We found this cute ice cream shop while we were out in Rhode Island and decided to give it a shot! We were super excited to see there was Thai tea-flavored ice cream, so we gave it a shot! Unfortunately, it tasted kind of strange - It tasted like it had the earthiness of Thai tea ice cream, but without the creaminess that's characteristic of Thai tea ice cream! It was disappointing and we ended up tossing about a third to half of the ice cream. I have a feeling maybe it was just the Thai tea flavor that was a flop and I have hope that the other flavors here would work out better! I cannot say enough good things about LNU. I cannot eat dairy and finding decent tasting ice cream has been a struggle. LNU has been a dream come true, whether you are vegan, lactose intolerant or just like good ice cream. The soft serve reminds of the Carvel of my youth. The hard serve rotates about a dozen flavors including Almond Joy and Mint Chip. Everything is clearly labeled in case you have other allergies. My husband celebrated his birthday this past week. His favorite cake of all time is ice cream cake. Since we've gone dairy free, I didn't think ice cream cake was an option. I started asking around and a friend of mine suggested Like No Udder. I kept hearing about this place, but still had yet to visit. I called and inquired about a cake and was transferred to the owner who takes care of all of the cakes. She was incredibly sweet and was able to make a custom cake for my husbands birthday! The day we picked up the cake, we stopped in to try some of the ice cream. We loved the entire experience and were excited to try the cake at home! Let me tell you, this cake was fantastic!! It's a cute little place that currently does quite a bit of window service. Their system is very easy to understand, and there is plenty of signage for 6-food distance. My irk with dairy-free ice cream tends to come down to consistency. A lot of the store bought stuff is icy, or makes your mouth dry when you eat it. Not the stuff from Like No Udder. This stuff has an excellent churn, and is super creamy (despite obviously being cream free. We ordered Double Ginger and Chubby Monkey. Our favorite was the Double Ginger - ginger ice cream with ginger chewy candies mixed in. It was SUPER refreshing, and a very generous scoop. The service is great. Typically, it seems standard for you to tell your server about allergies. Before every order, the staff takes great care in making sure you don't have any food sensitivity. Like No Udder is a Vegan ice cream parlor. In the summer, the purple ice cream truck can be seen at food events around Rhode Island (and sometimes out of state!) The truck only sells shakes, cones, and cups of their vanilla and chocolate soft serve. Entering the store front, you see small tables and chairs from an elementary school. There is a television mounted by the window showing cat clips. As a cat lover, I always watch them! The store has soft serve and rotating hard serve flavors. Each hard serve flavor is labeled with the base, and if any allergens are present. You are able to try samples, which I definitely recommend while the flavor is available! Whenever I think of Like No Udder, I think of the vanilla soft serve. Their vanilla soft serve is my absolute favorite soft serve. It's sweet with a light texture, not too thick or too thin. Just thinking about it now, I want to get one this second! Like No Udder sometimes holds pop ups of Vegan bakeries in the store, such as Celebrated and Miss Vegan. And college students get a discount (10% I think?)! It's a quaint shop but the owners are very nice and don't rush you at all! You can sample a few flavors before making up your mind. I tried the matcha and thai tea ice creams, both of which were good - but, in my opinion, not as great as regular ice creams that I have had. Given that all the products are made in house and the prices aren't ridiculous, if you need a dairy substitute, I'd definitely recommend! Just beware that their hours have changed recently and they are closed from mid December - late February. I got the sunflower butter with chocolate chips and the mint chip in a wafer cone. It was very filling and so good - pretty much any combination is good here. You can sample flavors before you order and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations. Another plus - they play cute cat and dog videos while you eat. They usually have a dozen different flavors in their shop on Ives Street in Providence. They also have an ice cream truck with a limited amount of tasty soft serve flavors. They use cashew, coconut, and peanut bases and have plenty of toppings such as chocolate chips, sprinkles, and sauces. I've had several of their mouthwatering flavors: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Orange Creamsicle, Banana Peanut Butter Swirl, Thai Iced Tea, PB and J, and my favorite... Like No Udder was my summer 2020 spot! I always loved their ice cream truck but didn't make it to their brick and mortar very frequently. I went there almost once a week this past summer as it was the perfect way to cool off and treat myself! They are constantly churning out new creative flavors. This is a plus and a minus because sometimes I'd try one and fall in love with it but never see it again!! I love how they have vegan pop ups from small businesses like Basil and Bunny, Miss Vegan and Blush Bakeshop! Such a place for community and fun! In addition to having one of the only (if not the only?) vegan ice cream trucks in the country, their little window operation conveys vegan ice cream with kindness, efficiency, and care. The flavor options are relatively diverse and all excellent - ranging from peanut butter oreo to Cinnamon Toast Crunch to mint chocolate chip. The unsung hero, in my opinion, is the "everything" topping. It's exactly what it sounds like. I visited this spot over the weekend with my toddler, husband and mom. It has street parking and some tables outside as well as inside. The tables inside are very pretty with glitter enamel. Also, there is quirky decor involving cats. The ice cream selection isn't as large as the usual non vegan mom and pop spots, but there is definitely a great variety of choices and they let you sample. They show you the flavor and what it's made of (coconut, cashew, etc) they have usual toppings - I actually had ice cream envy as my husband topped his with peanuts butter and chocolate sauce and it was so good! They are also very environmentally conscious with the containers - they are not styrofoam, they are biodegradable. Overall, great experience, good vegan ice cream with decent prices. read more

I was finally able to get to like no udder after attempting to get there for years. They only had the window open and I got there late so they didn't have any knishes left... but I got a waffle cone of chocolate peanut butter ice cream and boy did it hit the spot! I love that there's a vegan ice cream place in Providence! When I switched from being a vegetarian to a vegan I thought for sure I was going to have to give up ice cream or only have brands that I could get at the supermarket. I can't stress how badly I want to go to Like No Udder. Unfortunately, until a few weeks ago, I hadn't been to Rhode Island in 30 years. I've never had much of a reason to go until I was invited to an activist demonstration at the Waterfire festival in Providence. The hours didn't line up, as we were crunched for time and Like No Udder was closed by the time we were finished. Bummer. Fortunately for me and so many others, Like No Udder travels to different locations for various events and I've been able to try their ice cream several times. Last year at a large summer event called Compassionfest, I ordered a vanilla milkshake from the Like No Udder truck and it was incredible! Best milkshake I've had in years. I'm not just saying that because I hadn't had a milkshake in years, but also because I couldn't remember ever having a better one. I haven't been able to find a vegan milkshake since, so it's still on my mind. This July at the same event, I had a sundae with peanut butter sauce and chocolate cookie crumbles. The sundae was amazing, but I wanted a milkshake! Either they weren't offering milkshakes this year, or they had sold out, I don't remember. Once I had some of that sundae in my mouth, though, I stopped crying about the lost milkshake. I've seen some recent photos from friends who went to Like No Udder. Seeing the place and all their offerings is making me want to come up with a plan for getting back out to Providence for some ice cream. And I really need a milkshake! In the meantime, this review is for the few times I've been able to hit up their truck (I think 3 times), and each time I was quite impressed.
