Italian with a strong Southern influence. I came here with a group of friends and the general consensus is that we overpaid for southern cuisine that tried to pass off as Italian. There is a plus though - the service is friendly! We were quite impressed by the ambiance when we walked in. There is a grand wooden bar area and booths with dark leather seats. They have private seating areas for if you have 12 or more people. We started with some complimentary focaccia that you can dip with olive oil. Those were tasty although I was sad to see we only got one plate of olive oil with pepper/salt when we had 8 people at the table. The food was the disappointment. The pine nut salad was coated with heavy oil and really should have had a balsamic vinaigrette on it as described in the menu. We thought this was the side salad to the entree however when the bill came it was $9 and definitely not worth the cost. The chicken Marsala which was $24 tasted like fried chicken with gravy on it instead of Marsala sauce. The fettuccine was extremely bland and the texture was bad. My friend who ordered the fettuccine alfredo said hers was tolerable only after continuous applying salt. The margherita pizza was reasonably priced at $12 and was alright, nothing to write home about. The only things I've enjoyed tonight was the limoncello drink ($12) - very appropriate that the restaurant is named this. If you do want to venture to Limoncello, order this drink and you won't be disappointed. For dessert, the tiramisu was pretty good. The $10 was much loftier than I expected for a tiramisu square though. The Limoncello alone would have scored them a 4-5 stars for me but the pricy and non-authentic Italian cuisine was quite disappointing for our whole group. read more

The food was edible - unfortunately that's really the only positive thing that I can say about our lunch experience. We got to the restaurant for an early lunch and we were some of the only people there. Despite that, it took an hour to get our pizza. We did start with Cesar salad which tasted very bland, almost like it was made from one of the salad kits at the grocery store. Nothing special. We were also asked if we wanted anchovies on the Cesar, and we responded yes. There definitely weren't any anchovies. The pear pizza had very little flavor and felt more like a flatbread than a pizza. There are so many great places to eat in Greenville, so we will not be back. read more

Delicious! My first trip here. It was a lovely day so we got to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the weather as well as our meal. Our food from the presentation to the seasoning was perfect. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful in deciding on what to select. Both myself and my friend were completely satisfied with our meals. Went to dinner before a show at the Peace Center. The place was loud inside on a Tuesday night. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, but it took a little bit of time for me to warm up. Ordered an extra dry martini and received one with vermouth. Sent that back to receive another martini the color of yellow with olive brine in it. Took that back to the bartender myself to ensure there wasn't any miscommunication about what I wanted and received a ton of attitude. When my new martini was placed next to the briney one, he just gave me the evil eye. Oh well. Enjoyed the antipasto board with its 3 pieces of salami, prosciutto and sopressatta. The dmall Burrata Salad and the entree Power Recover Salad were very good. The pizza was too doughey /cheesy for me (you wouldn't find anything like this in Italy). The Zucchini Fries with Panko Crumbs were burnt, and the Chicken Involtini was overdone and dry. Restaurant Concept is nice but the food is just okay. read more

I enjoyed my first visit to Limoncello. Compared to other Italian restaurants in the city it has a -- very classic, high end ambience (and price). I ordered Bruschetta as an appetizer and its flavor was fresh and light. The tomatoes were finely chopped and bread nicely toasted. There could've been a tad more balsamic vinaigrette drizzle but overall it was your standard bruschetta. My main dish was the Penne Arrabiatta with extra sauce. This dish contained marinara seasoned with red pepper flakes and spicy Italian sausage. Spicy, spicy! I enjoyed the texture of the sauce but the red pepper flakes were a bit overpowering. The sausage was also not as discreetly incorporated into the dish. They were tasty but the shape was unexpected and clashed with the dish. Finally, I ordered a tiramisu to-go. It was very appeasing to the eye and I could def taste the coffee. I wasn't wowed but neither was I disappointed. My 4-star rating is in comparison to other Italian restaurants. I've had some pretty bland and bad takes on Italian dishes. Overall, I was pleased with my dinner. But this is definitely a place you visit on a special occasion because it is on the expensive side. read more

We sat at the bar where there WA only one other couple. The barmaid ignored us for over 10 minutes while she chatted with 2 idle waitresses.

We were visiting in town and needed a nice place to have dinner. We had seen Limoncello driving by and decided to stop for dinner. They looked busy, so we dropped one member of our family off to obtain a table for us. By the time we parked the car across the street in the parking garage, she had a table for us. It was a little.chilly outside, so the waitress had promised us a heater to be set up by our table. It took some time for them to set up the heater, and at first it didn't work, but one of the guys finally got it started for us, and it kept us warm through the rest of dinner and dessert. For drinks, we started off with the Caramel Apple Spiced Sangria and a Black Pearl Old Fashioned. The sangrias were the perfect drinks for the start of fall, with the right amount of spice and apple. The old fashioned was good, but the sangrias won out over it. We ordered the eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, and shrimp capellini. Everything came out fresh and delicious, and the meals were consumed quickly. The shrimp were plump, the tomatoes were fresh, plenty of seasoning, and the only complaint was that there should've been salads and bread in addition to our meals. I did order a house salad, with balsamic vinaigrette, pickled onions, multicolored tomatoes, and spring mix, but that was extra in addition to my meal. We ordered gelato for dessert, and we were warned on the mango flavor to not order it, since it tastes like house cleaner. We instead chose the apple cinnamon and vanilla chocolate chip flavors. They came out in large portions for us, which was enough for all three of us. However, we did notice that instead of being creamy, it was icy. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere wonderful. We ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese & Fettuccine Alfredo (with chicken) on Sunday 10/23/22 for our Anniversary dinner. Food was cold, rubbery and seemed like it was left under a hot lamp for 20+ min, sadly it was not edible and we sent it back. I am never one to complain but we went here for our first anniversary two years ago with a different chef (and maybe other management/owners). We came all the way from Virginia! I had higher standards for this place from our previous experience but sadly they stomped that expectation into the ground. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our first experience at Limoncello. First - there apparently had been some issues with the restaurant's first reservation system, but management has sorted this out by switching to OpenTable. Quick, easy, and painless. I won't lie... we probably would've eaten at Limoncello tonight anyway because it was our chosen destination, but on days that we can't make up our minds about where to go, the use of OpenTable is often a deciding factor for us. I was interested to see much of the decor that made the old Playwright restaurant really stand out in this location (dark wood, large bar, etc) remains, but with lots of sprucing up to bring a lighter and brighter feel. Momentos and recipes from the owner's family tree offer a reminder that they're taking this fresh, family Italian concept seriously. We arrived intending to order from their restaurant week menu. My wife had the willpower to stick with the plan - but I jumped ship pretty quickly after hearing about the dinner special that our server knowledgeably and confidently described. Between the two of us, we tried the Bruschetta and Chopped Salad as appetizers; a Polenta and Shrimp with Pancetta, and a Beef and Italian Sausage Four Cheese Lasagna as entrees; and Tiramisu and Affogato (house-made gelato with a side of hot espresso to pour over) for dessert. Generous portions, and delicious all around. A good selection of wine by the glass or by the bottle are available, as are some creative cocktails that we'll explore next time. Our server tells us that the lasagna will soon move from being a special to finding a permanent place on the menu... and for good reason! Be sure to save room for dessert. It's likely that you'll be leaning towards either the tiramisu or the limoncello ricotta almond cake (it IS the namesake, after all) but don't jump past the gelato without giving it fair consideration. The house-made vanilla gelato that laid the foundation for my Affogato dessert was fantastic. On my next visit, I'd like to say I'll explore some of their other gelato flavors... but who am I kidding? We all know I'll be scarfing down the Affogato again, with no regrets whatsoever. Service was consistent and thorough. Our server was attentive and knew what she was talking about; she was willing to offer suggestions and boxed up our leftovers for us (for me, that's one of those often-overlooked details that is a mark of good service). All in all, a good first impression and definitely added to my list of date night options. read more

We enjoyed more than we anticipated. Maybe we prejudged based on what was there before. Surely, being owned by Larkin's this venture would be better? It was for us. We failed to make a reservation but were lucky enough to snag one of three high tops in the bar area. Our server, Rex, had the best personality and was very efficient. I ordered the Venetian Spritz cocktail and enjoyed the first couple of sips, but it became quite bitter after that. The calamari appetizer is delicious! Served with the tentacles and sliced banana peppers, we really enjoyed this dish. The tomato and burrata salad is served warm and was very good, but could have used some arugula and maybe a piece of bread. The Italian sandwich my hub ordered was the highlight, and probably the freshest, tastiest sandwich we've had in a while. The pasta salad was also very good and a huge serving. Prices are average to above average. Overall, it was a nice evening. I do recommend a reservation to ensure a table. The outdoor area is very nice and we'd love to dine out there next time. For me, Italian restaurants usually have a more intimate feel that often involves soft lights to give it a different feel from other types of restaurants. The food, while good, doesn't really do anything to stand out from the pack. Arrived in picturesque Greenville about 8pm after a 9 hr drive. We decided on Limoncello after hearing about it and reading reviews. We had the salmon with capers, shrimp Prosecco, and the bolognese. The salmon was cooked perfect, the shrimp was good but the bolognese was room temperature. The server asked if we wanted Parmesan on our dishes and we said yes, only to be handed a shaker (think pizza restaurant). At that price point we were expecting fresh parm. The service was okay. My first visit here with my wife and daughter, who had dined here previously this past summer and raved about it. Our experience last week was also worthy of rave reviews: very uncrowded for a weekday lunch, comfortable seating and surroundings. Steven waited on us with some help from the manager in accommodating my wife's dietary limitations. She had the Salmon Piccata with gluten free pasta; salmon cooked perfectly and lemon caper sauce delicious. Our daughter loved her Perfect Pear pizza with pears, carmelized onions, arugula, mozzarella, garlic oil, prosciutto, and balsamic. There was no shrimp on the lunch menu, but Steven gladly offered the dinner menu as an option, from which I ordered the Shrimp Prosecco cappelini, which was one of the best pasta dishes I have had in a long, long while. We split a fall greens salad with gorgonzola, dried cranberries, and pine nuts and a bottle of Nero d'Avola. Finished our exceptional lunch with espressos and cappucino. Once again, traveling from work so I walked to a place near my hotel. I typically don't go to places with less than a 4 rating and tonight I remember why. I wanted Italian and this place was close with a great outdoor seating option. The atmosphere would get a 5 star for sure. Service was good. Food was terrible. I ordered a Margarita pizza. How can you actually mess that up? It's sauce, tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Well they figured out a way. There was hardly any sauce, not a single slice of tomato, so much raw flour on the bottom of the crust and next to no mozzarella. It was like eating a tasteless cracker. But having traveled all day I ate enough to not be starving. Manager made the mistake of coming by and asking how it was and of course I told him. He offered something else (to which I said no, I'd eaten enough to kill the hunger) and then asked if I wanted dessert. Ummm, no of course not. Never once did he offer to take the $14 pizza off my bill. It would get a one star if not for the beautiful outdoor seating. read more

My husband and I dined here for our 17th wedding anniversary. We sat outside and ordered some drinks, bread, and calamari. All were really great. The bread was warm/freshly baked and had a great flavor. The calamari is probably in the top 5 of all calamari we've ever eaten. This is something that is easy to overcook, but they cooked it perfectly - no rubbery calamari. The pepperocini and sauce paired with it complemented it perfectly. I would recommend better dipping cups for the sauce though. The tiny square one didn't make it easy to get the sauce out. My husband ordered the Chicken Involtini and I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and both were enjoyable. The Chicken Parm tasted a little dried out like it might have been under the warmer a little too long, but I'm not too hard to please and still enjoyed it. The atmosphere outside the restaurant was lovely. The string lights and tables out around the fountain created an ambiance perfect for chatting, drinking, and eating. As it cooled down outside, the staff did a nice job of placing outdoor heaters for those that requested it. The service is the reason I took off a star. While our server was very nice, she was clearly overworked. We didn't penalize her tip or anything for the slower service because it wasn't her fault, but I think the restaurant was understaffed. I know that it might be difficult to find ideal staffing but at the higher price point for this restaurant, I expect better. I think there was a staffing issue in the kitchen also because it took much longer than expected for our food to come out. All in all, we would go back to this restaurant for all the reasons described above and we hope that the staffing issues are taken care of. read more

I took my parents to Limoncello for their 32nd wedding anniversary when they visited Greenville and we all LOVED it. It was a nicer restaurant and the food was amazing. We split the artichoke fries which were lightly fried artichokes with an aioli. After ordering our meals they brought fresh focaccia bread with an olive oil, balsamic, and cracked pepper dip. The bread had a nice herb flavor to it. I ended up ordering the salmon piccata and subbed vegetables for the pasta. The flavor was absolutely incredible. It was a nice butter with a hint of lemon. The vegetables had tomato, mushroom, broccolini, zucchini, cappers, and red onion. I was pleasantly surprised by the vegetable medley. I would definitely go back to get this meal again. read more

Arrived for our reservation early and was sat. Was really looking forward to a great Italian meal. Waitress took our order and it started off great with two appetizers for our family of 4. Then it went downhill. Sat there for 20 minutes and ran out of water and had to flag our waitress down for bread because my kids were starving. Sat for another 15 minutes and then the waitress comes by the table and tells my wife the kitchen has no lettuce to make her salad. Really? 35 minutes after taking our order, and that's when they realize they can't make a salad? The waitress says the other three entrees will be out soon, but they can make something for my wife other than salad. My wife is on a diet and salad is the only thing she can eat so we tell the waitress we'll find something else but bring out the rest of the dinners. As we are searching yelp to see what's nearby to order my wife a salad, another waitress comes by 10 minutes later and reports they have gone to the store and got lettuce. So now my wife's dinner can be completed. Great bring out the dinners! 15 minutes later a young short haired gal brings out my wife's salad. We are perplexed as we assumed the other three meals which 25 minutes ago were ready to come out would beat the wayward salad. So we asked what happened to the other three meals? This young lady with the foulest attitude and B-face says, "Um they're coming out after this!" That's it, my patience just ran out and I tell this young lady I don't appreciate the attitude, face, nor snappy response and demand a to see a manager. She storms off. Needless to say, we now seem to be purposely avoided by our waitress yet I see her attend to other tables. Also I see tables sat after us are getting their dinners while my wife has her salad and an hour after taking our order, three of us still have no dinner. Finally when the manager shows up 10 minutes later, I am done and no amount of apologies are going to salvage this dining experience. We eventually get our other three meals with no salad dressing for my wife or no grated Parmesan cheese for my kid's pasta. My other kid says she's lost her appetite but I tell her let's just eat what we have so we can leave. Suddenly our MIA waitress reappears after the manager's visit and she refreshes our water and we get some cheese for my kid's pasta. I ask for the check, eat, pay, and leave. I placed a pick-up order, went to pick up and all I got was a receipt for my credit card, no itemized receipt. I asked for an itemized receipt. the girl was hesitant on it till some one told her to just give me the original one. Welp, I called my order in, they charge me 10.00 for an online order and a 2.00 tax tip. I left a tip, I feel that if you're going to charge something you shouldn't be sneaky about it. I ordered two salmon piccata's one chicken piccata and a creamy chicken pasta dish. All the piccata's were dry with no flavor. The salmon was good, but the chicken was absolutely horrible.
