My family and I went there at 1:30pm on Sunday 7/19/26. The two children who greeted us were absolutely disrespectful. No social skills. No smile or smirk. I happen to just be passing by the sacred cow today and was surprised to see it was open so early. I decided to stop in spur of the moment for some ice cream and was very impressed. They have a walk up window for ordering, very prompt/friendly staff, and incredibly reasonable pricing. Went here on a whim late one night with the fam. Was surprised how busy it was despite the later hour and the rain, not to mention how its a bit off the beaten path. The staff was friendly enough, the prices were fair, and they gave us a ton of ice cream, heaping scoops, even the kitty size was substantial and were generous with toppings, etc. The only draw back and reason for the low rating is that non of the flavors were that great. I tried the chocolate, which was creamy but didn't taste like chocolate, or like much anything at all, it was more like unflavored ice cream with sugar. The strawberry ice cream was about the same, a bit more flavor, very sweet, but more like a Friendly's artificial kind of ice cream, something you'd find in a neapolitan flavor from the grocery store. Yes the vanilla was vanilla, good texture, but likewise, could've used more vanilla to actually taste it. I was lured in by their famous granola, which is quite tasty with a nice chocolate-y crunch and a prominent coconut profile, but a bit too sweet in my opinion. The store has a fantastic selection of local Rhody products, ranging from baked goods to fresh ravioli from Federal Hill establishments. Couldn't resist trying their ice cream while I was there - sampled moo trucks (vanilla with fudge swirl and peanut butter cups) and cookies and cream. This local gem is my favorite dessert spot in East Providence. There is a wide variety of ice cream flavors that they do occasionally change up. Among your options to put them in are several different kind of cones, a waffle bowl, or cup. You can also get them in floats, milkshakes, or sundaes. They also have ice cream sandwiches. I regularly go for the soft serve. Additionally, I drop by weekly to get a refill on the milk. Usual flavors include regular, chocolate, or coffee milk. They're all excellent. During Easter, strawberry (my favorite option) is available as well. There is an initial $2 charge the first time you buy one of these for the glass bottle, but the fee is removed whenever you exchange it for your next bottle. If milk isn't your thing, tea and strawberry lemonade are also available. Every staff member here is extremely friendly. Everyone is always so cheerful and more than happy to go over their many options with you. Great dessert options are so common around Providence, but I'll keep coming back, Sacred Cow! read more

I took my kids to have some ice cream and we decided to check this place out since we had never been here before. You order your ice cream from the window facing the porch, they have signs posted that they do not take ice cream orders inside the market, at the register. This is probably to keep the Monroe Dairy market shoppers separate from people who are there to get ice cream. The sundaes were tasty and a fair value for the size. One of my kids got a shake instead of a sundae, and I was surprised that it cost as much as a sundae but was 1/2 the size, so I'd skip that in the future. There's a few tables in a shaded area where you can sit and enjoy your treats. There's also a Little Free Library there, which we were happy to see! We're LFL stewards so we always have books in the car for this very occasion, so we added about a dozen books to share before we left. They have a small market in the same building where you can buy some local food and decorative items as well as milk in glass bottles and frozen food items that Monroe Dairy stocks and delivers to your home. Don't forget to take your photo with the cow statues while you're there - it's a great photo op! read more

I love this place. I grew up having Munroe Dairy delivered to my home but, after moving away for some years, delivery has quite the wait list. But, thank the heavens, Sacred Cow is just 10 minutes from my home. I can go in, get my Munroe milk (which requires a deposit for the glass container) and exchange them when finished. As long as you keep exchanging your empty bottles, the deposit is just a one time thing. You have options of skim, lowfat, whole, chocolate, coffee and even strawberry (seasonal). You can also grab a bottle of various lemonades, iced tea or cold brew coffee. The variety of items they have is awesome. Plus, you can look through glass windows in the shop to see the people hard at work making cookies, granola and various treats all fresh to be put on the shelves. All of their ice cream is delicious but, I have a soft spot for their black raspberry chocolate chip. When it's available, don't forget to try their eggnog as well, (the drink and ice cream!) You'll never purchase nog from the super market again. Oh, and don't worry. They let you try any flavor ice cream. Everyone there is so nice and friendly. You can't go in there without a warm greeting and even a quick chat. Then head outside to their adorable seating area to enjoy the ice cream you most likely purchased. Go on, head over. Been here a couple of times now; fall & summer. Recently returned for ice cream after eating lunch elsewhere. Toured the inside first which reminds me a lot of the little country stores you see in Vermont. They have a lot of variety here breakfast, lunch & dinner. Place smells so good as you enter of baked goods. Everyone I've dealt with whenever I've been here has been friendly and helpful. After asking for advice on Ice cream favorites, with Vermont on my mind, I settled for soft serve maple with whip cream. Smooth, delicious and a large amount. I make at least one wrong turn every time I drive through East Providence so I usually avoid it, but I got ice cream this week as part of RI Food Fights and can't wait to go back! It's easy to get to off the highway (no wrong turns this time!). The outdoor area is very cute, with about five picnic benches in a landscaped area. Loved the flowers on each picnic table. I ordered a small scoop of moose tracks. The portion was generous for a small, and the ice cream was delicious. Inside is everything you would order from Monroe Dairy online, which means there are lots of local products like RI-made honey, Nettie's Kettle Corn, Narragansett Creamery cheeses, and more. When I was there, someone was making a batch of Sacred Cow granola and it smelled like cinnamon. There are big glass walls so you can see what they are doing in the kitchen. If I lived closer, I'd be here regularly. I can't wait to bring my daughter here. She will love it! read more

Really good ice cream and generous portions! The bottom of my cone was properly filled up, too. Parking and service are good. The only thing that could be improved is the number/variety of hard flavors. I'd especially love to see chocolate based flavors with inclusions... or coffee, peanut butter, etc. There is a small number to choose from and we particularly love the unusual ones. But, we were pleasantly surprised with how creamy, rich, and full of inclusions our ice cream was, and how huge one scoop is. Maple creemie is not something you see around here too often, either.
