This is a literal neighborhood restaurant for us. It takes us 6 minutes to walk here. We come every once in a while, mainly because the food is decently good but expensive (over priced?). The historic building provides an amazing atmosphere. It's also great to have the live entertainment in the main dining area. Those with mobility challenges will struggle to get in. We've had many menu items at this point. The clam chowder is tasting better lately with lots of clams. The tuna nachos are good, but they seem overpriced for what you get. We liked the breading on the calamari, but not all the stuff it comes with. The fish and chips is good; the spicy isn't really spicy, and the beer batter (not butter as the menu says) is tasty. The fries are where it's at! Love the monk fish, love the salmon dish. My husband says the burger is great, as is the spicy chicken sandwich. Vegetarians will struggle here because there are no proteins for the vegetarian dishes. Incorporating grilled tofu or beans would be helpful. The burrata salad probably has the most protein, and it's delicious. We keep coming because it's close to our house, and we want to support. A menu refresh is probably in order. read more

Been three times and I soooooo want to love the place because the decor is great and the staff are so nice! However they don't have enough of them and I have waited an average of 20 minutes to have a drink order taken and over 45 for them to come back and ask about dinner. Dinner was eh. Drinks ok. Nothing notable for the price. Bonus we thought was the offering of live music --- and the quality of the bands has been amazing. But - when they have bands, it's too loud and you have to scream to talk to the person next to you. They do it every Friday so kiss that relaxing evening goodbye as an option. They can surely do better. Just don't know why they aren't. read more

First, the Lighthouse Inn is beautiful! It's a lovingly restored historic inn and the interior is spacious and stunning; sitting in the restaurant feels glamorous and the tavern feels cozy, classy. Out food was excellent. 3 of us had the 1902 burger which was top notch, a rich flavorful patty topped with carmelized onions. spot on. One in our party had the veggie burger which was delicious and house made. Another in our party got the dover sole special and raved about it while his wife got the eggplant parmigiana which she said was delicious and served over what tasted and looked like homemade spaghetti in a rich and delicious sauce. The desserts were also excellent! the brownie sundaes were huge and rich, Lemoncello cake was a revelation, and the crème brûlée had excellent flavor and texture plus a crisp top that broke like we were on some chef tv show. They also had an excellent list of craft beers. We ate in the restaurant but the tavern was filled with a crowd enjoying live music. Huge thank you to the staff who were welcoming and friendly and the proprietors who have created such a destination restaurant. Excelleny dinner, drinks, and dessert is a truly special setting. Had my son's wedding/dinner for about 40 people. Robert was awesome. Food and staff outstanding. Highly recommend the venue.

My wife and I went here for our 16th wedding anniversary. For starters, they misplaced our reservation and sat us in the noisy bar area, then 45 minutes later a frazzled waiter came over to take our drink order, only to tell us they couldn't make the Margarita Flight because the bar was busy. ( Don't have it on special if you can't make it). We ordered Lighthouse Calamari, short ribs and seasonal risotto. The calamari was okay, rubbery, and greasy but had a pretty good aioli. My wife's short ribs were good but the polenta was overly cheesy. I had the seasonal risotto which included shrimp and scallops. The seafood was good but the risotto inedible undercooked and season-less with bits of tough asparagus in it. All in all I would not recommend this place anymore. Loud, ineffective service and management your money is better spent at other restaurants around town. read more

Walking in, you're greeted by a stunning mahogany wood spiral staircase which is amazing for the general ambiance of the place! We sat in the huge bar area which is also adorned with lots of wood, fireplaces, and when we went there was a terrific singer in that area too. The service was extremely helpful and friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was also VERY good. We had the strip steak with mushroom sauce and the scallops- and OMG that calimari with the mascarpone and balsamic sauce was to die for! The mixed drinks were tasty and definitely strong enough. On a quiet Sunday evening we walked to our local Lighthouse Inn . Four of us enjoyed a relaxing dinner with a delightful server ....Gabrielle. We enjoyed sharing the cauliflower tempura and pulled pork appetizers ~ Both were very good. I had the tuna appetizer for dinner and it was excellent. My clam/mussels were not as favorable . Other guests had the salmon , tortellini and chicken . Nice comments on those dishes. For dessert the brownie sundae was yummy , the strawberry shortcake less so . We will definitely go back and support this local spot . read more

Was excited to finally try this place. Went with a group of 8. The ambiance was nice, there was a fellow playing covers on a guitar near our table, but he kept the volume at a level that still allowed for conversation. But, that is the only good I can say about this place. The food was totally bland. The happy hour specials had a pork burnt ends with habanero bacon jam which sound wonderful, but there was zero flavor (I don't think they actually used habanero in the jam!) The pork was chewy not tender. I had the hanger steak and it was also bland and flavorless. The spinach that came with it had no seasoning, not even salt and pepper. I think the best part of the meal was the dessert, which was just a brownie with ice cream. So sad and the prices were too high for such mediocre food. read more

We held a post funeral buffet luncheon here for about 90 and Robert and his staff did a spectacular job. The food was plentiful and delicious, with many healthy choices. We didn't know exactly how many people were going to attend but there was never a worry about there not being enough food. I have been here a couple of times. Both times, I sat and waited for over half an hour for someone to come over to me. No Im not exaggerating, I was a server for 4 years myself. I would not have gotten service the most recent time if I didn't flag someone down. Food can be really good but this place is so understaffed and unorganized sadly. Servers also only take home almost NONE of their tips. The "tip out" system is hardly okay. I was told by a server she often leaves with little to no money - reminder that the server minimum wage in CT is $6.38 an hour. We have come here a few times. Finally had a chance to try their Happy Hour menu. My husband ordered the Pork Burnt Ends in Habanero Bacon Jam, and I had the Empanadas with Pulled Chicken along with Queso Fresco and Hot Salsa, and enjoyed my favorite to drink, Illyrian Cuvee. Then we shared the Cauliflower Tempura with Truffle Cream. Since coming here, we never had anything that wasn't phenomenal in food, drink, or service. The restaurant is cozy, and atmosphere as you walk in from the parking lot takes you back in time. Lighthouse Inn is one of our favorites, I hope you enjoy it as well. read more

When you enter the Inn there is absolutely no one to greet you. You have to seek information to learn that they are not using the beautiful tavern. We're using the tired old main dining room as the "Tavern ". I agree to that and try to make the most of it. I order the burger, Medium Well. It comes and looks delicious. It is Rare. Burger goes back to the kitchen and they offer a chicken wrap. OK. The wrap is poorly assembled and falls apart. The manager doesn't understand because "he's really good on the grill". I pay (no discount) and leave. As I leave there are new customers at the door looking for guidance. read more

I have gone to the Lighthouse Inn several times and never have been disappointed. I love the atmosphere of the Inn. It is historic! I have ordered various dishes, but love the gluten free ravioli and their burgers. The food has always been fantastic!wine menu is from around the world. I also went for their Thanksgiving Brunch and it was fantastic! My daughter and I enjoyed sipping on mamosa's and had a delicious piece of ham, roast beef and turkey from the carving station along with all the trimmings. Additionally they had a smorgasbord of breakfast items, cheese and meats and pastries along with veggies. I would highly recommend this Inn for a lunch or dinner. Their chefs are a culinary delight along with the staff! The managers are always on the floor impacting their knowledge of the history of the the Inn. And for a little trivia- the "sample" version of the staircase was made by the same individual who designed and built the dual staircase on the Titanic! It's a hidden gem! read more

We had a wonderful lunch here today. The burger was perfect and came with home cut fries that were nicely seasoned fresh and delicious. My son is a picky eater and requested an off-menu item-- penne ala vodka--, which they gladly made for him and was delicious as well. Nice selection of beers, which were ice cold. We sat and ate at the bar in the tavern, a dark wood very nice room. They had other rooms for dining that faced out to the rear. The staff (especially Liz) were so nice, down to earth, and kind. This place was recently restored and was just brought back to life, and have done a great job getting the kinks out and up to speed. They care about their customers. There are also 27 hotel rooms opening upstairs later this year. Check out the Lighthouse Inn, it was very nice and over delivered on our expectations today. read more

Lighthouse Inn, New London, CT This old favorite has been through hills and valleys of success. But mind you, it is back and something to prioritize on your visit list. The place looks great, and the food is excellent. The menu is short, but you know what is good about that: they can make sure they get it right. There are a couple of rough edges but nothing they cannot fix. The bar which we chose over the dining room thinking it would be less expensive. After all we were in a historic place (listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996) and did not know the prices. Never fear. The dining room prices are the same (at least on this Thursday at 5 p.m.). We started with cocktails and an order of calamari for the table. The girls loved the Snowball Martinis, named for the coconut infusion. My Apple Cider Old Fashioned was okay, but I wished for a more traditional version. The star of that course was the best-ever calamari, and so bountiful it satisfied all four of us. Helen and my wife had the scallops. Tom had the clams linguine and I the eggplant parmesan. I would not have been able to identify eggplant in my dish, but it did not matter because the sauce and pasta were fantastic, and the portion was huge. We all agreed that each one's choice was excellent. The meals were hot and arrived in an expected timeframe and sumptuous quantity and nicely presented. Staff were most cordial and pleasant. Our waitress may have been new as the parmesan and linguini could have had grated cheese offered. Prices were quite reasonable. As we close out 2022 we are very glad the Lighthouse Inn is back and worth many more visits. read more

Thanksgiving Dinner left a lot to be desired. First we had a long wait after we arrrived for a 3:30 seating. When we were finally allowed to go to the buffet, many of the chafing dishes were near if not completely empty. When they finally were filled, much of the food was dry and bland. The advertised Seafood Stuffed Mushroom Caps were non-existent. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed. In earlier days, a banquet manager stood guard to make sure the food was replentished as needed. Nothing about the food or service at this place evokes the magic of yesteryear. The architecture and ambience of the location does not make up for this poorly managed restaurant. Even the restrooms were out of order, with a long line at the only one that was working. Before this place has to shut down due to lack of business, an experienced restaurant manager should be hired STAT. I would love to see what one of the restauranteurs in Mystic such as Carol could do for this place. The whip needs to be cracked, and fast! read more

Recently reopened, I had lunch with a friend in the pub. Very slow for a Thursday lunch-hour which was disappointing. I'm writing this review with the hopes that people will reinvest in dining at the Lighthouse Inn. We had fish 'n' chips and a delicious brussels sprouts luncheon dish that was adorned with balsamic and bacon. The fish was abundant and tasty, and the fries seemed to be made from scratch. The prices were very reasonable for such an elegant place. Talked to the owner who said that event bookings were increasing. I'm so glad! This historic Lady is coming back to life, and I truly hope that it lives on in its glory! read more

Had a lovely experience here. Fiancé ordered French onion soup which was incredibly flavorful and rich. My appetizer was eggplant with mozzarella and tomatoes, couldn't really taste the eggplant but the dish overall was very good. We ordered a burger and the chicken sandwich for our meal, incredible! Big portions of fries came with both. Staff was so incredibly nice and down to earth. Definitely try it out, and don't stray away from the specials menu! Lots of good choices! read more

In two hours all that was brought to our table was luke warm French onion soup, 2 shrimp cocktail and a beet salad. Our waitress was no where to be found. I had this place all hyped up because I was going here for a special Valentine's Day event. The event was so hokey -- we laughed through the entire thing. The tables were jam packed into this room...so we were practically sitting with this older, inappropriate, unfortunate couple. Either our waiter spilled black bean soup on the collar of his shirt...or he was bleeding from his neck and didn't know about it. (Pretty repulsive when he's serving you your food). There was a very limited selection of mediocre food, and it was over priced. I might go back here on a regular day to check out what it's really like. read more

Had Valentine's Day dinner there last night with my husband. $70 p/p. I scouted out the menu before making our reservation. It looked good. We had a 7:00 p.m. reservation and arrived a few minutes early. There was no host/hostess to greet us. We stood there for about 10 minutes as three other couples joined our wait. Employees acknowledged us as they passed by with foods for other patrons. (At least we weren't invisible!). We were finally seated. The place was full and I observed about three waitresses managing the whole room. In addition to taking food orders, bringing food out, they were also bussing tables! Really? As a result, our waitress, who was a VERY LOVELY PERSON, didn't get to us for about 10 minutes after we sat down. She took our whole orders since it was a predetermined menu. Unfortunately, I could not get the filet mignon because they ran out of it. How could this have happened when reservations had to be made in advance? Furthermore, we did not get the first course (our appetizer) until 8:00! More waiting.... the salad came before our soups, then finally the entrees and then the desserts all with waiting periods between them. We left the Inn at 9:15! I am just so glad that we were not in any rush. During my "wait times," I couldn't help observing all the employees who hustled as best they could given the circumstances. I do not fault them. It would be very wise if management stepped up to address these issues as I have read similar reviews. The Lighthouse Inn is a very beautiful place. Its service flow should align with its upscale ambiance. In my opinion, it does not. Too bad. This is a place that I would love to take my guests. But, I think I would be embarrassed. It is my hope that management reads my review and others like it so that they can make the necessary adjustments to where it should be. read more
