My family ordered three pasta dishes from Libro this evening-- mine was the "normal" sized (as opposed to the small size) spaghetti carbonara. When I opened the box, it was a tiny portion (for $13)-- even smaller than the small size of the other pastas. We called to ask about it to bring it back and exchange it for the correct size, and were told that "that's just how the carbonara is." The last time I ordered from here, my roasted potatoes had actually not been cooked-- literally, they were still nearly raw and I couldn't eat them. I didn't complain about that because I figured it was a one-off mistake, but unfortunately it seems like it wasn't. read more

Wow! Im really impressed with Libro. My husband and I each had the lasagna. I'm not usually a fan of tomato based dishes but the ground brisket gave this dish rich flavor. For dessert we split a tiramisu which was also very good. I do wish the meal came with either bread or a small salad but that's a personal preference. The ambience is pretty similar to early restaurants at this location but instead of carpet there's a stained concrete floor which is a nice change. Overall a nice place for a casual date night or dinner with friends if you're looking for a quality meal without a lot of fuss. read more

Libro had been on my list forever and I finally decided it was time to stop by for dinner! I had heard so many good things about Libro and was waiting for the perfect time to try it. Unfortunately during our first time here for dinner, they were out of a lot of the menu items which was disappointing. We ordered the French onion soup which was good. I decided on the Mare for my entree but I did not find it that amazing. It was fulfilling and it felt healthy and had a good taste but nothing that blew me away. I did like the texture of the pasta and that the sauce was flavorful and consistency. The overall location and vibe of the place is GREAT! It's so pretty and romantic that you forget you're in a bookstore. Service is also very good and the servers are very attentive and kind. We love calamari and their's ranked among the three best we have had in Memphis and in the top ten of the calamari we have had across the United States. Additionally, we enjoyed Shrimp Gumbo (sort of a lighter-twist than a traditional Cajun/Creole Gumbo), a Turkey Sandwich, a value-priced bottle of Rodney Strong Chardonnay ($27), and a Creme Brulee. This is a hidden gem inside East Memphis bookstore Novel! We got dinner and it was amazing. We tried the crab cakes, apple walnut salad, and tomato soup as starters. All three were delicious, I highly recommend all! Then for entrees we tried the Scottish salmon salad, the March dinner special (surf & turf), and shrimp maque choux. The best dinner I've had in 2020 so far!! Libro is a hidden gem inside of a beautiful book store. The book store itself is great, plenty of little areas to sit and check out the books, tons of books, a room for events, and then there's Libro. There's a bar where they serve not only drinks, but their menu is also available at the bar. We had visited the book store earlier in the weekend and saw that the January dinner specials at Libro looked amazing, so we had to come back and try them before I left Memphis. They serve food as long as they are open, but the dinner specials start at 5pm. We were seated right away at the table of our choice. Our server, Taylor was awesome and answered our questions and told us about the menu. We ordered the Lamb Shank with a Demi glaze, served over Gouda Grits and spinach, along with the seafood risotto, with scallops, shrimp and crab. The specials came with a complimentary glass of the house wine. When our food came out, we were both in awe of how delicious it looked, and our first bites...words couldn't express. The dinner was so amazing that we had to have dessert. We ordered a a slice of the Poppy Seed Olive Oil Lemon Cake to share since we were both stuffed from dinner, but couldn't resist, it was amazing as well. I went to Libro as a b-day celebration. Calamari appetizer- meh- nice crust but chewy. Asked the server about French Onion Soup, got a good go ahead from him. The 'French' Onion soup was not French! Big slices of onions that had been sauteed, not caramelized. No Gruyere cheese! The bagel slices were standing up on the side of the bowl. And, there was a heavy black pepper taste in the broth. We stopped in for a quick early lunch and we enjoyed everything that we had. I ordered the turkey panini with the basil pesto and the roasted potatoes on the side, and it was very good! My fiancee ordered the chicken gumbo and she finished the whole thing, so I'd say that she liked it haha. The food preparation and the quality of ingredients was fantastic. Service was good, and had it been later in the day I would have ordered a beer to accompany my meal, as it appears that they had a large selection. We had originally intended to have brunch, but the breakfast menu was pretty small, so take that into consideration if you are planning on dining here in the morning on days besides Sunday (they apparently have a larger brunch menu on Saturdays). Servers do get bogged down during the lunch rush, but cocktails and wine make the meal more pleasant. This would've been a perfect dinner after an event at novel, if we had ever been attended to. We were seated quickly, but waited 20 minutes without anyone coming to our table. The table to our left was checked on by their waiter 3 times, and the table to our right was checked on twice by their waiter. We were never even given water, because again, not a single person checked on us. I understand troubles with being understaffed, as I'm sure the bartender was slammed with drinks, but this was unacceptable. read more

The experience was great from the start. Enjoyed getting to look around the new Novel bookstore before being greeting by the hostess. Lively atmosphere with simple and delicious menu options. I had the potato gnocchi for my lunch entree and shared the tiramisu for dessert. The dishes were packed full of flavor and fresh ingredients. Portion sizes are smaller than I had hoped for the price, but with the rich ingredients I left feeling full and not stuffed. While everything was super delicious, we were disappointed in the portion size of the food. The calamari only had two big pieces and the rest seemed like scraps. The entire bowl was full of lettuce and so it looked skimpy. I ordered a half portion of pasta and my husband ordered the full; however, the portion size of our pastas were the same. I loved Bronte/Bistro @ Laurelwood: Great menu selection, consistently good, always tasted fresh, and I ate there often. My friend and I went twice this past week during my yearly trip to Memphis. Overall, we tried the vegetable pasta, curried squash bisque, fried green tomatoes and vegetable salad. For drinks, we tried the Hemingway Daiquiri, East of Eden, and the Great Expectations. Everything was delicious! I definitely recommend everything, but especially loved the bisque, pasta and the East of Eden cocktail. This easily became our new favorite dinner spot. The atmosphere was wonderful. Glad Libro has opened at the bookstore. I went two weeks ago and I ordered chicken salad only on a plate that was very good and a good size portion. I believe it was $14.00, perhaps a little high end. No one I lunched with had any complaints. The ambiance is very simple for a rather lavish menu. I think that for a high end lunch more comfortable seating with maybe some booths would be nice. In other words the menu and food doesn't match the set up. The service was ample and average. I couldn't decide between three and four stars for the reasons I gave, so I went with the four because I enjoyed the lunch. read more
