my friends and I stopped by for sandwiches at limoncello after seeing all the rave about it online. there were so many options and we were also excited to see the deli was actually part of a larger italian grocery store and grabbed some italian sodas too! we were a bit disappointed by the sandwiches themselves- for $18, we felt that the proportions were a bit off. it still tasted great and ingredients were high quality, but there was a monstrous amount of meat and lettuce so it was hard to get any of the other flavors. the portions were huge though, which is a plus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]overall, the store was very cute, clean, and seemed like it stocked authentic italian ingredients.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] the service was pretty quick since we just ordered at the counter, and they are all very friendly.

The sandwich filling was tasty. Was a good blend of salty and spicy. I was given a choice and chose the Dutch bread but it was very stale. Other than that, it was a decent sandwich. The service was fast, considering there were about 6 people ahead of us. They had three people working efficiently.

My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!

3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.

Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.

I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.

Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space has small grocery section and a deli counter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.

Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.

There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the store is clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.

I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but Limoncello is more of a 3.5-star spot for me now. I used to love it, but lately it just hasn't been hitting the same. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or what, but it's no longer my go-to sandwich shop. I ordered my usual Cuban, and the balsamic vinegar and mustard were a bit overpowering. The portions are definitely generous (as they should be for a ~$20 sandwich), but it's disappointing that it doesn't come toasted.

Two thumbs! Companion has been wanting to take me out for a deli sandwich for quite some time. He has his list of spots in the city, Limoncello being one of them. We were able to finally go and I was quite content! What's fun about Limoncello is that it operates as an Italian market and a deli. The shop is on the corner and decently sized, with narrower walkways for the market and open space for the deli. Highly recommend perusing around the store since there's a lot of cool Italian goods! We came for the food and walked up the steps to the deli. You can see all of their meat displayed along with a menu on the wall boasting their sandwiches, salads, and other dishes. For those who get food, they have counter seating plus a few tables outdoors. Service by the staff was friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're also dog-friendly inside, and the pup had fun sniffing around![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I honestly don't eat deli meat often or crave an Italian sandwich, so this was a treat! I got the Siciliano Sandwich, Dutch Crunch, No Cheese and Pepperoncini. Companion had the Goodfella, Dutch Crunch, No Pepperoncini. They mixed up our sandwiches and didn't label them correctly so it took us a while to figure it out. Once we did we dug in and it was so good! The quality and freshness of the meat and veggies were superb! My companion commented that they loaded the greens up compared to other times he'd been there. The sandwiches themselves are massive and I only ate half of mine, so it's great to save for later! Limoncello has a few locations in the city, the Sutter Street one being their original. Highly recommend coming here to try their sandwiches or just walking around the shop. Parking around here is limited to street parking only.

Limoncello is my favorite neighborhood sandwich spot! The Speciale sandwich is my go-to. The sandwiches are all made with fresh ingredients. The shop also has cool imports from Italy like nocciola (real nutella). The owner Chris always has a smile on his face :) read more

Coming from a rich Italian family background, I can say with certainty that this place is doing it right. I got the Napolitano specialty sandwich and a cannoli. First, the sandwich is completely worth the price. They are HUGE and I could only eat half. And the flavor...oh God...I have no words. Second, the cannoli is just as I remember my grandmother making them. Third, the service was 5 stars alone. They made me feel at home immediately. If I lived here, I would become a regular very quickly. GO HERE GUYS. Best sandwich I've ever had and amazing humans who run it! Win - win!!! read more

Our deli sandwiches were wonderful! Huge too. Enough for 2 meals. Truly an authentic Italian deli and wine emporium, with everything from limoncello, Italian cookies and cakes, gelato, wide array of Italian wine and cold-cut sandwiches. We ate outside in the sun (COVID style) and enjoyed every bite. Highly recommended. read more

I'm so happy Limoncello opened in this spot. Now I can finally have my own fav small deli grocer! This is the place to go if you want to put together a wine and treats happy hour in a quickness. Sandwiches: I broke my "no sandwich" rule for Limoncello's Siciliano sandwich on a whim and it was super fresh, super delicious, with layers and layers of very thinly sliced Italian salami and hams, and upon request they made it spicy with some kind of magical spicy chili spread. It's spicy and yummy. Dry goods and grocery: Limoncello's cold case in the front of the shop has so many intriguing goodies: smoked duck breast. Mussels in olive oil. Truffle butter. Duck and pork rilette. The dry goods that caught my eyes: six different kinds of nougat with dried strawberries, dried pineapples and guava, cherries, pistachio. I'm really looking forward to having a party right out of that store. The owners seem really friendly and make you feel like a part of the neighborhood. I've only been here a handful of times and every time I'm glad it's here. read more

I've been coming here ever since it opened over the last year or so. Chris and his staff are always genuinely caring for all their customers and they truly appreciate your business. Everything there is top quality and very fresh. Although their sandwiches are incredible, my favorite take away items is the eggplant parmesan. Also, I live their variety of lasagna's and usually buy enough to freeze to have some when I am not in the mood for cooking. I highly recommend this place, as it always leaves me incredibly happy. read more

Just visiting and Yelp lead me to another delicious lunch. Had the Milanese sandwich on Dutch, spicy. Bread was super fresh, just the right amount of spice not to overwhelm the meat and roasted red peppers. Sunny day so I enjoyed it at the tables outside. Highly recommend. read more

Amazing first experience here. Was told so much about it from my work and was really craving a sandwich. So glad I came. I came during a slight rush with only one person making the sandwiches. Placed my order and decided to walk around the store. When I came back to the counter it seemed that the owner Chris came up to help out. He saw me standing there after a couple people placed their order and asked if I'd been helped. Which I replied yes. A few minutes after he came to check on me again and told me that my order was next. I had no problem with this and really was in no rush anyway. He then called me up and asked if I'd like a glass of wine. Obviously I said yeah. I mean I can't pass up free wine. I thanked him for the kind gesture since he really didn't have to do that. Then shortly after enjoying my sandwich we mined through the window and I said it was really good. He then called me in again to have another complimentary glass! Wild! When I came in we formally greeted one another and I told him that he definitely made my first impression of this place quite amazing. Even without the bonus wine, I would still give this place the rating I did. Amazing food and service read more

We went to this delightful shop yesterday! The staff was very attentive and helpful. We bought a delicious bottle of burgundy Pinot! If you are looking for quality food, a great wine selection, and fantastic service, you must go here! My husband and I agree these were the best sandwiches for our picnic on the beach! Nice place to grab a bottle of wine or some coffee. Had a Caesar Salad which was all very big lettuce and big chunks of parmesan cheese and that was it. I guess I was expecting more from the way the place looked which is very inviting. My husband had what they called a Cuban sandwich that was not at all a Cuban. They have bunches of deli meats for eating in or taking away. I don't know that I would eat there again, but to stop and have a coffee or a glass a wine it is a nice spot situated on the corner so one can watch the world go by. read more

Limoncello is my favorite neighborhood corner store. I'm SO HAPPY they opened here. My boyfriend and I come probably twice a month for sandwiches, which are great. We also like to come in and pick up random Italian centric goodies when we're cooking. It's like having a little piece of North Beach in our backyard. I've been in SF less than a week and I have already returned to this wonderful Italian store and deli twice. Jalal is friendly and helpful and able to prepare delicious sandwiches and salads. I watched as each of my selections was prepared and the freshest ingredients were used. The selection of wines and desserts is exceptional, and I fully anticipate becoming a regular customer here. Each patron is treated as an old friend and the service is exceptional. For minimal waiting,phone in your order and upon arrival be sure to let him know you've already placed your order. read more

The moral of this review is that you should always listen to your Mother. When my Mother told me about Limoncello, she said that it might be the most friendly shop she had been in. She wasn't kidding, Chris (the owner) recognized her and greeted her by name, then proceeded to make some recommendations based on our conversation. He has some pretty cool and hard to find Italian food items and his prices are fair. Shopping at Limoncello is like having an experienced friend guide you to the good stuff, with Chris being the friend. He also makes a great cappuccino, and that isn't all that easy to find. Then Limoncello got even better, because I asked about the Lasagna that I saw in the cold case, it looked (and was) housemade, and had the incredible burned corners that only really good lasagna has. He asked whether I liked spicy or not, then gave me the spicy lasagna. It might have been the best lasagna I have ever had. It was full of very flavorful meat, just right amount of amazing sauce, and enough cheese to hold it together. I am considering asking Chris to freeze and ship me his fabulous lasagna to my home in Kentucky! So in the end, my Mother was right and next time I visit SF, I will stop in and say hello to Chris, get a lasagna and cappuccino, and be a very happy guy. read more

Ordered a sandwich here after reading the 5* reviews on yelp. A cute corner place that is busy in the middle of the day. Overall a decent sandwich but its no where close to being a 5 star rating. Bread was dry and not something i would expect from a 5 star rated place. read more

Some of the best food in SF! All of the deli products are SO fresh and the cannolis are to die for. Not to mention how welcoming and kind the owner is, he will take care of you %100. Always a wonderful feeling to walk in and be greeted by someone who remembers you and receive high quality food, which can be hard to find these days. Visiting from Ohio and this sub place was just up the road from our hotel. Very authentic Italian sub joint. The food was great however I would've loved to have customized my sub a little. Nice little store area too and great selection of wine. Mafioso and Alpino were our sub choices. read more

One of my favorite local spots! Amazing sandwiches and a well stocked market with Italian and other European goods. The staff here are so friendly and always helpful. I'd skip on this because of the price and how difficult it was to eat--we only finished it because we paid so much for it. The strawberry cream cube was also different. It sort of reminded me of a croissant but had a different texture alongside a peppery aftertaste while being sweet pastry. While I liked the texture of it, I personally wasn't a fan of the sweet peppery flavor, but the others in my group liked it. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait in a decent sized line to order our food. Even though the line looked long, it does move pretty quickly. Service was average. The store itself was very aesthetic and had some limited indoor seating. Overall, I'd say I left feeling a bit underwhelmed and I don't think I'd personally come back.

When you enter Limoncello, you'll always be warmly greeted. This specialty Italian shop divvies up a broad selection of imported wine and packed food products. It's always a treat grabbing up a few items from here. They have huge Italian dry salamis hanging over the deli section as well as various cheeses to choose from when buying on its own or when creating custom sandwiches and salads. I was at Limoncello a few weeks ago with my brother, when we were on holiday in San Francisco. This place is amazing! The owner and his wife are the nicest, kindest people you can imagine. They are so friendly and warm-hearted! The owner made us beautiful and delicious sandwiches which made us feel like we were on holiday in Italy. The sandwiches were packed with a variety of high quality cold-cuts and vegetables, so yummy :-) there is also a big selection of excellent pastries and Italian biscuits. I recently walked into Limoncello, hoping to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and perhaps a bite to eat. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Despite there being both cooks and a server present, neither acknowledged me, let alone offered any assistance. I waited for some time, but their lack of attention left me feeling unwelcome. Frustrated, I decided to leave and walked down the road to Pacific Plaza Cafe, where I was greeted warmly and received excellent service. Last time I ordered, ETA was 30/40 min. Food arrived 90 min later. I live 6 minutes away.. I had food poisoning for 5/6 days after eating their sandwich. Tried the Petto di Pollo and the Sicilian sandwiches for lunch. I was very excited to try Limoncello's because I came by a few weeks ago (unfortunately, after I had eaten) and was intrigued by the menu. The sandwiches did not disappoint me. I liked the Petto di Pollo but would get it a little more spicy next time. I chose the regular because I was sharing. The Sicilian was a tasty sandwich with lots of Italian meat. This place is an incredible addition to the neighborhood! I live and work here and it has become a weekly indulgence. You are greeted like an old friend when you enter. It is great for vegetarians, the Roasted Vegetable sandwich is one of the best I've had - super fresh veggies and pesto! My boyfriend loves the Goodfella sandwich, and I've just been introduced to their Quinoa Salad - which is DELICIOUS and will be another go-to order for lunch. It has corn, onion tomato, goat cheese, chickpeas...Cannolis are also a super yummy treat. read more

One of the great sandwich shops in the city. Super fresh ingredients and a great selection, you'll be hard pressed to find a better place. I have friends who drive for miles to come to this place. If you're in the City, it's a must visit. If you check out there reviews, you'll see a lot of 5 star reviews, that should tell you something (some of the lower reviews? "no one greeted me." These people should not be on yelp) Only complaint is it is expensive but it's the City. Everything's expensive. Good food though. read more

Very friendly and have fresh good tasting sandwiches. They also serve wine, beer and other drinks. There's a market inside the place. it has limited to no indoor seating but has 6 outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Their Specielle Sandwich with prosciutto was good and sour dough tasted fresh. They have lots of wine and alcohol choices along with other items for a small market Street venue. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we saw lots of people coming in and out with orders. Delicious sandwiches, a great selection of cured meats, and enough sweet treats to make even the sweetest tooth need a break. A great spot to find a specialty ingredient for a home made Italian meal, or to pick up a warm, premade comfort meal after a long day. The owner is a really nice guy. We got three sandwiches from their deli and they all tasted great. Try them for sure! The store itself also have a great vibe to it :) We will be visiting again without a doubt. read more

I recently visited Limoncello, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish! I recently visited Limoncello in San Francisco and tried the Mafioso sandwich. The flavors were on point and I enjoyed every bite, although the bread was slightly chewy. However, what truly stood out was the owner's assistance and kindness. He was super sweet and made the visit even more enjoyable. Wow, only 9 reviews that show up in the Yelp search and 354 reviews that Yelp took down and marked as "not currently recommended". Yelp is not even displaying my Yelp reviews for this business and I used to be Yelp Elite. The sandwiches here are still good and I would definitely recommend....but it looks like they had a lot of fake reviewers with only 1 or 2 reviews. The business probably also decided to not pay the Yelp extortion fees. read more

Each dish we ordered--from starter to entree--was absolutely fantastic. Rustic Canyon showcases fresh, seasonal ingredients by marrying global flavors with adept execution. From a pozole with mussels to sunchokes with romesco, our palates were taken on an adventure to several continents right in my local neighborhood.
