My golf group of 12 went this past Saturday. I have been going to Myrtle Beach for over 20 years. This might be the worst experience I ever had. I know that businesses have taken a hit with the weather and we feel bad. When we ate there, we were the only ones there. Our waiter Josh, not Joshua, was the worst, pompous guy ever to serve us. I could go on about each dish but why waste your time. However, they have a shrimp scampi dish with a tomato pesto that Josh said wasn't good. (cheaper). So I tried the lamb chops, could't find enough meat to justify the price. Another ordered the scampi and it wasn't good. However, another guy ordered his Halibut with guess what, scampi sauce. It would have been nice if Josh mentioned that was an alternative. Josh seemed to recommend only the expensive dishes to bump up the check. And don't ask for an extra roll because, they are "made to order" and even when requested, we never got them. read more

Excellent food, elegant service--that is The Library. We held our son's rehearsal dinner here and it was the start of a memorable weekend to the wedding. Guests had choices of salmon, chicken or filet. Chef Shad didn't disappoint; Chris was attentive to every detail. The Library Mushroom appetizer is a must. All the right things are at this restaurant to be a five star dining experience, but the food. We have been going to this restaurant since 1986. Every meal has been wonderful except last night. My husband ordered the steak tartar dinner prepared table side. Way too much vinegar spoiled the taste. I always order the sweetbreads which are a delicacy. Not last night. They were flambayed in a bitter brandy and it totally spoiled the taste. The vegetables which cost $8.00 consisted of unseasoned green beans, carrots and one boiled red potato. The wine was ho hum and was $10.75/ glass. Caesar salad was good but not worth $8.75/person. Total cost was $138.00 plus gratuity. We don,t mind paying for a good meal, but this was a huge disappointment. I would never go again and would tell you the same. P.S. they need to turn the lights down, too! read more

My new wife and I were ending the first part of our honeymoon in Myrtle Beach and we were looking for something upscale...not an easy task in Myrtle Beach! I came across The Library, read the menu and hoped it was as good as it sounded. It was!!! We started with the blackened beef tips and tiger shrimp. Amazing! My wife doesn't love red meat, and she could not stop eating the filet. For entrees, my wife had crusted halibut prepared in a homemade hollandaise sauce. Her fish was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I had the black grouper prepared with a bay shrimp and burgundy wine sauce. The grouper was fantastic, however, I felt the sauce was a bit heavy handed because I lost a bit of the flavor of the grouper. That being said, I ate every bite! The entire experience was 5-star. Shad, the owner, is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about fine wine and food. Shane, our waiter, was great as well. Corkage is $15, but they have a fabulous wine list and the prices are very reasonable. The food and atmosphere were so good we went back the next night!!! If you are looking for a fine dining experience in Myrtle Beach, go nowhere until you try The Library. Night 2 The first night went so well the owner suggested we eat in their private dining area located above the wine cellar. It is completely private and very romantic! The night before, Shad had recommended a bottle of Two Hands '05 Ares for us to drink. I agreed, and he started decanting it an hour before we were to arrive. Shad knows his wine, because this was one of the best bottles I've ever had. For the appetizer, we shared an order of mushrooms topped with gruyer cheese. Again, amazing. For the entree, we shared a 14oz. Kansas City steak topped with caramelized onions, and we added a lobster tail. The steak was cooked to perfection and the onions melted in your mouth. The lobster tail was delicious, and they fill the empty tail full of bay shrimp and bernaise sauce. Yum!!!! We finished the diner with a table-side flamed bananas foster. Again, top notch. We had two of the most amazing meals two nights in a row at The Library. This restaurant is not to be missed. 5 stars across the board. I'm counting down the days until our next trip to Myrtle Beach. Plain and simple....the food is bad. Over sauced, not flavorful, and over priced. Along with the bad food is the creepy atmosphere. I stumbled upon this amazing place after trying to find a nice place to take my Aunt while in town from Charleston, when she was visiting me while working that week at GS Med center. We both had our Sox blown off if you know what I mean, from the welcome, to the service, to the attentiveness and of course to the food....we both split the lobster cocktail, which was just what the doctor ordered ( literally and figuratively)then the grouper special which rolled out piping hot! Like a perfect chick fil e on another level of course. The chef really timed his preparation til we were ready for it. Very impressive. And delicious. Black grouper with fresh blue crab over it then a cognac sauce over it all. Decadent. Couldn't even make a dent in the potatoes and gran marniere carrots... had Kline wine by the glass which really went well w the meal. Expensive but worth every penny...my server was Bobby Hill, and he made the evening extra special. read more

Many locals said that the Library was one of the best restaurants in Myrtle Beach. We came here for Thanksgiving dinner with a 5:00 reservation. The restaurant is very small but cozy. There are various bookcases filled around the room, and a nice fireplace which we were seated next to. Most of the men were wearing sport-coats and dress slack. I was wearing the same, so didn't feel out of place. I don't know if that is the typical dress, or if it was because of the holiday. The wait staff were all dressed in tuxedos, and trained very well. Never did our server reach in front of us, or let the water/wine levels get low in our glasses. We started with a small appetizer of mushroom caps cooked in a red and white wine sauce. There was also cheese on top. They were to die for. The perfect start to a huge meal. We both had the turkey dinner, which had turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, carrots cooked in a grand Marnier sauce, green beans, and stuffing. The stuffing was the highlight of the dinner. There were huge chunks of andouille sausage mixed in and the texture was so light and creamy. Not dry and crunchy like some I've had in the past. The gravy was a little bland, but nothing some salt and pepper couldn't help. We were too full for dessert, so ordered a slice of pumpkin cheesecake to go. That was excellent as well. This will be the first and last time ever to this so-called prestigious establishment.seeing as though we were one of two couples there on Valentine's Day, one would expect that the food would be prepared perfectly. I have had better fish at outback and I feel apologetic to outback for making that comparison. And My dog eats better duck products from her purina. Next time Valentine's Day comes around I may hit up Petsmart and save myself some cash.The one positive aspect was that I was looking at foursquare and noticed a 10% off instant coupon which I presented to the waiter who showed it to the manager in our presence, both of them looked as dumbfounded as we did when we first took a bite of the catchers mitt they called a filet.I honestly wanted this to be a great dining experience however this certainly disappointed. A recent dinner on a Saturday night: not up to their usual high standards. My wife's Lobster and my rack of lamb were both over-cooked. When we complained we were told that the chef was at his graduation. These things happen but to not have a suitable substitute when/if that happens has to effect the standard that we are used to at this restaurant. Quaint little restaurant. Don't let the exterior fool you. The food was delicious. Blackened beef tenderloins were the perfect appetizer, and the Caesar salad prepared table side was so good--the dressing was perfect. My husband had a chicken dish and I had the fish special. Both very good, but the fish slightly better. Came with three types of vegetables, and we both really enjoyed the carrots. We finished with bananas foster for dessert, also prepared table side, which was the perfect end to our meal. The waiters were so friendly and attentive, and it was a lovely, relaxing evening. Atmosphere could have been improved to give off more of a classy feel. She crab soup was excellent and decently priced. Everything else was highly overpriced, and not really worth it. We were given one of two options for water to start off - both of which weren't free, no offer of tap water before we ordered our actual drinks - $5 for a glass of water. The $50 "feature" steak was excellent, but came with no sides? They brought veggies to the table - green beans, carrots, and potatoes and asked which we would like, but weren't told it would be close to $4 per person just to have a side for our meal. The best part of the meal was the blueberry ice cream, even though it was overpriced as well. I would go back if they would make the interior improvements and disclose pricing better so as you know what to expect before you get the bill. read more

maybe our expectations were high but we were a bit disappointed. the ambience was great, very quiet with light music in the background, low lighting. we tried the tableside prepared ceasar salad, it was very good, very strong dressing but very good. we ordered the oyster rockefeller but our waiter, who was very helpful, warned me that the spinach they use has a very strong licorice flavor, which i hate, so we ordered the escargot. they were prepared very simply and tasted good. i also ordered the boula boula, which is a split pea and bay shrimp soup. maybe they used a different split pea than what i use but the soup was very sweet, too sweet, i couldn't finish. for entree, my wife ordered the twin lobster tails, they were good, not great. again, maybe we were just expecting more. i knew it was going to be an expensive dinner, which i have no problem with if we feel like the food is special, but we paid $110 for 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 soup, 1 entree. the staff was great, everyone was very helpful. overall we had a good experience, we just expected the food to be memorable but not this time. on a special occasion, i think we would give this place another chance. read more

thursday night we had we had dinner here: what a FIND! it was one of the best dinners i have had in a long time and that includes san francisco, washington dc and norfolk va. i started off with the potato/cucumber soup which was a restaurant speciality. my entree was roast duck, fixed just right with pink meal and crispy outside. the side veggieble included sugared carrots and made carrots a whole new vegetable for me. the dessert was cherries jubilee prepared slowly at the table and prepared just right. i also had excellent iced coffee. our server (he also had prepared the potato/cucumber soup) was christopher fry who was gracious, knowledgable and made the dining experience particularly enjoyable. we had a vey leisurely, pleasant evening in a quiet, civilized setting. a must dining experience for anyone who likes a 5 star meal in style. read more

I will never go here again. My husband and I went here for my birthday recently. We chose it because the reviews looked good. I ordered a plane filet medium rare it was over cooked, but the waiter was so condescending I didn't say anything. The cut of meat also was not that good you are better off going to Ruth Chris...On the menu it says you get vegetables. The way the waiter made it seem these vegetables were the asparagus and mushrooms he asked if we wanted. When we got our bill we realized we were charged for the mushrooms and asparagus we didn't really want, but thought was included. I was so disappointed in our visit between the waiter huffing at me three times and the $20 for vegetables neither of us ate. As if this isn't enough they only give you one dinner roll at a time haha...I don't usually do negative reviews but you are better off spending your special occasion somewhere else! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner, and we were both blown away! I knew it would be good, but I under-estimated that! I had the filet, which came with potatoes and vegetables. I also ordered a side of asparagus for us to share, and a bottle of wine. The atmosphere was right up our alley. I love to read, and I love quiet, private environments. The restaurant itself was phenomenal. Our waiter (wish I could remember his name) was on point, every step of the way. We never wanted for anything, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wines. This was hands-down one of THE best steaks I have ever ate. And we eat a lot of steak! Even the potatoes and vegetables were incredible. I didn't know you could make vegetables taste like that, but I couldn't get enough! It was pricey, but I knew this going in. We always choose really nice restaurants to take each other to for special occasions, so I already knew the price range that we were getting into. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant (definitely not a tourist-y spot) and I loved that! If you have a special occasion, this is definitely one of my most recommended locations to celebrate it! read more
