown location. Mainly because of the absolute lack of actual Books. However it works nicely as a Small and Very intimate hide away bar. No drink menu at all, just tell the Bar Tender what you like and he'll either make your drink or make one up if you'd like. Unfortunately the bottle selection is not as diverse as I'd prefer... Each type of Spirit is represented by only a few choices from decent to good, but nothing Great . Lounge-y place to be seen. Sort of interesting vibe- some sort of regular Joes, which is something you don't see much in LA, then the pretty girls and the guys who are out chick hunting. The cocktails are great. Cannot recall what it was that I had, but it had passion fruit and St. Germaine in it. Yummy. One thing I disliked is that it is incredibly dark- it was a hair shy on mood lighting and closer to bedtime lighting. I wanted to check out the bowling alley upstairs, but they wouldn't let me. Will probably go back to check it out. Overall, wouldn't go back for the Library Bar, but perhaps the bar on the roof during the summer or bowling later on. Still, beautiful building, great architecture. The vibe feels a little fragmented, but then you're spaced out so far in the lounge that it probably wouldn't come to your attention. read more

From reading the reviews about matt and hearing about him from friends that know him, i had to come in... and i have to say it did not disappoint! I started off with the Breeder's Cup which was a nice mix of heirloom tomato juice and vodka with whole mini heirloom tomatoes as a garnish, then i had a Bloody Mary (and i have to say I am a tough critic when it comes to these) and it was awesome! nice and spicy and fresh. Finally I had the Strawberry Basil Balsamic drink in which he shakes his own cream for the top, oh my god, probably one of the best cocktails I have ever had. SO refreshing. I am a total fan of here, but the decor is weird. Dark wood and gothic atmosphere mixed with tacky animal print mirrors and bar stools...ew. read more

Tiny little bar - probably about 25 by 20 feet large. Very warm, so we left pretty soon after arriving. Definitely not happenin' on a Saturday night around 10:30-ish. Mix of an older crowd and young girls that looked like tourists (taking pictures of each other). I love cocktails, so I absolutely loved this place. Matthew, the bartender, is quite adept at making the perfect cocktail to suit your tastes, and mixes from a wide array of flora that stands proudly on his bar. I had a cocktail with gin, lemon and arugula (fantastic), an egg nog made with candy cap mushrooms, a whiskey cocktail with red pepper, and other things which I've forgotten. Other concoctions made for friends included a persimmon vodka that I absolutely loved. The drinks are pricey ($15 a piece) but are all unique and fantastic works of art, so it is worth it for a special occasion. read more

Not too crowded on a late Sunday evening and matt the mixologist (as so i reffered to him) was not only making the best cocktails I've ever had in my life, he had the convo and patrons going like no other. This guy knows his stuff. At $15-16 a drink the prices are intense. Don't get me wrong, youre drinking some pretty original and exotic stuff, its just that with those prices its difficult for me to indulge as much as I would've like to. Finally tried this place after hearing about it from a friend a while back. Love the ambiance and the tucked away feeling you get as soon as you enter this dark small space. Very cozy-perfect spot for a date or for a small group of friends. You're immediately engulfed by the smell of fresh produce. As if you just walked into a farmer's market. The ingredients are fresh and it shows (you can see the fresh produce all laid out) and you can taste it. The cocktails are fresh, unique, and made to order based on your likes and dislikes. The glass contains a HUGE perfectly square ice cube, which on first glance is impressive, but after the first sip, is disappointing. The ice takes up most of the glass. Overall, I loved this place. However, I'm knocking down two stars because for the amount I paid for the drink ($16), I should get more than a shot's worth of liquid. I wish they would consider serving the drinks in larger glasses. The ice cube consumes most of the volume in the glass, so two sips later, the drink is gone. I think we would have liked to stay a while and continue drinking. But at $16 a pop, we moved on. read more

Came here for a drink before dinner. Despite the fact that the website lists their opening time as 5:30 pm, the bar was not open when we arrived at 7. The staff said it would open "soon," so we waited in the lobby for a little bit before it opened. We were first in and able to get our drinks in quickly. Some of us just said what are favorite liqueurs and flavors are, others ordered drinks like a strawberry daiquiri. I liked just telling what liqueur and flavors I liked. You never know what they are going to serve you; it's fun. The bar is small, dark, and sparsely decorated, but it had a nice vibe. A few others entered the bar, but it was pretty empty. Our bartender brought over the drinks quickly and explained them all. He was very friendly and attentive. I had a vodka-based strawberry drink with aged balsamic vinegar, St. Germain foam. It was delicious, tangy, and surprisingly strong. You couldn't really sense that bitter taste of alcohol, but by the end of the drink, I was quite buzzed. A bummer that there was a huge ice cube in the drink. You sure don't get much. Others in my group had an arugula gin drink, some kind of sweet watermelon drink, and a martini-like strawberry drink with cucumber, mint, and lemon vodka. Two of my friends thought their drinks were okay, but admittedly they're not the biggest alcohol fans. My more alcohol-knowledgeable friend loved her martini drink. Overall, I want to go back and have more time to order more drinks. I think the price is worth it for the drink personalization and fresh ingredients. Truely amazing drinks! Alex is a cocktail chef. Never before have I had such wonderful creative cocktails. The ambience in this bar is dark and cozy, and the drinks are an experience like none other. All you need is to pick your alcohol of choice and let the wizard make you some magic. The drink-making process is entertaining and worth the wait and cost. We had the strawberry and the pineapple drinks they were good. We actually didn't order from the library but in the lounge area outside of the Roosevelt. The library was very beautiful and small but the outside is grand and it's got a very vintage look about it. If you're looking for modern it's not the place, it's more old hollywood charm. The bartender was pleasant and personable at the front bar, he chatted with us about NYE and some other topics for a bit while making our drinks. This is a cool spot. Reminds me of being in NYC ...there is a lot of space to fill so it seems empty one minute and it's like when midnight hits it just gets packed! I like the fact that it's indoor/outdoor and that they have a pool table! It's a very pretty lounge... love the lay out and look of it! Wish the dj played a little more up to date music. The drinks here are incredible. When I walked in the bartender introduced himself and instead of asking me what I was having he asked me what I normally like to drink. I told him I like Hendricks and Tonic. He said "Ok, how about I make you a gimlet with arugula, and a few other ingredients I can't remember." It was excellent. As I sat at the bar he had me taste test a new drink he was making up that was centered around seaweed. My next drink he asked me if I liked horseradish (I do). He made me a drink based around beet juice and horseradish, it was also excellent. He told me he goes to the farmers market and gets all his ingredients fresh each day. I finished off with a tequila coffee drink and went back up to my room to get some room service. (I don't like eating alone in restaurants) It was overall a good experience. This is one of many bars at the Roosevelt Hotel. If you have guests from out of town and you want to show them a good idea of what LA is about this is the place. You will see all the crowd from wanna be posers to wanna be porn stars to the run of the mill tourist gwaking at the crowd. The drinks are expensive but it is cool you can minger around the entire hotel with drinks in hand and chill in the massive and cool lobby part. This place was very cool and made excellent drinks. If you don't know what you like in a cocktail, don't come here. If you're willing to experiment this is a great place. You tell the mixologist the types of flavors and spirits you like and then they create a cocktail. I had several great cocktails here and would definitely recommend. read more

I recently stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt. We went to the Library Bar a couple of the evenings during the week. The bartender/mixologist (Mon-Thurs) is very knowledgeable and creative. He makes many drinks with fresh ingredients including a cilantro lime margarita. I hope to go back during the summer to try his bloody mary made with fresh tomatoes!! Love the atmosphere...big couches and it really does feel like you are in a Library of a fantastic mansion. The Vampire, Strawberry Tiramisu, Whiskey Sour, Italian Greyhound, Yellow Bell, a Sake/Pear/Dill concoction. If you want to know what it all means you have to go for yourself but bring a group of friends because you'll want to try everything. The drinks are awesome here. All the delicious concoctions are made from farm fresh produce omakase style. The bartenders will let you try the drinks they make for other patrons while they chat you up and find out just what you like. Then like magic, they create a heavenly drink for you. Love this place!!! It's tiny, dark, moody, sexy with leather couches and chairs everywhere. And bartender Greg is super cute. What's not to love? I LOVE THE LIBRARY BAR! The bartenders were friendly, efficient, cute, and masters of their craft. I gave them a brief description of the drinks I like and the liquor I hate and they made me the most delicious bourbon cocktail I believe I have ever had. I taste the drinks my friends had and they were amazing too. They catered to all three of our tastes and made the perfect drinks for each of us and we all loved each others drinks. The bar itself is definitely my style. It's dark wood, low lighting, large, leather sofas and chairs. This is definitely a place to check out. read more

My friends and I went here Saturday night it was by far very cool. The actual Library is pretty tiny but you can bring your drinks out to the lobby area and sit and people watch. The drinks we amazing there isn't a drink list or anything but I just told my bartender what kind of drink I wanted and he made and it was AMAZING. We will be going back.
