I was excited to finally try this place out. I did enjoy it overall. I do love Peruvian food. I definitely felt welcomed soon as we walked in, we were greeted swiftly with smiles. For drinks I tried 2 of their margaritas, the classic and the cucumber! The cucumber was so good, the other was basic, I've had better. I definitely recommend the cucumber one! As for food, I tried the empanada platter, it comes with 4 different ones. Chicken, beef, cheese, and a veggie one (with mushrooms and cheese) I loved the veggie one best, then the cheese, the beef one (respectfully) it tasted like something from Taco Bell, and the chicken one I did not enjoy not one bit. The yellow sauce it served with was tasty. From what I've heard I expected it to taste better. Also I tried the mixto classico ceviche with taro chips. It was really delicious! I highly recommend. As for the service, the female server was not as attentive as I would have liked, from filling our water to checking in, and giving us the check. I had to kindly ask another server for it. It was a Saturday night and it was busy, however it was just too long in my opinion.Yet she was nice and I loved her recommendations. The vibes were really good too! The place is really loud, and the people you're sitting right next too, you may or may not be able to hear them if you are there alone... I do recommend this place. I'll probably be back in the future. 3 stars for speed of service. read more

My very first Peruvian food experience was a delight! My friend and I started with lychee sours. The drink was foamy and topped with lychee, a sweet plus! We ordered the arroz con pollo and polli-papas. I personally thought the arroz con pollo was okay; the chicken was juicy, but overall, I didn't notice anything that made it particularly special. I wanted to order the seafood one, but they make their seafood dishes with red snapper, which I am unfortunately allergic to. The polli-papas, however, were delicious! The fried chicken was covered in a light, fried batter, but still remainder juicy! It was the perfect balance between juicy and crunchy. The fries were delicious in the sauce, and I overall loved this dish! I look forward to trying other dishes at Limon, and hopefully I can try some of their seafood next time! read more

Overall Fav: MUSHROOM EMPANADA dipped in the Aji Amarillo sauce! Soooo flavorful and delicious. There was truffle and cheese...whew! I would go back there just for it. Ceviche was yummy, tangy and sour with tender fish. Jalea was crispy and well-seasoned. Chicken was okay, somewhat dry but nothing the Aji Amarillo sauce couldn't fix. Our server was very nice, but ordering was a little difficult as it was very loud and a little cramped. Overall, it was a fun time with good food! read more

I've always believed that the best experiences especially at restaurants are about more than just food. They're about connection. And that's exactly what you'll find at Limon in Walnut Creek. We recently had the pleasure of dining there again, and while the food was, as always, phenomenal (more on that mac & cheese in a moment), what truly stood out was the human element, especially in the form of our waiter, Roberto. Roberto isn't just a great server, he's what I'd call a connector. He has that rare ability to make you feel seen and valued from the moment you sit down. He remembers you, your preferences, and most importantly, how to make you feel welcome. He brings warmth, attention, and authenticity to every interaction, and that's something you can't train, it's who he is. So if you're looking for more than just a meal, if you're looking for an experience that nourishes both your appetite and your spirit, Limon is it. I'd give Limón 5 stars if their service was a little more consistent. Sometimes, they're on top of refilling water and sometimes, I've sat through my entire meal with zero refills/checkins. The tables are incredibly small and it would be a lot better had there been a little more space-- as the table gets filled very easily. This could make eating uncomfortable as there's a lot of clutter. The chicken is always cooked to perfection, never overcooked and always super soft. I normally order it with jasmine rice and sweet potato fries. Ceviche Mixto -- 5/5!!!! Soooooo good but can be a little salty sometimes. Order it with taro chips. I do wish though that the pieces were a tad bit smaller. Pulpo -- 4.5/5. Portion of the pulpo is decent, flavor is great. I tried a lychee cocktail and it was.. not great at all. It tasted very soapy. These dishes are my go to every time I visit and I'd definitely like to try different the next time I visit. However, it's very hard to pass on these dishes and a girl can only eat so much lol. read more

I've been wanting to try out this place and everything turned out pretty delicious! For starters, I ordered the Pica Rico ceviche, the presentation was really nice and the seafood was fresh. I really enjoyed the leche de tigre and ended up drinking it all, haha. My boyfriend and I shared the whole chicken. It comes with an aji amarillo sauce and your choice of two sides. We ended up getting the Chifa vegetables and yuca fries, which unfortunately were both an extra upcharge. I wasn't too impressed with the Chifa veggies. It was stir fried zucchini with some ginger and some sort of soy based sauce. I know it's Chinese/Peruvian fusion but it reminded me too much of the stir fried veggies I ate growing up and didn't think it was worth the upcharge especially with the amount you get. It was also super oily. The yuca fries we got were pretty decent and I liked them. The whole chicken was tasty and had crispy skin. The meat was tender and the flavors of the aji amarillo sauce complemented it well. The whole chicken is cut in 8 pieces, so it was pretty easy for my boyfriend and I to share. We ordered and shared a tres leches cake, and finished it pretty quickly because it was really yummy, haha! Service was great and friendly, and you can have the option to pay via card or Apple Pay. I'd like to come back again to try out the other dishes! read more

Probably the best Peruvian ceviche (micro amarillo) in the US - everything was great, the empanadas, the Yuka fries and had the seafood paella and the pana cotta. The ambiance was nice, the drinks were all made with fresh fruit juices - I had the cucumber margarita and it was so refreshing, not overly sweet. Stumbled about this place after a day of shopping around. Despite it being a busy weekend evening, we were able to get seated right away in their outdoor seating. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. Just writing this review and looking at the food pics is making me hungry. We were served quickly and really enjoyed everything we good! Lots of flavors and very satisfying. Especially the dessert! The tres leches cake hit the spot. If you like what you see on their menu, i don't think it can disappoint. Third time at this location, hoping for a better experience--but unfortunately, not much has changed. Service was still slow; we waited quite a while for a waiter to come to our table and eventually had to go inside to ask for someone to take our order, despite the restaurant not being that busy. Food was a mix. The ceviches were decent, and the Saltado Mar y Tierra and chicha were the highlights. But the jalea was just as disappointing as before--looked sad, tasted the same. Limón as a chain is solid, but the Oakland and Burlingame locations are much better when it comes to service and consistency. Really hoping this location improves! read more

I am a regular Limon patron, but this was my first time at the Walnut Creek restaurant. It's a two story restaurant which I haven't seen before compared to other Limon restaurants. The food as usual was on point. EVERYTHING that we ordered was delicious.... from the drinks, to the appetizers and main entrees. Some of our favorites include the Lychee Melon drink, vegetarian empanadas (we ordered 4 rounds!), plantains, and the lomo saltado. We ordered so much more than what I'm listing, but those were my favorites. The wait staff was friendly, accomodating, and super festive! Loved her holiday earrings! Great looking restaurant, fabulous food, good music, nice looking bar, and great wait staff. A must try for date night, girls night out, or special occasion! read more

Limón is located in downtown Walnut Creek with all other amazing restaurants in the area. We had a reservation on Friday night and even though we were not being seated right away, it's about 10 mins wait. The restaurant is very busy and packed with people so make sure you make your reservation. Food was delicious. We ordered appetizer, rice, chicken and beef dishes to share with 4 of us and the portion was a good size and we finished all the food with a full stomach. We could not stop ourselves before the food was so good. We ordered the special sangria and it was very refreshing. Pineapple with white wine. You can't go wrong with that. It was very crowded in the restaurant so it was loud. Not good for having conversation as we have to talk very loud. Our server is very attentive and friendly. Service was good. What a wonderful restaurant! We dined here with friends and family, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. Dim light ambiance, very renovated and modern. The food was incredibly flavorful, and the servers went above and beyond to accommodate us, they even entertained us with conversation. We came as a larger party of 12 with a reservation, they seated us quickly in the upstairs area. The restaurant is pretty tight and crowded, and it was very loud, i had to scream to the person next to me for them to hear me. The food was good, lomo saltado was flavorful, empanadas were delicious, and the best thing was the Lycheemelon cocktail. The cocktail was not super sweet and had a nice kick to it, backed with lychee and watermelon, it also looked aesthetically pleasing! This spot has become a must visit for reliably good food with good vibes. The staff is always friendly too. You can never go wrong with the LOMO SALTADO or the POLLO A LA BRASA. Their sauces are super yummy too! It's all delicious and the portions are very generous (great for sharing). I love taking friends here since the atmosphere is fun and great for any size groups. The food and service was amazing! The whole staff had an amazing vibe and we were served by Miguel. We came for the happy hour and has the red sangria, sour pisco, scallops, and truffle mac and cheese. All tasted amazing especially the mac and cheese was just the right amount of truffle! We have eaten at Limón in Walnut Creek several times. Every time the food and service have been great. Yesterday our server was Wilfredo and he was very friendly and helpful in deciding what to try. You really can't go wrong with any of the waitstaff. The only downside to Limón is the noise level. It's loud inside; I recommend eating outside if the weather is acceptable. (There are overhead heaters but they're pretty far above you.) Overall, highly recommended. read more

Really disappointed with our visit here with a family of six. The ambiance was nice, but service was very slow -- we didn't receive our waters for at least 20 minutes after being seated. The food overall was just OK, but I'm giving one star because of how a serious issue was handled. One of the Lomo Saltado dishes was sent back twice -- first because it was cold, and the second time because the steak was raw. The manager did come over, which I initially appreciated, but instead of removing the dish from the bill, he asked if we wanted something else (or a dessert) -- by that point, everyone else had already finished eating and we were not interested in a free dessert. Given the high prices, being charged for a dish that could have caused food poisoning was extremely disappointing and not an acceptable response. read more

Specialties

Family Owned Peruvian Restaurant Executive chef, Martín Castillo, and his brothers, Antonio and Eduardo, grew up around a busy kitchen. Their mother, Luz, was well known in her neighborhood for her delicious cooking: her son's friends would always ask her to make their families a dish on special occasions. By the 1990's the Castillo brothers had left Perú and found themselves in the U.S. They continued their ritual of cooking home-style Peruvian dishes out of their apartment for family, friends and, soon enough, friends of friends. It was then that they knew there was something worth sharing. By 2002, the Castillo's first restaurant, "Limón" opened its doors on 17th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco. The goal was simple: introduce the dynamic flavors of Peruvian cuisine to the renowned San Francisco food scene, in which it was seemingly missing. With word of mouth the restaurant quickly gained recognition from top restaurant critics and national publications. Most important to the Castillo brothers was to create an atmosphere reminiscent of life in Perú: a place where locals could gather over shared plates and celebrate life's occasions with memorable food & drink. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.

AND, as a surprise, they offered an off-menu dessert: Carajillo Bread Pudding (a rich spiked bread pudding with notes of coffee and Licor 43 topped with vanilla ice cream). Brussels sprouts: It's not the best we've had but I would still order it again, if nothing more than to get those insane bacon chunks that came with the vegetables. I had the spicy maracuya and hubby had the Irish goodbye as drinks. Both wonderfully done, but I especially liked the Irish goodbye which was their take on a manhattan - instead of bourbon they used whiskey, and threw in some green chartreuse along with the vermouth. We had barely sat down and had not even had a chance to look at the menu when an employee approached us and told me that "the law" required my service dog to stay on the floor underneath the table. I explained that he is a very small service dog trained to respond to symptoms related to my disability and needs to remain close to me. He was on my lap, not on the restaurant's furniture or table. Instead of listening to my explanation, another employee came over with her phone already in hand to show us what she believed the law said. Both employees stood at our table repeatedly arguing with us about where my service dog was legally required to be. One employee even brought up having a quadriplegic family member with a service dog as justification for why she knew the rules. Every disability and service animal is different, and I found that comparison unnecessary and dismissive of what I was explaining about my own needs. The entire interaction made me feel singled out and embarrassed in front of other customers. Eventually, because the situation had become so uncomfortable, we had a family member take my service dog to our car and stay with him just to end the confrontation. That meant I was separated from the service animal specifically trained to assist me. Even after we agreed to remove him, the employees continued lecturing us. Afterward, we reviewed the U.S. Department of Justice's ADA guidance ourselves. The guidance states that generally a service dog must stay on the floor or the person may carry the dog, and it even provides an example involving a small service dog that needs to remain close to its handler to perform its disability-related work. I was never asking for my dog to sit on restaurant furniture or be placed on the table. What bothered me most was not simply being approached about a service animal, it was how the entire situation was handled. I should not have been made to feel like I had to publicly defend my disability-related need for my service dog just to sit down and have dinner. I hope management takes this experience seriously, reviews its service-animal policy, and provides employees with appropriate ADA training. Customers with disabilities and their service animals deserve to be treated respectfully and discreetly.
