Everything my wife and I had here was amazing, as was the service. We had the ceviche mixto as an appetizer, I ordered the saltado de pollo, my wife ordered the tallarines verdes con asado, we drank hot tea and chicha morada, and finished with alfajores. Everything that we ate was delicious and the tallarines verdes con asado was my wife's favorite dish she's ever had in a restaurant. Our server gave us great recommendations and was very knowledgeable and the manager came and introduced himself and was very suave. This place is very well run and we will definitely be back. Used to be very good. Not sure what has changed but the service was slow, the portions were small, and the food was less than average. I had the aji de gallina which is my favorite Peruvian dish. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. For Peruvian in DFW, my vote is for Teneo or Inca's. read more

We are a group of students learning to speak Spanish and who enjoy learning and experiencing the Hispanic cultures. We found "Lima Taverna" to be a restaurant that provided us with that experience. The food was great, the manager and server was not only very friendly, but also very informative about the Peruvian cuisine giving us the feeling that we were in Perú. This restaurant is a "go back again" for sure. It is great for large gathering as well as just fewer people. We had lunch and we are going back on a Saturday night to enjoy the music. Good typical peruvian food!. Being a native peruvian and a little of a cook I consider myself quite picky whenever going out for dinner and especially if this entails peruvian cuisine. I have previously heard good comments about this place and wanted to honestly give it a try. The locations seems a little remote to be honest (in front of an abandoned mall/shopping center). The place was nicely decorated and appeared to have a warming touch to it. We were greeted and served warmly. For appetizer we shared a leche de tigre (which is the extra sour ceviche juice with bites of fish marinated, peruvian corn and some onions... very refreshing especially for summer time with a cold ice beer!). I chose the lomo saltado which was indeed top sirloin well marinated and smoked, maybe lacked a little extra strength with a kick of aji amarillo. My wife got the tallarines verdes con asado (eye of round) which was cooked to perfection, extremely tender and tasty. Finally my friend ordered the carapulcra (dry potato stew with pork chop) which was tasty and well executed. For dessert the creme brulee made with lucuma was a pleasant surprise and the chicha morada to drink was certainly home made although lacked a little extra strength. Definitively would recommend. This is currently the best peruvian restaurant in DFW and I hope they continue to improve in both flavor and service for all our pleasure! read more

I'll just start with the fact that we are used to Peruvian food in NYC where we have the best food from around the world. Given that standard, we still expected this place to be better since it has 4 1/2 stars on Yelp. My standard Peruvian dish is jalea and my boyfriend's is lomo saltado. The lomo did not come with rice which it normally does and the meat was mediocre. My jalea was not too bad except it was missing the mix of onions, corn and lime that it usually comes with. It had the onions but none of the other mix. They also gave me tartar sauce instead of the normal green sauce I'm accustomed to. I'm surprised they gave me tartar sauce like I was at Long John Silver's or something. I asked for the sauce and the waiter was super nice about giving it to me. I was very disappointed in the food. Not to mention it's a long drive and we nearly missed the restaurant because it's hidden in the back of a shopping center. The drinks and service were great, we have no complaints about either at all. The food did take a long time but there were a lot of parties going on so we expected that. The pisco was yummy!! Nonetheless, we came for the food and were disappointed. We will not be going back and hope to find a good Peruvian spot in Dallas comparable to NYC. read more

The food here is amazing! Best empanadas I have ever had. The Leche de Tigre with the lime juice and peppers was very fresh and nothing was overpowering. I have been to Lima Taverna a few times and the food has always been amazing! My husband is Peruvian and he says this is the most authentic place in the dfw area. Lima is the gourmet capital of Latin America, and Lima Taverna is like eating in Lima. The food was outstanding and the presentation was beautiful just like I found in Lima, Peru. Horrible service. Absolutely the worst service I've had at any establishment ever. I'm not sure this is even a restaurant. More like a novelty for the owner to invite friends maybe. Remarkable such a place can stay in business. If you are considering giving Lima Taverna a chance, you have been forewarned, good luck. There were only two tables seated at the restaurant when I dined there. Still had the worst service ever. Took forever to be seated, food took forever, the server brought me the wrong entree, she had to put in the entree I actually ordered, and then tried to charge me for the entree I did not order and sent back (I did not even touch it). Then she argues with me about what I ordered. It was simple, she was paying attention to my girlfriend and stopped paying attention when I ordered so she brought both of us the same entree. I had to argue with her for 15 minutes about why I wasn't paying for her mistake and then had to say I would call my bank and dispute the transaction in order to have the item removed from the bill. Appalling experience. You will see many others have had similar experiences to me, long wait, not being greeted, food taking forever, but hopefully no one else had to argue about why they were charged for a mistake made by the server. read more

During a family road trip to Texas and New Mexico, my family and I were looking for some comfort food. Having grown up eating Peruvian food, I knew what to expect from the menu at Lima Taverna. The decor was cozy and earth toned. The menu boasted classic dishes from my childhood. The problem was choosing what to eat! Luckily between my entire family, we were able to choose a little bit of everything from pork, chicken, beef, fish and seafood. The restaurant is spacious yet intimate for dining. Totally able to talk comfortably during dinner without hearing conversations from other diners nor being drowned out by the background music (classics from my childhood!). Very friendly service by the owners and staff-attentive and pleasant! The food began to arrive and was delighted by how visually appealing and mouthwatering the dishes were. The taste of the dishes were as expected-flavorful and not overly salted or seasoned. Portions were adequate as we could not finish everything but still managed a few bites of the dessert, alfajores (a sweet and crumbly cookie-perfect sized to satisfy a sweet tooth). Some favorites were the chicharon (fried pork belly), lomo saltado (beef stir fry with french fries), tacu tacu (mashed beans and rice), papa a la huancaina (boiled potatoes with mild creamy cheese sauce) and ceviche (fresh fish with a citrusy bite). Another must try is the chicha morada-sweet and refreshing purple corn drink that is an absolute delight on a hot day! Overall, a great experience for everyone to enjoy while in Plano/Dallas area. First of all forget Lima, Peru or anything else to do with 'ethnic food'; this place is truly amazing because all of the food is made in house and with love (sorry for being corny, but it has that extra care and attention to detail!). I had the chicken appetizer that was deliciously marinated with subtle notes of tropical flavorings. For the main course I had the salmon and it was incredible, sitting in a stew of squid and shrimp. A pleasant surprise was the Peruvian style alfajores. It's subtly different from the Argentine type and in my opinion a whole lot better! I had pisco brandy and an aperitif with pisco in it as well, smooth and silky. Peruvian food is my favorite! I had it in several countries around the world, including Perú. I have been to Gaston Acuario's restaurants in Lima and Bogotá. I grew up eating Peruvian food. Enough said. I know about good Peruvian food and Lima Taverna completely met my expectations. Not a fancy place but good AUTHENTIC Peruvian cuisine. Ceviche was right on the spot and they made me Chupe de Camarones (a Peruvian staple) and it reminded me of the best Peruvian restaurant in Caracas, Venezuela (El Tizón) but also the Chupe from La Rosa Náutica another staple restaurant in Larcomar, Lima... So I honestly recommend this place. I will be going quite often. Plus Eliseo the owner is such a good guy trying to get his business growing in a whole new city for him. For those accustomed to ceviche the Mexican way, Peruvian ceviche is different. No tomatoes on this one. Perfect dish for those doing Paleo diet. read more

Don't let the location next to the dying Collin Creek Mall (may it rest in peace) fool you. I've been to Lima Taverna twice and cannot recommend it enough. I will continue to return until I can try everything on the menu. I've never had Peruvian food before, but am having such fun exploring it. The menu is quite varied and the staff is happy to discuss the food items and make recommendations. The owner is very friendly and is invested in having satisfied customers. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. Ask about the traditional Peruvian cocktail, and do consider trying some of Lima Taverna's appetizers with your meal - they are different than any appetizers I've had before, and quite delicious. My favorites so far are the EMPANADA, the CAUSA LIMEÑA, and the very tart and excellent LECHE DE TIGRE. Also hunt down the review in the Dallas Observer. I followed their menu advice the first time I went and that's what brought me back for more. Excellent cuisine is worth the $$ level price. Come hungry, but be sure and eat slowly so you can savor the unique flavors of these exquisite dishes. read more
