We were really wanting to love this. We've heard great things and have wanted to try it for quite a while. The service was quick and friendly, but the food was disappointng. I had "mom's favorite scramble" and it was OK, but the home fries (mine) were not even browned and almost uncooked. My husband's were better. My toast was cold, barely toasted and no butter. I am full and happy right now. this little gem has awesome food and friendly service. hidden at the end of a small, worn strip mall lil bits has two patio tables outside and about 6 tables inside plus counter seating. its clean and has character- which helps you overlook the lack if air conditioning. portions are not only very generous, but they truly are delicious. My husband had the corned beef hash- truly homemade. no canned corned beef. it was perfectly crisped without being greasy. the over easy eggs were also buttery browned at the edges over- easy. about $12 and worth it. my husband said they were the best he ever had. I had jesses omelette- huge and fluffy of three eggs, cheeses, onions, bell peppers, sausage . the hone fries were a work of beauty- thin sliced red potatoes, mixed with onions and bells and again crispy and crusty without being oily. about $12 or 13 and worth it toast was good too and hone made jam delicious. meals of other diners looked fabulous too. read more

Skip breakfast in Pismo Beach and come down the road apiece to this unassuming little breakfast joint; I guarantee it's worth the trip. The biscuits and gravy are incredibly rich, buttery and meaty. The toast with homemade strawberry jam is some of the best you'll ever taste; the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. The homemade salsa goes perfectly with their light, fluffy scrambled eggs. It's the small touches that go a long way, and this dive serves them out in spades. We visit the Pismo/Grover Beach area often, and like to experience the vast variety of restaurants in the area. But when it came to breakfast, we were die hard Lil' Bits loyal. Always great service, very friendly staff, fair portions at a fair price. But something has changed. It took appox. 40 minutes of waiting outside for our party of 6 to get a table. When asking about the status of a table, the question was met with a hint of attitude. The question may have been asked with a bit of attitude as well. Don't know...I received the info second hand. I understand that the staff has little control over when a party leaves, and their seating is very limited. So, the wait wasn't too much of a problem. Their food is usually worth it. So, we get our drinks and place our orders. The level of service we've become accustomed to here makes it difficult to carry on a conversation without being interrupted with offers to refill our drinks. Not this day. We finished our drinks, conversations, and began reading the trivia cards found in the condiment trays. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. We asked another (veteran) waitress for refills, and received them promptly. When our waitress found out, she admitted to only having only 2 days experience. This would explain why it took between 45 minutes and an hour to get our meals. We were wondering what was going on when we see people that were seated after us, getting their food before us. Come to find out there was some sort of snafu when she gave our order to the cook. Our order didn't have any deviations from the menu, so the snafu was inexplicable. With all that said, we can extend grace to a third day waitress. We've all been there. So here is the inexcusable part that motivates our decision to not return, and warn others about. When we received the bill, it was $100! Two of our plates were from the senior menu. The rest of the orders didn't exceed $10. . Talk about sticker shock!! We found out that Lil' Bits now includes a 20% "gratuity" on the bill. We weren't warned about this. This shouldn't be called a gratuity, but a service fee. And, restaurants should make customers aware of their policy BEFORE seating. Many places have implemented this practice, and I vehemently avoid them. I feel it's the equivalent of the cashier reaching into your wallet and just grabbing whatever they want. The government does this enough without restaurants getting in line with their hands out as well. A Tip/Gratuity, is VOLUNTARY, not obligatory! I have always been a generous tipper. I'll frequently leave between 20 and 30 percent, depending on the quality of service. But NEVER less than 10. I understand that not all patrons feel tipping is important, if for no other reason, to be a decent human being. So restaurants feel the need to tack on miscellaneous fees. HEY RESTAURANT OWNERS...This is the unfortunate nature of the service industry, some people are going to be rude with their behavior and with their money. But obligatory fees will compel otherwise favorable patrons to cook at home. If better tips are expected, management needs to train their staff to step up their hospitality. They should also realize that there are permanently disgruntled patrons that aren't going to be happy no matter what. But in the wisdom of Taylor Swift...just gotta shake it off. read more

My family has a vacation home in Grover so we don't go all the time but when we go this is a favorite spot. The homemade salsa is so delicious! I've eaten dog, cat, rat, cockroach, camel penis, bee larva, scorpions, spiders, night hawk, and pre-born duck embryo without feeling ill. Can't say the same for Taco Bell or McDonald's. When I need fast food, I go to the places that represent the "Diner" aspect of the food scene. Many of these places are so good it likes walking into grandma's kitchen. My favorite new spot is Lil Bits Café in Grover Beach. Open for breakfast and lunch, they do down home cooking with bigger portion of better food. My first trip was with my grandson, whose parents were refusing to let him eat pancakes, because they felt they were just cakes for breakfast. Being a proper grandma, I am imbibing him all the boycotted food. Ice Cream, chocolate, smoothies and pancakes are what he dines on with me in charge of meals. He loved the little silver dollar palm size cakes and I grubbed on a spectacular (and huge) veggie omelet stuffed with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes and topped with a tangy cheddar cheese. He nibbled on my omelet too, but the pancakes were a hit. We sat in the back room so not to bother the other patrons with our rousing singing and slight throwing of food (he is only 16 months and food flung is still fun). I took the Dude (what the grandson calls my husband instead of Grandpa) back for the weekend specials. And we tried all three; it was enough food to feed an army. Perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict, with a delicious hollandaise sauce was our first try. Then we moved to the boneless Pork Chops with scrambled eggs. These were exceptionally good for the diner styling and I would suggest them for all the big meat-eaters for breakfast. Gary's favorite was the Über sweet Stuffed French Toast. This American classic is stuffed with fresh strawberries and cream cheese, dusted with powered sugar and were so sweet it made my teeth hurt. Gary was in heaven. Owners Jason and Jenna Goetz have done a fantastic job of riving this café (it was Shirley's Dinner). They all celebrate the specials by wearing a distinct dress code; they wear Hawaiian shirts for the stuffed French bread, camo for Memorial Day, and fancy hats for boneless pork chops. Their daughter, Kira makes homemade cup cakes to sell on the weekend, which prompted Gary to announce we were coming back for lunch on Sunday. This time we tried the chili, which I must say was one of the best I have tried. Big chunks of sirloin beef, chorizo and a perfect blending of chilies and spices make this southwestern delight stand out. Gary did the Blue Burger with fried onion straws and blue crumbles enhancing the impeccable meat and bun. The French fries are big and seasoned with precision. We are fans, as is the grand baby, who now yells "Bits" as we drive by. read more

Food smelled good but we had no choice but to leave. 25 min wait means 10-15 mins at every other restaraunt in the universe except this place. Met one of my brother-in-laws for brekkies at L'il Bits early this morning. The place was new to him, despite having lived here in this area nearly all of his 67 years. Yes, I agree, this place IS the "Champion of Breakfast"!!! The food and service were outstanding, and the place is cozy. Initially, it seems very small, but there is actually a larger dining area in back. As always, one standard that I always like to try whenever eating at an independent breakfast place, is the chicken fried steak. This dish is kind of a reference point for me, because if their CFS sucks, chances are so does everything else. The CFS was excellent! I'm not a gravy man, so I passed the gravy along to my BIL for his biscuit, which appeared to be home-made and awesome. The eggs were done perfectly and the home fries were definitely something to write home (or Yelp) about! The prices are higher than some chain places, but well worth it, especially since most of the breakfasts boast "all you can eat" home fries. There was no need for extra home fires this morning, as the breakfasts were quite substantial. If you're looking for a good, hearty breakfast, Lil'Bits is the place. I came here with a group before we went ATV'ing in Pismo and it was definitely the right place to grab meals that would fuel us. I had a special (check the board!) - stuffed french toast with strawberries and cream cheese that came with a side of hash browns, two eggs, bacon or sausage and toast. The french toast wasn't really stuffed but more so two slices of french toast slathered with cream cheese and then smushed together, topped with fresh strawberries. But indeed, it was good french toast. Make sure you try the homemade salsa and strawberry jelly, which has a very striking color. Service here was super friendly and our waitress was the best! Cute old diner off Grand Avenue on 7th street with a warm atmosphere and very friendly staff. Be hungry when you come because the portions are HUGE!. They make almost everything fresh including their huge biscuits. I haven't tried lunch but my omelet, home fries and biscuits and gravy were wonderful. The service here is awesome! I'm always quick to notice if people are greeted right away when they come in and if the waiting staff pays close attention to refilling coffee and water. The staff did an awesome job of that! I got the chicken fried steak which I highly recommend. It's the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. The Coats got a veggie omelette and it was "simply orgasmic" (her words not mine). No but really it was awesome. We had the best biscuits and gravy here today. The serving sizes were beyond generous and the prices were reasonable. The waitress was very friendly, and we enjoyed playing with the trivia cards that they supply. The kicker though was that the waitress kept suggesting alternatives- "you can have home fries OR hashbrowns with that" (when the menu only listed home fries), and "if you can't decide between bacon and sausage, we will just do a half order of each!"
