I've only had one thing at Li'l Woody's, twice and I was very drunk when I had them, but they were awesome. The Capital Hill Fried Chicken Sandwich is truly a thing of beauty - a thick-crusted, buttermilk marinated chicken breast deep-fried to crispy perfection and you really should opt for the bacon and the cheese! I will definitely go back for a burger to see how they stack up and I will try very hard to be sober. But my initial impressions, as alcohol-infused as they were are very good! PS. I don't see the allure of this place other than they stay open until 3am. They pump out the burgers like a machine. The service is borderline rude and the burgers are just meh. I learned about Lil' Woody's because I deliver for Postmates and I've been sent here to get food for people a lot. On one visit, I decided to order myself a Lil' Woody because they looked and smelled pretty good. What I got for my money and they aren't cheap was a super greasy slab of tough ground beef between two soggy buns with chopped onions and lettuce. a slice of Tillamook cheddar and some ketchup and mayo. The tough fibrous tissue in the meat made the burger hard to eat. I'm not used to gristle in my burgers at all. The whole thing just kinda fell flat. They cook their burgers over a flame on a grill to start with and then transfer them onto a flat top grill to steam them while the cheese melts. I don't think they season the meat before it's cooked and I haven't seen them season the meat while it's cooking. I could be wrong but I don't think they season it. I didn't personally drink a shake but I've ordered them for my customers and for the money, it's totally not worth it. They have one size and it's not big at all and when they have handed me the shakes, they feel nearly melted as soon as they are prepared. I felt like I was delivering a cup of milk to my customer instead of a milkshake. On top of all of this, if you visit Lil' Woody's late at night, they block off nearly the entire restaurant with tables and chairs. They leave a very small space for a ton of people to stand in line and try to order and pick up their food. They have a security guard there too to stare you down the entire time that you are there and waiting. I don't have a photo but picture walking in the door and straight ahead of you is the counters. To your left along the walls are some soda coolers and the seating area takes up the entire right side of the building. The counter is about 12 feet in from the front door but the space between the soda coolers and the tables that they put in your way is only about 5 feet. If they would just line the tables and chairs up in a line from the counter to the right instead of straight to the front door, they would have a lot more space for customers to wait and it wouldn't cause too much extra cleaning at closing time which is why they block you off to begin with. This place get crazy busy with the bar crowd between 2 and 3am and I've been in line with literally 15 other people all crammed into a space that's about 5 by 12 feet. Everyone is in your way and if you want a soda from the cooler, the whole room has to shift. I don't know if it's that people are drunk and just don't care or if people really like the burgers for what they are. All I know is that I didn't like the burgers and I can't stand the crap you have to go through to get one and then there's the borderline rude service. No thanks it's not worth it to me. If you're in Capital Hill looking for a burger, I can recommend some places that I feel are much better. If it's late night, you might be stuck going to Lil' Woody's or you might go someplace else like Lost Lake or Glos or Beth's. Good burger joint for Capital Hill, but is overpriced with what you get if we didn't come here for the free burgers on Memorial Day. I didn't like the concept of building your own burger and paying an extra dollar for each of the extras on top if you wanted anything above just a plain burger. It seems such a rip off considering how much each of the items actually cost if you bought them at a grocery store instead. I did like that the burgers tasted better than any of the chain burger restaurants with a great grill flavor, but the fries were overcooked and tasted a little burnt. The Molly Moon Salted Caramel milkshake was terrific and had a great consistency with the overall thickness of the drink. I wasn't a fan of the decor as it was mostly just a whole in the wall location with the small size of the place and with the constant stream of people coming and going the place wasn't kept very clean. The interior could definitely use a remodeling and replace the seats. read more

I don't see why people love this place. Maybe the location appeals to those afflicted with the late night drunk munchies. Beats me. If you're going to add another burger place to this planet, you gotta offer something new - and pouring milkshake into a cup and calling it "crack sauce" does not count. Or, if innovation isn't your thing, at least show us some quality - or even quantity! Any of those would do. But instead, I got a skimpy, flavorless burger for $8. Not impressed. Simply put, I would go to Dick's up the street before eating here again. If nothing else, at least I'd get my money's worth. After a long day of exploring and the drive back from Mt. Rainier, my pregnant belly was screaming for some real food! And a burger was exactly what I wanted!! I'd heard great things about this place and it seemed perfect for occasion because I just needed a quick bite and was the only person in our party eating. I ordered at the counter and requested it to-go. Not too long after, the burger was in my hand! I chose the burger with pickled figs, bacon and Gorgonzola with a lettuce wrap. Boy did this thing taste like heaven! Ravenous pregnant lady getting the crazy burger she needs!! The thin patty was perfect considering the overflowing toppings and filled me up without making me feel sick. The pickled figs had a great balance of sweet and sour and bacon is always awesome. It was May 3rd, 2014 and myself, along with some cohorts just wrapped up vocal practice at Rock Box and decided to re-great the chords with some late night hamburgeusas, guays. Long story short, my friends were in line, I told them what i wanted and as i made my way to the restroom, i was stopped by the cook (tall, lanky caucasian dude with facial hair and greasy locks). He told me that the wash room was for paying customers only. I mentioned that i just placed an order. He said he needed to see me in line and pay for the food. At this point i'm thinking, "I must be really drunk or this is a dream, breh." (Disclaimer: It's not like i strolled in there belligerently or acting boisterous; i carry myself like the respectful, cordial and civil being that i am. I just wanted some 'Lil Woody." It was my first/only experience and unfortunately, utterly left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended but them fries, saltier than Lebron at the finals this year). Now, reading the reviews, this seems to be an isolated case. And that's what perturbs me. El senor chef must have thought i was cute. Cac gettin' jelly. What ruffles my ridges (and i'm a man of principle who is also in the customer service industry) was that he decided to call me out during a busy, post-club-hour rush... he looked like the owner to moi as I highly doubt any employee would have the cajones or authority to speak/act so graciously patronizing to customers (and plus, he was ordering people around/kept thumping his chest while flipping burgers, so the assumption seems fair). I've been coming to Lil Woody's ever since they opened and I REALLY want to like them but it's always hit or miss for me. The one thing that is always constant, however, are the salted caramel milkshakes which are just so delicious (I swear I'm tearing up as I write this because they are that good!). Over the years, the service and the quality of the food have gone downhill. From the past 5 times I've visited Lil Woody's, I've gotten cold fries twice and sass from the person taking my order all 5 times. I love that they love Sol and Macklemore but shouldn't they be showing love to their loyal customers too? I guess they do that with their free burger days but the lines are cuhrazy long. They have Siracha which is awesome because every restaurant should have Siracha. They also have awesome weekly specials that leave me salivating at the keyboard for I can only enjoy them from their Facebook posts. I get that this place is a burger joint but wouldn't it be nice to eat on a clean table top? Every time I go, every open table is so dirty. During spring break when I was visiting home, my brother and I drove out to Lil Woody's about 15 minutes prior to closing and the girl at the register refused to sell us food. We then kindly asked, "could we just have a shake? My sister hasn't been home in a year and that's all she talks about" and the girl still said no and then escorted out and closed the door...so we went to Dick's which was way cheaper but come on! I've been eating here since you guys first opened. But if you've never been here before, make sure you give them a chance. I think the management should consider changing the name of this place to "Big Woody's" - because that's exactly what I got in my pants after sinking my teeth into their illustrious buttermilk fried chicken breast sandwich. Holy foodgasm, batman. Food: Li'l Woody's is an independent burger joint that offers 6 signature burgers (1/3 pound), as well as a fried chicken sandwich, veggie burger, hand cut Washington potato fries, onion rings, and Molly Moons ice cream malts and milkshakes. You can also make your own burger, but I wouldn't recommend messing around with your own creation - these people know what the hell they're doing. All burgers and sandwiches are priced a la carte, so sides need to be ordered separately. During my visit, I opted for the fried chicken sandwich with added bacon and a side of fries. Both the sandwich and fries were sizably portioned and perfectly fried - my only regret was that I left without ordering a milkshake. Service: Pleasant and efficient. All orders are placed at the front counter and your number is called out once it's ready for pick-up. The time between order placement and food arrival was less than 10 minutes. Patrons are responsible for clearing and disposing of their own plates and trash. Atmosphere: Rustic hip. The ground level of the restaurant contains the kitchen area and a handful of high top tables - there's also a separate loft like dining area on the upper level. Patrons wishing to dine upstairs should note that it is located directly above the kitchen, and thus, hotter than satan's lair. There is an industrial fun, but we only lasted a few minutes before deciding to retreat to the ground level. Cost: The prices are high by casual burger joint standards, but it's important to take into consideration the venue location and quality of the product - if you're happily accustomed to national burger chains, then you might as well just save yourself the heartache and go there in the first place. I am confused by the hype and offended by paying almost $50 for a couple of burgers, fries and a shake. I wanted to love it, I was craving a burger and fries, not really a fan of shoe string fries unless they are piping hot, and these were cold when I opened the bag. The burger was meh, but the $6 milkshake was good. Honestly, 2.5 stars, but that isn't an option. Yo, this place was great! I was staying in a hotel down the street, was walking towards Cap Hill and realized my tummy was doing a little rumbling. Saw this place and a pizza place next door. This place was jumping, the pizza place looked cool but empty like a funeral home. Burger me please. They had curly fries that day on special. Sweet. With burger and fries it was less than $8! Coming from San Francisco that is the most absurd thing I have ever seen. It is at least $14 for that much food where I live. The burger was well-seasoned and fire-grilled. This feels a little weird to say, but the bread reminded me of a gourmet version of McDonald's bread. Yes, McDonald's is terrible for me so I rarely eat it, but I can't deny that crap is delicious. Well, this is like a combination of an upscale McDonald's and my Uncle grilling in the backyard pouring beer onto the meat because it "adds flavor". I'd heard about how awesome this place was from a few different people, all claiming it was better than Zippy's, which I considered to be Seattle's best burger. So today I set out with a couple friends to grab a burger at lunch, and I gotta say, this place is pretty legit. The menu and ordering is pretty straightforward and they have some interesting choices that take you off the beaten path of most burger joints. I ordered "The Pendleton" which is a 1/3 pound burger with sharp cheddar, an onion ring, and BBQ sauce. I was hoping it would come with a trendy wool shirt, but sadly it did not. :( Like most boutique burger shops these days the burgers don't come with fries (boo!) so I grabbed a side of fries and the ever-so-refreshing bottle of Mexican Coke. The first thing you'll notice about the burger is the bun. This isn't some Franz bakery, or backyard-BBQ hamburger bun, this thing is a legit piece of crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside mastery. Everything else inside just works. The symbiosis between meat, cheese, and sauce was pure art. My only complaint is that the onion ring didn't play a very prominent role. It was sort of an afterthought. The fries were very good, and much like the bun on the burger, these were not your conventional foodservice-grade fries. They actually reminded my a lot of the Dicks drive-in fries. Yes, they're greasy, but FFS you're eating at a burger joint, don't get all health nut now. Greasy, salty, long and string-cut. Definitely a solid choice. While the quality is top-notch my only grouse, and it's a small one, is the price. $8 for a 1/3lb burger will definitely be a big turn-off for a lot of people, regardless of the overall quality. I'd say Li'l Woody's is actually a 3.5, but I'll bump it to 4 stars. The burger itself was really good. Not greasy like some other hamburger joints. But the queso fries. The queso wasn't as hot-temperature & spiciness wise. And the fries were a bit on the saltier side. But onto the burger, it was really good. I got the Li'l Woody burger. I think it's charbroiled, so it tastes a lot better. I prefer charbroiled vs flat grill. It gives that hint of smokiness flavor. It's open late. I actually would prefer the food here versus going to a fast food joint or Dick's. Now I have a new burger spot to go to late at night in Capitol Hill!! read more

Somewhere between mediocre and disappointing. I ordered a make-your-own with cheddar, bacon, and caramelized onions. The caramelized onions were amazing, but still not as good as Lunchbox's brown sugar onions or Tavern Law's red wine onions. The bun was pretty good. The bacon was merely average (and this is after accounting for the fact that it's bacon). The cheese might as well not have been there. The meat, however, was the low point of the burger. A good burger should be dripping with grease and meat juice. I should be having trouble keeping my hands clean while I'm eating the burger. In that regard, Lil Woody's burger was very, very dry. And the meat was also definitely on the bland side. The meat is what makes the burger. If they can't get the meat right, it's not a good burger. Now maybe I got a bad patty. My cohort's burger was pink on the inside. Mine was definitely cooked brown. But inconsistent cooking isn't really a plus for a burger joint. Overall? Good enough if I'm in Cap Hill, want a quick burger. Nowhere near my list of best burgers in the city. The fries were decent. Fresh out of the fryer, moist, and well seasoned. read more

My first time at Li'l Woody's was exactly what I expected - small place, greasy burgers, no nonsense. Since I'm seeing it in some of the other reviews - whether or not they were nice doesn't really matter to me (as a note though: they were). There's just so little interaction with the employees here that the MOST important thing is the food. And that burger was EXACTLY what I needed. I got the breakfast burger - eggs, bacon, cheese, sauce. Bun lighted toasted in butter. I want another one just thinking about it. They also let you customize your own burger however you like. Everything is priced really well ($4 for my burger), and they have a couple of beers on tap. I'd definitely go back here for great hangover food. read more

Thick, tasty burgers with high-quality, tasty toppings, and you can't beat the Fig & Pig! Li'l Woody's is close-ish to downtown, a short uphill walk but absolutely worth the trek if you like burgers. The menu is fairly small, although you can create your own custom burger with their mix 'n' match toppings. I WANT to try other things, but I can't quit the Fig & Pig (pickled figs, Hills Bacon, mayo and crumbled gorgonzola cheese), so I just get that every time. The hand-cut fries are good, on the thin/crispy side, and a large basket is plenty to share for two or three people. I'm apparently one of the few people who don't like dipping fries into milkshakes, so I can't comment on the "crack" style fries with a cup of milkshake for dipping, but the onion rings are also impressively large, crispy, and delicious. The line can back up out the door quickly, and although there is seating upstairs and downstairs, it can get stiflingly hot inside in the warmer months. But hey, suck it up and go grab a burger anyway. You won't be sorry! read more

My first experience here was yesterday, when they were giving out free Li'l Woody's burger (cheese and any other extra toppings you want for a $1 or $0.50, depending on the topping) between 2-4pm in celebration of their second anniversary. First of all, how COOL is it that there's an establishment willing to give out free burgers, with no conditions, just to celebrate their anniversary with the rest of the community? Kudos for that move. I've been meaning for several months to try this spot. Several friends have told me how solid it is, but I'm either pulled in to the allure of Baguette Box, which is a known quantity for me, or it's just not a burger day (I don't have a lot of burger days). But, I could not resist free burgers on this occassion, and thought it the perfect opportunity to give Li'l Woody's a try. EXCELLENT BURGERS, FOLKS! Excellent. My beau chose pineapples and sauteed mushrooms for his, the sweetness of the pineapple really accentuating the flavor of the burger. Mine had cheese and an onion ring. They were very generous with the cheese, but I was disappointed that the onion ring didn't add the crunchy texture I had hoped it would. We also picked the Queso and Fries as a side order. OMG, the queso is amazing, so amazing in fact, that I took the leftovers home and am looking forward to using it as dip for nachos or something. After getting through about half of it, the combined salt from the fries and queso were starting to feel a bit overwhelming, but nothing that a few gulps of water didn't take care of. I'll be back. The first time I visit here I note the worn wood, mismatched tables and sticky counter tops, but am in awe of being able to order a beer along with my burger. Clearly, I have been raised on McDonalds and experienced very little in life. Our group of eight plus people wait for a longer table while sitting awkwardly facing the wall at dirty tables with soda cans and old newspapers with nudie photos. Hip burger joint on Pine in Cap Hill, sweet location for a super-casual space nestled amongst popular trending hot spots and nightlife. First time here as recommended by friends; so I got the burger named after the place and a side of fries. Fries were thin cut and a bit soft from all the oil but the flavor of the grilled burger and bun hit the spot. Next time I'll graduate to the Big Woody because adding the BLT would be such adventures. PSA: leave your little kids at home or in the car, and don't turn this place into McDonalds. I am very happy that other people found this place to be Heaven, but not for me. Really hoped for more and every bite I took into my burger disappointed me more. Going in, the place seem really great. Smaller but unique variety of soft drinks to the left, huge menu of new burgers to indulge to the right. Service was nice and friendly. Which is a great thing. Atmosphere is great for hanging out with your friends and having a place to talk and not be bothered. They did put in work to make the place look cabin like with Wooden glazed table with little red plastic chairs that brings back memories of grade school. Anyways, the food: that's what you're hear for right. For $8, I expected something more once again. My burger was overcooked and was not warm. The buns were nothing special, too spongy and very thick. Onion rings were too oily and French fries were still very soft even after ordering them to be extra crispy. I did take a bite out of my neighbor's burger, the New Mexican and that was better. Maybe it was the one I ordered, just bad luck, or maybe neither. Not that the food at Li'l Woody's isn't good - it's good and tasty, just not that good... The plastic cup with the milkshake in it was terrible design - they need to use a different cup. It was leaking out the sides, the sides of the cup were sticky, ... not a very good experience. The music was very annoying and hokey - kinda drove me insane. Came here for the first time recently because we were in DT Seattle and it was over 30mins wait at every restaurant! We searched on Yelp to see what was in the vicinity and had great reviews. Got the Lil' Woody and added an egg (best. combo. everrrrr). Crack w/the mint shake (it really is like crack). My boyfriend got the Big Woody & his sister got a Lil' Woody w/onion rings w/ranch (the onion rings were addicting). Came here for lunch with colleagues on Friday afternoon. The burgers tastes okay but nothing over the top. The choices are very limited and I felt the place is little expensive for a just burgers. I ordered veggie veggie burger which was good but $7 for just one small burger I felt little expensive. More over if you need cheese it will cost you a dollar extra. Best Burgers in Seattle hands down. been coming here for years. Can't go wrong with any burger seeing how they all are very flavor-able. The best burger in the world is "The Fig & the Pig". Burger topped with pickled fig & blue cheese with bacon. Nothing better then a salty sweet. The only con is a $6 Shake. the shake is great but it comes in one size, and for $6 i would like to have a little bit more. read more

Came here hoping to exclaim "What is this magic?!" But left with "Where was the magic?" .....Sigh. :P This place is over-hyped. The burgers are mediocre. In fact, I only ate 1/3 of my burger - which rarely happens. The patties were so thin and dry. Brown all throughout. No pink anywhere. *Thumbs down*...Definitely overcooked. Napkin test? Failed. Only used napkins because of yucky grease not because of juice/flavors. The fries were dead. Limp and lacked any sort of flavor or seasoning. Same issue with the onion rings. It was bland. Nada. Nothing. The reason this place is 3 stars is because, well, it's a great location and it's really cheap. Like fast food restaurant prices. Which is pretty impressive in Capitol Hill.
