There is no way to contact them to put in an order, ask about an order, etc. They will not answer the phone, there is no voice mail, you cannot message their FB page, no email, no contact via website I can find. Went to Life's a Bagel today. It's been a loooooong time since I have had fresh warm bagels that didn't require toasting. Huge bagels, but crunchy and chewy and tasty (very NY!) Excellent cream cheese, although I prefer real chives to scallions. My entirely family is from NY, and although I grew up in New England, our bagels were always from NY. Having just devoured an onion bagel, I now fully recall what I have been missing since my childhood. The national bagel chains just have a different product altogether. And service was fine--efficient and not a lot of kibbutzing but hey, there was a long line. Yikes. Avoid at all costs. I went here with my boyfriend on a Saturday morning. There was a line out of the door, but it moved fairly quickly. There were two female employees working, and when it was our turn, my boyfriend ordered a sesame bagel with sliced nova lox, with no lettuce. I didn't order anything as I already ate. Also, I want to note that the woman never asked if I wanted anything. Five minutes after the woman took the original order, she asked us to repeat the cream cheese and toppings again. Weird that she'd forget so quickly.. but ok. This next part is when things go horribly wrong. The counter was above my eye level, but the toaster was propped slightly higher, and I saw both employees grab the toasted bagels WITH THEIR BARE HANDS. Not ok. Mind you, both were wearing one food service glove on their left hand. But nope, they grabbed the bagels with their right hand. It was particularly gross because one girl had these long purple fake nails. I also saw her grab one of those plastic condiment containers (presumably for cream cheese?) and her bare fingers and nails went into the container. Like full on touching it. And who knows what bacteria is under those nails? I'm pretty sure what they were doing constituted as a violation of health / food service safety standards. My boyfriend wasn't too bothered, but the real kicker is when the girl rang us up, she charged us for two nova lox bagels. We were both puzzled, and told her we had only ordered one. The girl brazenly responds, "I thought you ordered 2." We insisted that we ordered one, and the girl retorts, "Why didn't you say something when you saw me making your order?" I was pretty ticked off at this point, because first of all, there was no way we could've 1) seen over the bar, 2) seen over the counter refrigerator cover and 3) known that she was making two bagels for us. Anyways, the woman refused to admit her mistake and we were forced to pay for two Nova Lox bagels.. and I don't eat Nova Lox so the second sandwich was basically a waste. That being said. My NY bagel-snob boyfriend enjoyed the bagel, and said it was tasty. But that does not redeem Life's a Bagel in my eyes. HARD PASS since they clearly don't hire competent employees who know how to handle food properly or have any ounce of customer service skills. I'd rather wait in line for 30 minutes at Spot! over in Norwood instead for a good bagel and friendly interaction. Living in PA my family and friends are not allowed to visit without stopping for bagel for me first! I do have to admit I truly love Finagel's bagels as much as the bagels here at Life's A Bagel. I can say both have an amazing outer crust while the insides are soft light pillowy and have the perfect chewiness texture! Their bagels are fresh and close to NY bagels I have found in Massachusetts. The people are friendly (once you get to know them). But I prefer their egg bagels. I am always looking for a fine bagel place in Boston... I certainly use NYC and the burbs as a benchmark and have had bagels and bialys across the USA. Now, let's start by saying this is a REAL bagel store and this is their craft. Let's also say the size of the bagels was almost too large--- and as a value it is generous. It is also wonderful how fresh they were as one can tell with sponginess. The selection was also satisfactory with all sorts of choices and appreciate as crafts-people they stay away from gimmicks. The bagels are as good as anything in Massachusetts. Really good. The crust was fine and the feel of the bagel was chewy--the dichotomy between the crust and the bagel was fine. I will say they were almost too large for some purposes as a bagel and the ratio of crust-inside gets lost when that oversized. On the other hand this type of bagel is perfect for a sandwich. Price is very fair. You know it is good when the egg and water bagels are first rate. One bagel is a meal. Nothing to mask with funny flavors.. Keep using that starter. Feels a bit like stepping back in time. The signage, decor and displays look like they've never been updated; very clean but certainly not modern. They offered about a dozen varieties of fresh bagels and several hand packed cream cheese choices and lox too! Sign in the window claims to be 100% kosher (I wouldn't know for sure.) I had a salt bagel with egg and cheese. The egg was freshly cooked and the bagel was large, soft inside, crispy outside and really satisfying, all for $3.50, CASH only! I'm not sure how many different owners have run the place (I know the person who started it sold it years ago), but the service on a recent visit was horrendous.
